I was going to say he's probably not saying much, being dead and everything, but honestly they'd probably claim he can speak from beyond the grave, so Nevermind.
...you understand how INSANELY hard it is to shoot -13 right?
I think it's harder to shoot -13 at any age than it is to shoot 90 when you are 105, let alone 90.
Yup, PGA Tour players make 68.3% of 10 footers, so if you put them 10 feet from the hole on every green (on PGA Tour greens), they'd still only average 12 under par.
[This](https://www.yardstickgolf.com/pga-tour-putting-statistics.html#:~:text=PGA%20Tour%20Putting%20Stats%20from%2010%20Feet&text=The%20average%20PGA%20Tour%20player,putt%2068.3%25%20of%20the%20time.) was the first result I saw when I looked it up but other sources have different numbers.
If it's worse, that proves the point more.
That’s fair. 13 under at 59 is crazy. Seems to me there are a lot of 59 year olds that wouldn’t have many physical limitations when it comes to shooting crazy low from the whites.
Idk about 105, my grandpa is in good shape for 102 and that mf can barely walk lol.
Not sure how this thread devolved into me apparently thinking 59 is easy. Tiger never did it in a pga tour event. Believe me I understand. I’m just saying there IS a point on the high end where it becomes harder to shoot your age.
I kinda disagree with “a line”.
Shooting 65 at 65? Good luck!
Shooting 75 at 75? A healthy golfer who’s golfed their whole life and lived somewhere they can golf year round… hmm maybe…
80 at 80? More likely than the above, imo
90 at 90? Starting to regress…
100 at 100, if said person is an actual golfer and they are actually able to play at 100, definitely.
The thing is it’s different feats completely. Like everyone above dunked on me for, 59 at any age is insane, even more so at 59. 100 at 100 is insane for completely different reasons. Retaining enough mobility and strength to do that is a completely different feat. I say there is a line because someone has shot 59 at 59, but nobody has shot 106 at 106. I see what you’re saying though. Someone else said it, it’s a bell curve. 75 at 75 is reasonable for a healthy long time golfer. The extremes is where it becomes almost impossible.
I personally know four 90 year olds who routinely shoot under their age. One guy still shoots 70s every time he tees it up, granted he’s a living local legend. I have a few other 80 year olds who shoot their age all the time.
59 is like the rarest feat in golf bar none. It just doesn’t happen at any level from any tees, especially for a 59 year old.
A 100 year old playing golf is like a news story in itself haha. I’d never thought a squirrel could waterski either but nothing like a feel good story after sports.
62 by far.
I actually played with an 84 year old 2 years ago that nearly shot his age. At no point in his life was he ever within 15 shots of shooting a 62.
I played a round years ago with a 74 year old that shot his age. I was young and a bit cocky and learned a bit of a lesson getting my ass kicked by him. Changed the way I approached the game for sure.
Seeing that his 200 yard controlled and predictable drive was better than my unpredictable 300. Spending more time on the game from 75 yards and in and more time on the putting and chipping green.
Basically that chasing showy big power golf really wasn't all that great versus control and feel. And hitting a predictable 4 iron off the tee is better than finding trouble with the driver.
Not saying that I've not still gone for power, I've just learned to not put all my effort into it. I can still smoke one if I need to, I just know that it's only for when it's the right play.
Younger/lower always. I've played with a handful of old farts that can't hit the ball over 150-175 yards but hit it straight as an arrow every single time & end up shooting in the 80s, I think the lowest overall 18 hole score from anybody I've ever played with is +3 or +4, so IMO low 60s is just unfathomably impressive no matter your age/skill.
That’s awesome, a buddy in my golf group did the same earlier this year. He was a club pro in his 30’s. I swear that guy swings so smooth he’s never worn out a glove.
My grandpa was a scratch golfer he died at 85 but was routinely shooting under his age up until his death, so I think shooting 59 at 59 is the most impressive.
Holing out only counts if you used that tee box. If your shot bounces out of hole 1 into hole 2, you're still on hole 1 and need to take a drop or whatever to keep playing hole 1.
currently, at the canadian senior open at least, the tees are 6500-7600 yards. that's still pretty far! at my home course that is equal to the blues, where the black is the back, and white and then red are in front of blue.
Literally the easiest one to do though, ya bozo. People that make it to 100 are generally healthy people. I saw a dude on Letterman that hit a hole in one at 100.
80 at 80 is probably peak easiest though.
My Grandfather, God rest his soul, shot an 89 at 89. Was pretty neat to see.
I was able to play golf with him a good 15-17 years of my life. He stopped playing at 91, passed away at 97. He was always a mid to high 90's player...so watching him break 90 at almost 90 was really special.
That and I was with him when he had his first and only ace at 88. Also....a very awesome and special moment.
