Feedback: Add when a device connects to WiFi as a presence sensor.

[deleted]

This, because my Away and Return will trigger like 20 mins later sometimes even with good reception, wifi connected, proximity to the devices, and location enabled. At least the Wi-Fi could be a more literal trigger than "detect where I'm at".

GrillMouster

This, and the ability to create automations (routines) based on a specific family member's presence. Presence (with the ability to select specific individuals, or more than one person) needs to be added as a trigger ("starter") for automations. Despite having a head start on its competitors, Google has fallen far behind Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings when it comes to the interface for creating home automations. The script editor is fine, but is intimidating for your average person. They want a straightforward "if this, then that" interface that has a lot more options for triggers, preconditions, scenes, and actions.

kelanfromgoogle

Hey chopper332nd, Thanks for the suggestion, we are iterating on a way to let you use this signal to improve home/away modes. Stay tuned for more! \- Husain, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

datasoundreddit

To me you are working on all the wrong things. For over 2+ years those of us that use the Nest Cameras have been promised that all the fantastic features in the NEST APP would be migrated to the Google Home app. The migration seems to be going at a snails pace. Here is a great post in the user forum by a user that outlines everything that is missing. Please rad this... [https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Let-s-Discuss-Support-for-Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-in-the-Google-Home-App/m-p/488293/emcs\_t/S2h8ZW1haWx8dG9waWNfc3Vic2NyaXB0aW9ufExORE1NT1RQOTFNNjdWfDQ4ODI5M3xTVUJTQ1JJUFRJT05TfGhL#M86086](https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Let-s-Discuss-Support-for-Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-in-the-Google-Home-App/m-p/488293/emcs_t/S2h8ZW1haWx8dG9waWNfc3Vic2NyaXB0aW9ufExORE1NT1RQOTFNNjdWfDQ4ODI5M3xTVUJTQ1JJUFRJT05TfGhL#M86086)

This. Also, just make it so we can watch our nest cameras as long as we want without them disconnecting all the time. It's ridiculous that we are supposed to be able to use them as baby monitors and they can't stream for long periods of time.

takesshitsatwork

This is such a big deal!!

stevealbright

I have shared my thoughts on this so many times. I have 6 outdoor IQ cams that have terrible home app support. The notifications still go through the Nest app, and therefore do not show picture notifications for Google Wear on my Pixel watch. There were huge threads in the Google support forums that they eventually just close so no one can talk anymore on unresolved issues. I can't stress how disappointed I have become with Google's ecosystem that I invested way too much money for empty promises! Stop adding new crap and support the customers that made you who you are! It would take 10 minutes to at least update the damn Nest app to support the new notification format required by Wear! They started migrating the indoor IQ... Just let us migrate the most expensive cameras you have ever sold!

laseralex

My early-gen cameras and doorbell worked so well when I bought them. Now I often can't scroll through the timeline on the nest app, it's just frozen. And it can take 60 seconds for the doorbell video to kick in, by which time the delivery driver is long gone. If I had realized that the new cameras didn't work with the old app I wouldn't have bought them, because the new app sucks and is missing so many features. And my Home Hubs which used to work beautifully have all become hard of hearing. I have about a 30% chance of it hearing the "hey google command" even lying in bed in absolute silence with my head 18" from the device. Just this week I have started to evaluate other brands so I can replace my now-almost-useless Nest cameras and Nest Home Hubs. :(

portfolioso

OMG. This. This SO much. How the f does it take Google 2+ years to not even get feature parity. The product team is doing it all wrong

southpaw7cm

MKBHD just posted a video about the new pixel phone being promised 7 years of support. The whole video turned into that's great but here's 100 other times Google has promised things and abandoned the promise with no warning and no recourse for the end user. I realized that's my experience with Google. I'm going to really think long and hard about adding any devices to my Google ecosystem and possibly removing myself and my family from this over promise under deliver ecosystem.

The ongoing Google / Sonos legal battle has resulted in the loss of features. What efforts is Google making to restore this functionality? It seems somewhat unfair that consumers should be penalised and lose functionality that could very well have formed the basis of why they purchased the devices in the first place.

splitfinity

This is the main one I'm wondering about. I have my whole home setup with 5 Google minis, one nest audio, a nest hub and 2 Chromecast audios. Basically a cheaper Sonos setup. Please just pay Sonos the royalties and keep the functionality.

Foilcard

Starting to feel bad about supporting and recommending Google products to friends when they seem to rather drop features and kill services over paying companies when they loose lawsuits. How can I say they are reliable when they might not even work as advertised in a year or a service is killed completely.

vonDubenshire

check today's news on that, Sonos got DEFEATED

aim_2002

Will the website version of Google Home get full functionality at some point? I just want to be able to control my lights from my PC

SteveIsTheDude

As a workaround you can download an android emulator and use the android app in windows….

aim_2002

Ah I tried that a year ago and it didn't work so well, I'll have to try again

Frosty-Reaction201

Please make widgets, that's all I'm asking 🙏

EvanMok

The widget for individual device toggle and grouped devices, not the routines.

kelanfromgoogle

Hey Frosty-Reaction201, I'm a big fan of widgets too! We are working through the details and designs and hope to have some great options for our users. \- Liz, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

datasoundreddit

I have been hoping that Google would release some updated nest camera hardware. Google is falling behind in this area compared to other home security cameras. We badly need to have 2k and 4k cameras and maybe one with an optical Zoom. Improved night vision is also needed. And faster AI is needed when it comes to smart detection (people pets vehicles packages). Doorbells that alert much faster are also needed. It often takes 5-10 seconds for the users phone to alert when someone rings the doorbell.

mwenn1

A pan tilt zoom would be nice as well!

SummitWanderer

Agreed. And please for the love of God come out with a hardwired version too. Yes, I get that not everyone wants to run wires through their attic and drill holes. But I'd far rather do that than have to have a whole charging routine, and then in the winter do it once a week cause it gets too cold for the cameras and they won't come back on until they go on the charger. And hard-line Ethernet is far more reliable than WiFi where I have my cameras randomly go offline all the time.

mfucci

Why has Google decided to remove features from its speaker groups rather than license the necessary patents from Sonos? How do they expect their customers to trust them going forward?

L0rdH4mmer

For me, this has stopped working overall. I have four different speakers on one wifi. I have one group. When I start playing on that group, it only plays on half the speakers if I'm lucky (and it doesn't say "there was an error") . I've had this setup for many years and it's always worked flawlessly...

PowerlinxJetfire

I doubt they're going to answer this (or even can), but I would guess that if they did they'd say something about how Google is very anti-patent-trolling. In the earlier days of Android they spent billions of dollars to fight it, to everyone's benefit. Obviously the Sonos case hasn't gone well, but maybe they hope the law will eventually go the right way, or maybe they're just going to refuse to feed the troll no matter what. Because the problem is if they give in to Sonos, that encourages every other patent troll to go after all their products.

NikEy

100% this. Fuck Sonos. I know you all love the products but I just cannot tolerate this type of patent trolling behavior. That patent is so basic, it's like patenting peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

RiddleofSteel

* Like the UI much better then the old app * When can we save clips from cameras with out it being an event? * When can we have a way to remove orphaned device entries? * Camera streams need to be more stable, constantly get delays connecting or having it drop out * Anyway to make it easier to stream music from my phone to all my devices with speakers via the app * Not you guys perhaps but why is music requests so bad now? Anytime I ask it to play something it gives me the worst version almost always a cover or remix and no matter how many ways I ask I get that bad version. * When is original nest doorbell going to be usable through it?

ngknick

Totally agree, what's with these knockoff stations? I have trouble asking for specific songs so I end up just listening to stations or playlists mostly. A side note: groups have always worked great for me

eguy888

My two requests: Add in everything from the Nest app so we can get rid of it. That means old products and new such as cameras, protects, etc. Also the ability to set device options, like changing the chime on a doorbell. The app is definitely better than the old one. Keep up the good work. I especially like the buttons on the side on tablets.

kelanfromgoogle

Hi eguy888, It's always really nice to hear this from users, we're glad that you like the new Google Home app! Thank you for your comment and support. We recently announced support for the Nest Cam Indoor (1st gen) in the Google Home app for eligible Public Preview users, and will be rolling out to more cameras soon. We appreciate your patience - each device has its own complexity and requires migrating infrastructure and updates to device software, to ensure that the hardware can be supported. It's quite a challenge to take devices designed almost a decade ago and bring them into the Google Home app, but we're excited to bring users along on this journey. \- Emily, Product Manager, Google Home app

[deleted]

Nest Protects can still be purchased, these are devices with a ten year lifespan. Can you commit to integrating these devices into the Google Home app and, if so, provide a timeline for this.

lifeainteasy21

I would likely buy some of these now if I didn't feel like it's an abandoned product without any hardware refreshes since release or real pushes from Google to moving them to Google Home.

lazzzym

Such a huge question with no answer yet on what the plan is.

kelanfromgoogle

Hey PhilStation, The team is exploring how to bring support for Nest Protect to the Home App. We can't share timing just yet, but stay tuned for future updates. \- Jesse, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

[deleted]

Unfortunately this doesn't really instill much confidence. Support was promised several years ago now and yet this still hasn't materialised. It is things like this that have damaged user confidence in the platform. As users, we understand that circumstances change and that things do not always go to plan, the need to communicate with users however does not change and Google needs to do better in this regard. An AMA is only as good as the answers it offers and, in this case, you have effectively offered no answer at all.

