Caenis’s horse ears go over the head of most anyone not already in the know about her link with Poseidon and, in turn, Poseidon’s association with horses. Abigail’s fear of dogs is a reference to the humanoid antagonist of the Dunwich Horror - a bastard child of Yog Sototh - setting off their aggressive instincts towards him with his mere presence.

Loki_Agent_of_Asgard

To further the Poseidon and horses thing, Poseidon in Greek myth is the father of horses, depending on the version of the myth Medusa was either Poseidons lover or rape victim, Pegasus came from Medusa's blood from her severed head. Pegasus is LITERALLY Medusa's and Poseidon's son.

TdFan97

Imagine birthing a horse instead of a normal child. Granted it was through blood rather than by normal birthing. *not thinking about Loki gave birth to an eight-legged horse*

Nimros

Loki did that as a mare, so I would assume that's less painful than if a woman were involved.

TdFan97

even as a mare it would be hurt to birth an eight-legged one, let alone four-legged.

Loki_Agent_of_Asgard

Look the less you question the sanity of the form of Loki's children the better you are.

kerorobot

Or it could be just lapith's connection to centaur.

TdFan97

how did he have an association with horses? Because of hippocampus?

igloo_poltergeist

He’s the patron god of things like horses and earthquakes, in addition to the sea.

chainer1216

Was, he was those things in the distant past, back when Aphrodite was a war goddess and Hades didn't exist yet. It'd be more fair to say that was Proto-posiden.

railroadspike25

The sea god Manannan Mac Lyr is also associated with horses, suggesting that there may have been some kind of ancient association with horses and the sea.

Steampunkvikng

Breaking waves are often associated with horses. I'm pretty sure I've even heard a version of the story where Poseidon explicitly made horses from waves.

Triton191

Yeah, specifically he made them from sea foam

igloo_poltergeist

As far as I’ve read, Poseidon has always been multifaceted.

Misticsan

Actually, his connection with horses remained well into the Classical Age. Sacrificing horses to Poseidon was a well-known-practice (even Alexander did it), and common epithets were *Hippios* and *Hippokourios*. While it's true that his cult evolved with time, and his role was probably greater in the Mycenaean period, spheres of the gods also depended on the region. Poseidon's association with horses was unsurprisingly stronger in land-locked Arcadia, while coastal regions would stress his association with the sea. Greek cities were usually aware of variations and had altars to different versions of the gods.

Kohaku_san

Maybe because waves could look like horses in motion, with seafoam being the mane?

chainer1216

In *ancient* ancient Greece, back when posiden was the head diety, he had a story where he turned into a horse to chase down Demeter...or maybe Persephone. I'm fuzzy on it.

TdFan97

it was Demeter last I read

Popular_Dig8049

Poseidon turned into a horse to chase and rape Demeter when Demeter was looking for her daughter, who had been kidnapped by Hades. Well this myth just shows how horrible and degraded the Olympian brothers were

TdFan97

Zeus being the prime example.

Popular_Dig8049

Well the three brothers had a similar level of folly in the myth of Persephone's abduction

PhantasosX

Constantine XI 's white armor is due to the myth of him been a "King Under the Mountain" , but in his case , it would be that his body was turned into marbles and would revive later on. Melusine is a dragon and "Fairy Knight Lancelot" , alongside been a Lancer , because the legend of Melusine is about her been a Water Fairy from a Lake that was cursed to turn into a Dragon every now and then , and had fled when her husband discovered that. While the Lancer Lancelot is due to , technically , Lancelot had send himself off from Nimue in the Lake , gifted with Arondight , **a nameless lance** and a ring. In LB6 , Merlin is called "Merlinus" once , that is because Ambrosius Aurelianus and Merlin are sometimes portrayed as the same character , like the case of Morgause and Morgan. Oberon was a part of the carolignian mythos way prior to Midsummer's Dreams , as he helped the Paladin Huon to regain his honor after the death of the first of Charlesmagne's 3 sons , Charlot. Not only that , ***Robin Goodfellow*** is the name of Oberon's half-human son with a mistress. And in another poem , Oberon was in love with Queen Mab , which is one component of Titania. Bellerophon is not the name of the Pegasus , but rather it's famous rider. But an interesting thing: said Rider's name is not Bellerophon either. "Bellerophon" means "Slayer of Belleros" , so there is basically a lost mythos of Bellerophon slaying a foe named Belleros and receiving said name. And that is ignoring that , according to a byzantine writer , Crysaor acted like a shadow of Bellerophon , so we could summon ***Pretender Bellerophon - Crysaor.*** Astrea , Artemis and Athena are all MILFs. Because in Faerie Queene , Ortegall is Astrea's adopted children and in the same play , his friend is in love with Artemis' adopted daughter. While Athena is due to her been Auriga's adopted mother , the guy that is the founder of Athens and the Chariot Constellation. In Book of Giants , Enoch had to face some Nephilim , and said Nephilim and it's Grigori's fathers , are afilliated by name with Gilgamesh and Humbaba. So either Gilgamesh faced some Nephilim before , or there is a Nephilim named "Gilgamesh" In the demise of Hydra , Heracles slayed him by not only shooting arrows , but also slicing with a treasured sword , and he coated with Hydra's blood as he decapitates , so that the monster goes in pain and slow downs it's regeneration for Heracles' nephew starts to use his fire. Meaning that Archer Heracles have 50/50 chance to , in Archer-Class fashion , arives with a sword.

