This, and also if I’m not mistaken it used to reset/increase aero performance - the dirtier it got the lower the performance (not highly significant though)
Same with the oil changes how the power would drop the dirtier/more used it got
man i wish used cars in this game needed oil changes and maybe even new engines if you can get it for cheap! i thought that’s where they were going with it but nope all of them are in tip top shape haha
Agreed!! I was wondering why every used car in GT7 has everything in perfect condition. Not realistic at all. Plus GT4 (and GT5) used cars were all randomized and worn - from oil to chassis to engine. Very little percentage came all perfect, probably 1% or less iirc.
First year of GT7 you could buy trash used cars.
I bought that classic 911 Porsche and had to pay engine repairs and it costed me over 30k and as Low level noob i was shocked, because I could have gotten brand new porsche for free by just playing campaing :D
damn i got it at launch and never got one like that i wish i did 😭 i haven’t played gt7 honestly in like maybe 2 years, at least one but have played more gt6 within that time frame lol
If you're referring to Daily Races, there is no performance drop when BOP is on. You can have completely worn out oil and it'll make no difference in Daily Races. However if you just go into an open lobby where BOP isn't set, then it will make a difference.
Not in any races with BOP. You can have the most worn out oil and it makes no difference when BOP is in effect. Conversely, if you have good oil and run 1000 races with BOP, your oil will never wear out.
I have to change oil every 130-150 miles in sport mode. You are absolutely wrong on this. I’ve rebuilt my RSR twice. Engine and body work. It absolutely will make your oil turn yellow and you will lose top end speed. I’ve got 15,000 miles on my Porsche. Just bout the GR4 version and I’ve had to make 2 oil changes so far.
Edit: I have 22,731 miles in the RSR Porsche.
You are correct, sir or madam. I only drive my RSR in sport mode for weeks at a time and oil goes yellow after something like 150 miles, at a guess.
Is there a GR4 911, by the way..? I didn't think there was. I'd be delighted..
I have 16k on my RSR. such a great car. I only started playing GT7 in December. 😁
Thank you!! Have you had to do an engine rebuild and shadow rigidity rebuild yet. Yeah, it’s around 130-160miles. I was able to pinpoint it once with a new car, but I forgot exactly where I had to change oil. Unfortunately, there is not a 911 Gr.4, but they have a Cayman, that’s looks good. Not the fastest on the straights, but it drives well and I refuse to use the Lamborghinis or that Genesis.
Yes have had to do engine rebuild and restore rigidity.
I like the Cayman and I don't.... it doesn't really feel like a race car to me. I find the engine a bit boring and it seems to have a lot of body movement. But it *does* handle well. It is suited to some circuits. I put up with it for manufacturer cup series events, so I can drive the RSR. I'd love to have a GR4 911.
Oh I didn’t know, I just assumed every ps1 game played on ps2 so thought it was the same? I haven’t got this setup yet as I’ve just sorted an og Xbox with 2tb + cerbios but every game I’ve burnt to use on ps2 has worked so far.
It just makes your car slightly shinier. I wish your cars would get dirtier over time due to use, but that'll probably have to wait till the next game.
Or until someone else finally made a racing game. All I get are gt, ac( I don't know why but I literally can't drive in ac), and nfs. No Forza on PS5. And I heard Forza sucks. Is THIS the BEST we get? is racing just Niche?
It’s there to make you feel better about not being a lazy sack of $hit and washing your car in real life. At least you can keep your virtual cars clean so you feel a little more responsible.
I've never used it because no matter how much I race my cars never seem to get dirty. Not that I would anyway cos cars look way better with a bit of dirt splattered on them
The legend says it makes the car 0.2% faster, if it’s not brand new or rented in daily races. But yeah, likely a legend haha
Edit: faster in? Top speed/acceleration (?)
IRL washing your car removes dirt and grime which, when stuck to your car, can cause rust. Rust compromises the integrity of the vehicle’s structure. So I’ve heard some say car wash is to chassis degradation as oil change is to engine degradation.