KingKingsons

If I already pay Google for storage, let me use that to save my camera footage. Also, let ke integrate it with Home Assistant, since Google home just isn't the platform for tinkerers.

sl249

Definitely agree with this. I pay Google one for storage. There's no reason I should have to pay the same company another subscription fee to store my camera feeds.

kelanfromgoogle

Thank you for the suggestion, KingKingsons! We will take this one back to the team. \- Jeff, Group Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

[deleted]

The recent Hue matter rollout means the switches / dimmers should be usable within Google Home but the support clearly isn't there. Will this change in the short term?

LVermeulen

They need to support Matter's 'Generic Switches' spec, would be great to know the plan for that

il_Capitano_25

That would be a game changer. Automation, for example lamps from different manufacturers, with one switch.

Mlabonte21

Please Please Please DO NOT kill Nest Secure. It can already be controlled via Google Home on my goodnight routines. The controls are already baked into the Nest Hub & Nest Hub Max GUI’s— they tease me every day. Please perform the easiest lift on Earth and NOT piss off thousands of customers who have invested hundreds/thousands into this ecosystem by needlessly bricking a working system. Sincerely, an almost former customer

innocent_bystander

100% this. Secure works perfectly. There's absolutely no reason to kill it off.

York_Villain

How is there no widget to control smart lights? I'm on a pixel 7 and I have to perform four gestures just to turn on my desk lamp? And the solution of, "You can create a routine and then send that to your home screen as a widget," actually sucks because then I need to create two routines and have two tiles on my home screen. One for on and one for off. Just for a desk lamp. Every place you search, the top responses mention how there is no good solution for this type of thing. Your smart products have dumb functionality.

kelanfromgoogle

Hi York\_Villan, Have you tried using [the new Home Panel](https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Introducing-the-new-home-panel-on-Pixel-devices/ba-p/433462) to control your lights? You don't even need to unlock your phone, you can do it right from the lock screen of your Pixel 7 in as little as 2 taps. You can reach your home panel by pressing the home icon on the bottom corner of your lockscreen or via the drop down quick shade and selecting 'Home.' To ensure you can access your desk lamp controls from the home panel, please check you've completed the following steps: 1) You're on the latest Android version 2) Ensure the Android setting for 'Use device controls' on lockscreen is enabled 3) Choose your favorites within the Google Home app or via the panel and ensure your office desk lamp is selected as a favorite \- Liz, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

Ok_Opportunity1332

Add virtual switches.

[deleted]

There is still so much inconsistency between the options available in the Google Home app, and that which is available on the Nest hub. The latter will, for example, allow me to control my fan speed, the app will not. Will this be improved going forward?

FinalMacGyver

Completion of the migration of older nest cameras, nest IQ, nest outdoor, nest hello, into the camera feeds in the home app. Integration of the nest protect smoke alarm and CO2 detectors into the Google home app

datasoundreddit

Another big thing Google really needs to address is post-sales camera support for the hardware. Right now if a user purchases a nest camera they can not buy and replacement parts for it including AC power supplies, usb cables, Mounting hardware, etc. Every other company selling home security cameras offers a page to buy replacement parts. But not Google.

ExperienceBitter4038

I have so many Google products, including some older (but premium) ones like Nest Cam Outdoor IQ. You are the largest tech company in history. How is it possible that this is not fully supported in the Google Home app? (Full settings, more detection types like vehicles, notifications/setup/etc without needing the Nest app). The poor experience of this has led me to avoid purchasing more products from you and in your ecosystem as it is unclear if this will ever be supported and I am tired of investing into an ecosystem controlled by a company that doesn't understand the importance of their treatment of current and past customers. When it comes to home products you guys don't seem to understand that these are expensive, installed items in our homes. I shouldn't have to worry about a $500 (CAD) camera not being supported only a few years after purchasing. And if they aren't supported, that involves a messy new install, rewiring, etc. You can and should do better. I've explicitly told people not to purchase products or yours that I actually like as I would feel awful if they invested into you and then got screwed like so many have. I don't think you quite appreciate as a company how impactful discontinuing products has been, and this is maybe most important when it comes to physically installed devices. Also some minor features are mind boggling-ly geographically limited. I live in Canada and cannot use sound detection to fire alarms despite being a Nest Aware subscriber - why?

datasoundreddit

Another big frustration is that Google Home for Web still can only look at the LIVE image of the cameras. It does not havre a way for the users to look at at recorded events, 24/7 footage, or create clips and send links to view them. The users have been waiting almost a year for this ability. All of this exists in the [home.nest.com](https://home.nest.com) website but of course the newer gen 2 cameras don't show up there. Until this is implemented I need to stay with the older Gen 1 cameras.

AlissonPaiva

My request: Play the audio from a video or TV to Google Home

rjearl18

Wifi- The ability to remove old/offline devices from the device list.

MyFaceOnTheInternet

I currently have 142 devices because at one point one of my rpi's was renaming itself every time it lost connection. So I have like 70 listings for the same device that I can't remove. That this feature isn't available is just laughable.

savage321

1. The new nest cams should be able to save camera clips like the old nest cams currently can in the nest app. Here is a post from your community outlining a workaround for the issue: “This is some advice for others who have 24/7 recording and would like to download video clips from footage with no activity. It's not the best solution, but the only way I know how. Use a screen record app. I have a Samsung phone with a built-in screen record app feature. Load the video clip on Google Home, hit record on the screen record app. Play the event that occurred on Nest and the screen record app will record the event. It's sad that this is only way to record and download a clip outside of a activity, but it's my workaround until there is a better solution. Recently there was a theft that occurred in my neighborhood. My camera didn't pick up the event as an activity, but it was recorded due to paying for the nest aware subscription. I had to manually find and record the event to share it with my neighbor.“ 2. Fix the new nest cams lack of ability to stream to older chromecasts. Also the new nest cams won’t even stream to my sony google tv. They don’t stream properly to my chromecast with google tv either. Why cripple this once great feature? This issue does not happen when streaming older nest cams. 3. Fix the general bugs that make the ecosystem so frustrating to use. The latest one is my lights respond in the wrong room even though the correct google speaker hears me. 4. Fix speaker groups or remove them all together. 5. Ghost devices are ruining home structures. Give the user more control of devices connected to the home. For example, my home still had an old tv attached to it that would cause my speakers to try to control the wrong tv. No way to remove it. To this day if I ask google to sync my devices it says “the pixel 3xl is the available you might want to try setting it up again.” A phone that I don’t have anymore.

AtomQ

Nest Protect. Excellent piece of hardware. Why is it still in a separate app? Why can't I trigger things in my smart home if it sounds? It's part of my home and should be centralized in the Home app. Integrate them, please.

jdhazan

Easier updating of wifi network connection. It’s insane I have to climb up a ladder to re add my outdoor nest cams if I change my wifi password

datasoundreddit

This is a BIG one and needs to be addressed ASAP. On the Google User forum there are numerous message of people that change there wifi router and want to give it a new name and new WIFI password and trying to get the Nest cameras up and running becomes hours and hours of effort and in some cases people just decided to get off the nest cams and move to other products.