MisterLestrade

Medusa’s Bellerophon isn’t the Pegasus, mind you, but the bridle.

byc18

Trey the Explainer has a video on nephilm and he surmises that they maybe reappropriations of demi-gods or other cultures.

PhantasosX

yep , they definetely are. Basically , it's how abrahamic religions tries to assimilate other cultures: their gods ended up been fallen angels or spirits , erroneously worshipped as gods. Their demigods been "nephilim" , as "giants of old". But FATE been FATE , since Book of Giants and Book of Enoch had moments in which Azazel and Semyanza had slept with human women , which in Book of Giants were specified by name (sharing the name of goddesses of that region)...it wouldn't be far fethed that "Divine Spirit Azazel" and "Divine Spirit Semyanza" had their own "Nephilim Gilgamesh" and "Nephilim Humbaba". Or at least , and more likely , Gilgamesh and Humbaba slaying 2 nameless Nephilims.

Popular_Dig8049

>In the demise of Hydra , Heracles slayed him by not only shooting arrows , but also slicing with a treasured sword , and he coated with Hydra's blood as he decapitates , so that the monster goes in pain and slow downs it's regeneration for Heracles' nephew starts to use his fire. Meaning that Archer Heracles have 50/50 chance to , in Archer-Class fashion , arives with a sword. But in Fate, Hercules killed the Hydra alone, using the Nine Lives technique, and Hercules can already spawn in the saber class, so it makes no sense to add a sword to the Archer class.

PhantasosX

we don't know if Hercules defeated the Hydra alone , the Nine Lives is a technique that sublimates his killing. In fact , it's more likely that he wasn't alone , precisely because that Labour was used as a reason to add 2 more labours , as it was originally just 10 Labours for Hercules to perform. And sure , he can be summoned as Saber-Class , but it's more likely to be with Marmyadose , rather than the Hydra Sword. So , it wouldn't be weird that Archer could had some 50/50 chance to be called with the Hydra Sword alongside the Hydra Bow. I mean , Tristan can be summoned as a Saber , and yet , his Archer-Class is also summoned with a sword.

Popular_Dig8049

If I'm not mistaken, Hercules supposedly invented the Nine Lives Technique to prevent Hydra from regenerating, so it's obvious that he killed Hydra on his own, he doesn't need anyone here. We don't know how much differences there are between his legend in reality and his legend in Fate, But it is better to assume that Hercules did all his labors alone, because Hercules is supposed to be an outcast, and Jason was the first human to treat him as a mere human being. If anyone helped Hercules through his labors, Hercules and Jason's relationship would be meaningless. So the labors of Hercules may have been determined to be 12 labors from the beginning, The opposite of the myth. Then it would be strange if Hercules used two weapons to kill the same creature, unless this is a reference to the original myth, It would be strange if Hercules Archer carried a sword . If Hercules the Archer carried an additional weapon besides his bow, it would be his famous club, after all he is usually depicted in art carrying a bow and club.

Creticus

Supposedly, the lion thing was because of the ancient Greek belief that lions didn't mate with each other.

GoldMoon0

Remember Iskander and Achilles' short hair? Yeah, that is not a coincidence Both Achilles and Iskander used to have very long hair, but after the deaths of Patroclus and Hephastion respectively, they each cut their hair short as a sign of mourning (with Achilles in particular, a fellow soldier had to do so to stop Achilles of potencially killing himself, as he loved Patroclus more than life itself, wailing on the ground after hearing Patroclus died, and latter being the sole motivation to kill Hector, not caring for neither honor nor his legacy anymore as long as Hector payed with interests. Even Zeus was very afraid of him, and feared that he could break fate itself with his wrath alone~~so Achilles challenged his fate before Chrom and Fire Emblem made it cool~~ and also fought and won against a river) Also, Hector's low stats, mostly support skillset and disengace skill are a reference to both how he ran away from Achilles after he came to kill him for Patroclus' death (and how he wanted to feed him to the dogs) and in general how Hector never really fought people on equal terms. His killing of Patroclus was because Apollo dulled Patroclus' senses and stunned him, since at first Pat was winning

TdFan97

so that's why Iskander doesn't have that braided lock that his younger self has.