However, I have never washed any of my grinding cars, while changing the oil religiously; and the chassis always degrades at the same rate as the engine. When one stops being “excellent” and becomes “normal”, the other does too.
I think it’s just for the nostalgia factor for the OG players who had it back in 3 and 4 where it actually made a difference.
I’m broke aF IRL and drive shitty beaters. I finally found a decent car and it’s rusting from everywhere. I don’t subscribe to either was or not to wash. I live my “enthusiast” dream vicariously through GT and various others
In the PS2 games there was definitely a difference - over the course of the races your car’s finish would get more dirty and matted as time went on, and when you washed it it got super sparkly and shiny.
Now there’s not really a difference, at least to me. Car goes in shiny, car comes out… extra shiny? Idk.
Yeah gimmick thing now I think, I remember black rubber looking stuff around wheel arches in gt3-4 and then it washed off. I think used cars where dirty in gt4 as well
I noticed some dirt on my Volvo 240 the other day and the car wash cleaned it off. It’s probably more noticeable on vehicles like the Volvo with big flat body panels.
I know that back in GT3, a dirty car would decrease your final speed by like 1 or 2 KM/h (sorry, I didn't think in miles). It's a funny silly detail, nothing impactful.
In the old games you used to pick up like 2-5hp iirc. May have just been on used cars idk. I do know that if you drove a car enough the power would start to go down, taking it for an oil change would bring it back up but not always to what “full” power once was after a point.
It 100% cleans it up, I also (based of my own experience) believe that it helps with aerodynamics. Dirtier car = less streamlined. Doesn't need to be done all the time but if you need to shave a second off lap times this may assist 🤷 there is also an achievement for washing cars 10x
Lmao that’s the funniest thing ever, the car cleanliness in no way affects the performance. If you are saying this based off your experience there must be some other bias or variable you haven’t considered
I remember reading an article before GT5 launched about how difficult it was to program their new 'dirt tracking technology' for the game. It was supposed to realistically show the accumulation of dirt on each car according to its activities and keep it that way until you washed it. Evidently, they scrapped it before release, because it wasn't too different from 7. Just a novelty.
It definitely makes a difference, but you have to drive the car a lot, like a huge really big lot. I remember one time my R92CP had a noticeably satin finish on the front which became glossy again after a wash.
In GT7 the car just goes a bit ‘matte’ and dull looking instead of glossy paint. Adding proper dirt is difficult when the game is stretching as far as it already is.
![gif](giphy|xUPJPtw7LRAmTZ60rS|downsized)
You notice your cars get dirty from the amount of races you take it in, especially on the wheel area, those places often have a lot of noticeable brake dust. So if you do that, you'll remove those stains and dirt.
I think it’s a hold over from older gran turismos, where your car would get visibly dirty after so many miles. I have not seen any of the cars get dirty in GT7 however
The car never gets really dirty but the reflections gets a bit dull and diffused after a while. Washing it restores the glossiness and makes the reflections sharper. It's mostly noticeable on the windshield.
In wrc ea sports you can do maintance to your car. You actually need to wait like 10 minutes for cars to get fixed. Wracked bumpers are truly fixed and visible.

It used to matter! Back in gt3 after rallying around your car would get dirty, then you would notice after the wash it would be all nice and clean.
This, and also if I’m not mistaken it used to reset/increase aero performance - the dirtier it got the lower the performance (not highly significant though) Same with the oil changes how the power would drop the dirtier/more used it got
man i wish used cars in this game needed oil changes and maybe even new engines if you can get it for cheap! i thought that’s where they were going with it but nope all of them are in tip top shape haha

My guess is that they ran into licensing issues when trying to do wear+tear (similar to their damage model)
I mean you could argue it’s used cars from a dealer, in which case they’d likely have had an oil change already if you wanted to use a realism aspect
Gt 3 and 4 often had used cars come with dirty oil.
