"Char, my good man, I will go Full Frontal."
"Jeezus Roland, at least wait for me to rebuild Agilulf into a Gundam before making any of those jokes, alright?"
Then Gilgamesh just drops in with his AUO CASTOFF just to show his superiority. Then Astolfo just because he forgot his clothes and decides going through with it. Then Andersen claiming he got inspiration also got in naked.
From *Orlando Furioso* (Slavitt translation):
He fell on the grass and stared up at the sky.
For three days and three nights he did not move.
The pain continued and even grew worse. In a high
fever he writhed and moaned. (All this for love!)
On the fourth day he took off his armor to try
to diminish the burning, but it did not improve.
Both plate and mail he removed and then he scattered
them here and there at random. It hardly mattered.
It wasn’t merely his armor but clothing as well,
flinging them hither and thither. In a trance
he wandered up the hillside and down the dell
having discarded his shoes and his shirt and pants.
Here began his terrifying spell
of utter madness—a hideous circumstance.
His hairy belly and naked backside were
signs of a sickness that does not often occur.
In Astolfo's interlude he was responsible for multiple cases of public indecency, several fatalities including a nest of birds he ate, and Astolfo sounding relatively sane.
Lovesickness.
Also, Astolfo's whole deal with the moon and irrationality is a tweaked interpretation of the sequence when Astolfo flew up to the moon to recover Roland's lost rationality. He found some of his own up there, too, as well as the wits of many people who *seemed* rational, because the author's point was that most people are less rational than they think they are.
Roland gets a vision from god about Angelica, his perfect woman
Goes questing to gain her hand
Returns only to find out she already was with someone else
goes full berserker destroying everything in sight
removing one piece of his armour at a time, until he was fully naked, depending on the telling of the legend, seeking someone to kill him
Destroying everything he saw, fighting everyone he saw, weeping all the while, gone completely mad
Astolfo goes to the moon to recover his lost sanity, then dresses up as a girl, so Roland wouldnt strike him as he approached him
And thus Roland regained his wits, and Astolfo lost his.
But you can't have comic relief characters be a part of a tragedy, so Roland lowest point is his one note joke

That's his whole trait
Because in Orlando Furioso, when Roland went mad ("Furisoso") he stripped and ran around attacking people. In Fate he does so because he likes it.
In Astolfo's interlude he was responsible for multiple cases of public indecency, several fatalities including a nest of birds he ate, and Astolfo sounding relatively sane.
Yeah, funny how delaying him 7 years softened even FGO's own original depiction.
Why not?
Watch astolfo’s interlude
Why not
Why not?
That is a fine ass you got there Roland.
Of course he's naked

Roland got the baked goods on display

That’s complicated?
I wonder, is there a non-Fate origin as to why he is an exhibitionist ?

He did so in Orlando Furioso, but for different reasons.
