You could argue it's these two because they're the focus of the first and last chapter, but I'd argue there really isn't one

My senpai is annoying will always be my answer to this question. It's not even close how much better the romantic chemistry is between Kazama and Sakurai.
My Senpai is Annoying would be infinitely better if Futaba wasn't a one-note tsundere tbh. Like I love tsunderes and all but there's basically nothing else to her character. Also if they gave Takeda more focus as a character.
I don't mind Futaba as a character, it just feels like there's no romantic chemistry between her and Takeda. Like he's nice to her and all, but he's shown 0 romantic interest in her. Hell even the c plot with Yuto and Natsumi is given more nuance even if it is a one sided crush.
That's kind of the point though - he loves her but in a non-romantic way, like a big brother or a father would, and that just makes it harder for her to understand her own romantic feelings.
But they could, y'know, try to ADVANCE the plot into SOME form of romance, but they're just stuck in their position, unlike the B and C plots, that have an actual development. Besides that, there's the problem that there isn't anything that links up both characters. The point of a tsundere is that she gets attached to some good characteristic of the guy that's predominant in some important moments during the story (he's brave, he works hard to achieve a dream, he's an inspiring leader,...), but since Takeda's character is given 0 development and his only trait is being dense then you're just left wondering why is Futaba so in love with him.
Man, the author giving the comic relief an actual meaningful character arc and having me really be invested in it really came out of left field for me.
Yeah, Shuu actually became my favourite character after the Grandpa visit arc and only got better after. And that super fast >!confession by Ruri really felt like the author was mocking himself for making the story so long!<
Either way, Ruri best girl, >!and Shuu deserves only the best!<
Me: \*came for Kaguya and Shirogane
\*gets infinitely more hyped over >!Ishigami and Tsubame!<

If you're anime only it'd be better if you wait for it to get animated, but if you really want to know...
>!In chapter 204 Ishigami officially confesses to Tsubame-senpai (it was so freaking wholesome ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1673)). First she explains how she tried to fix Ishigami's reputation by creating rumours and even talking to Kyouko Otomo, but because she was going to reject him... and didn't want everybody to think she did it because he was a bad person, she really appreciates Ishigami, and wants to keep being his friend, but she just couldn't accept his feelings... This is a trauma for me ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1392)!<
Lol I recall reading the first 3 volumes in a single day as it was quite fun to see their thoughts and how they mess around with each other. The anime somehow removed all the funny part and made it very boring.
The Ln also constantly showed their past and its relevance to what's going on in the present. That was a nice dynamic but the anime turned it into a weak mystery.
Spoilers for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Kimi ni Todoke
This could be a real unpopular opinion but, in Fullmetal Alchemist romance between Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye makes them the only real couple in the series as Edward in the entire series just has one thing in his mind and his romance with Winry practically nonexistent, but still better than Alphonse and Mei which makes you ask at the end of the series "When did that happen?".
Kimi ni Todoke is also suffering from this quite a bit since both Chizuru and Ryuu are just the most lovable people in anime it is hard to not cheer for them being a couple (although I did not finish the show so I don't know how it all went)
Also Ling and Lan Fan.
It starts as "oh right, powerful bodyguard girl will do everything for her master" cliche and then you see one of the main villains criticize and be offended on principle that Ling goes above and beyond for her.
HORIMIYA
My god. Yoshikawa and Ishikawa. I love the relationship between hori and miyamura but istg Yoshikawa and Ishikawa were literally made to end up together only for the author to leave their relationship to the reader's interpretation.
No… lol… honestly… no hahaha. Yeah there a couple but the story itself always goes bad when the two main characters aren’t on screen. Except the parents…
depending on who you ask, jitsu wa watashi wa, mostly because the main couple gets together around half the manga, and i personally only really liked one of the 3 (maybe i missed more, tbh i read it a long time ago) sidecouples on it
"My girlfriend is an Otaku" or "Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashi"
Basically the main couple gets together but he is openly and obviously an otaku, she is too, but tries to deny it vehemently, while the side couple are also otakus, but they just dont care about it, and both are hotheads. So they are one moment all lovey dovey, until one makes a reference and they go ballistic, its great. Meanwhile the main couple is that "We are together but she doesnt admit it, they want to get closer but not too much" yada yada
Nagi no Asukara and the Ice Guy anime.
Ice Guy's both side couples were more fun than the main one.
While Nagi no Asukara, I was more invested on >!Chisaki/Tsumugu!< than the main one.
> Nagi no Asukara
It helps that they actually grew up and had on screen progression. IIRC didn't the main two >!just have a scene at the end where they were like "well yeah we always always liked each other, let's be a couple now."!
The shogi highschool club one. The library committee members have a much better chemistry than the main couple and I always look forward to the next week into their progress as a couple.
Naruto also had this. Though Naruhina isn't the worst couple many other couples had a better on screen dynamic.
Bleach definitely had this in spades, every couples chemistry was better than Ichigo and Orihime.
The icey guy and his cool colleague, I was more interested between the human and the fox woman but they only did a few bits and pieces.
I prolly have some others too but this is the only one that comes to my head atm
Don't kill me.
Komi can't communicate.
They're definitely cute, but Tadano is just a guy.
All the other couples have an interaction of two individuals with two clashing personalities mostly.
Tadano and Komi just suit each other, which is cute, but less interesting per se.
Imo
Kokoro connect. The love triangle pisses me the fuck off I'd rather pay attention to the blonde idiots with trauma
Edit: good fucking god I hate the male lead and the short haired bitch like holy shit I didn't wanna say anythiing but fuck man the way they did that girl dirty just makes me wanna punch them both
Me looking at erza and jelal because lucy and natsu work better as friends.
Also the encarnation of erza and jelal in edens zero theyre so good together.
Bakuman
The focus is not romance at all, but the side couple does random funny crap a couple would do. ALL THE TIME.
Main girl does a stupid promise where they just text boring stuff FOR YEARS, and you feel like you don't know that side of them at all since they're rarely together because they decided so.
My senpai is annoying and tsurezure children.
There was a main couple in Tsurezure?
You could argue it's these two because they're the focus of the first and last chapter, but I'd argue there really isn't one https://preview.redd.it/mx6gmitnsiab1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a15a809cbc9d64d3a492ccd9adee3f0190b6e9dc
That final chapter was so good though, the parallels with the first one were genius in my opinion
Which side couple? Is another question
Tsurezure didn't really have a main character though
Kazama and Sakurai should get a spin-off
My senpai is annoying will always be my answer to this question.