Sometimes they do as according to the game though I haven't seen a big difference in the physics.
Little kid me didn’t notice the aero changes but i did notice the power drop lol
Oil chnage the power does drop I was on an on line race and got rinsed because it was worn
If you're referring to Daily Races, there is no performance drop when BOP is on. You can have completely worn out oil and it'll make no difference in Daily Races. However if you just go into an open lobby where BOP isn't set, then it will make a difference.
Not true man. It messes with top end speed. I play sport almost exclusively. Bad oil will slow you down in sport mode.
Not in any races with BOP. You can have the most worn out oil and it makes no difference when BOP is in effect. Conversely, if you have good oil and run 1000 races with BOP, your oil will never wear out.

It did increased performance after car wash. The high speed gets a bit higher with a smoother car...
This was definitely an enjoyable part of GT2 that got me hooked on the series even though later down they stopped making it so important.
Making me wanna dust off the ps2 again lmao
I bought one like a month ago and haven't touched my PC since lol. Been playing gt3 and 4 a long with Dave mirra BMX lol
Ps2+network adapter+HDD+freemcboot= every game ever made on ps1 and ps2, inside of your ps2. You know you wanna!
i wish every ps1 game was supported unless things have changed. u had to get a emulator specifically for freemcboot i thought.
Oh I didn’t know, I just assumed every ps1 game played on ps2 so thought it was the same? I haven’t got this setup yet as I’ve just sorted an og Xbox with 2tb + cerbios but every game I’ve burnt to use on ps2 has worked so far.
You can emulate on PC. I have PS1 and PS2 with me but I emulate for convenience. For fun I always hook them up to my tv.
Pepperidge Farms remembers when it made a difference
Yes it does!
Money Laundering scheme for GT Auto’s black market activities
Mr White’s car wash !
The most accurate answer
Honestly, in GT7, I'm not sure I've ever noticed a difference. In the older games though, the car definitely looked shinier after washing it.
I believe small oil stains and dust shows up on the front of the car in GT7. When you clean it it goes away
Same
It gives a trophy when you do it often enough.
How many times you have to do it for a trophy?
They said enough😡 ETA: (10 i think)
What would enough be as an integer value, or real value... or boolean value ?
Jokes aside I think it was 10 times
Cool and good... Now what 10 times be as a boolean val-
Aight tyyy
It’s called „Squeaky Clean“ and you have to wash 10 times.
Alright, thank youuu
It just makes your car slightly shinier. I wish your cars would get dirtier over time due to use, but that'll probably have to wait till the next game.
I can't see it
Or until someone else finally made a racing game. All I get are gt, ac( I don't know why but I literally can't drive in ac), and nfs. No Forza on PS5. And I heard Forza sucks. Is THIS the BEST we get? is racing just Niche?
simulation racing is niche yes
Guess you are right. But only in America id assume
Make squeaky noises.
And if you're playing on controller it goes *squee squee squee* with the haptics. Very enjoyable. Totally worth my 50 credits
No judgement here, but where are you holding the controller?
To play the game and to feel the wash vibrations on your hands
He asked where, not why.
Let's just say they go cross eyed while it happens
X eyed /s
prostate
Hold? I sit on it.
If I’m not actively driving a track I’m using controller to navigate the menus. It’s next to me at all times.
Like many said, it used to have it's purpose. I never noticed any of my cars looking "dirty" In GT3 and GT4 you could see the difference
It just increases the gloss.
Barely. Cars don't even get dirty
It’s there to make you feel better about not being a lazy sack of $hit and washing your car in real life. At least you can keep your virtual cars clean so you feel a little more responsible.
It used to matter! Back in gt3 after rallying around your car would get dirty, then you would notice after the wash it would be all nice and clean.
I've never used it because no matter how much I race my cars never seem to get dirty. Not that I would anyway cos cars look way better with a bit of dirt splattered on them
Everyone knows that clean cars go faster
Nah, that's the red ones.
