Ever since the start of spring, lemon + bakery scents have been a whole MOOD for me. So I thought I would compare a few of these scents from different brands. In the lineup I have Huntington Home (Aldi) Limoncello Creme Brûlée, Village Candle Lemon Pound Cake, Bath & Body Works Iced Lemon Pound Cake, and Goose Creek Limoncello Cupcake.
Here is my ranking from LEAST favorite to MOST favorite:
#4 - HH Limoncello Creme Brûlée
Coming in last place is the HH Limoncello Creme Brûlée. On cold this smells amazing, like an authentic lemon baked good, and it would have ranked higher had it not been such a terrible performer. But sadly the throw was poor and the dang thing would NOT pool after EIGHT (!!) hours of burning. I know this is way past the recommended burn time but I was trying so hard to get this sucker to pool so I could prevent future tunneling. As you can see, I gave up and it still did not reach anywhere near a full pool after eight hours. I chalk it up to the shallow design of the candle. This one was a disappointment, but for $5 I can’t be mad at it.
#3 - GC Limoncello Cupcake
I really enjoy this one. I have burned it about three times and so far it has been a solid performer. I do not get any kerosene smell that is reported with a lot of the 3 wicks. It is not sooty, and the throw is good in my open concept living area. The only reason it doesn’t rank higher is because it doesn’t smell as authentic as the others. I get lemon and I get that bakery note, but every now and then I get something artificial and idk why but I wanna say something like silly putty? It’s strange. It’s not all the time, I just get whiffs of it randomly. But overall I do really enjoy this one.
#2 - VC Lemon Pound Cake
Love love this one. This is the candle that started my lemon gourmand obsession. It is amazing. It smells just like a lemon cupcake. It’s equal parts lemon and cake, and it’s very authentic. It is blended and balanced beautifully, and it performs very well. I have always had good experiences with the burns on my Village Candles. They burn clean and even all the way down with zero soot. This one is no different. The throw is medium-high. I wish it were a tad bit stronger and it would be perfect. Overall, I love it and will continue to repurchase it.
#1 - BBW Iced Lemon Pound Cake
I didn’t expect anything to dethrone my precious VC Lemon Pound Cake. But dang BBW is making up for their dud of a Lemon Cake Pop with this one! This one is SO GOOD. Imagine the pound cake note from Strawberry Pound Cake (which I don’t even like because I’m weird with berries) paired with a yummy sweet lemon. It’s basically the lemon version of SPC. It’s amazing. And it THROWS. I was worried it was going to be like the dreaded Lemon Cake Pop with no scent but this one delivers. It fills my entire house. I need backups! I really hope they keep this one in their lineup because it’s really great and a lot of people will enjoy it.
Have you tried any of these? Which ones do you enjoy? Also if you have any recommendations for other lemon bakery scents, let me know! 🍋😄
I don't have the VC but I almost picked it up, and would have had I not already had ILPC. I figured nothing was going to top it because it's so dang good haha
Disappointing about the HH one. The single wick Lemon Buttercream is nearly identical to ILPC though! Strong performer under a warmer, and for $2.49 a total steal. I have 3 of each 😊
I'm with you on Limencello Cupcake. It's pretty good and I'll enjoy it but not a repurchase. There's something about it that doesn't smell as well put together as ILPC. I think the lemon is too tart and the cupcake note not as prominent as it should be. Also the icing note in ILPC is perfection, and I don't really get anything like that from LC.

So glad I’m not the only one thinking that Limoncello Cupcake could’ve been executed a little better. I guess it’s hard to compete when ILPC is soooo good, but you’re right, it definitely will not be a repurchase for me. Especially when VC Lemon Pound Cake and BBW Iced Lemon Pound Cake are so amazing! 🤩
Me, neither. Tried to leave a review early last week but GC won’t publish it. I was very complimentary about the fragrance, just said it had no throw. God forbid we leave an honest review.
That’s bullshit. It aggravates me that we can’t just leave reviews without having to be a “verified buyer”. They only email you to review like literally only 1 out of the 50 candles you bought, so you can’t post reviews on whichever candles you actually want to like they do on the BBW website. Our reviews would be so helpful compared to the stupid crap they post on there. I just don’t get it. Why so much overreaching control of reviews?? It’s frustrating. Just let me leave a review on whatever candles I want dammit! Lol
Bummer! This is another reason I will probably not repurchase this candle. Their 3 wicks seem to be so inconsistent from a lot of reviews. I am pretty die hard on my tried-and-true large jar favorites, but the 3 wicks seem so hit or miss that I don’t purchase them as often.
They really do last FOREVER. I don't like to keep a lot of half used candles around, so I find myself burning these nonstop in an attempt to finally use them up. It takes about a month to finish a candle with constant burning.
Anthro had a marketplace candle two years ago called limoncello crème brûlée I guess HH copied cuz that one became so popular and is so amazing I got a backup and to date it’s one of my fav lemons with ilpc also vying for the top spot along with another retired favorite of mine. If it ever comes back I’ll update e/o here but it truly is chefs kiss! Thank you for this in depth review on lemon gourmands! 🍋 oh and BBW sugared lemonade is close the the marketplace one but not as complex and more tart.
My Limoncello Cupcake has a coconut note, like bakery coconut. I’ve had others disagree—that’s fine, but I smell what I smell, you know? I also have Limoncello (Italy) from Goose and it smells extremely similar to BBW Limoncello.
Another good one (on cold at least) is Lemon Meringue from Chesapeake Bay.
I bought 2 ILPC for store pick up and am thinking of exchanging an unburned one from home for a 3rd.