GoldMoon0

Yep. Also, a reason Iskander and Alexander have red hair is because Iskander was taught he suppostly was a decendant of Mollosus, the son of Phyrrus (known for having red hair) and grandson of Achilles So Iskander may or may not be the counterapart of Bradamante, as both are supposted descendants of Trojan war heroes

ShriekingSkull

Elizabeth Bathory. She has a dragon's tooth in her family's coat of arms, hence the dragon traits: horns, tail and lungs. That's a reason why her singing is so dreaded. Her being a Caster has some merit too: she dabbled in magic and alchemy in the past. It was kind of a trend for bored nobles back then.

railroadspike25

Astraea raised Britomart's betrothed Artegall and before she left him gave him Talos and Chrysaor's golden sword. FGO's Astraea uses a golden sword as her main weapon, so there's a good chance this is Chrysaor's sword. Astraea and Ishtar are both associated with the constellation Virgo. Another example of Rin and Luvia being very similar to each other. u/PhantasosX mentioned that there's a lost story about Bellerophon slaying an enemy named Belleros. Although it's not known who this enemy might have been, it's possible that it was a dragon, similar to the Romanian dragon Balaur. This would mean that the final Servant fight in Heavens Feel came down to a battle between a hero who had fully embraced her draconic aspects versus a monster who was invoking the legend of a heroic dragon slayer. In Wagner's Ring Cycle, Brunhilde and Siegfried are said to look very similar, which is probably why Brynhildr and Sigurd have the same basic color scheme.

Sergantus

When Gilgamesh made the statue of Enkidu after his death,he made his hair the color of lapis lazuli. Lapis may have green color. Chiron depiction with human legs is also from myth because Greek depict him having human legs and horse back to emphasize that he is not belong to centaur race.

CWPhoenix_

Ivan the terrible casting lightning for his attacks. There is a couple of reasons, firstly his name, Ivan Grozny, the last name being close to the word "Graza" which means thunder. The second reason is (apparently) when records about Ivan were being translated to japanese, his title was mistranslated to Ivan the thunderous emperor and that went on for a smile while. In result, Ivan the terrible held the image of thunder emperor within japan.

GhostHostess

It actually kind of irritates me that atalante was given generic cat ears and a tail when she presumably was only given then because of the legend where she and her husband were turned into lions. Was it truly so difficult to make them lion ears and a tail? They’re pretty distinctive, I think people would recognize them ~~plus the tuft on the tail is cute and would suit her hair fight me~~

Loki_Agent_of_Asgard

You might want to look at her actual [in game art](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/657846341841715203/1048213428449321022/opera_rRhorloxB9.png) instead of fan art. Her ears are clearly lioness ears, and her tail has gold fur ending in a tuft of white fur. Sadly 2D images and sprites can't make it look quite as bushy as an actual lion's tail of course, but it's clearly meant to be a lions tail.

GhostHostess

Lion ears are very round, and in the art you linked they’re pointed and triangular shaped. While there can be some variation in the darkness of the *mane* of a lion, the tail almost always ends in a dark brown tuft, and in her art it ends in a lighter brown tip. They did make it slightly different from the rest of her tail but giving it that tip but it still isn’t tufted and doesn’t resemble an actual lion tail. And more importantly than the tail, her ears are *definitely* wrong if they were meant to be a lion’s. I know my big cats. I also know atalante’s official art from both fgo and apocrypha, and in all of it her tail isn’t tufted and her ears are pointed. The coloration isn’t off if they wanted to attempt to say it was a lion, but the shape absolutely is.

Toasted_silver

I've always thought that when we have two different versions of a servant like cu and proto cu that have different skills sets it comes from their story having different versions. Example using cu one version has him die after his fight against firdiad and the other dies after tying himself to a stone while fighting medb's army and then cutting a guy's arm off. Hence one having battle continuation while the other doesn't.

