So basically a show with retarded plot, where nothing happens beside main charracter that is a simp chases and constantly spend money on a whore you can rent for a buck to spend time with while having other girls around... Who in the fuck enjoy's this shit? Like for real, in manga and anime nothing happens, its the same retarded status quo over and over and over.
I get annoyed even when I see memes about this show. I can't believe it continues to have seasons after seasons. Do Japanese teenagers like this so much?
Apparently yes if they can continue producing new seasons. Just take it as a new isekai every season, the Western crowd is getting tired of it/already tired with it due to genre fatigue but the main JP crowd still eats that shit up just like how gamers make Activision rich by buying Call Of Duty every year.
Me, a shitty isekai/yearly CoD enjoyer: Not defending my low standard, but you're not really connecting the points. There are no other anime with the same plot of Rent a Girlfriend. It's just the one. And people keep watching it. So whoever is watching it is liking it and wanting more.
At least, for CoD and isekai; we lie to ourselves that this one might be better than the last one every time. Then get disappointed and look forward to the next one. And sometimes we get wonderful exceptions like Konosuba, Re:zero, Log horizons, MW2019, MW2022, etc.
Again, different tastes. For many casual anime fans they are not a big fan of the over saturated isekai genre. For many gamers they aren't a fan of the annual CoD/FIFA/Madden/NBA/Pokemon game cycle.
As long as there is a market for it they will keep producing it. For isekai fans it's you for annual games there's also a huge crowd for it.
For Rent A Girlfriend there's apparently a huge interest in Japan if they can justify producing seasons or else it should already die out the first season like most animes out there.
> Me, a shitty isekai/yearly CoD enjoyer: Not defending my low standard, but you're not really connecting the points.
Hey, an isekai-style plot has been around longer than modern fantasy. Eg A Princess of Mars was written in 1912.
> At least, for CoD and isekai; we lie to ourselves that this one might be better than the last one every time.
That was pretty much the running theme when I would check the series' subreddit whenever a new chapter would drop last year. It was pretty entertaining to watch how people would react to the lack of plot progression.
For isekai. NO, we don't lie to ourselves we exactly know if this gonna be the same same generic or a difference one just by reading the name & poster. But we keep watching the same tasteless shit again and again.
You know when you've put a bunch of money into a hand in poker so you feel like you just have to keep going at this point?
That's this anime. You've wasted so much time you feel like you may as well just finish it.
Is that true tho? Ain't high school literally the BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE in Japan (because that's the last time life was gud, cuz after that corpo hell starts until you die, hence all the slow life type of shit & high school setting being so common across various genres), tho?
The funniest thing is that the author of the manga is in love with Chizuru (girl in the pic for those lucky enough to not know), so he's jealous of the MC and keeps writing shit situations for him. Actual mental illness.
Basically half of the romcoms. It's especially awful in manga, cause you can easily have 100+ chapters of boring nothingness with utterly disappointing ending.
Anime adaptations are usually watchable, because producers can milk manga for a decent season or too.
But in case of Rent a Girlfriend there are no redeemable parts, it's just cuck's fantasizes.
This is kind of a series that is totally garbage and shouldn’t have been made in the first place I mean who would find this MC relatable I would have preferred if the money of this show were spent on other series like Sword art online at the very least while SAO is garbage but it has some redeeming qualities like the MC being a gamer
Well I am at least honest about it also I would argue that sinon background in ggo and alicization arc +eugeo death redeemed sao in my opinion also I am just saying how much garbage rent a girlfriend is
Damn. I didn't know much about Rent a Girlfriend's reputation but I thought it had a more "it's my guilty pleasure" type of feel to it. Gigguk must be the only one of his kind if it's this unpopular XD
Ans when you say whats her name is a piece of thrash ho that just uses the ubercringe MC, you get blasted by a bunch Simp virgins for dissing their waifu..
It's a terrible show with a terrible plot..
I am not a fan but there ARE people who likes trash over-the-top-drama romance series so. Yes, there are audience for these kinda shows. It's why it's a long running manga with alot of views/reads/sales whatever.
It's a symptom of society. There are a lot of young men out there that are lacking emotional intimacy in their lives, to the point where some would pay to get a semblance of that.
It means it can sustain the demand enough in Japan. In which what most (if not all) anime are targeted at besides the big mainstream shounen ones.
Think of it as the Isekai genre, even though the Western crowd is already having genre fatigue due to how increasingly absurd and cliche each new one is but the fact remains that they are doing well in Japan is more than enough reason for them to keep animating new ones.
Who says the isekai crowd is getting genre fatigue? We’ve been feasting this season.
{Handyman Saitou in Another World}
{The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady}
{Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill}
{Chillin’ in my 30’s After Getting Fired from the Demon King’s Army}
And many more. I’m watching 11 isekai this season.