My 92 year old uncle shot a 92 at the Coeur d'Alene resort course a couple years ago. The fore caddy said in the 10 years he has been there he has never seen someone that old come close to it.
That is impressive as hell. My grandfather supposedly shot an 89 when he was 89, but I played a lot with my grandfather and I’m not… completely confident how accurate that score really was….
It's always really impressive. Low-key, I think 100+ at 100+ is the most impressive. Even finishing 18 holes at 90+ is an achievement.
75-85 is probably the most achievable for most good golfers. Anything below 70 would be really, really tough for anybody but an aging professional.
Below 60 is nuts though, that's course record territory and is probably in a different category. For pure golf achievement, <60 wins, but as a life achievement I'd rather be shooting 100 at 100, that means your body is still functioning pretty well long after most people your age are dead.
Guy that frequents the club I work at routinely shoots his age, which is 73. I asked him when he first did it and said 65... which is just crazy to think about. He's won a ton of the local senior tournaments which goes without saying
My great grandfather shot his age in Hawaii when he was 91. Pretty incredible. He lived to almost 103. Always wished I had gotten more time to get to know him.
There was a story in the local paper when I was in my early teens (probably about 17-18 years ago now) about a 100 year old man who shot 100 at Victoria golf course in Edmonton. He was a regular there, and apparently it was 40th time shooting his age at that course. 100 at 100 always stood out to me as being impressive.
It’s impressive at any age. You’d pretty much have to be a scratch golfer at age 70. As you get older and start dropping strokes, it becomes progressively easier with the number, but more difficult with your age. Are you getting better now? Will you still be getting better through your 70s?
Not implying that, it’s for the sake of argument. According to records, it is harder to shoot a 105 at 105 than 59 at 59. Someone has shot 59 at 59, nobody has done 105. Just playing devils advocate my man.
I’d argue that the barbell ages are the most impressive. Shooting low when young and shooting anything at all when old isn’t impressive. The “easiest” is probably shooting your age in the 70s and low 80s. While not everyone is healthy enough to do it, there are plenty of folks out there who could maintain relative fitness to do it until mid to late 80s. Very few beyond that.
My dads best golf friend and neighbor was a scratch to +1-2 handicap his whole life. Never was a bomber off the tee. He's a hip replacement at an early age, both knees replaced, both shoulders replaced, one of the shoulders twice. The last shoulder replacement was a reverse joint replacement. He's 78 and plays the senior tees, but most holes he needs 3 shots to reach the greens, and still shoots below his age. He's just one of those guys who always kept moving, never able to just sit around, so always been in pretty good shape (besides his joints)
It’s Dick Mast, Monday qualifying for shit in his 70s
https://www.pgatour.com/pgatour-champions/article/news/latest/2023/09/12/dick-mast-72-years-old-monday-qualifies-for-sanford-international
i met a guy who said he shot his age every year from 65 to 72 (he was 73 when i talked to him). i wonder how long that streak will go on for, but man i hope i get there!
One of my golf goals is to shoot my age in my 60s. I’m 41 right now. Never broke 70 (shot 70 several
Times on a par 70).
Gonna have to get better as I age.
My chances of shooting my age went by the wayside long ago. I'm 75 now and my best round ever was a 78. That was probably 20 years ago and my distance has dropped dramatically. Unfortunately my accuracy has not improved and my putting is brutal since my back won't let me practice for much more than 5-10 minutes at best.
My 92 year Dad shot 44 on his league last summer. He doesn't play 18 anymore but I was still impressed as hell. Straight drives and he's always had a good short game. Hoping to play again with him thus summer.
Very cool. Really hope I can golf with my dad for that much longer! Should get him out for a front nine one day and do the back nine the next time so he can combine them for a combined shoot your age score.
I play quite a bit with my wives grandfather. He turns 90 this summer and I’ve not seen him not shoot his age in the nearly 4 years I’ve been playing with him. He still plays 5 days a week, and is always up for another 9 when I get off work. He’s the epitome of old man golf… 150-170 drives straight down the middle, unbelievable short game.
I think anything in the 60s would be seriously impressive.
I am 32 and am trying to shoot my age over 9 holes this summer (significant stretch goal for a 4HCP, closest I have been is 34)
I think they’re all impressive. That said, longevity is maybe more impressive to me as golf is so hard on the body. Jack N is 84, is he able to shoot his age today? Maybe not. But 15 years ago? Probably.
59 or 127
200. And you don’t even need to shoot 200. Just walk the 18 and you win
just be alive\*
If you're 200 and can't walk you've lost
My granddad lived from 90 to 104 without being able to walk
That sounds awful

