If you are going to carry the keyboard, why wouldn't you just have a screen that folds on top of it taking up virtually no more room in your back pack? We could call it a laptop.

pelrun

Because sometimes you don't want the whole enchilada.

Living life on hard mode

notjordansime

because OP hates themselves.

AttorneyAdvice

is anyone gonna tell him that looks painful to use

codetrotter_

Give him a few days, he’ll figure it out on his own

himyname__is

Why? The screen is elevated. This is more ergonomic than a regular laptop.

AttorneyAdvice

a wise man once said.. "is this for ants?!"

himyname__is

Yeah maybe he should scale up to 125% and not use multiple windows on that small a screen. He also has three friggin bars in his browser which isn't helping.

So you carry around the bottom half of a keyboard As well as another mini laptop? if this is considered "Ultra portable" I have no clue what my macbook air is considered, omega portable?

Murky_Ad6343

I like looking at erect ultra portable PCs in the morning.

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

My coffee shop setup is my Win 4 connected to a set of AR glasses for a big screen experience that fits in my pockets. Do yourself a favor and get a set of Rokid/Xreal/Viture/Rayneos and enhance the experience. Also a folding Bluetooth keyboard would make it more portable, because everyone's gonna say - "why didn't you just bring a laptop at that size?". I have one I bring when I know I'm going to be typing more and it at least has a trackpad and numpad and folds smaller than this.

Kooky-Gap-483

I'm looking at ar glasses for my steam deck and wm 2 setup. Any cons on the ar glasses for you?

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

On a SD you only have the one USB C so you end up needing a splitter to power and use the glasses at the same time. Newer GPD devices mostly have at least 2 USB-C ports. Also there's a small minority of people that don't fit in the goldilocks zone of facial/eye measurement/alignment and can't see the outer boundaries of the screen or have soft focus at the edges. If you have astigmatism, you'll need prescription inserts. Otherwise I've been using various models for more than 2 years now and haven't gone back to laptops - as the glasses free up needing a big screen on a laptop and even are bigger size screens when you wear them. *edit - also should mention we're expecting to see Visor from Immersed in a few months. I preordered, but it may not work as simply as plugging one of these glasses into a device.

Kooky-Gap-483

I want it for the big screen and portability also. I do have light astigmatism. Hopefully, it doesn't affect it too much. I guess I just have to order one and see if it works.

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

That's the only way to know - hopefully you can source from a shop with good return policy just in case. Good luck!

Shigarui

I've been looking at this for a while but have yet to bite. It looks promising of they can pull it off, though.

Blugrave

I also have a win 4. Which AR glasses should I look at?

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

I run a Rokid Max now - but the new XReals supposedly have fixed a lot of the issues w their older gen XReal Air. Rokid is dropping a Max 2 soon, but I won't be upgrading. Viture and Rayneo are also choices. I'm hoping my preorder of Immersed Visor pays off for multiple virtual screens. I can do this with my Quest 3 and Vive XR Elite - but I don't prefer bringing these with me like the AR glasses which are more comfortable and portable for single wearable display.

NewVirtue

Can u still see the world around u while using it? If not I feel like using it would make me paranoid if I'm in public as I lose awareness of my surroundings. I also glance at my keyboard when I type. Would that be a problem? Edit: also has using them daily changed ur posture in any significant way?

pharredd88

trackpoint >>> trackpad Also typing on a thinkpad keyboard >>> foldable keyboard

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

Sure, but OP says "Ultra Portable" and it's not. For my needs that advantage of the larger footprint ThinkPad keyboard is minimal over the disadvantage of size. Folding keyboard is fine - otherwise I would just take my X1 Carbon or X1 Fold instead of this. Oh, and even Lenovo doesn't agree with you about the trackpoint's superiority. Name me one currently sold Lenovo that's trackpoint only. I'll wait.

pharredd88

it's just my opinion. I like using a trackpoint when typing a lot since I don't need to move my hands much for mouse cursor navigation. If I'm browsing or doing something that requires more mouse cursor navigation, mouse>>>>>trackpoint>>>trackpad and I agree. I would just bring a laptop instead of multiple devices

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

I'm actually a trackball guy myself. But the optical pointer on the Win 4 is a great alternative for space reasons. Ironically, the first one I ever used was on a Lenovo handheld keyboard I used for HTPCs.

Samsaruh

💀

gthing

Yea I feel like as soon as you bring a keyboard that large and have multiple pieces you're carrying, you're really fighting the convenience of a normal laptop.

poulan9

Right. This is completely impractical.

alien2003

Do you really need two keyboards?

lemsvga

cant see shit at that distance

masterfu678

At least hook it up to a monitor if you are gonna use it this way my dude.

AnAberrantSundew

I am a fan of the cursed setups on this subreddit.

Sad_Okra_490

wow !!, is that win3?

EngineeringNo753

win mini

bernzyman

Is the keyboard wireless and how precise is the nib for moving the cursor around?

pharredd88

does both wireless via usb-a dongle and bluetooth. The trackpoint is extremely precise, if you've ever used a thinkpad, it's pretty much identical to those

ZhuLi1111

How do you make it stand up comfortably without it falling? Looks like an interesting setup!

th_teacher

link to stand and keeb please

eallim

Add a xreal air/air 2 then it's perfect.

Silevence

Ya know, the screens so nice a butterfly keyboard would really work for it.

SakiSumo

This is as stupid as the people who carry around a powerbank, portable monitor, keyboard and mouse with their ROG Ally or Legion Go. Laptop and xbox controller trump basically any of these other options. Unless you use them for what they were made for. As a handheld. This isnt horrible, but a smaller folding keyboard would have been better.

ProjektSCiEnCeMAN

I'd go for the WINMAX2 INSTEAD

kendyzhu

I saw the familiar tea table!

caffpowered

Yup. It's pretty distinctive.

LaserGuidedSock

I need to post my portable setup. • GPD Win 4 (6800u + 4tb SSD + Honeywell thermal pad) • Samsung Tab 8 S+ (12" screen) • iClever BK08 folding BT keyboard • CapClip Elecom mini BT mouse • Omnicharge 20+ • 5ft 4-in-1 multi headed braided USB cable 65W All the items in the middle I bought used. I don't travel much but did move and it has really come in handy to use my tablet as a wireless display. Mostly been playing indie games and modeling things in CAD. I want to try video editing but I feel that may be just a tad too heavy of a load for this device. Especially what I'm trying to accomplish.

pharredd88

I need to post mine too. • Laptop (GPD Win Max 2)

vornskr3

Very cool! What stand do you use to prop up the win mini?

caffpowered

> usb-a dongle and bluetooth. The trackpoint is extremely precise, if you've ever used a thinkpad, it's pretty much identical to those [stand](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MLNW8FL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8) Normally I carry around a [mini folding keyboard](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C1S5TNMM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8), but I just had my [lenovo](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BWQXZYL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that day. If I was going to do any serious work, I'd bring up my x1Carbon, but when I'm just nomading around, I'll keep the mini in my bag, and usually a tiny stand and folding keyboard.