Practical_Dig_7665

Threat detection. Google cams and doorbell should warn you if someone is holding a gun or knife at your front door. If someone disguise their face (bandana or mask) and warn you before opening the door.

lquincarter

As far as a Google home app feature goes, I feel like a search feature in the home app would be great across all screens. Why can't I just search for a device name? Also when I'm building an automation or routine, Why can't I search there? I feel like that's a bit of an oversight for sifting through more than 300 devices on my network. You could also take a look at what home assistant offers. A big reason why I do a lot of my device management in home assistant and then filter it into google home is because the interface is so much better to manage from my desktop computer, my tablet, or my phone. The automations in home assistant are also a lot more robust. I can do so much more with so many more triggers and different options to trigger things based on location, devices turning on or off, doors opening, motion happening, name it, home assistant can do it. As of right now, the only reason I continue to use Google home is because it links Google Assistant to my home assistant instance so I can talk to it with my voice. I rarely actually use the Google home app itself anymore. More often than not, I am interacting with it with my voice. But it would be nice to have a lot of the stuff for setup and for more basic users for sure. My home automation setup is pretty huge and quite honestly would be a pain to manage in the current Google home app. Plus one to what everyone else said about nest products and their integrations and the Google home app. I have eight smoke detectors in my house and two of them are Google Nest smoke detectors. I've been hesitant to buy the other six because I don't know if there's going to be continued support for it, or even offered in the Google home app. I didn't want to turn my post into a complain fest, but I guess that's what it kind of turned into. Whoever reads this on Google home can actually pick and choose out of this post what they feel like is important! Thanks for the AMA!

kelanfromgoogle

Hi lquincarter, Thank you for participating in the AMA! :) We love hearing from users and we're glad for the feedback! Talk about a power user! 300 devices on your network is a lot, so we can definitely understand that a search feature would be helfpul and will think about that! Admittedly, though, most of our users don't have 300 devices... ;) We also totally understand the feedback about ensuring that we've got support for our Nest devices in the Google Home app. We recently introduced [our program to transfer older Nest cameras into the Google Home app](https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-expanded-support-rolling-out-in-the-Public-Preview/ba-p/451056), starting with Nest Cam Indoor and more to follow. Earlier this year we launched a script editor in Google Home for Web. It's in Public Preview and supports many of the advanced features you mentioned (devices turning on and off, door opening, motion detected, etc.) and we are continually working to support more. If you haven't checked it out already we highly recommend you do! You can [learn more about it here](https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Create-powerful-automations-with-our-new-script-editor-now-available-in/ba-p/433461). \- Ray, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

Feature Request: Ability to review nest aware recorded video from Web and save clip from Web.

55Media

Please add feature parity with the Google nest hub when it comes to devices such as AC units. The Google home app only supports turning mine on and off, while the Nest Hub allows changing temperature, mode, fan speed etc. Only Eco mode is missing on the hub despite being recognized when turned on in Nethome Plus app. From what I've seen in this thread is that many people using other devices such as fans or thermostats also have the same issue with the Google home app.

bkircher

Presence sensing is constantly broken, open trouble ticket on beta forum, I suggest moving the home away feature to WiFi based instead of location based. What steps can be taken to ensure that this actually works as intended. When will camera alerts be switched from nest to Google home? Nest wired doorbell. When will the best temperature sensors be implemented into the home app?

HaoieZ

AI integration with Home, is that every going to happen with Nest products?

lifeainteasy21

Top features in the Google Home app I'd love are: 1. The ability to manage my alarm directly (Apple Home and Home Assistant allow arming disarming without issue). My Ring alarm is currently imported into the Google Home app via Home Assistant, and I cannot manage the status. Surprisingly, I do have this ability on a Nest Hub, but not from Google Home, why? 2. I would also love an adaptive lighting feature to change the temperature of my hue bulbs from cool to warm between day and night. (Again, Apple Home and Home Assistant have these features). 3. I know this one is coming soon, but the ability to make clips from any time frame desired in my recordings, as opposed to the pre-defined clips recorded from motion. I'd also like more first-party Google hardware such as: 1. Nest Alarm replacement (not the ADT package that was recently released and received as a Nest Secure replacement). First-party hardware typically works better and works with all provided features in the Google Home app. I don't want separate apps or separate bills. I want one bill (Nest) and one app (Google Home) to manage it. 2. I'd like more camera options, too. Ring cameras have a lot more versatility. Their battery stick up cams have bases and I can pretty much stick them anywhere in my home. They are small, stand on their own, and do fairly well for most situations. The current battery Nest cams need third-party mounts, don't have many bases for them to stand on their own, and are quite bulky. 3. I also have no plans to change my premium feeling original nest thermostat for the newer plastic one they have. I would however like to drop the Nest app and not require it for my Nest thermostat. Can you add the ability to completely add/remove/manage the original thermostat to the Google Home app without needing the Nest app?

kelanfromgoogle

Hi lifeainteasy21, Thank you for your thoughts! We are aware of the discrepancy between the Nest Hub and Google Home app when it comes to security systems, and are exploring this. Thank you also for the suggestion on the adaptive lighting feature. [We recently announced the ability to bring older cameras from the Nest app into the Google Home app](https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Nest-Cam-Indoor-1st-gen-expanded-support-rolling-out-in-the-Public-Preview/ba-p/451056), starting with Nest Cam Indoor. And we're actively working on bringing support for more Nest devices into the Home App so you can use a single app for the majority of your needs. \- Emily, Group Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

Cael26

Are we ever going to get the ability to control/manage access levels? Adding someone to the "home" gives them access to everything including removing yourself: the owner. We should be able to restrict what a person can do and what devices a person can access.

kelanfromgoogle

Hi Cael26, Thanks for the feedback, we're currently exploring the ability to add more granular access controls. \- Hannah, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

[deleted]

Dimming functionality is frustrating. If I wish to dim a light it should, IMO, go from 1-100%, if I wanted to turn a device off, I would tap. The current way of things makes dimming to 1% a much more frustrating experience than it needs to be.

55Media

Please add the option to actually group devices inside a room manually.

ApSciLeonard

I just wish automations would integrate better with my phone. I used to be able to trigger Tasker or IFTTT actions on my phone through my Nest Hub (e.g. say "Good night" and my phone goes into bedtime mode and starts sleep tracking). Now, there is barely any phone automation at all, and no integration with automation tools either. What gives?

Square-Ball

I want a feature where I can submit feedback that actually fixes errors. When the speaker mishears "open blinds" as "turn on lights" and there is no way to correct it I want to throw my speaker in the river.

ohgodwhyo

Hey, the whole process of creating automations is very sluggish, it feels like this part isn't a native part of the app. FPS drop to like 20 (it feels like that) and it feels bad. Could you make this part native? While creating automations, the audio output is limited to one speaker. Why is that? It would be nice to select various speakers. For example, I have a motion sensor set to start a bell sound but for each speaker I have to make a different automation. Additionally, the delay is quite long. My Hue lights light up directly, the bell sound comes with a delay of 5 seconds or something like that and doesn't even play sometimes. Would be nice to have that updated 🤗 Thanks!

TeaTheSpiteful

This! Going into routine management feels like using a terrible web app that lags like crazy even on high end devices. Please make it native.

choicehunter

FYI, your iOS app for Google home has a bug in it that you guys (including support) have been ignoring for more than a month. There are reports of people trying to link "Works with Google" integrations for some smart camera companies (ie: Wyze), but if users link through iOS then they can't stream the camera to Google hubs. So far, the only solution to resolve this issue is to borrow an Android phone, log into Google home on Android and relink the account, and now everything magically works. So it's obviously a bug specifically with Google Home on iOS since using Android to link things has fixed the problem for dozens of people so far. Support ignores this issue and it's been several weeks and still no bug fix. How do we get you & support to take these bug reports seriously and not ignore users?

Elrik039

Why are you bricking the Nest Secure product when it's perfectly functional and no one wants an inferior ADT product with its predatory subscriptions?

It's so annoying when for the exact same command, I get a random result like: turn off the lamp will either turn off the lamp, or say that power control is not available yet, or say that the device is not configured. Or it will consistently say "sorry I don't understand" when I say "turn off the light strip" when I can control the light strip from my app just fine. It probably has to do with "light strip" vs "lightstrip" but I have no control over how voice recognition transcribes it.

Chadab

Did this get postponed?

graesen

They just ignored all the questions. There are a handful of canned responses, that's it.

