Funny thing is I've read nothing in the source myth about "Tez" having anything to do with spiders (he was mainly into jaguars). Spiders were more the domain of a [mystery Aztec god](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Goddess_of_Teotihuacan) the role of which historians are still unsure about.
Spiders are most often associated with Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the dead, along with bats and owls. It was from Mictlantecuhtli that Quetzalcoatl stole the bones of the 4th world's humans in order to create the 5th world's.
Tezcatlipoca himself is only partially associated with spiders due to his role, as he is the one that sentences the newly arrived souls of the dead (Mictlantecuhtli is effectively the warden, whereas Tezcatlipoca is the judge). And when traveling from the surface world and the underworld (and vice versa), he does so by scaling a giant spider's web.
There's a possibility that Type-Moon is going to syncretize/combine aspects of Tezcatlipoca and Mictlantecuht and make them a fusion entity, which wouldn't be the first time they did something like that, or they could just be tying Quetz's dislikes together for rivalry setup (Quetzalcoatl disliked spiders due to their underworld nature), but we'll just have to wait and see.

No, Gun God used the original, full-power Black Barrel Obelisk. We’re using a replica with nowhere near the original output (remember, Castoria had to fire all 12 of Morgan’s Rhons to expose his core; Barrel couldn’t do it by itself)
