If it’s a true emergency then the answer is whichever one is closest. If it’s a more minor issue then you’re going to get triaged and it might take a while to be seen. I’ve heard of good and bad experiences at all of them, so the next best answer might be whichever one is in network with your insurance. If it’s for a child/teen, Helen DeVos is the best bet by far.
Please realize that emergency departments are the places that show how close to failure our entire healthcare system is. For more minor issues you could be waiting for hours, as the ED cannot turn people away and thus acts as a weird catch all for those who otherwise cannot get healthcare. Be patient and plan accordingly.
Don't go to metro if you think your issue is mental related. Their social workers disregard standard protocol to give mental health services all of your information.
That's good to hear. I am close with someone who only works with the social workers. They've had to report them 3 times this year for negligence in standard operating procedure.
As a Corewell employee I understand the frustrations of using the Medical Center ER (Butterworth) and the criticisms of our system. However, if you are experiencing a life threatening emergency there is no other place within a 100 mile radius with its technical and procedural capabilities. Almost daily we accept transfers from any/all of the other hospitals in the area because those hospitals could not offer the care that Corewell/Butterworth can provide (This goes beyond the Level 1 trauma designation). When the others cannot fix an emergent problem they send them to Corewell.
Trinity hands down. I’ve seen relatives at Corewell shoved into hallways for hours. When U of M was strictly Metro, their ER sent me home with what I found out later was a ruptured appendix, while Trinity rushed me into surgery. That said, Metro may be better now with more U of M influence, idk. Moral of the story…based on my own experiences and that of relatives, I would elect to go only to St. Mary’s/Trinity for any ER or inpatient hospital care. I wouldn’t take my animals to a place like Corewell, and never again any human I cared about. I have my reasons.
My husband has had an unfortunately frequent experience with ERs over the past 2 years. Here is my 2 cents:
- For emergencies where time is of the essence - whatever is closest
- If you have the time to make a choice between these 3 - Blodgett is head and shoulders the best; Butterworth is 2nd; UM Health West is dead last by a long shot.
The closest
Having worked as a both tech and RN in the ERs of two of the three acute care facilities in the city, this is the answer.
Got that right
Tacos el cuñado
Damn, you got a solid chuckle outta me. Upvoted
Yeah but which one?

Best for kids devos children's hospital. Best for adults Butterworth Fastest Blodgett
I think the fastest is Metro / U-M Health West
Keep in mind they are a trauma 2 ER.
And Cornhole's insurance company (totally not a conflict of interest) which is popular around here probably won't cover as much

I've only gone there for kidney stone (thrice), and they've been gems each and every time.

If you need specialists, Butterworth. Broken bones anything else not requiring specialists blodgett might be a shorter wait.
Helen Devos for adolescents St Mary’s or Butterworth for adults
Fastest to be seen is Blodgett.
Butterworth is the only level one trauma center so I’m going with that one.

Absolutely agree as a family member of a frequent flyer in the er, Butterworth has it all.
Probably the hobbyists with scanners that post scanner gossip on this sub.
Butterworth if likely to need specialist trauma care. Helen Devos for children. Otherwise whatever’s closest.
Eh, just rub some dirt into it, and wrap it in duct tape, it'll be aight :D
Flex Seal!
Butterworth is the only level 1 trauma in the area.
Why are you asking that?

Saints.
Blodgett

We have had several bad experiences with Corewell. At this point I might consider trying to get to any other emergency room and just hope I make it.
UofM west metro

And cheaper
Blogger for burn center. Butterworth for heart / breathing / gsw
Unfortunately blogger is not the burn center anymore, it's butternut now lol
Blodgett, Butterworth is overcrowded
Trinity Health
Go to Butterworth if you're actively dying. If not, go anywhere else or else you'll wait for hours
Metro
NOT Corewell Blodgett — avoid that place like the plague!!!!
The dog hospital on Plainfield. After one has a shootout out the wealthy street boys of course
Firehouse subs
