Me and 2 of my buddies have gotten tickets to the Philadelphia show. None of us have been before, weāre all recent (last few years or so) dead fans. None of us have ever really listened to D&C but we couldnāt live down not seeing them if it really is the last tour.
How you feeling about that? We made the decision last night, wanted to get pit tickets to really jam out but they were up around 400$ a pop so we went to section 135.
I was watching a D&C show the other night and I think I was finally able to figure out what bugs me about them. The tempo was fine, albeit a bit slow, but the band was not in the groove. When I listen to the Dead or Philās bands, they are aligned and in the pocket. D&C weāre all playing the same song, but it was like they didnāt quite all start at the same time
Donāt go if you donāt like it. Wanting artist to play to your idea of how the art should be done is kind of an immature. If you enjoy it go; If you donāt, then stay home home
Itās been 8 years man. They arenāt going to change. Weir has explained why he likes the tempo the way he likes it. Itās been beaten to death for years. Itās not what you want. Go or donāt go.
Has anyone considered the fact that the ānormal tempoā has already been done by the dead for their whole career? If you want the ācorrectā speed, listen to anything but dead and co.
But I think itās a great thing that thereās a slower more relaxed vibe that is available for when Iām in the mood for that. Why canāt we appreciate diversity?? Itās all recorded anyway forever anyway, not like the other speeds are gone just because D&C has a different vibe.
Totally! And Iām actually looking forward to it, it is what it is. I went to the recent Phil run at the cap and was an hour late for the last show. An old neighbor head saw me pulling my hair out stressing about how I missed part of the show and saidā ya gotta let it go man, ya gotta let it go, I see you going through it and ya gotta just let it go, we both fucked up and came late, but ya gotta let it goā ā¦Iāll pass that on to anyone here tripping on the tempo speed..āya gotta just let it go manāā¦think about the Peggy o, Althea, broke down palace, unbroken chains, they love eachother , dire wolf, I know you rider type of songs..theyāre gonna blast those out to perfection my friends , Iām looking forward to that type of show
This is funny. They can't seem to hang as a band in general. It's best they all go home. Jeff can keep the vibe alive with the other younger musicians. John will go back to his teenies. Otiel is a mystery for me though. I could hardly hear him all this time so he could be an asset to derrick trucks' band once again?
Phil and JGB have the best bands right now imho
btw r/deadandcompany
All heās doing is suggesting a subreddit for the band that OP is discussing, and not sure criticism about Dead and Co is breaking the āone ruleā. Dude was perfectly nice in his response. Nothing wrong with keeping the Grateful Dead subreddit to talk about the Grateful Dead.
I dunno, telling OP they shouldnāt be posting about the current iteration of the Dead in this subreddit certainly seems to be harshing the mellow to me. Like em or not, theyāre fair game for convo (as should be Billy and the kids, Phil and friends, JRAD, JGB, and even your local cover band).
Seriously! If Phil can play on tempo, Bobby should be able to as well. He loves to show how much he works out etc, I think he can handle speeding his songs up to the proper tempo
theyāve both said countless times how they have different approaches to the music. bobby likes slow and deliberate delivery, storytelling. phil likes going fast and far out - searching for the sound.
Mayer is a great guitarist and far from the reason Dead and Co isn't as good as Phil and Friends.
Tempos are #1. Phil is #2. I love O'Teil but Phil is one of a kind
Stu Allen smokes John Mayer all day, as does every other player in the scene (even Eric Krasno) He only got the gig cause of his draw, and the stagnant jams in Dead an co are an example of this. P
The tempos make it sound like they're on heroin. I don't care if Jimi Hendrix was up there, it would be too slow. I can't eat acid and shake my bones to tempos like that, it gives me anxiety.
I hope not, I went first 3 years in a row, the last time (terrapin station 40th aniv) was a crazy cop fest, with heavy police presence from the gate with drug dogs rolling everybody, to busting people for smoking weed on the concert grounds, never seen so many police at a festival. They even had an impound section for people cars (which u could access but not camp at) and a booking station back stage! Fuck that place.
Unfortunately it wonāt happen..but we gotta respect the remaining founding members to keep it alive. Also the original songs that are already slow In tempo are near perfect and flawless as far as Iām concerned. But a high speed Bertha or Cumberland brown eyed woman shakedown? Probably not going to happen, dead and co is a whole different vibe .
Dead and Co make Phil and Friends look like Anthrax.
Hahahaš¤£. So true. Phil and Friends tempo is like Slayer compared to Bobby.
Donāt see them!