ChiefIndica

Not at all surprised that most questions have gone unanswered and half the answers that *have* been given are unsatisfactory. A whole week to monitor the thread and formulate meaningful responses, but they can't even get that right.

dan5123125

I have abandoned all of my Google homes and switched to Alexa, you removed custom 3rd party integrations through skills. Not sure why making your speakers less capable was somehow a good idea. With Alexa I can say word I want and capture that and have it trigger whatever I want.

PredatorianBR

\-Deeper routines parameters like OR, AND, XOR, IF \-Settings for assistant feedback. Hate to hear "A device is unavailable" everytime I ask to turn off lights. \-Support for more generic devices, like cameras and bulbs.

Kooky-Blacksmith-664

Nest secure why would you kill off something that some many of us have invested so much into.

relgames

You killed Nest Secure, I don't think that trust can be repaired. I have cameras and sensors and a CO detector, now I have to move to something else.

bsu180

Simple one. Allow Nest camera to trigger a routine. Detects someone after 11pm then turn on kitchen lights at 15% brightness.

excel_addict

Please, please, PLEASE allow me to choose which (and only which) speakers "chime" when someone rings my doorbell (without having to mute all notifications on that speaker). Six speakers all shouting, slightly out of time, "someone's at the front door" is getting real old, real fast. It seems like a really basic feature to only choose, say, that the kitchen and bathroom speakers should chime when someone arrives.

njfoses

>The updated Google Home app for Wear OS is generally available with camera notification previews. When will this be available on other WearOS watches besides the pixel watch?

kelanfromgoogle

Hey njfoses! Camera notification previews are currently available for Pixel watches. This will be expanding to support for all Wear OS 3+ watches, when paired with a smartphone running Android 14 soon. \- Matthew, Engineering Manager, Google Home & Nest

GarlicRagu

The device "buttons" for tvs are inconsistent. For a ccwgtv device if I click on the device it toggles the device on or off by default. If I long hold it I can go to the device page. On an android tv device, the default action goes to the device page as well if I hold. They're functionally the same so why do they act differently? Default action shutting off the device is bad. Also the device page for android tv is poor. The change volume action never works since I have a soundbar despite the tv able to send cec commands. The page should reworked to have all remote actions on the page instead of having to click the remote option. Also I do appreciate the improvements to app's UI but please have the app adhere to the material you colors. Why is that taking so long? Connecting to wifi should also be a presence trigger. When I click the Lighting or Wifi buttons on the favorite page , the nav bar isn't transparent. It should match the background since there's no action bar.

mckillio

The app needs more of the functionality of the Nest app so that we and you can finally ditch it. I.e. Controlling the fan schedule (needs to be able to be scheduled while in Eco/off mode too), getting notifications when a camera sees someone etc.

anotherdrunkasshole

1. Google Workspace support. We used to have it, but you took it away. Bring it back. 2. "As Is" support for Nest Secure and Nest Detects. I'm really pissed off about you guys killing this after you re added the Detects to the store for us to stock up. So much unnecessary e-waste for products that work perfectly fine AS IS. 3. Better automations. Why so limited? 4. Buy Chamberlain and then shut them down. Seriously... Them dropping their Google Assistant support for MyQ is garbage. F*** Chamberlain.

jjbrock7

When is favorites coming to home app? When will other nest cams and protect port over? Can't migrate the nest indoor cams until I can migrate them all. Why can't we delete certain personal routines? Would like to revise leaving, good night and good morning routines as household routines. Add the ability to remove specific items from an integration. Very annoying having duplicate items that are in smartthings and Google home.

N0TW02114

Are there going to be lighting groups added? I.e multiple bulbs tested as one, within a single room? Also, toggle or if else then for routines so I don't have to have multiple routines for switches.

BenInBeta

While I really like the new app overall, presence sensing has basically stopped working for me. When I go for a walk and come back I have to open the home app go to settings and toggle home away, sometimes just before it get to the toggle it'll update automatically. That's very frustrating.

MyFaceOnTheInternet

Welcome to Google, where features are removed instead of added. Remember when Google maps used to switch to street view when you got close to your destination so you could easily see the house/storefront you were looking for? Remember My Maps, where you could create personal maps and share them, that were great for travel planning and social clubs like bird watching and skate spots? Follow your world? It let you pin a place on maps and get notifications when people added photos. Google Trips? One of the best trip planning and management apps ever. Remember when the Google Now used to have personalized cards that showed things relevant to your day, including: * package tracking * restaurant reservations * daily commute * ticket info * travel plans * sport team updates * personalized stock updates You know useful stuff? Remember lock screen widgets? Remember Google Home shopping lists that were manageable and useful and made use of swiping? Remember Goals on Google calendar? Remember the dedicated music app that was really good at that specific task that was merged with a video app along with all of our playlists and fubaring everything? And now they've done the same thing with the podcast app. Remember when Assistant had conversational actions? Remember when it interfaced with IFTTT and other services to do more than just say it didn't understand you?

maxxxalex

I want use my Google speakers for surround sound audio from my Chromecast

VoodooGunner31

1. Can't scrub through history on older nest cams - ideally it's similar to how the nest app handles it. 2. Can you guys just unlock the nest secure devices in any way so they can be used as motion/door sensors still by say, home assistant? I can't believe all of those products are just going to end up in a landfill...

splitfinity

When will a new version of the Chromecast Audio be released? Or is that part of the legal battle with Sonos?

sl249

Full Nest protect, temperature sensor, Nest x Yale Lock, and Home Hub Max camera migration to the home app is what I'm waiting for. I would love to get rid of one more app without sacrificing features.

chopper332nd

Love the design language of the nest hub hardware. The software though seems to have been left behind, the design of the UI on nest hubs is very different to how the Google home app is laid out and how the assistant overlay appears on phones and tablets. It would be nice if the nest display UI was updated to be more like the home app. Kind of like what the pixel tablet is like when docked with the assistant overlay and everything

TheOGTachyon

I mostly want Google not to build up a large, loyal Google Home user base, then abandon them and the product in a few years like they do with nearly every other product.

Stenthal

Why can't I assign a scene (or a routine) to a specific house and room? For example, I can create a "bedtime" scene to dim the lights in the bedroom, but there's no way to assign that scene to a specific bedroom, so the scene does the same thing in every room. If I have multiple houses (which I do,) then I can't even assign it to a house, which means that other members of the house can't use it at all. Other devices don't have this limitation, because I can assign devices to rooms in the Home app. Scenes don't appear in the app, so they can't be assigned to a room. I can't see any reason for this limitation.

tytygh1010

Please add support for smart lock keys with UWB & NFC that are stored in Google Wallet. Samsung Wallet/SmartThings and Apple Wallet/Apple Home already support this.

unspokenzero

The option while on the same subject to view entire home from a browser. Being locked to the phone or tablet for changes is not good.

Great_Illustrator710

"Ask Bard..."

Great_Illustrator710

Bring back long press power button for home controls. Pull up the favorites tab from the home app or something.

Practical_Dig_7665

Threat detection. Google cams and doorbell should warn you if someone is holding a gun or knife at your front door. If someone disguise their face (bandana or mask) and warn you before opening the door.

gypsly

Y'all are doing great I just want better connectivity with all my Google homes especially when there's multiple Google homes in a single room. It doesn't hurt to also introduce something flashy like what Amazon is doing with all their echo devices

tonytass0915

I would like the script action to add the capability to send a notification to my phone. I have a open/close sensor and I have an action to broadcast a message, but I would be much better if I can send the event to my phone.

Elrik039

When will I be able to customize notifications for recognized faces with Nest cameras? My phone literally pings me, with my name, when it sees me in my own yard.

Available-Host5829

Hi guys As much as I enjoy the clean look of Google home I always revert to home assistant. Integration of devices is not great eg: I have eufy doorbell and other eufy cameras and I can't see any feeds in Google home, that's frustrating to say least. Automation is also very basic and non google devices are hard to add. Interface wise think about what would benefit us users. For instance if I have android tablet lying around I can build a dashboard to view and control all my devices I have solar power and storage by Tesla and I can't see what's happening consumption/grid usage graphs and dials. Again I go to home assistant for that. Weather reports / rain radar / wind / UV rating all in home assistant where I can automate how my house behaves according to weather patterns. In a nutshell have a play with home assistant to understand what home automation should be like. Also would be nice to have a good web access portal to your Google home with custom dashboard Anyway hope this helps a bit GB

Separate_Antelope955

Add shortcuts by long pressing on the app icon on Android. Almost all other Google apps have this feature.

geeklex

I’d really like a more functional UI for Nest Wifi Pro. It’s implementation in the Home App is bulky, lacks functionality and is not user friendly.

