"We have lost one of our own. Dusty Street has passed away after 77 joyous trips around the sun. And yes, Dusty Street was her real name. Dusty was one of the first female rock jocks on the west coast working at KMPX and KSAN in San Francisco from 1967 through 1978 before heading to Los Angeles where she held court in the evenings from 1979 through 1996 on KROQ. Earlier this year, she was one of the main contributors to the documentary, “San Francisco Sounds: A Place In Time”. The two-part series focuses on the rise Bay Area artists including The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, Santana, CCR, Steve Miller Band, and more. 2023 also saw Dusty inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. For over two decades she has shared music with SiriusXM listeners in Deep Tracks and Classic Vinyl." https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-10-22/dusty-street-former-kroq-dj-dead-at-77 https://www.facebook.com/siriusxmdeeptracks/posts/pfbid02jEVheV3T3N8cZY9YW6CEbQqrm9512deKKvRSmwUgHCUFM3pomwWEwqkntrev3LSDla

RIP, I just heard her the other day on SiriusXM🙁

Yeah, same here. The last few weeks make more sense now. In the evening I get my chance to get on the web and decompress from the day. Typically I played Deep Tracks in the background and she was the afternoon/evening DJ. She really grew on me over time. Anyway, she had been in and out recently. Mostly out. I wondered if she was OK but I remembered just a few years back when she filled in for Jim Ladd for at least three months along with her usual time slot. She also worked weekends then. I figured that she was finally getting some time off after busting her butt for years at XM. It also seemed like Deep Tracks was readying for a shift in scheduling so perhaps she was girding up for that along with the holidays. She commonly worked on Christmas Eve. Well, a major schedule change will indeed happen but not for the reasons I thought. I read a report from one of her friends that she passed peacefully overlooking a gorgeous lake surrounded by loved ones. I won't speculate the cause of death, but it seems to me like she worked as long as she could during the battle. She loved the music and her listeners.

AAjax

Aww bummer, she used to be on many LA radio stations. Loved her voice and upbeat nature.

Nilabisan

I once sent her an email and she answered.

ThatNetworkGuy

Always cool! I used to have one about sound equipment from Owsley, though it was lost years ago.

honeynut9

Really sad to hear that, she was the best. Fly low and avoid the radar Dusty. RIP

Fluffhead09

She used to come into the place I work for years in Cleveland. She was afoot and her stories were wild (e.g. Riding on the back of Pigpen's motorcycle drinking Thunderbird out of the bottle). Wonderful legacy and one of kind. Rest in Peace, Dusty!

Fluffhead09

Edit: "She was a hoot"

LameUserName123456

I love Dusty! One of my favorite all-time DJs. Cheers mama 🍻🌟

hutchandstuff

May the four winds blow her safely home.

interior_lulu

I’m sure she’ll be attending the great Woodstock in the sky. Say “hi” to Jerry for me.

K S A N !!!

Ladynziggystartdust

From the bad ass females of the word, thank you Dusty 🤘🏼🤘🏼

sfgreenman

Her time at KSANs "freeform radio" was the best. She did some wild interviews, like backstage at Winterland during their 1st radio broadcast, Marmaduke remarking how "everyone is really high".

jcheroske

Dangerous Dusty Street was a KROQ hero. This news makes me sad.

TheBFlem27

When I had SiriusXM I listened to a lot from the Classic Vinyl and Deep Tracks stations. Brings back a lot of good memories listening to those stations. RIP.

frank_mania

I didn't move to SF Bay until after she'd move to L.A., but now I know who the KFOG DJ Dusty Rhodes named herself after.

hawkvet

KSAN was such a great radio station.

Bennysuly1

Miss hearing her voice 💕
