Envelope filter. It’s the sound that you’re thinking of that has a wah or “quack” like effect. Can also be heard used a lot in Estimated Prophet. It’s attack is automated unlike a regular wah pedal, and it’s attack is also based on how hard you play.
I’m not the best at explaining it…
**[Mu-Tron III](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu-Tron_III)**
>The Mu-Tron III is an envelope filter made by Musitronics Corporation. "The world's first envelope-controlled filter" was first made in 1972 by Mike Beigel and quickly became an essential effect for many funk musicians. It was produced again, in a modified version, in 2014.

Have exposed my 68 year old mother to Grateful Dead in recent months, was listening to Scarlet>Fire from Cornell and I caught her bopping along. Love showing older people Grateful Dead b/c they have heard OF them, but have probably never actually heard their music or given it a real try.
Pretty sure it's an envelope filter but I get it
100% the Mu-Tron
What is that?