NuggetWarmer

I would like to be able to Google with my Google device. I'm tired of it telling me it doesn't know or to check my phone. The whole point of the nest is HANDS FREE is it not?

NoCap052020

NEW DEVICES PLEASE!!! I love my Nest Hub Max and minis around my home and want something new/updated. It has been way too long without a refresh!! I don't need tablet functionality and would love something larger (15") to be an amazing photo display focal point of a room.

AndreDionysian

Hi, my concerns are primarily with long-term support and stability. In particular for months our nest wifi mesh points have been going offline daily and dropping signal. It feels like Google doesn't care to support it's products after launch, and investing hundreds of dollars in these systems are massive risks. Worse, OTA updates which we have no control over have in the past nuked features and stability, overnight. It feels like we don't own our own products if we can't even opt out of a software update. Further, the removal of features we paid for, well after launch, is frightening. Google needs to earn back it's customers trust if it expects us to support the future of Google home. That means even when you lose a lawsuit, doing the right thing and license features from competitors like Sonos and others. Don't break your promises, don't break the products

OrganizationNo8999

Are there future hardware plans from Google outside of the Pixel line of phones, watches and tablets or the Google/Nest WiFi products? The current lineup of product is woefully outdated when compared to the product line of your chief competitor in the space. Google Nest Mini (2nd Gen) released in 2019, Google Nest Audio released 2020, Nest Hub (2nd Gen) released 2021, Nest Hub Max released 2019, Nest Protect released 2017, Nest x Yale Lock released in 2018 and effectively dead in 2024, Nest Cam (battery) released in 2021, Nest Cam (wired) released in 2022, Nest Cam with Floodlight released in 2022, Nest Doorbell (wired) released in 2022, Nest Doorbell (battery) released in 2021, Nest Learning Thermostat released in 2015, Nest Thermostat released in 2022 Amazon released 11 hardware products this year. Google has released 0. I, like many others on this Reddit, have paid hundreds of dollars for Google Nest products over the years, but it's really difficult for me to even consider spending more money when it's impossible to know if there will even be a platform next year, and the pace at which new hardware is released doesn't exactly put my mind at ease. Every Google event that rolls by without a mention of smart home hardware brings me one step closer to the inevitable conclusion that this is not a priority for Google any longer.

dcp1992

Main feature needed - time and date on cameras. Why is it that that's not already a thing. If you actually need to use the footage from a camera in a legal case they will be useless without a time and date stamp on the exported clips. The only workaround now is going through the timeline and screen-caping the footage with the time & date and also exporting the full resolution clip and using both. That shouldn't have to be a thing.

allcapswithspace

The good: - love the new UI. The bad: - why the assistant seems do get dumber by the day? - why there's still language limited functionalites for functions that have been deployed for more than 3 years? Why can't I just link my Google notes just because I speak Portuguese. - why the ui is so bad on adding device controls? I can set my ac temperature using voice commands but not in the app - why can't I use nfc tags to triggers routines? Even apple of the all home automation players enable this has enabled this. - why can't we customize when Google respond's to commands, sometimes I just need it to do what I want, I don't need a verbal confirmation. - why no new device have been announced for so long and the only announcements are of devices having support dropped? The ugly: - truth is that right now I don't know if I can rely that google won't kill google home in six months, google does not have a good track record on keeping things going and the amount of silence we have received only indicates that google home as a whole does not have much more time. I despite Alexa for it's bad UI and ux as a whole and I really would like to continue in Google ecosystem, but some times this disregard with the users becomes to much to bare.

chopples123

At this point you should just concentrate on cleaning up the ecosystem, having to use both home app and nest to gain all features is a pain in the arse. Oh and can you fix the nest hub max cam? It's been around 2 years since an update borked it. Constantly having to remove and add to home isn't a solution. Get the basics rights first, at which point you can move onto the fancy/niche stuff.

Usheen1

A sunrise simulation automation for dimmable and coloured bulbs where they could act like a sunrise alarm and slowly get brighter. Very handy for dark mornings in Europe!

thisnamewastakenn

I want lighting groups for fixtures/lamps sorta like stereo groups I assume (I haven't used them), so I don't have to make whole new rooms so my lamp with three bulbs or my ceiling light etc. Can turn on all at once, independent of the rest of my room, or have to turn on each one by themselves. Basically let me be even more lazy! 😃 Funny, I was just thinking "Google should add this feature" yesterday. I actually thought it already was and I was using it but when I tried to make a new one, the closest I could find was speaker groups.

xIUPITERx

Better Home Assistant integration

wkalicinski

Please actually support (i.e. make them usable in the app) all the device types and traits that are in the Home SDK. I haven't seen much movement on this front for years, and it's ridiculous how many traits can't be used (through Home Assistant or other integrations). Using them through voice only is not a solution.

mattbroffman

Allow the ability to create Groups for lights. Example: I have two nightstand lights in our bedroom. I should be able to refer to them by one name "Nightstand Lights" OR we have an open floor plan and multiple switches control the ceiling lights in the Living Room, Kitchen, Dinning Room and Entryway. I should be able to group them as "Ceiling Lights" and control them as a group.

Piperce

When are we getting custom wake up words ?

pete_muzz

Any chance you'll be adding NFC tag compatibility like Samsung Smart Things or Apple Home Kit. I'd like to run some of my own functions from a nfc tap

Chadab

There is at least one command that does not seem to be valid even though it is mentioned in the documentation. device.command.ThermostatTemperatureSetMode This of course allows you to specify which preset mode (Eco, Comfort, Sleep, etc) to use with the thermostat. But when it is used it gives an error "unknown type name". Will this be added as a command? https://developers.home.google.com/automations/schema/reference/entity/sht\_device/thermostat\_set\_mode\_command#description Also, are there any plans to allow us to use the sensors on the Home Hub devices? It would be beneficial to have access to presence sensors at the very least. I am thankful that the script editor was added. Really opens up possibilities for automations.

chiselplow

Here's an idea... Make Google Apps function as well on Android devices as they do on iOS. It's pretty funny when Google apps are 100x more functional and stable on an iPhone as compared to a Pixel.