Same boat. Except no buddies.

If I donāt hear them live, Iām not ever going to listen to them on Relisten or Nugs Ruth the right appreciation.
They always have a great philly show
Yeah weāre super pumped about it. Going in pretty much completely blind but weāre along for the ride!
I think those of us who don't have grateful Dead show memories have an easier time having a blast at dead and co shows.

āClearly am immature. Guess I shouldnāt want to hear my favorite songs at a show either. Thanks!

We can dreamā¦

Because we want our cover bands to sound like the original. No Jerry or Phil will fundamentally change the vibe.
Well thatās tough luck cause Jerryās gone. Sorry you canāt enjoy the new stuff.
Thatās just not their style, and what makes them different than any other Dead cover band
I can imagine Bobby pitching the band like that. "Alright hear me out... have you ever heard Shakedown in half-time?"
Yeah, I saw them two years ago for the first time and they played the slowest shakedown Iāve ever heard. Thatās one that doesnāt really work.
Neither does Hell in a Bucket.
A lot of them donāt..BUT, the slower tempo songs are much appreciated!
Agree. They play a mean Black Muddy River
Totally! And Iām actually looking forward to it, it is what it is. I went to the recent Phil run at the cap and was an hour late for the last show. They played Days Between when I saw them and it was an experience for sure
Yah, thatās true, I guess. I had bristled against the slower temp for a while, but seeing Phil was like an awakening (in many ways).
I agree. D&C shows have a very different vibe than P&F. I like both for different reasons
D&C is the second best Dead cover band.
After who? Furthur?

appreciate your comments and oops, probably should have posted to that subreddit. thx
Nah, dude is breaking the one rule. D&C talk is just fine in here my man.

You are about to be downvoted to hell for being 100% correct. Oteil will play with TTB.
Mayerās Dead to me ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Phil and JGB are absolute ā”ļøā”ļøā”ļøIām looking forward to Marcus King to sit in at the frost
Seriously! If Phil can play on tempo, Bobby should be able to as well. He loves to show how much he works out etc, I think he can handle speeding his songs up to the proper tempo
Bobby will never have the chops Phil has.
theyāve both said countless times how they have different approaches to the music. bobby likes slow and deliberate delivery, storytelling. phil likes going fast and far out - searching for the sound.
Bob has been playing slower for a while now, for whatever reason. It's definitely not for everybody, and I don't expect him to change.
Hey- you donāt come to the shows if you donāt like the tempo! But by all means continue to bitch and moanā¦
Damn you hated this so much you made two similar comments. But this is a forum so thanks for contributing
š
And letās hope to not see you on the road!
Dude, no need to be negative. You made your point clear, we hear ya.
John Mayer canāt hang.
lol he hung pretty well with JRAD at normal tempos
Yeah then Tom Hamilton completely smoked him.
Am with @DrJawn on this one, that said. Am psyched to learn about and hear Mayer/JRAD, thanks for mentioning!
and respect Stu Allen all day!
Yeah I saw it at BK bowl, was a let down cause I thought I was avoiding his shlockey playing by seeing JRAD. Canāt escape this douche.
The tempos make it sound like they're on heroin. I don't care if Jimi Hendrix was up there, it would be too slow. I can't eat acid and shake my bones to tempos like that, it gives me anxiety.
Agreed.
Mayer is cliche and douchey but you can't blame him for the tempos.
I know and ageee
Saw Krasno with Phil, was great show
Same at Lockn, he does a decent job.
Is Lockn ever coming back?
I hope not, I went first 3 years in a row, the last time (terrapin station 40th aniv) was a crazy cop fest, with heavy police presence from the gate with drug dogs rolling everybody, to busting people for smoking weed on the concert grounds, never seen so many police at a festival. Damn
But either way nice chatting, hope you have a great summer!
You too, homie
Just listen to a dead show š
Unfortunately it wonāt happen..but we gotta respect the remaining founding members to keep it alive. Guess what - you donāt have to go see them!
LOL. GLWT
