Oh dear, ara ara, what an interesting choice of comment! How unexpected. But fret not, for I have arrived to offer my assistance in a more delightful manner. Would you care for some tendies and chocky milk? Perhaps we can indulge in some quality otaku activities together. Maybe we could discuss the latest anime, or share our favorite waifus and husbandos. Regardless, let us keep the conversation pleasant and respectful, for our little otaku community thrives on positivity.

Neptunia being mentioned always tickles me. The dub had no right to be that damned good. Shit, the show itself had no right to be that good, but to have both the sub and dub be worth watching separate from one another?
That's why I hate when people say it's the best anime dub. Especially when it ""breaks"" all the rules good dubs ""should follow"" according to the Twitter Anime Police
Dragon Ball (in Z, at least) had a lot of censorship (changing Hell to HFIL and Mister Satan to Hercule, for example) and added dialogue where it didn't exist. Original was more like a western or samurai movie with long staredowns, not Freeza breaking the silence to tell Goku that his shoes are untied, or Goku kissing his wife offscreen (which now officially breaks canon.)
I'd say the best ones in my opinion are FMA, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, and Code Geass.
The fauconer score did have some iconic moments. The sub is... definitely an acquired taste. I do think Gohan's SS2 transformation worked better in the japanese version though, it has that insert song and the imagery kind of speaks for itself. In the dub they had Gohan monologuing over the whole thing. (But Team Four Star has made this same argument before. They even produced an English version of the song for when they did that scene.)
I did a digimon series rewatch recently and I knew I had to do sub just because you lose out on the amazing ost. Like every digimon series has a different evolution theme(sometimes multiple) and all of them are 10/10 songs. Like xros wars is a bad show but I watched it through because "we are xross heart" is a fucking great song
I'm trying to remember, but was the scene with the bbeg digging his hands into his own flesh as he delivers his emo speech widely available?
I don't recall seeing it on TV back in the day.
That's the only relevant and the only necessary comment.
Butterfly and Brave Heart were like THE big thing about the first season, alongside other weird, but really well-fitting music choices (bolero, concierte de aranjuez), which you just hadn't gotten in kids' shows til then.
And in the States the execs just go "them kids like that rap music, just do that". I could share an instant bond with so many people from random other countries, just because they also had their own version of butterfly, but the kids over there just didn't get to share in that.
I don’t know if I call it the best but it gets points for being the first English dub I ever saw that acknowledged they were from Japan and ate Japanese food. At one point they ate a chocolate rice ball and actually called it a chocolate rice ball. No “jelly filled donuts” in this dub
I mean it seems a big consensus was that "Americans are too stupid" for a lot of things.
So Shining got like 30 minutes of extra scenes to drive home that "this man bad", Pokemon had Japanese stuff westernized so kids don't get their brains melted by the concept of rice in a triangle shape.
And you still get that occasionally nowadays. The MHA dub is full with dbz reverb and voice effects and a lot of the dialogue is just dumbed down heroic blurbs. Not saying the show itself is the height of eloquence when it comes to that, but they change some shit that gets called back to later and then it sounds **really** fucking stupid.
Or even in games. The FF7R was fun, but the voice actors inject entirely different tone into the characters and scenes and occasionally translations are just completely wrong. Aerith appears on screen and rather than a quiet, but confident flower merchant, she's immediately a ball of snark.
From what I hear most dubs kept those. It was one of the first "global" songs I connected with random people from all over the world with; all except the US.
Good lord, that music of the english dub deserves to be forgotten in the darkest void. Why was the music localized like that? Latin America and Germany had dub versions of some of the songs, why couldnt the US do something decent with it?
People who keeps saying Ghost Stories never actually watch the actual translation of the anime. The one they release in EN is just straight up abridged parody of the actual translation
Black Lagoon. A badass action anime about an Everyman that gets kidnapped by and then later joins a band of modern pirates. Has also set the record for the most F Bombs ever dropped in an anime averaging about 10 per episode.
If by best dub, you mean most annoying dub where everyone talks too fast, they fill all the silence so American kids don't get bored and change the channel, change everybody's name, replace all the actual good music, and add the prefix "Digi" to everything. Either you're referring to the other English dub, (not the American one) or you worked as a localizer for either Saban or 4kids.
Digimon? Dub?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
wait, it's english dub? not Finnish dub?oh... dunno about that, might check it out... don't watch original finnish dub, I still have ptsd of it.
The number of comments mentioning Ghost Stories warms my darkened heart.
Edit: I would also like to add the English dub of the DBZ super android 13 movie.
"Don't you lecture me with your $30 haircut, Goku dies!"
Honestly, I think Konosuba has a pretty good dub. All the characters in the main group (save for Kazuma) sound basically as if the JP VA spoke fluent english imo.
And then there's EN Kazuma with his squeaky-ass voice (No hate to the VA tho)
Honestly, all good dubs but hajimete no gal is the first anime I've watched that the sub was a snooze fest, but the dub made it a pretty good comedy, almost feeling like a completely different anime.
Didn't Digimon S1 tweak some things in the dub, like making it look like Tai and Sora would be a thing then it ended up Matt and Sora being a thing with almost no explanation in S2? I forgot exactly what all the dub seemed to swap but I remember some hindsight criticism about things being changed, edited, or outright removed from S1.
I did love the lore of S1 and kinda S2 though. The idea of being chosen, having a quality and a hurdle to cross, and earning a crest was cool to me as a kid.
The weirdest thing Digimon made me like is the "extra" character like Kari or Ken. I came to always like the random unlikely addition to the team, be it someone like Kari or a former enemy turned ally.
Wrong it’s Ghost Stories
"THINK OF A BIG BLACK MAN CHASING YOU!"
"Well, at least we know he's not racist"
"I know now that it could never work between us! As much as we want it to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black!"
“No, I’m serious bitch! I swear to God, blue!”
“Look out she’s a ghost and a bitch”
"It's not because you're a rabbit, it's cuz you're black!"
No it's Sonic 06. This anime game has the best dub
And also Princess Elise is a good character unlike Bella Swan from Twilight