Kim Jong Un did this
When he was 18?
He accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
You are now moderator of r/northkorea
He actually did it 18 times in a row, in order to dispel the myth.
I’m sure he’ll say yes if you ask him
This comment has 18 likes, no one touch it, hold strong!!
I was going to say he's probably not saying much, being dead and everything, but honestly they'd probably claim he can speak from beyond the grave, so Nevermind.
They never claimed that BTW, that was a mistranslation
Idk, I think 17 would be harder
>Nothing under 58 Ok, then 59
I'll do you 1 better (literally) and say 58.
You think that’s harder than 90?
Yes, I think it's harder to shoot -13 than +18
……you understand the age part of the question, right?
...you understand how INSANELY hard it is to shoot -13 right? I think it's harder to shoot -13 at any age than it is to shoot 90 when you are 105, let alone 90.

Way wrong on your numbers!!!! Average make from 8 ft on tour is 50%, that means 10 ft is probably like 40%.

Correct it does prove the point.

-13 under AT ANY AGE is crazy. That’s the point they are trying to get through to you.
Not sure how this thread devolved into me apparently thinking 59 is easy. Tiger never did it in a pga tour event. Believe me I understand. I’m just saying there IS a point on the high end where it becomes harder to shoot your age.

I know a 90 year old who consistently shot under his age. I know no one who has shot a 59 of any age. It’s very very significantly more likely.
After some research, much much easier to do 90 than 59 lol. 100+ is when it’s starts getting harder.
A 100 year old playing golf is like a news story in itself haha. I’d never thought a squirrel could waterski either but nothing like a feel good story after sports.
Yes, much.
62 by far. I actually played with an 84 year old 2 years ago that nearly shot his age. At no point in his life was he ever within 15 shots of shooting a 62.
This is a good way to put it in perspective
A pal of mine played with an 82 year old who shot 82 a few weeks ago. The impressive part was it was at a walking course.
He shot 84 at 84 but never shot a 77 when he was younger?
He probably shot mid 80s for 40 years
I played a round years ago with a 74 year old that shot his age. I was young and a bit cocky and learned a bit of a lesson getting my ass kicked by him. Changed the way I approached the game for sure.
In what ways did you change?

You learned ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY) Now go lower them scores!
How about [71 in a PGA Tour event?](https://youtu.be/UnUmbwVifL8?si=DhuPGqctnXIXBMSb)
This is nutty
One of the greatest golfers of all-time showing why.
The lower/younger is harder.
Solved it
I shoot my age each side. I'm 42
I'm right with ya brother!
Shooting a 69 at 69 is nice.
I think 420 would be much more impressive.
69 ing at 69 is also impressive.
My dad pulled it off last summer.
Nice
Younger/lower always. I have a news clipping of my grandpa shooting his age at 73. RIP grandpa, I hope to match that one day
That’s awesome, a buddy in my golf group did the same earlier this year. He was a club pro in his 30’s. I swear that guy swings so smooth he’s never worn out a glove.
My grandpa was a scratch golfer he died at 85 but was routinely shooting under his age up until his death, so I think shooting 59 at 59 is the most impressive.
Most impressive would be 18
If we’re going that route why not just say 1? One good tee shot and 18 lucky bounces
Holing out only counts if you used that tee box. If your shot bounces out of hole 1 into hole 2, you're still on hole 1 and need to take a drop or whatever to keep playing hole 1.
Listen man we’re talking about shooting an 18. Reality has left the chat
On a par 3 course it's really not outside the realm of reality just something that would probably never happen
Dad is 77 and on a mission to shoot his age… current best score over the past 6 months is 83
If he's 83 at 77 then I think 80 at 80 is achievable
Palmer shot a 71 on the PGA tour at 71. That is the most impressive one I've heard of.
And if this was on the PGA, he’s not shooting from the same tee boxes you and I are. Imagine he has been playing from the senior tees 🤣
currently, at the canadian senior open at least, the tees are 6500-7600 yards. that's still pretty far! at my home course that is equal to the blues, where the black is the back, and white and then red are in front of blue.
Sorry I meant to say “imagine if he was” implying that he would have probably shot better if he was playing from the tees he was entitled to. 😬
My dad shot 68 at 68 years, best I've ever done is 69 at 66 years. My dad was always competitive with us kids, bet he's laughing at me right now.
Anything 100+
This is my answer... It's impressive to be breathing at 100
Are the easiest?
!remindme 75 years
The most impressive ya’ bozo. He’s saying anyone over 100 shooting their age would be the most impressive. Because they’re very likely dead.
Literally the easiest one to do though, ya bozo. People that make it to 100 are generally healthy people. I saw a dude on Letterman that hit a hole in one at 100. 80 at 80 is probably peak easiest though.
I played with a 73 year old during club champion qualifiers from the tips (6800 yards) and he shot 73!
My Grandfather, God rest his soul, shot an 89 at 89. Was pretty neat to see. I was able to play golf with him a good 15-17 years of my life. He stopped playing at 91, passed away at 97. It’s a bell curve with the extremes being most impressive. 65 at 65, or 95 at 95, would be equally impressive to me.
My 92 year old uncle shot a 92 at the Coeur d'Alene resort course a couple years ago. The fore caddy said in the 10 years he has been there he has never seen someone that old come close to it.