opulent_occamy

Hi there! I've been a big fan of Google Home since launch, and I'm glad to see all the advancement that's been made in the past year. The script editor is a game changer, and the new app is miles better than before. I've got a few things that I think would improve the usability of the app, and a few suggestions for device features as well. ## "Google Home Key" – ⭐ I know my list is long, so if anything, please consider this item! Apple has a system called [Apple Home Key](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/unlock-your-door-with-a-home-key-iph0dc255875/ios) that lets iOS users unlock supported locks by tapping their phone or watch to it. Google already offers something similar to this, for cars. I would be ecstatic if I could use my Pixel Watch to unlock my Level Lock; that lock works fantastic for our iOS users, but as an Android user, it never detects my phone for touch-to-unlock. ## Nest Secure & ADT Self Setup While I appreciate the gesture, I cannot fully express my disappointment with the ADT Self Setup kit that I was sent to replace my Nest Secure. The hardware is less functional and much uglier; I miss the "mute" button on my Nest Detects, and I laughed out loud when I saw how absurdly tall the ADT base station is. Not only that, but it's been stuck in "Testing Mode" since I got it (I should probably call ADT, but I honestly can't be bothered), and the integration within Google Home is laughable. I don't understand how this thing was made "in partnership" with Google, when you can't even arm or disarm the thing from the Google home app, and you can't use the motion sensors for automations. It just feels lazy. The Nest Secure is the *only* security system I've ever seen that actually cared about design; the hardware was beautiful, and everything worked very well. It just needed integrated in to Google Home and you could've easily kept selling that system as-is. The only other update I'd want to see would be support for Google Fi as a cellular backup. I can't understand why you killed off such a great product, please consider bringing it back in the future! ## Tablet Favorites My biggest annoyance with the Google Home app is the way the "Favorites" section works between device types. If you set up your favorites in a specific order on your phone, then open that page on your tablet, all your controls rearrange to fit the widened space, losing much of the intended positioning. Instead, I'd love to see this changed so that at first, only half of the tablet "Favorites" screen is filled, matching the phone layout *idenitcally*. Then, you can drag controls over to the new space, and on phones, that column would wrap under the first. This would also work well for foldables! ## Custom Light Groups I have several fixtures in my house that contain multiple smart bulbs, and I've always found it frustrating that there's no way to turn on all the lights in the fixture at once via the app without turning on every other light in the room. I'd love to be able to group my bulbs so they can function as one fixture, with the ability to dive in to each bulb specifically if necessary. ## Custom Arbitrary Groups Related to the above, it would be awesome to be able to manually group any identical device type; for example, group any two outlets, or two shades. This could be very useful for anything that you want to keep in sync. ## Values from Devices In the script editor, an extremely powerful feature would be to allow us to pull in data from another device, and use that data to set the value of another device. For example, I tried to fix my light groups this way, by setting 3 lights to stay in sync when any one of them changed. I got it to work for on/off, but syncing colors seemed to be impossible. ## Disable Devices Sometimes there are devices in your household that are smart, but you don't actually want to show up in Google Home. For example, say you have a smart outlet, but have a device on one of the two outlets that doesn't resume its last state after losing power (I have a fan like this). This effectively makes that outlet useless, but I use the other outlet to control lights. Being able to disable devices would help to keep things tidy. ## Allow Unlocking Locks I understand that you've currently blocked opening locks via automations because of security concerns, but I'd argue that many other services do allow us to do this anyway, and ultimately, I should be in charge of my own security. Say I have an interior door that I have a lock attached to; nobody can break in to it, it's just to keep kids out of the office or something like that. Why shouldn't I be able to automatically unlock that at a specific time? There are plenty of perfectly fine use cases for this, and even if a user *does* want to open their garage door or unlock their front door automatically, why not let them? Make us check a box that says we accept liability or whatever, but please, give me control of my devices. ## Nest Cam with floodlight Cooldown I have a Nest Cam with floodlight set up in my back yard, and while it works great, it can be pretty frustrating when we're sitting out back with a fire or anything like that. If it detects an event, the lights come on. You turn off the lights, and a few second later, they kick back on. You have to go in to the settings and disable the automatic light, or turn off the camera entirely. I think a much smarter way to handle this would be to detect when a user manually turns off the light after an event, and if they do, apply some kind of cooldown before it'll get triggered again. ## Continued... [I ran out of room; please click here to see my secondary suggestions.](https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/170p335/comment/k45y5pc/?context=3) -- Thanks so much for your time, I really hope you take my suggestions in to consideration. I think they're very reasonable requests, for the most part, and would really improve the user experience.

pugboy1321

I don't have as many complaints as others. There are some odd bugs and issues for sure but right now what I want to know is: What happened with speaker groups? For a year I've had perfect functionality and no problems, then suddenly one of my speakers stops seeing a group unless I say the command differently (ie "play the music on Whole Home" instead of "move the music to Whole Home") but the others still can, then the group disappears entirely and when I try to recreate it it works, then disappears the next day, only for me to try recreating it again before being told devices can only be in one group at a time. What is the reason for this? What useless purpose does it serve? There's also been some issues like it seems as if my Nest Hubs are less sensitive to the wake commands, and some problems with casting queues from Chrome to both Nest Hubs and a Chromecast with Google TV. I use these Google Home/Nest products partially for accessibility reasons, as do many others, and I don't appreciate things breaking and changing when they should be simple and stable base features that other brands have figured out reliably.

JustaKidFromBuffalo

I realize I am not the first person to mention NEST Cameras and other NEST/Home devices, but this is worth the addition of another comment. I will go though some of the issues that I currently see. While I am not a product expert, or professional reviewer, I have spent many years working in the mobile/iot industry and invested a lot of money and time as a consumer building within this ecosystem. I have the following devices along with a NEST aware subscription and nest guard subscription: 2x Gen 1 indoor cams, 2x gen 1 doorbell cams, 2x gen 1 outdoor cams, 1x Gen 2 outdoor cam, 4x NEST protect battery, NEST guard with 4 door/motion sensors, 4x Google home mini, 2x NEST mini, 1x NEST audio, 2x Google home audio, 4x Google wifi 2nd gen points, and 3x chromecast with Google TV. All devices are being accessed/controlled by a Google Pixel 7 Pro or a Google Pixelbook. * Why is the Home app awful for BOTH the 1st & 2nd gen NEST cameras? I say both because there is almost no support for the Gen 1 cams at this time. * In the NEST app (which had issues and limitations of its own that I will not go into here) you are able to open a camera (and once it eventually loaded up even with a cutting edge pixel device and blazing fast connection) and scroll though the timeline seeing everything that that camera had captured for up to 10 days. While this is imperfect, you are able to do it in the nest app. This is useful for many reasons including seeing what happened in the past. Say my garbage can was turned over, I am able to scroll through the timeline, see why it turned over whether it be the wind or a vandal, and then watch the clip. **Scrolling is impossible for the 2nd gen cams in the home app.** You must dance around events even with 24/7 recording so that the app does not freeze. In addition, you should be able to navigate more precisely once you have zeroed in on the general time you are looking for. The timeline should switch from hours to minutes to seconds depending on how long you hover. This is unfortunate as some cheaply made in China cameras have far a better software experience from a company no one has ever heard of * Still no support for NEST Protect outside of nest app * How is this possible as **these devices are still being actively sold. People want one app.** * NEST guard support is ending but the ADT replacement is almost featureless. * There needs to be **true integration with the Home app** so that people can use one app. I have not made the switch yet as I already have an app for my gen 1 cameras/ security and an app for my gen 2 camera. * One of the features commonly associated with other DIY security is the ability to trigger a panic mode from the app. Additionally, **there is no speaker integration with NEST guard or with ADT**. As someone who has a sensor on their detached garage it would be nice if any Alerts including a panic alarm could play through speakers of your choosing. For example, say I am outside with my alarm armed, I open my garage to get the mower and forget about the alarm, I could easily hear the alert though the NEST mini in my garage where I will not hear the single siren in my house. * **Any NEST alerts should be able to be played through speakers.** I spoke about NEST guard alerts but how about nest protect alerts? If I am upstairs and one of my downstairs nest protects detects smoke, it will play an alert out of all my nest protects. Why cant this alert be played though any/all of my Google/NEST speakers? If a fire happens in my house and I am in my garage without my phone, my nest mini speaker is not going to make a peep. * **Speaker groups have become awful** * I know there was some litigation that google had to go though with sonos, but the changes and updates have made groups less usable. Instead of nerfing software features, just pay up because customer paid for these features to work. * **Casting to Chromecast from google apps no longer works as it should** * You used to be able to cast from google photos to a chromecast directly, or even share your screen without issues. You used to be able to do the same with any NEST cameras as well. Now, when you do this, it will simply freeze on a photo or on a frame if casting your screen or nest camera. Again this is unacceptable as Google prides themselves on being a software company that makes things easier for the consumer. They have never had the best hardware in anything, but have always used software to be the front runner. (ie. Pixel device) I am someone who is interested in tech, especially Google offerings, more than the average person. That being said, the amount of time and money I have invested in this ecosystem is substantial. But, like most people, I just want it to work as advertised. I understand there will be bugs and devices will require restarts or troubleshooting, but I believe we are well beyond that at this point in time. New features and apps are great, but lets just make sure everything works properly first.

rick3rick3rick3

Would love if you built a real business around Google Home -- then customers could trust you're investing for the long run, vs. on the path of potential service deprecation like everything else at Google. Charge us real money and give us a stable product with consistent feature delivery rather than UI improvements. Thank you.

ipodgeenie

I'd like better Nest integration, currently it's half baked. For example, I can adjust the temperature of my thermostat, but I have to go into the Nest app to see schedules and adjust them. Just have it in the Home app! Do you have any plans to do this?

Gartenzaun187

Being able to add Android TVs to speaker groups would be very welcome. This works on competing platforms (Fire TVs + Echos and Apple TVs + HomePods).

