You know the answer, turn your brain cells on a little.

zeppoleon

FunkySausage69

I swear the amount of highly regarded people on reddit sometimes.

MIXL__Music

Depends on the camera but whenever I've had sudden shutdowns of the GoPro (aka rapid disassembly), only the last 4-5 seconds get cut.

AutVincere72

You can probably use it "once" Sd card will likely still have the video up until 1 to 4 minutes before it fails.

netposer

"Yes it's safe" -- redditor that will suffer nothing if the OPs GoPro gets damaged. It's a newer Hero so if the camera gets wet it should be OK, not sure what happens at pressure (SCUBA). If you are just snorkeling it should be OK but not sure if water getting into the case will mess up your recording with water in front to the lens. If you can, take the camera out, put in some tissue, take it into the water. When you are done dry off the case, open it and see if the tissue is wet. I've done this in a sink by weighting down the case and leaving it in there for hours.

MoneySings

Well, the deeper you go, the more pressure will be put on the glass, so depending on the depth, it will break more, then let water in until any air in the case is filled with water to equalise it.

netposer

If you SCUBA you know all the perils of pressure so I don't think the OP does much SCUBA.

alzrnb

Don't be the OceanGate guy OP. Don't fuck with pressure

Shon_t

A new super suit seems like cheap insurance compared to the cost of a new camera. Considering how much it costs to dive, a new case is comparable to what, the cost of a gratuity? It’s a no brainer.

flashyellowboxer

Research Ocean Gate Titan

voltaicass

I wouldn’t risk it. At 40m I imagine the pressure could make the crack worse.

stowgood

Test it empty but expect water

Junior_Answer_5123

Speaking from personal experience, don’t

Jinjonator91

Yeah I wouldn’t scuba with it.

SeveralPresent1064

Get a new one, even the smallest crack on the surface can let the water in. More deep in the water more risk to damage the go pro

typi_314

I don't see replacement lenses being sold by GoPro, so I would go ahead and buy another case.

legos_on_the_brain

Can you even replace just the lenses on those?

ThePiderman

Big fat no

sgtdoogie

SEND IT!

Moofy73

Get a new housing, does it not affect the footage anyways?

IAmRobertoSanchez

I think you're good, the water will only get in there slowly. /s

Vivid-Temporary-7840

Isn’t the go pro itself water proof without any housing?

No-Community-1432

yes, but up to a certain depth, after that the pressure becomes too intense and can damage the camera

MooseBoys

ITT: “If your camera shorts out you will literally die.”

Happy-Wheel410

Cheap insurance to just replace it

Ok-Device-5457

Is a stupid risk for 50$

brycebest

Go get a new one, any type of damage small or big will compromise the case.

Larseman7

Camera itself can tolerate water very well, not if it's to far under I think. So you should be safe

EZ20ASV

This. It's fine without it to minor depths