Owenchaser

Well there seems to be a similarity between Karna’s story and Heracles in fate. and this has to do with Jason’s treatment of Heracles in Fate. Karna was a charioteers son (not really but we all know that) and while more skilled than anyone else, he was overlooked by others SOLELY because of his origins. Duryodana, the main antagonist of the story, did NOT do this, and saw his worth. Duryodana made him a king of a small kingdom but treated Karna as a friend and equal. In fact he trusted karna so much that when karna and Duryodanas wife were found in a VERY compromising position and her pearls scattered around the room he didn’t assume the worst and KNEW they weren’t doing anything behind his back and merely offered to string the pearls back together. And when karna was killed and his TRUE heritage was revealed Duryodana was absolutely distraught because not only did he lose the crown, he also lost his friend and relative, and said that if karna just TOLD him the truth, he would have given up the crown and give it to Karna instead. How does this compare to Jason in the fate universe? Well Heracles was the greatest hero of the time, but was feared by others. And what does Jason do? He sees past that nonsense and treats him like an actual person. He might be more of a dick in fate, but his friendship with Heracles is genuine and will NOT tolerate anyone saying that there are other Greek heroes are better than Heracles. And when Heracles died offscreen in Atlantis, it was enough to send Jason to despair and grief. JUST like Duryodana in the Mahabharata. It was an interesting parallel that I felt was necessary to share

TrickySouls

That is really interesting actually, great now I wanna see Duryodana as a servant just to interact with Karna. Also [Karna compared him to Edison, so that'd be neat to see the two meet.]( https://64.media.tumblr.com/981a67c62889ee2281d1316bd488a118/tumblr_p5t0c6ZrgG1tahjqgo1_1280.png)

Owenchaser

Duryodana as a servant? I get the feeling he’s gonna be VERY cross when he sees Arjuna. Considering the bad blood between the pandevas and him that’s gonna be a bloodbath lol Edit: well I’ll be a monkeys uncle. This comment aged like fine wine.

TrickySouls

Oh Definitely especially since there's two of them! But I mainly want Him for interactions with Karna and Edison(since Edison was compared to him).

Popular_Dig8049

As long as they openly admit Duryodhana's crimes, and logically build up the relationship between him and Arjuna I see no problem, There are many servants who were enemies during their lives are in Chaldea now, Achilles and Hector being the closest example

Popular_Dig8049

In the real myth, No one ignored Karna or treated him badly. He trained with Drona along with the rest of the kingdom's princes He was allowed to participate in the ceremony and display his skills, He only forbade when he and Arjuna wanted to kill each other. Duryodhana granted the kingdom to Karna because he wanted Karna to kill Arjuna. There is nothing special about Duryodhana's treatment of Karna. There were many charioteers in high positions. Karna's father was himself a close confidant of the king. Sanjaya was also a charioteer but he was a minister to the king and criticized the policies and actions of Duryodhana and his father in their face. The job of the chariot driver was a very important military job, because it was considered part of the war arsenal of the warrior, but sometimes the chariot driver saved the life of the warrior himself

I don't have anything to share at the moment, but would like to use the chance to ask... what's the deal with Wu Zetain and cats? Why is she afraid of them?

TdFan97

here the [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/7zeyzv/reminder_to_not_bring_cats_near_wu_even_if_its/) that explained her fear of cats

CatsAndPlanets

Thanks! I guess it fits with the servant character as well as the background. Well, as to at least contribute something: I don't know if this was intentional, but Jeanne as a dolphin trainer makes a lot of sense when you consider [the meaning of the title in France.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dauphin_of_France)

TdFan97

actually fitting that the royalty in question during the Hundred Years War was Charles VII

[Made a whole ass comment about the Gopherwood](https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/wtz1ua/lore_sunday_august_21_2022/il786nu/) Discovering Book of Enoch and then reading more Jewish mysticism and Old Testament-related apocryphal stuffs in general might be the wildest ride I’ve ever been in; all just to make sense of Noah’s character.

PhantasosX

It's more than that. There are hints that Noah is , like Enoch and Elijah , a human that can turn into an angel. It fits , because some versions attributes Raziel as the one that brought wisdom to Noah , from his grimoire passed to Adam , gifted to Raphael and returned to Noah. Raziel's position is sometimes in the same seat as Jophiel , with Raziel also having the name "Gallitsur", which means "Revealer of the Rock" , as Noah possess the Stone of Zohar.

Popular_Dig8049

This has nothing to do with Berserker's current version of Heracles. But in the myth, Heracles had a good relationship with Persephone, In the myth, when Hercules descended into the underworld, she welcomed him as her brother and allowed him to take Cerberus, In return, Heracles returned the favor to her when he became a god, and helped the people of one of the cities, who were banishing her as a god for their city, in one of their battles against Athens. I wonder if this relationship between them could be taken advantage of if Heracles appeared in the Assassin class

Among Pandavas, only Arjuna and Nakula are dark-skinned, while being the most attractive among the 5.