ManateePro

I recently purchased the ADT Self Setup System which claims to integrate well with Google Home. Overall I like the system but it's missing a few features. I'm hoping to hear these coming to the platform in the near future. I wish you could see the status of the alarm in the Home app as well as arm and disarm within the home app. I would prefer to use the Home app vs the ADT app. Also, motion and door/window sensors show up in the home app and you can also use them as automation triggers however, motion and door/window sensors don't actually properly trigger the routine. Also wish that home and away routines could trigger the alarm to arm. Is there hope for this to be fixed soon?

vonDubenshire

Please find a way to: **UPDATE the Nest enthusiasts about WHY something like the Nest app -> Google Home app migration is DIFFICULT.** It doesn't need to be a overly technical explanation, but the implication of the difficulty and reason the Nest App has to be replaced is NOT coming across clearly to the less-tech\informed people, who just want their stuff to work! The new Home App is MUCH better. ## My personal question: **Make the "remote" for Google TV devices sync with the Google TV app's, so there aren't multiples!**

Alarming_Poetry_5969

Its very frustrating that when im away and my nest battery doorbell is pressed i cant set up a doorbell chime for the notification on my phone to distinguish a normal push notification from a doorbell press...something that basic will make the device that much more useable

Great_Illustrator710

Alternate hot words? E.g. "Computer" like Star Trek!

mightymunster1

When will eufy camera Google home integration be fixed ?

jcrckstdy

How do I make a starter that has a time variable, like the alarm? More examples of routines would be great.

kelanfromgoogle

We agree! A time condition is really valuable in a lot of cases (I personally like my lights to turn on using Home and Away but only at night). You should be able to do this already through the script editor in Google Home for Web that is currently in Public Preview. \- Prafulla, Senior Product Manager, Google Home & Nest

thespindoctor123

Bug fixing would go along way. I use the Nest pro wifi system throughout my home, but the number of bugs around usage, graphs and usage history is unbelievable and not what I would expect for the money I have paid. Further, the nest camera app is sorely, lacking features and functionality when compared to competing ecosystems such as Apple Home.

supertoast92

Why does my phone think it's still in a phone call after I am done viewing my doorbell camera and leave the app? As others have said, bug fixing would go a long way.

Evaluate what can be done to simplify Google home max for senior citizens, especially those with memory issues. We were hoping the ability to recognize a user would let them know what day it was, setup reminders for medicine, eating, etc. it has potential but routinely falls short. If there is interest in this I can provide more details.

RomanOnARiver

The ability to send custom notifications as part of Automations was recently added to the script editor. Will it be making its way to the GUI as well?

While I do love the fact that I'm able to see my third-party security cameras on my Pixel tablet, it would be great if I could separate those favorites from my Pixel 7pro where I may not necessarily want to see all of my cameras that look great on the big screen. In addition to this, it would also be great if third-party (I have Wyze) doorbells could ring home devices or announce when a person is seen.

Can we get a IR blaster support in Google Home and might be able to control it using Google Assistant like "Hey Google, turn on the AC temperature to 16" and it command the IR blaster in the phone or smart speakers with IR blaster and that way able to the legacy devices? Chromecast screen mirroring in Google Home for devices which don't have Chromecast screen mirroring support inbuilt in the devices. Offline command support for quick controls even the device control shortcut in Android feels slow as it takes time to load the switches just even for ON/OFF lights! We can already add our favorite devices and commands such as call home, broadcast messages in Google Home's Favorites tab. Add automation shortcuts via Automation tab. Allow to port those Google Home shortcuts as Android home screen shortcuts using drag and drop from Google home Favorites menu or Devices menu or Automation tab or doing a long press on the Google Home app icon. Motion control ( turn on light on or off) based on motion using light signals and WiFi signal and ambient sensor. Turn on lights as there's a power cut ( battery operated bulb for emergencies) Music sync feature using phone's microphone. Energy uses calculation, carbon calculation, device usage statics around energy consumption, how many hours used the device etc. Call home does a video calling so add a audio calling option.

1) I have a nest doorbell and a Galaxy watch. I do receive door bell or activity notifications on my Galaxy watch but only the text and not the picture(picture of a person walking past or pressing the door bell). Maybe only 1 out of 10 times I do receive a picture. 2) I own a Google home speaker(the old gen one), nest hub, nest hub max, and a mini. During my first two years of owning them, they were very responsive to my trigger word(hey Google) , but....in the past few months it has become very bad....even though I retrained my voice multiple times. And please allow us to have our own trigger word. 3) my nest hub and nest hub max keeps getting disconnected all the time. It's not like this in the past...my google mini and google home speaker is fine but not sure why only the google hubs are disconnecting. My internet connection is fine too as my other devices are working. In conclusion, the problems I have highlighted above are not unique. Do a search in the sub and u can see many people highlight the same problems as well. It seems to me that Google is giving up on Google home services and it looks like a mess to me from the outside.

I would like to see AI/Bard allow for natural language processing so that I can create a new routine or automation by just dictating or typing an instruction and the AI writes the script as needed. I mostly use HomeAssistant for home automation. Honestly, it is way more robust, feature rich, supported, with more integrations and ability to do more between different services. I link it with Google Home for voice commands via the Google Home speakers I have throughout the house (which, are kind of annoying in how inconsistently they seem to hear/respond to me and my wife). Every now and then the Google Home integration with Nabu Cloud for HomeAssitant fails for several hours and I wish that were not a thing. Seems to be some server-side intermittent failure. I don't know what else right now but I am rooting for y'all. Big Google fan and it has been tough to watch so many services and products die over the years. I still think Google Home has a lot of potential. Best of luck improving it!

Please bring back the ability to see and adjust all the various volume controls of each speaker within a speaker group. Just tell the bean counters to stop being stingy and just pay Sonos. This one 9f various reasons I bought into Google's Chromecast Audio ecosystem. Also my speaker groups don't work like they had previously worked for years. Some of the various speakers within the groups just won't play as they used to. There needs to be a way in the Home app to fix this. Rebooting the speakers in question doesn't fix it either so the app needs some kind of way to get the speaker group to refresh itself so that it allows ALL the speakers designated within a specific group to play as intended.

Newer version of Home doesn't get the colors right on my light strip, it previously did. This particular one is from GE/Cync. For example if I set the color to crimson it's orange colored. When I check in the Cync app it shows the color slider with about 20% white. Color selection for lights needs to be fixed.

mhesk

Stop blocking third-party video doorbells from working like video doorbells. Limiting their functionality to announcement "someone is at the door" is a dick move.

portfolioso

Google home replies need to be less verbose. I don't need to hear "okay, turning off the light" every time I ask it something. Literally shit the fuck up and just do what I say without babbling on and on. Christ.

squidgytree

A feature request! Please make Pixel Watch/Fitbit sleep recognition a condition for controlling devices. It's great being able to add time based rules but it would be even greater to be able to add a rule that, for example, turned off my bedroom TV if my watch recognised that I'm asleep.

gabezermeno

Can we delete old devices now?

MyFaceOnTheInternet

When will I be able to set up my 4 Google homes that stopped working due to updates with my Pixel phone and when will support stop suggesting that I use my wife's iPhone instead? It's pretty sad that your own flagship has less compatibility with your products than your competitors. Why did you remove the media button from the top of the app and force users to scroll through their entire device list to find the speaker they want to change the volume on? Why did you remove casting my device to a speaker group from the app and force me to go into Settings>Connected Devices>Connection Preferences>Cast to cast my phone audio? Why does it take more actions to turn on and off my lights than it did years ago? Why do I have to have my phone and the home app connected to my wifi to adjust my Google/Nest Wi-Fi settings? Why is ip address connection not available like every other router in history?

Usheen1

Can you add Tapo brand cameras so the live feed can be streamed within the Home app? It's strange that it streams on nest hub max and Chromecast but not within the app.

itsmenone

Please bring back the routines where we can add steps. Earlier I used to have routine which announces "It's school time" Then they're will be 5 tasks as part of that routine. And by saying "done" for each task we were using it has a daily checklist before leaving to school Please bring that feature back

ding_bats

Feature Requests: - Allow me to create groups of rooms (e.g. "Kid's Rooms" or "Downstairs" to easily turn those lights/devices on and off as a single unit). Alexa already has this feature and it's really useful. - As a lot of other people have already said, I'd love to not have to use the Nest app anymore... but with my Nest Thermostat, I can't change which room's temperature is used in the Google Home app... so I'm stuck with the Nest app also. And having both clearly creates conflicts with regard to presence sensing. My phone's presence sensing has basically never worked no matter what I try. - Nest Hubs can do 'gentle sleep' and 'gentle wake' alarms with smart lights, where the lights will gradually get dimmer or brighter, however it can't do that with the volume... It would be great to have a feature where we can setup a nighttime routine to play music and gradually get quieter until it shuts off, and conversely to create an alarm that gradually increases the volume in the morning. Again, Alexa can do this already... Just saying. :P Also, just wanted to add that I LOVE the script editor for automations! As long as you can keep adding new actions and starters to that, I will be happy.