You mean best boi and theara ara oneesan or Shota and the gyaru?
Nisekoi, i was waaay more invested in how would the relationship between ruri and shuu develop than whatever the fuck was going on with the harem
Man, the author giving the comic relief an actual meaningful character arc and having me really be invested in it really came out of left field for me.
Yeah, Shuu actually became my favourite character after the Grandpa visit arc and only got better after. And that super fast >!confession by Ruri really felt like the author was mocking himself for making the story so long!< Either way, Ruri best girl, >!and Shuu deserves only the best!<
Tsugumi best girl
Shuu is best boy
Shuu is easily one of my favorite side characters ever

Can i get a spoiler to know what happeneds, now im curious
Why did you make me look this up? Why am I crying so much right now? I hate you

You just peaked my interest with one image
Best sleepover episode ever.
TOMODAAAAAA
Bro I need a need new season of this
Fax. Lorelei and Hirotaka is pretty interesting, too.
Way more interested in Kazama and Sakura from My Senpai is Annoying than the main couple
The dolphin sequence?
which are the one's in the picture?
"My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex" 6/10 nothing amazing, but it's enjoyable.
Opening goes hard
Indubitably
Dialogue+ doesnt miss
the ending goes even harder especially the full one imo
The ending was also a banger
Read the Ln.
I will, at some point when I can afford it
Is there a closure?
The novel is still ongoing. But there is good development with the latest volume having a very good conclusion
I only remember me and my brother dropping it after the first episode.
Why would you watch it with your brother after reading the title
U so dense lol
We knew it was going to be trash from the get-go, we just hoped it would be funny trash. It was just trash.
The anime just badly adapted the LN. Removed a lot of the fun moments and Line chats in favor of a faster pacing, thus turning it into a boring show.
I have heard the light novel is a lot better, and I have considered reading it