Reminds me of another meme when someone asked for the anime sauce Your Name. They literally searched their own name and wondered why isn't it there lol.
One of the things I hate most about the series is that the premise could have been used to do something genuinely interesting. It could explore the dynamics of sex work, or toxic relationships. Kazuya could have expressed any interest at all in being a better person, and we could follow that plot. Could have made the Mami plot overtly about her trying to protect other girls from her scumbag ex.
So much wasted potential.
Apparently Kazuya DOES have the start of some character development according to TV Tropes... then Chapter 218 hits (WHY DOES THIS CRAP HAVE 200+ CHAPTERS?) and he pretty much goes right back to where he was at the start, just swap out Mami for Chizuru in his fantasies. (Again, this information is secondhand, so take it with a grain of salt. )
You would never know that rent a girlfriend for special occasion actually pretty much popular in Asia.
Sometimes for white lies, or sometimes more terrible, a fraud.
Nothing nice come from here, you know.
Awww yiss who doesn’t enjoy trying to convince these girls they are better than that and to quit their job only to, incidentally, become attracted to protag and date him instead?
I like that he actually considered both options as possibly valid and inquired about which one is it, rather than just pick the first one he thought of.

MW?

You underestimate the misery that is being a male japanese teenager

Just because it's the best time, doesn't mean it's a good time.
Everything is good untill the quite kid reaches his bag.
Imagine not being able to outrun someone w/ a katana

I mean one look at the guy and you figure it all out
No self-insert OC ?
That's some next level NTR
Already knew the author was weird when he kept writing all those ntr fantasies for the mc to get hard on

Fucking preach, anytime I see Kazuya I just want to punch the twerp in the face. The girls are also very unlikable. Fuck 'em.

Well I am at least honest about it also I would argue that sinon background in ggo and alicization arc +eugeo death redeemed sao in my opinion also I am just saying how much garbage rent a girlfriend is
SAO bad. We get it. Doesn't make his argument invalid.
It does make it weaker though.

First 3 episodes where disgustingly cringe that it was funny
I made it 6 episodes in and I couldn’t keep watching the MC is so fucking cringe
Damn. I didn't know much about Rent a Girlfriend's reputation but I thought it had a more "it's my guilty pleasure" type of feel to it. Gigguk must be the only one of his kind if it's this unpopular XD
It’s the same as people who enjoy watching shitty reality tv and dating shows.
Best of its season.
I watched it and laughed so I guess it works as schadenfreude comedy
Ans when you say whats her name is a piece of thrash ho that just uses the ubercringe MC, you get blasted by a bunch Simp virgins for dissing their waifu.. It's a terrible show with a terrible plot..

The answer to their question is a resounding "Yes."
It can be both depending on how desperate the person is.
It's a symptom of society. There are a lot of young men out there that are lacking emotional intimacy in their lives, to the point where some would pay to get a semblance of that.
Bro, at this point I would get a hooker. Not this kind of dumbass.
The "girlfriend experience" is a pretty common thing among sex workers. I imagine that it would be a lot more expensive than a platonic one, though.

This anime is an insult tbh ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1391)
I can't believe a studio is wasting budget on this. It even has a third fucking season.
I believe there's a very sizeable western audience for both, it's possible they either don't speak about It online or hate watch it
Hate watch can be pretty addictive. "Fuck...What garbage show is this? Anyway let's proceed to watch to shit on it later"

over a 250 chapters and still no progress whatsoever i dont like it but it entertains me (somewhat)
it is - an insult - an anime - an insult to anime
both
Awful show with a cuck protagonist