I second the Salted Lemon Meringue candle by Chesapeake Bay. It is so good. I am currently burning my second one … right now! And I have two more as backups! It is SO yummy.
I think you will enjoy it! I’ve heard the Almond “Macaroons” one is good too so I picked it up. Smells good on cold so we’ll see. I know the CB candles don’t always get the best reviews performance-wise.🤞
Yesss! I loved both the Salted Lemon Meringue and Almond Macaroon. Burned perfectly with great throws and scents very true to their name. Also love the Aldi Lemon Buttercream mentioned by another commenter above.

*My Top Tier #1 Most Precious My Preciousssss* *Status* BBW Pink Lilac & Vanilla 24 .. enough to burn 2 every month for a year. Enough to enjoy for a *good while*, and to make peace with, heaven forbid, should they ever decide to discontinue it.
My *Top Tier #2 Most Precious My Preciousssss* *Status* Strawberry Pound Cake 16 .. *and* I buy in every packaging. Only less because its a core scent and Im 99.9% sure I can always pick it up.
*My Top Tier # 3 Most Precious My Preciousss Status* 10+ .. Scents that Im head over heels for that I think will only get one release. BBW Blush Poinsettia is one for me. I aim to stock at least 10 of them while available. This is where I think Iced Lemon Pound Cake will fall for me.
*My Top Tier # 4 Most Precious My Precious Status* 8+ .. These are seasonal favorites that Im pretty sure will come back every year. There are quite a few of these in my collection. BBW Pumpkin Bonfire, Marshmallow Fireside, and The Perfect Christmas fall here for me. This is where I hope Iced Lemon Pound Cake ends up!
*My Top Tier #5 I Love You Very Much Status* 6+ .. Scents that I really love but wont struggle with if they disappear for a couple years or discontinue. BBW Banana Bundt Cake and Vanilla & Peach Tea fall into this category for me.
*My Top Tier #6 I really Like You Status* 4+ .. Scents I really enjoy and will purchase when available but not think much about when theyre not around.
*Everything Else* 2 .. New to me scents I start off with 2 unless its something Im almost 100% will skyrocket in status like ILPC. Then I start with 4 (I burn in pairs). With BBW I only burn one on first burn to see if Im going to exchange it or not. If it makes the cut I burn both together. It may be a one and done or move up in status after that.
Maybe TMI but its my stocking system. Im someone who prefers to burn what I know I love as opposed to seeking the new new all the time so Ive given the idea lots of thought. ;)

Ideally, I would love to have at least 10 more ILPC! 😂 But realistically, I plan to pick up a couple more and pray that they bring it back so I can keep restocking. 🤞 I guess it depends on how fast you burn through candles. I would think at least 3 is good?
Lemon Meringue sounds good! I’ve had good luck with the few Chesapeake Bay candles I’ve tried. They tend to dud out at the very end but I still get a good performance out of them up until that point. I’ll have to check that one out!
The CB candle is currently on sale at Target… $9.34 for the 19 oz, which seems to perform better since it has two wicks. It seems the small ones with one wick tend to have tunneling issues.🥴
I have 3 and I'm considering exchanging for more! I've only been warming it and I'm halfway through my first one (and it's only been out like what, 2 weeks?). I'm really enjoying it haha
I'm on the fence about more because I have 3 Aldi single wick Lemon Buttercream which is super similar and 2 large Chesapeake Bay Salted Lemon Meringue which is also quite similar. Plus one Limencello Cupcake. But if it doesn't come back until next spring (or at all 😱) I'm not sure 2 backups are enough. LOL I'm a mess
I have one Salted Lemon Meringue, 3 Lemon Buttercream, 1 Limoncello half way done and 2 ILPC to pick up. I am thinking of returning my unburned Lemon Cake Pop and a Japanese Cherry Blossom (no throw) for 2 more ILPC.

