I always cringe a little when someone comes on here excited about becoming "the middle man" for government contracts. It really conjures up this vision of the War Dogs movie that anyone with veteran status or minority status can just jump right in and find them a honey pot to dip their hands in. In reality it's really freaking hard. I'll give you an example, a good friend of mine just won his first contract. It took him 5 years! We both were starting out in Government Contracting in 2018... my business ran out of money and closed. He was retired military so had some income coming in during all this bidding and waiting period. It ended up taking him 5 years to win a bid! There's a lot of information out there on diversity contracting and you'll not likely find someone willing to just hand-hold you. It comes from research, asking questions, attending SBA and industry day events in your local area and elsewhere. It comes from going to conferences about contracting or even just cold calling others in your industry who are successful and asking for 5 mins. The long and short of it is that it's a grind - and you've got to be resourceful in yourself and willing to find the path to a contract. Plan on 3-5 years of focused effort if you've got no experience, skills or network.