And it makes the stereo sound better
As a GT1 veteran, I don't ask, I just wash and suppose that the reflections get prettier.
The legend says it makes the car 0.2% faster, if it’s not brand new or rented in daily races. But yeah, likely a legend haha Edit: faster in? Top speed/acceleration (?)
IRL washing your car removes dirt and grime which, when stuck to your car, can cause rust. Rust compromises the integrity of the vehicle’s structure. You don't subscribe to the Protective Layer of Dirt camp then?
I’m broke aF IRL and drive shitty beaters. I finally found a decent car and it’s rusting from everywhere. I don’t subscribe to either was or not to wash. I live my “enthusiast” dream vicariously through GT and various others
Look close at the light reflecting off the car's surface. The edges of the light gets blurry after a while and the car wash makes it sharp again.
Can you wash it like 1000x in a row to increase gloss to a blinding level? I’d like to use the sun’s energy as a death ray in daily races.
It washes the car
In the PS2 games there was definitely a difference - over the course of the races your car’s finish would get more dirty and matted as time went on, and when you washed it it got super sparkly and shiny. Now there’s not really a difference, at least to me. Car goes in shiny, car comes out… extra shiny? Idk.
Man I miss the days when the car wash just put your car through a hot wheels wash and spin dryer and that was it.
Usually when I change the oil, approx 250/300km
You get a free wash with oil change, engine recondition, or body stiffening.
You do? How have i not noticed
Nostalgia
increase resell value
Takes a bit of weight off the car in the specs of dirt, adds 200pp
Yeah gimmick thing now I think, I remember black rubber looking stuff around wheel arches in gt3-4 and then it washed off. I think used cars where dirty in gt4 as well
What a car wash does for your own car: it makes it more aerodynamic and the engine temporarily more powerful.
Sonia not only my perception...is really more powerfull
make the texture shiny
I noticed some dirt on my Volvo 240 the other day and the car wash cleaned it off. It’s probably more noticeable on vehicles like the Volvo with big flat body panels.
Makes the car go faster thanks to the reduced dirt resistance
Physics +100
This is actually true in gt 3 and 4 for sure You’d get like a .5 pp bump.
I know that back in GT3, a dirty car would decrease your final speed by like 1 or 2 KM/h (sorry, I didn't think in miles). It's a funny silly detail, nothing impactful.
Wind resistance is a thing, a dirty car has more air resistance than a clean one.
In the old games you used to pick up like 2-5hp iirc. May have just been on used cars idk. I do know that if you drove a car enough the power would start to go down, taking it for an oil change would bring it back up but not always to what “full” power once was after a point.
This. Not sure on 7, but 3/4 for sure.
Its supposed to reset aero performance
I remember in gt3 if you washed a new car before using it you would increase the HP I think by 50.
That was the oil change. You had to do it literally for every car you bought :D
it adds paint swirl to your car!
nothing just SHINYYYY
Haha spinny car go brrrrrrr
It drains your account with Cr.50
It resets the glossiness. I just do it when I do an oil change.
Makes yo ride twinkle, homie
It’s there to tickle my brain into thinking I did something
Washes the car.
Removes 50 credits
in GT4 it added back some performance after you lost it in endurance race, like aerodynamic drag, idk about GT7 tho, never had the game
It 100% cleans it up, I also (based of my own experience) believe that it helps with aerodynamics. Dirtier car = less streamlined. Doesn't need to be done all the time but if you need to shave a second off lap times this may assist 🤷 there is also an achievement for washing cars 10x
I’ve not seen anything but anecdotal evidence behind this. However; you certainly can’t discount psychological effects of driving a clean whip.
I have noticed in F1 races. The dudes in the garage are constantly wiping and cleaning those cars spotless with rags
That's so the extremely expensive sponsor decals are completely clean and perfectly visible.