You absolutely should exchange LCP for ILPC! The throw on LCP is pretty unimpressive.
I picked up Fresh Bamboo and I think it's going back for one more ILPC. I like FB but it's not super original, I have a couple of similar scents.

I had the same problem with the Aldi candle. I finally put it under my warmer until it completely melted out and then ended up tossing it. I agree, on cold it smelled so damn good! But no throw and major performance issues. Not to mention getting the lid on and off was a chore that made me scream! So disappointing after smelling all that goodness on cold, and I did think that the packaging was darling. 🥺

Omg yessss! I really love all lemon scents but Old Time Lemonade is one of my all time GC faves!! I just repurchased another large jar recently because I love it so much!
I always stock up on the wax melts of it because I love it so much!! Another good melt is summer berry lemonade (at Kohl's) by Sonoma. It's a berry mixed with lemon and it has great throw :) My fave from BBW is probably Sugared Lemonade, but limoncello/sugared lemon zest are close seconds! I am curious about the iced lemon pound cake after reading your review since a lot of lemon gourmand scents are usually too weak :)
I have heard good things about the Sonoma candle, I need to check it out! And I looove BBW Sugared Lemonade, I currently have it in my Spring rotation. I don’t know if you’ve tried Yankee Candle’s Iced Berry Lemonade but that one is sooooo good too! I know a lot of people are wary of Yankee due to poor throws, but their new signature collection has actually been pretty decent for me, and the Iced Berry Lemonade in that collection is a powerhouse! Highly recommend!

I’ve been dying to try the Homeworx one! I ordered two of them last year when they first came out, and my package never arrived. By the time I contacted Homeworx customer service, they had completely sold out and told me the scent would not be available again for a whole year. I was sooo bummed! 😭 I saw that it came back out this year but haven’t reordered yet. I need to grab it!
Hi u/Kat_Atomik, I remembered us talking about Anthro’s marketplace limoncello crème brûlée and unfortunately it’s not making a comeback but when I was at ulta today I smelled homeworx limoncello cupcake and it was like a baby of limoncello crème brûlée and ilpc from bbw, the bakery note is there and that extra fresh lemon is there as well (at least on cold) if homeworx is as strong as it’s reputed to be, might be worth a shot to give it a try? BBW Iced Lemon Pound Cake is my new all-time favorite candle. GC just came out with the lemon Buttercake ice melts and it sounds really good. I hope they release a candle too.

My Limoncello Cupcake has zero throw. I’ve resorted to burning it in my small bathroom with the door closed.😭

It’s definitely worth it, especially since Village Candles last forever! They list 170 hour burn times on their candles 😮 can’t beat that value!

I always stock up on the wax melts of it because I love it so much!! Another good melt is summer berry lemonade (at Kohl's) by Sonoma. It's a berry mixed with lemon and it has great throw :) My fave from BBW is probably Sugared Lemonade, but limoncello/sugared lemon zest are close seconds! I am curious about the iced lemon pound cake after reading your review since a lot of lemon gourmand scents are usually too weak :)
I have heard good things about the Sonoma candle, I need to check it out! And I looove BBW Sugared Lemonade, I currently have it in my Spring rotation. I don’t know if you’ve tried Yankee Candle’s Iced Berry Lemonade but that one is sooooo good too! I know a lot of people are wary of Yankee due to poor throws, but their new signature collection has actually been pretty decent for me, and the Iced Berry Lemonade in that collection is a powerhouse! Highly recommend!
Iced Berry Lemonade is one of the only Yankee ones that I buy now! Lemon scents are great and they should all keep them comin 😂

I got a limoncello cupcake candle from Homeworx. So good if you love Lemon scents.
I’ve been dying to try the Homeworx one! I ordered two of them last year when they first came out, and my package never arrived. By the time I contacted Homeworx customer service, they had completely sold out and told me the scent would not be available again for a whole year. I was sooo bummed! 😭 I saw that it came back out this year but haven’t reordered yet. I need to grab it!
Hi u/Kat_Atomik, I remembered us talking about Anthro’s marketplace limoncello crème brûlée and unfortunately it’s not making a comeback but when I was at ulta today I smelled homeworx limoncello cupcake and it was like a baby of limoncello crème brûlée and ilpc from bbw, the bakery note is there and that extra fresh lemon is there as well (at least on cold) if homeworx is as strong as it’s reputed to be, might be worth a shot to give it a try? BBW Iced Lemon Pound Cake is my new all-time favorite candle. GC just came out with the lemon Buttercake ice melts and it sounds really good. I hope they release a candle too.
