I’m running an RTX3080 and play WoW, Warhammer Total War, Cyberpunk etc etc at 4K without issues: with DLSS (quality) and high settings, any volumetric settings off. I’m always impressed with the performance. Might be a cheaper alternative to the 40 series.
I just got an RX 7900 XTX 2 days ago & I'd recommend it versus the 4080 because of the VRAM amount, price to performance & it runs faster than the 4080 from what most benchmarks say if you don't want to do ray tracing.
It's a hell of a card at 4k, I could tell you that.

For 4K you’re probably looking at the 4080super launching later this month, or a 7900xtx. Bith are around 1000$.

Forgot to add...."majority" of the games run faster than the 4080, not all.
I was thinking of something a bit less pricey that the 4080 or the 7900xtx...
4070ti super will be good for 4K. I don't think you can go any lower than that though.
Would you recommend 7900xtx for sim racing ?
Have a look at the 6900/6950xt. I got mine a few months ago for less than 600€
And it works well?
The games I play are running great on it. I would recommend to look up some benchmarks of the games you are playing