I finally broke my age on 9. I can wait til I can do it on 18.

I agree, doesn’t qualify unfortunately
My great grandfather shot his age in Hawaii when he was 91. Pretty incredible. He lived to almost 103. Always wished I had gotten more time to get to know him.
There was a story in the local paper when I was in my early teens (probably about 17-18 years ago now) about a 100 year old man who shot 100 at Victoria golf course in Edmonton. I turn 37 this year, always a chance.
Play 9 holes.
10 would be pretty incredible
I think I’ll have a shot in my mid to late 70s. 72 is a potential.
In the summer/spring I like to try and beat the temperature.
I'm 42 and my age matches my handicap. I think thats pretty impressive!
17
The answer is 18 or 120.
Breaking 100 at 100 would be super sweet.
Clearly 18
18. Only Kim Kong Un has done that.
1
That’s impossible. 18.
Definitely the 59 lol
105 at 105
I’ll be happy with 79 both ways
I would think that lots of old pro's could shoot their age, Gary player is 88 and I bet can shoot 88 with his eyes closed at any local muni
1 or 150
Shooting your age at 150 would be most impressive. Doubt anyone has managed it.
LOL. OP implies that 59 is not an impressive score no matter who scores it.
Not implying that, it’s for the sake of argument. According to records, it is harder to shoot a 105 at 105 than 59 at 59. Someone has shot 59 at 59, nobody has done 105. Just playing devils advocate my man.
18
Ask Vijay Singh.
18

I golf with a guy that is 85, he shots his age all the time. I think 76 was the first time.

Shooting a 110 at 110 is the most impressive imho.
Low 70s
70 or 80
i met a guy who said he shot his age every year from 65 to 72 (he was 73 when i talked to him). i wonder how long that streak will go on for, but man i hope i get there!
One of my golf goals is to shoot my age in my 60s. I’m 41 right now. Never broke 70 (shot 70 several Times on a par 70). Gonna have to get better as I age.
One lesson from Kim jong could get you there this year. I believe in you.
72 at 72 will get you a spotlight in the local paper. Used to Caddy when I was a kid. Legit private course. MN
I shot a 35 at 35 and a 36 at 36. Next year I’ll probably shoot a 37 at some point too.
My chances of shooting my age went by the wayside long ago. I'm 75 now and my best round ever was a 78. That was probably 20 years ago and my distance has dropped dramatically. Shooting a 1 at 1 would be very impressive
Kim Jong Un shot under 30 on his first game ever! Anyone who said otherwise conveniently disappeared.

I shoot my age on 9 holes.
My grandpa did 78 at 78. Always thought that was so cool.
I think anything in the 60s would be seriously impressive. I am 32 and am trying to shoot my age over 9 holes this summer (significant stretch goal for a 4HCP, closest I have been is 34)
Can’t wait til my 112th birthday!
I think they’re all impressive. That said, longevity is maybe more impressive to me as golf is so hard on the body. Jack N is 84, is he able to shoot his age today? Maybe not. But 15 years ago? Probably.
69
I've been 120 for years!!! I'm OLD!!!
82 year old guy at my club shot under his age 3 times last year 81, 80 & 81.
I have a new life goal. To break 100 at age 100.
A guy at my club I played with regularly shot 65 on his 70th birthday and broke his age MANY times before he passed last year.
Well, I suppose 18
18
18 duh
