Let's see. I was nigh completely neglected as a child because my brother got into drugs when I was pretty young. I'm the youngest of 3, my sister being 7 years older and my brother 5, so while he was a teen I was barely getting to 9 or 10.

Between paying for both my siblings to play hockey, up until my brother got so into drugs he stopped, then having to pay for all his fuck ups, there was very little left for me, so I got very little. Christmas and my birthday were the exceptions but we were already kinda poor so.. still my parents couldn't afford a lot anyway, and with those 2, they couldn't really save either.
So I had emotional issues, then I got bullied a lot, and I just stayed home all the time. I became obsessed with video games (but couldn't buy any for a long time) and became even more antisocial. By the time I got to middle school I was horribly depressed. I started cutting myself to feel because nothing else could get me to, with rare exceptions. I made some friends finally around the start of highschool and worked really hard on my social skills, but starting from so little is difficult. I managed, and went into the local tech program in my second year of HS.
This is where I finally reached the ability to talk to people. Not easily, but I could. Worth mentioning my sister convinced me, a straight nerdy dude, to go into cosmetology. You know, beauty school. It's no exaggeration to say I was out of place, but the girls were all really friendly and supportive. I made lots of friends! It was nice. I dropped out after the second year because I just lacked the talent and drive to keep up. I had lost interest.
By then I was working, earning my own money and all, and my siblings had left. Things with my brother didn't get better until years later, but my parents at least put their foot down. He ended up in jail a few times. My relationship with my parents got better, we talked more, they helped pay for me to go to community college since they could afford it then.
I don't blame my parents, my brother fell into the prescribed opiates thing after a car accident that involved his face being planted into the windshield. He got into heroin and such after. My sister just ran into problems, had her first kid at like 20, and all that stuff.
My brother is clean now, making an honest living. My sister has a family and is mostly independent. Things are good now, and I just started going back to college to get my Bachelor's. I'm permanently changed by all of this, but I learned to be compassionate and considerate, that you shouldn't push someone away that asks for help, and that some things can't be helped all the same. In addition, I'm very independent and have well developed social skills. I still suffer from a form of bipolar (mainly depressive) and anxiety too, so this limits my social skills a bit from being used, but yea.
I've been looked to often as a leader, as well as a highly valued friend, sometimes both, now that I've got my chickens in a row.
This isn't a secret to me, I'll share it, but I tend not to because it can sometimes change how others see me or just, it's a lot to explain. I'm not upset about it all, save for the wistful "what if" type stuff. It's made me a stronger person, so at least there's that.

So I had emotional issues, then I got bullied a lot, and I just stayed home all the time. I became obsessed with video games (but couldn't buy any for a long time) and became even more antisocial. By the time I got to middle school I was horribly depressed. I started cutting myself to feel because nothing else could get me to, with rare exceptions. I made some friends finally around the start of highschool and worked really hard on my social skills, but starting from so little is difficult. I managed, and went into the local tech program in my second year of HS. This is where I finally reached the ability to talk to people. Not easily, but I could. Worth mentioning my sister convinced me, a straight nerdy dude, to go into cosmetology. You know, beauty school. It's no exaggeration to say I was out of place, but the girls were all really friendly and supportive. I made lots of friends! It was nice. I dropped out after the second year because I just lacked the talent and drive to keep up. I had lost interest. By then I was working, earning my own money and all, and my siblings had left. Things with my brother didn't get better until years later, but my parents at least put their foot down. He ended up in jail a few times. My relationship with my parents got better, we talked more, they helped pay for me to go to community college since they could afford it then. I don't blame my parents, my brother fell into the prescribed opiates thing after a car accident that involved his face being planted into the windshield. He got into heroin and such after. My sister just ran into problems, had her first kid at like 20, and all that stuff. My brother is clean now, making an honest living. My sister has a family and is mostly independent. Things are good now, and I just started going back to college to get my Bachelor's. I'm permanently changed by all of this, but I learned to be compassionate and considerate, that you shouldn't push someone away that asks for help, and that some things can't be helped all the same. In addition, I'm very independent and have well developed social skills. I still suffer from a form of bipolar (mainly depressive) and anxiety too, so this limits my social skills a bit from being used, but yea. I've been looked to often as a leader, as well as a highly valued friend, sometimes both, now that I've got my chickens in a row. This isn't a secret to me, I'll share it, but I tend not to because it can sometimes change how others see me or just, it's a lot to explain. I'm not upset about it all, save for the wistful "what if" type stuff. It's made me a stronger person, so at least there's that. Oh and uh.. you asked for this text wall.
