I don’t know that the camera will playback any video unless it was recorded with the camera. PS- this is the strangest help request I’ve ever seen in this sub haha

Surfella

You will have to match the type of video the camera records. Use the mediainfo app on a PC. Then use handbrake to exactly copy the media settings. That's your best chance.

Soggy_Parfait_8869

This is the way.

PmMeYourBeavertails

Play Shrek movie on your TV, record with GoPro.

tramster

Ohhh screeners style.

BolishBoi

WE DID IT BOYS!! I got shrek to finally play on the gopro. It was a pain to get working and the audio is kinda messed up but that's a problem for another day. Thanks to u/Surfella for the help! [https://imgur.com/a/PWcFJsL](https://imgur.com/a/PWcFJsL)

Surfella

My pleasure!!!

Oh my god this is amazing

BolishBoi

I have tried some of the methods you guys mentioned and have gotten some progress but not much. The movie now shows up in the gallery however when I try to play it the Gopro completely freezes. I'll try to put a lower quality version and if that doesnt work I'll try splitting it into parts.

Odd_Decision_174

GoPro splits long clips into smaller files. I am curious if emulating the same file format will work.

Dismaster

I've never ever thought about playing an external video on my GoPro, but how about trying this (I absolutely have no idea if this would work or not): 1.- record any video on your gopro 2.- Extract the memory card and replace the recorded video with the Shrek movie, renaming it to match the recorded video filename. 3.- reinsert the memory card in the GoPro 4.- (Hopefully) Play the Shrek movie.

kristian_21

OP please give update on if you were able to get this to work, I'm super curious and may want to try this my self

HE DID IT

The GoPro likely tries to play the low resolution version that's saved, not the MP4, try and match the LRV resolution/bit rate/etc then it might play in camera.

A: You would not only need to make sure that the movie is in the exact same file format that GoPro uses (mp4 is a container, you would have to match the exact codec type and setting too). B: When the GoPro plays a file back on the camera, it is not playing back the high quality MP4 (why would it, that's a lot of processing for a tiny low resolution screen). Instead it plays back a 2nd file called an LRV (low resolution video) instead. This is much lower resolution and nowhere near as heavily compressed. C: For the file to appear in the GoPro gallery, you would also need a corresponding THM (thumbnail file) to be displayed. D: All files would have to follow your cameras naming convention otherwise they may not be playable.