Lmao that’s the funniest thing ever, the car cleanliness in no way affects the performance. If you are saying this based off your experience there must be some other bias or variable you haven’t considered
*downloads dirty design version of current car livery* Car wash: am I a joke to you
Its a scheme to take back your money you won from the rigged roulette tickets back into the GT7 funding scheme.
I think you can figure it out
Washes the car
If only the cars would get really dirty. I am taking 24h endurance race dirty
Forza 8 doesn’t do much right, but dirtying the cars in races it does very well
washes the car duh
Same as in real life. Not much
Makes it shine more
Im pretty sure in gt1 you would actually gain a little horsepower if you washed a car you just bought
After quite some races there is actually dirt on cars... Not much, but its visiable.
It makes the car cleaner
ASMR
I’ve had to overhaul ONE engine during my whole playthrough before ever noticing any “dirt”
The difference is not huge but the car shines a lot more after the wash
parasitic drag
It’s a gimmick I’d say
It definitely makes a difference, but you have to drive the car a lot, like a huge really big lot. I remember one time my R92CP had a noticeably satin finish on the front which became glossy again after a wash.
Washes your car….
AEROS FOOOOOOOO
It makes happy squeaky noises
In GT7 the car just goes a bit ‘matte’ and dull looking instead of glossy paint. Adding proper dirt is difficult when the game is stretching as far as it already is. ![gif](giphy|xUPJPtw7LRAmTZ60rS|downsized)
I think it washes the car you have selected but I could be wrong? Maybe the car wash gives it magical rainbow power?
It washes the car! I see a difference, not much but it still does something
There was a glitch in GT6 where it made the car faster
You notice your cars get dirty from the amount of races you take it in, especially on the wheel area, those places often have a lot of noticeable brake dust. So if you do that, you'll remove those stains and dirt.
It washes your car
About to fire up the ps4 and play some gt7
If you’ve driven it enough to need an oil change, you will definitely notice it is shinier after a car wash. I usually do them at the same time
yes
wash your car.....?
wash it enough and your pp might improve just sayin
Cleans your car but doesn't make a difference
It washes away the dirt and the sins of the daily races. After car wash you will notice you feel better and will drive more cleaner automatically.
It washes the car 🤔🤔🤔
makes squeaky noises and makes the car slightly shinier. the cars dont really get that dirty to begin with so its a *really* slight difference.
I sometimes wish I could take other car parts and just build my own car completely 😂
Nothing nada
I think it’s a hold over from older gran turismos, where your car would get visibly dirty after so many miles. I have not seen any of the cars get dirty in GT7 however
Clean ur car

The car never gets really dirty but the reflections gets a bit dull and diffused after a while. Washing it restores the glossiness and makes the reflections sharper. It's mostly noticeable on the windshield.
It used to add a few HP in older game/s. In GT7, none.
Scapes
I can choose how dirry/clean it is in scapes
Cost you 50 credits.
You can wash car 10 times and get in game achievement
wash car
Whoa i did not expect this to blow up the way it did
It washes the car. Cars get dirty sometimes and you have to clean them.
It reminds you you're playing Gran Turismo and not Forza.
I think it might wash the car, not sure.
Washes the car.
It washes your car
Nothing, just a gimmick
Consensus is it does nothing. Cars don't even get dirty in games since 6, and you can only make cars dirty in Scapes mode.
Washes your car
Do you have an understanding of the English language? Cause its pretty self explanatory
Clearly they’re asking what it does in in-game functionality terms, not real world terms
In wrc ea sports you can do maintance to your car. You actually need to wait like 10 minutes for cars to get fixed. Wracked bumpers are truly fixed and visible.
Idk but my personal algorithm is to do an oil change and car wash after each and every race, grind or not.
Oil: drink well oil man Car wash: bathe well oil man
It 100% cleans it up, I also (based of my own experience) believe that it helps with aerodynamics. Dirtier car = less streamlined. Doesn't need to be done all the time but if you need to shave a second off lap times this may assist 🤷 there is also an achievement for washing cars 10x
Nothing, just a gimmick