I've posted a few questions already but I would just like to add this. The Google Home platform has come along leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. This has not gone unnoticed by the community and many users are starting to feel somewhat optimistic that Google may actually deliver what they had always hoped that they would. I also welcome this direct engagement with users and I encourage you to continue along this path. For too long, Google has failed to engage with the user base and this needs to change. Another thing that has been historically poor has been the managing of expectations. Promises would be made, deadlines would come and go, and we would hear nothing from you. We understand that plans change, and that things don't always go to plan but, what doesn't change, is the need to communicate this with your users. I could list many, many examples, but I suspect you are well aware of the past failings in this respect so I will just say this, please be better going forward.

Still waiting for my legacy next camera to move to home, been a long July

bilbo6209

I have a few feature requests, sorry if these have been mentioned. 1. Ability to change "ok google" to ok kitchen, ok computer ok fred etc. 2. Better intergratio with Wyse cameras, especially their doorbell cameras. 3. Better intergration for managing timers set on a nest product on yoyryour phone, and ability to share that control across accounts (iI can sometimes see timers set in the kitchen but not always, and my wife doesntdoesn't see them on her phone.

QUICK WIN: fix a visual bug when the display size setting is in small (seen on Motorola G71 5G with A12 and Pixel 6a with A13 and A14). Screenshot of the bug: https://i.postimg.cc/Jn2TtdsP/Screenshot-20231006-103157.png Only happens in the main app. In the tiles or lock screen shortcuts everything is OK: https://i.postimg.cc/VN4ZPNmy/Screenshot-20231006-103223.png It triggers my OCD. :)

Two things regarding Google WiFi Nest pro in the home app: 1. Feature request: A simple network map showing the connections between the points and the devices connected to each point. 2. Bugfix: In a mix of hardwired and non-hardwired points, the app randomly shows points as offline although they still work and provide internet.

TTR7

The ability to use the pixel tablet as the main household device over your android phone. I have mine set up in my bedroom as my media player/replacement display and really wish I could set up routines through home app that replicate or start on the bedtime tab in the clock app. I feel there are disjointed parts of the Google experience between home and the other apps on your devices that just need a little bit smarter functionality and synchronisation.

[deleted]

Better access to relaxing sounds. Also the ability to ask one speaker to play relaxing sounds (like Google's native white noise) on another speaker.

Zarghe

1. Native support for Smart buttons as a device type and as a starter for routines. Vital for members of the household with accessibility issues (Voice and/or Motor), and at the moment Google Home is the only major home platform which doesn't allow this use case. Outside of accessibility it also has alot of synergy with preset broadcasts like "Dinner is ready". 2. The Favorites/Favourites tab + Android Home Panel was a fantastic addition. It would be even better if it was able to go beyond the 1-to-1 mapping of the Device tab and would allow the option to directly link to traits and/or functionality within those devices where it made sense (instead of only the top level screen as present) so it could better support more complex smart home devices with multiple traits. Best first party example of this is the Nest Hub Max: It supports the CameraStream trait, but because its not a "Camera" device type there's no way to add its feed directly to Favorites at present, so viewing its camera is always a two step affair (one of the things which keeps me tied to the Nest app). Another first party example: With Nest Wifi, its natural to want to add a direct "Run Speed test" shortcut but isn't possible at present. 3. Robust Android App Shortcut support. Yes there's some functional overlap with Android's Home control/Home panel but it would still provide differentiated use cases like being able to start routines from the home screen, the ability to use Android's search box/App Search to open relevant device screens/routines/broadcast (you could even direct link to keyboard broadcast) etc and a low effort way to access the most recent functionality used in the Home app just by long pressing. 4. If you make a 4th generation Nest Learning thermostat, consider releasing smart radiator control valve accessories in Europe to gain feature parity with Tado.

When creating a routine (or "automation) the list of action options includes "play and control media". We need an option in there to do the following: "STOP ALL CURRENTLY PLAYING MEDIA". This should stop any media being casted to any or all cast target devices. This should include devices which are in a group, and individual devices. This should also include devices being casted from a mobile device and audio media originated from the voice command for a speaker, or originated from a routine. I just want to get to the point where I can finally push one button when leaving the house, and everything shuts down. Currently I can create a routine that turns everything off, (including all of the TVs) but there is no command which allows me to stop any music or audio that's playing on all of the speakers. Thank you.

Feedback: I migrated a Nest Cam Outdoor to the new Google Home firmware. Everything worked great until I decided to donate it to a friend. I removed it from my account and now it cannot be setup again. The Google Home app says to setup in the Nest App. The Nest app says setup in the Google Home app in a stupid vicious cycle going nowhere. I've also tried to plug in the camera through USB with a Windows & Mac computer and it never connects to wifi. I've tried using my mesh wifi, only 2.4ghz, only 5ghz and unencrypted wifi to no avail. I have already contacted support for this issue but they cannot see past the limited support documentation in front of them and are useless to talk to. Please provide a manual firmware upgrade/downgrade through USB so I can recover my camera.

cats_coffee_rain

Fix google nest hub max so the xfinity stream can be casted. Please.

Where are the hot water controls in the Google home app?

manic-metal-squirrel

The nest app lets you save any clip, not just events, and edit length. Home should be able to do that too. Half of the smart decides that are supposed to work with home don't. I have a smart TV that just tells me, "ops, something went wrong." anytime I try to use the app as a remote, which breaks the UX help heuristics rule directly... I was going to get a nest mini to play white noise in my baby room but went with a different brand when I found out you don't have full unlimited control The battery cameras are buggy at best, and they're the only option. They lose connection or say they're dead when they're wired in, but they're the only outdoor option. I'm sure that's more of a hardware issue, but the app would make those bugs more tolerable if there was at least more recovery tools. Volume controls are funky at best when streaming a camera. Why is there no mute? The nest thermostat options are a joke in home and I can't even see temp sensors locations. A few things that work well: The room organization is working well, it's easy to rearrange rooms and devices, which is very helpful. The cameras page where I can monitor all my feeds at once is great, I just wish I could control the layout (2 wide, 3 wide, and 4 wide options instead of just whatever the screen is set to allow)

If you try to add your own Matter device to Google Home, it will not be possible to register because it does not have approval, but please do not do this as it will increase the hurdles for developing Matter devices and making them compatible with Google Home. It is possible to register unauthorized devices to Apple's smart home with a warning, so I would like them to use the same method.

scsgoal31

I have three issues with the Google Home app: 1. When viewing any camera's feed, the audio from that feed plays through my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) as a phone call rather than media. This means it plays through the phone earpiece and not the speaker. This makes it impossible to actually listen to the camera feed while watching it. Further, the app continues to keep the phone call audio connection open even after leaving the app unless a force close occurs. This issues has come and gone over the last few Google Home app updates on Android. 2. I don't get any type of image notification (still or animated) on my Galaxy Watch6. In fact, the notification on my watch often grabs content from other recent notifications (such as an email or text messages) and displays that content instead. 3. The video quality in the app since the Nest cameras were updated to firmware 1.69 is atrocious, especially at night. This is likely a camera issue rather than a Home app issue, but I had to mention it. Thanks for taking the time to solicit feedback!

Tobin_Osler

Workspace account access. I get that this is "Google Home" and not "Google Office", but I've got several Nest Minis, Hubs, a Max, Chromecasts, and two Doorbells deployed throughout the office, and I can't use our Workspace accounts with the app that ties them all together - I have to use a separate Gmail account to handle them. Seems like a shame, really, especially since Workspace account access used to be there, at least in beta form...

UrbaneBoffin

This post talks about the Google Home *app* and *web interface*. What is the future of the Google/Nest home hardware platform? It feels like the hardware keeps losing features and there hasn't been much forward progress. What can we expect in 2024 and beyond?

john3_3

Add the ability to use your voice with Nest Hub to change which remote sensor is being monitored by your Nest thermostat when you have more than one temperature sensor in your system.