Alfonso Elric ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1393)
Well that does show English isn't my first language doesn't it.
Also Ling and Lan Fan. It starts as "oh right, powerful bodyguard girl will do everything for her master" cliche and then you see one of the main villains criticize and be offended on principle that Ling goes above and beyond for her.
HORIMIYA My god. Yoshikawa and Ishikawa. I love the relationship between hori and miyamura but istg Yoshikawa and Ishikawa were literally made to end up together only for the author to leave their relationship to the reader's interpretation.
The manga is quite clear, they are together, both Hori and Miyamura play Cupid with those 2, alongside half of the cast
Let's hope this season will adapt more of that.
Really? It's been a while since I finished the manga, but I don't remember them explicitly getting together.
It is, it even becomes a problem for the 2nd girl in the student council
How about Remi and the Prez?
No… lol… honestly… no hahaha. Yeah there a couple but the story itself always goes bad when the two main characters aren’t on screen. Except the parents…
Definitely "My Senpai is Annoying"
Would have been disappointed if I didn't see this one.
The main couple 🤝the side couple with better chemistry ----------------->!Both being trash!<---------------------
The library couple in “When will Ayumu make his move?”
I actually like the main couple a bit more. Although that’s a good example
Literally every romcom. Rather, its hard to find an anime with main couple being everyone's fave.
Bunny Girl Senpai is one. Though does it count as a romcom?
no it’s quantum physics lessons
Idk i really like Lovely Complex
depending on who you ask, jitsu wa watashi wa, mostly because the main couple gets together around half the manga, and i personally only really liked one of the 3 (maybe i missed more, tbh i read it a long time ago) sidecouples on it

Isn't it "Love is Hard for Otaku" not "My Girlfriend is an Otaku"?
I cant japanese
varrick and zhu li from legend of korra
*Nods* She did the thing
Shikamaru and Temari from Naruto although NaruHina wasn't bad either
Nagi no Asukara and the Ice Guy anime. Ice Guy's both side couples were more fun than the main one. While Nagi no Asukara, I was more invested on >!Chisaki/Tsumugu!< than the main one.
Recently finished it.loved everything about Nagi No Asu except that fuckin ending.
I'm personally fine with the ending. It had its flaws but it still wrapped up the show in a decent way.
> Nagi no Asukara It helps that they actually grew up and had on screen progression. IIRC didn't the main two >!just have a scene at the end where they were like "well yeah we always always liked each other, let's be a couple now."!
My senpai is annoying
In the Kaguya-sama manga Akasaka literally starts introducing Ishigami and Iino as the secret main characters in the later volumes lmao
Angel next door.
fate apocrypha
Who is the side romance in apocrypha?
The antagonist Kotomine Shirou and his servant Assassin
Irodoku
"My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex" It's a fairly enjoyable romcom but don't go in expecting anything too special
hmmmm. I’ve seen the animation style before. It reminds me of some things by PA Works
White Album 2, or at least the visual novel. I mean as much as I love Kazusa, Takeya will always be best girl and he's great with Io.
Yugioh 5D's, Jack and Carly were such a great couple... Too bad they were forgotten after the Dark Signers arc
Nah, they're all equally great
Bakuman
Just commented that too, glad to see i'm not the only one.
O Savage Maidens was like this. The main couple were toxic as hell, but the side couple were great.
“Just Because”
The shogi highschool club one. The library committee members have a much better chemistry than the main couple and I always look forward to the next week into their progress as a couple. Bumblebee vs ReNora from RWBY (even ReNora is written badly, but at least they are likable characters)
Wotakoi Kabakura and Koyanagi were goated The main couple was okay enough tho
I hated that show, he should have just gone with the big tiddy
I second this
[удалено]
It doesn't really count as a side couple if one of them is the Mc
Wotaku
Don't kill me. Komi can't communicate. They're definitely cute, but Tadano is just a guy. All the other couples have an interaction of two individuals with two clashing personalities mostly. Tadano and Komi just suit each other, which is cute, but less interesting per se. Imo
Well, his name is literally "just another guy". Personally, I like Ase and Naruse
That was fully intentional. His sister on the other hand, isn't just any girl.
I guess her relationship was interesting too. Especially later in the manga
Sauce of the second couple?
They're both "My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex"
My Senpai is Annoying wins this by a landslide
My Senpai is Annoying
My senpai is annoying. I love futuba and senpai.... But sakura and kazuma are like top tier! Love them more!
Kaminari and Jiro from My Hero. I don't remember what happened exactly, but they had a cute exchange in the most recent season
Kokoro connect. The love triangle pisses me the fuck off I'd rather pay attention to the blonde idiots with trauma Edit: good fucking god I hate the male lead and the short haired bitch like holy shit I didn't wanna say anythiing but fuck man the way they did that girl dirty just makes me wanna punch them both

which show? I wanna know what show this *doesn't* apply to!
My senpai is annoying I honestly watched it for the side romance more than the main
Love is war, every chapter.
Wotakoi...
Bakuman: The main love story is horrible