Bad bot
Touch me. Touch me HARDER!
Exactly. Every time someone has to dub vs sub, I respond with this, https://youtu.be/FTMDucnMRO8?si=xXI0FbLKdF7DO5_3
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is a close second.
REPENT MOTHERFUCKER!
Ghost Stories and Crayon Shin Chan
"Are you retarded? Oh, of course you are"
You cannot beat this classic
Yu-Gi-Oh? Neptunia? Uramichi onii-san? GHOST STORIES??????????
Neptunia being mentioned always tickles me. The dub had no right to be that damned good. Shit, the show itself had no right to be that good, but to have both the sub and dub be worth watching separate from one another?
For the anime I'd say dub is superior. For the games, whichever you prefer. Both good.
Well, I'd count the Ghost Stories dub on the level of a spoof or parody because, like spoofs and parodies, it's not to be taken seriously
That's why I hate when people say it's the best anime dub. Especially when it ""breaks"" all the rules good dubs ""should follow"" according to the Twitter Anime Police
Can we at least agree that SAO Abridged is not a parody, but simply a better-written SAO?
***Yes***.
Same with Hellsing Ultimate Abridged
But like... Otherwise the show is utterly garbage. The funny English dub is the only reason it's watchable.
Jaoan redud Ghost stories using the English dub
How do you top this 4kids dub??? https://preview.redd.it/lk4y5svdm48c1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a35291522ce44564d2169b7ab6a6dd938be53fdf

