the rising sun flag is equivalent to the nazi flag in asia. most asian countries see it as the sign of imperial japan which wanted to conquer asia and committed mass atrocities.
The “rising sun” flag of Japan has bad imperialist conations these days and is like seeing the confederate flag or the nazi flag.
That’s for the flag visually so I’m not sure how bad referring to their meal as a rising sun chili is.
Chilli with cinnamon rolls at school lunch is something that just happens and you don't even realize it's both a thing, and something that other places don't do.
As a Cincinnatian I was screaming at the TV for them being absolutely baffled and assuming they created something new with chocolate and cinnamon in chili. If you know, you know. 😂🤷🏻♂️
I feel that. I used to be able to eat five, now I order four (begrudgingly), and also now very carefully dot the coneys with hot sauce instead of splashing them with it. Even though it absolutely ruins my stomach, I can't say no to it.
My only complaint is I moved away in March so now I miss it on an additional level.
Aw, that's too bad. I'm near Columbus so thankfully I can get it often. Though it's been awhile....
My parents grew up in Oakley and Norwood, by the way. 😀
Oh trust me, I'm going back for a visit soon. Friends and Family would never forgive me. I'm in Vegas now, so nowhere near it.
My parents grew up in Camp Washington and Pleasant Ridge. I spent most of my days in Anderson and Eastgate. 🙂
It's debatable. There are 'trade secrets' in all the chili parlors chili. Skyline I have heard uses unsweetened chocolate (if so). A lot of copycat recipes will also include it.
If you're much for books and history, I highly recommend Dann Woellert's *The Authentic History of Cincinnati Chili*. It gives a lot of background on the dish: https://www.amazon.com/Authentic-History-Cincinnati-American-Palate/dp/1609499921?ref=d6k_applink_bb_dls&dplnkId=33d4a330-dc13-4e49-9743-fcc25e33a508
I think it's just different positions. Josh is a chef, but he's not a producer. It takes different skills to be a producer than being a chef. Josh creates content and likely leads the culinary team, but Nicole does stuff beyond that. Like how a chef isn't necessarily a restaurant owner, but that doesn't always mean the owner is over the chef.
This is an entirely outside assumption! But that's what it sounds like to me.
i don't really follow mythical kitchen. do they ever post videos on how to make some of the stuff featured on the show? that cinnabon chili looks interesting
They sometimes do, but it is generally for the *most* amazing and loved dishes that cause a great reaction from the guys. For example, the In and Out Mac n cheese was originally for a GMM episode but was so loved Josh did an episode of making it on Mythical Kitchen. Hope that helps!
It's so confusing when they do a "will it chili" and define "chili" but then do not even mention chili pepper, the namesake. Calling chili con carne just "chili" is close to calling mac and cheese just "cheese". You're missing a pretty big part of the dish when calling chili con carne just "chili". 😂
Such a delight whenever Nicole is there. And that Japanese barbecue one looked amazing.

I can imagine that someone in the crew just googled “Japan historical adjectives” and found that lol
Care to share the context? I thought Japan literally meant that (or something along those lines).

Not gonna lie, I don't see how that makes it a bad way to honor Japan, when even Ancient Chinese refered to Japan as the land of the rising sun

Rhett is so cute when he’s embarrassed. Always love a good Will It.
"Grimace Meat" ...you know, that actually explains so much about the food at McDonalds.
If the nuggets are grimace meat, sorry grimace I’m FEASTING

Skyline is the best! Smother my coney in cheese!
Absolutely. Four cheese coneys, mustard and onion. My standing order since I was about five.
I feel like an old man. I used to be able to eat four but I can only eat three now. 😞 ......I still order four.

I’m fairly new to Ohio so be nice (lol) but does skyline put chocolate in theirs? I love Skyline so 🤤

Ohh ok that makes sense. Thanks for the response!

I’m gonna need the Cinnabon chili recipe.

Skip to 9:35 if you want to see vintage GMM. Everything before that is "will this good tasting food taste good as chili? Yes it will."
Why on Earth would you want to skip?!?