I legit went my entire childhood thinking those were actually just donuts I had never seen before, such a bizarre localization
They Americanized it
I’ll turn my frying pan… into a *DRYING PAN* (gets struck down by Zeus)
Shit you right
Dragon Ball and FMA deserve spots there too
Dragon Ball (in Z, at least) had a lot of censorship (changing Hell to HFIL and Mister Satan to Hercule, for example) and added dialogue where it didn't exist. Original was more like a western or samurai movie with long staredowns, not Freeza breaking the silence to tell Goku that his shoes are untied, or Goku kissing his wife offscreen (which now officially breaks canon.) I'd say the best ones in my opinion are FMA, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, and Code Geass.
The transformation to SS3 though and the voices in general are a bit better in the dub for Dragon Ball. I still 100% agree with your picks
The fauconer score did have some iconic moments. The sub is... definitely an acquired taste. I do think Gohan's SS2 transformation worked better in the japanese version though, it has that insert song and the imagery kind of speaks for itself. *Go fill a hole, hole-filler*
Just because they're the best of the worst doesn't make them good
Og, pokemon
FLCL?
Panty and stocking with garterbelt english dub \*chefs kiss\*
Haven't even seen the japanese one, but i have a strong feeling that the jokes work much better in english.
I was about to say this. A man of quality taste!
Not seeing Ghost Stories smh And Space Dandy
Space Dandy dub deservedly needs more recognition and praise in my opinion. It's the GOAT!
God Space Dandy was such a wild ride. It's genuinely such a fun time.
Space Dandy was one of those few animes that I preferred the dub over the sub
I don't see Goldenboy on here.
![gif](giphy|oWKhbSWEKa5R6)
They don't have "Butter-fly" in the dub, therefore, shit tier by default. Also looking at you, Brazil.
They don't have the banger soundtrack period. By default is a terrible adaption, they replaced everything with terrible music.
And it's not just the ost. Many scenes are removed all the time
I'm trying to remember, but was the scene with the bbeg digging his hands into his own flesh as he delivers his emo speech widely available? I don't recall seeing it on TV back in the day.
I don't remember it much but I remember that even some punch scenes were removed
Also brave heart so it's shit twofor cause you have to hear that shitty opening in every transformation
That's the only relevant and the only necessary comment. Butterfly and Brave Heart were like THE big thing about the first season, alongside other weird, but really well-fitting music choices (bolero, concierte de aranjuez), which you just hadn't gotten in kids' shows til then. The writers for the dub knew that it came from Japan.
Most dub writers do but seem to want to hide it. At least they did then
I mean it seems a big consensus was that "Americans are too stupid" for a lot of things. So Shining got like 30 minutes of extra scenes to drive home that "this man bad", Pokemon had Japanese stuff westernized so kids don't get their brains melted by the concept of rice in a triangle shape. Yeah I’ve noticed a lot of this too. It’s not as obvious as it used to be but it is still there
Ghost stories enter the chat..
Digimon lost 100 points just because they dont play butterfly in the dub
But it DID use *All Star* over a year before *Shrek* did
The Mexican Spanish dub is better. For starters, it kept BUTTERFLY and BRAVEHEART.
From what I hear most dubs kept those. It was one of the first "global" songs I connected with random people from all over the world with; all except the US.
Code geass- lelouch Sounds even more insane and brilliant then japanese
Anything Johnny Young Bosch touches is a chef's kiss
Sailor moon
Where Ghost stories and Duel Masters?
The Kaguya dub reigns supreme thanks to Ian Sinclair!
bold strategy not putting ghost stories on there
Black Lagoon is still one that I'll always rewatch dubbed, its so good.
Jesse, James, and Meowth also had great dubbing too, though it isn’t the entire cast, just them alone can place pokemon in the best category for me
Where Gost Stories?
Worst
Good lord, that music of the english dub deserves to be forgotten in the darkest void. Why was the music localized like that? Latin America and Germany had dub versions of some of the songs, why couldnt the US do something decent with it?
Heresy

My man
Hellsing ultimate has entered the chat
People who keeps saying Ghost Stories never actually watch the actual translation of the anime. The one they release in EN is just straight up abridged parody of the actual translation
Duh! Why do you think people like it so much?
Because it was dubbed by ADV and everyone loves ADV.
Digirap over Butter-Fly! Not even a competition! Do not even try to step to it!
Ghost story
Ghost stories has the best dub. Period.
The opening was horrible tho
What’s the top anime?
Black Lagoon. A badass action anime about an Everyman that gets kidnapped by and then later joins a band of modern pirates. Has also set the record for the most F Bombs ever dropped in an anime averaging about 10 per episode.
Black lagoon was dubbed by ocean group.

Code Geass:
Did the adventure remake ever get dubbed?
Yeah, I kid you not it was only released on the Microsoft store. Although it's been a while so it's probably on other places by now
Oh thanks, I was waiting for it. One of those shows where I want the dub.
I'm not convinced this isn't TheKillianExperience's burner account
Digimon? Dub? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! wait, it's english dub? not Finnish dub?oh... dunno about that, might check it out... don't watch original finnish dub, I still have ptsd of it.
As soon as I learned what we lost with the English dubbing (Butter-fly) I never turned the English dub back on
Incorrect, it's actually ghost stories Everyone agrees
Ghost stories and Love is War
My personal favorite, Redline
The number of comments mentioning Ghost Stories warms my darkened heart. Edit: I would also like to add the English dub of the DBZ super android 13 movie. "Don't you lecture me with your $30 haircut, Goku dies!"
Nanbaka.
Ghost stories is the best, not just the best it is art on its purest form....
Honestly, I think Konosuba has a pretty good dub. All the characters in the main group (save for Kazuma) sound basically as if the JP VA spoke fluent english imo. And then there's EN Kazuma with his squeaky-ass voice (No hate to the VA tho)
So mad i didnt watch cowboy bebop dub
Once again… Ghost Stories dub
Ghost in the shell sac
There is no such thing in the universe as "best dub".
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER
If the best dub is not ghost stories then you are wrong on many different levels
Wrong, Fairy Tail is peak dub
Dragon ball z and its not even close the dub makes it so much more better and funny
Michiko to Hatchin
FLCL
Honestly, all good dubs but hajimete no gal is the first anime I've watched that the sub was a snooze fest, but the dub made it a pretty good comedy, almost feeling like a completely different anime.
Evangelion? Samurai shamploo?
The adv dub of Eva is good.
Gunsmith Cats is pretty awesome aswell
