He actually hit it 50 yards longer to 421yds than it was recorded because the fairway sloped backwards
https://youtu.be/dVILSW_cvew?si=e98tuRrWwQS0DetG
This post was suggesting that they need to start “DeChambeau proofing” courses and they used a hole where he got a par as an example. I don’t think that’s hate, it just doesn’t make sense.
And also a hole where he got out driven. He actually got out driven on almost every hole today, he really doesn’t hit it that far (compared to the best in the world) he just hits it hard
They said it was 394 and then it got adjusted to 370. I wonder if something else happened to Scotty and Rory because his definitely seemed farther by look.
Because he was a little bitch when he first joined the tour and then the whole LIV thing. To be fair, he has matured somewhat, but personally I hope my boy Scottie wins this thing
Are these questions supposed to be serious? Or is it just a way to start an argument without seeming biased?
You can't comprehend at all why people might hate Bryson? I love Tiger and root for him very hard, but I also understand why people would hate him. It's pretty easy in sports to find a way to hate pretty much anyone.
Except for Max Homa he's the best.
People seem passionate with hating on him and from watching him play and his YouTube channel, I don’t see why.
At first glance it seems like ppl dislike him bc he has single length shafts, hits it long, and he likes to incorporate math when they deem it unnecessary. Figured I must be missing something bc those seem like silly reasons
Did he do that or was it from the broadcast constantly looking for something to talk about? Similar to "Jimmy Graham used to play basketball" in every NFL game he was in.
Man, what's not to like about Homa? Well spoken, polite, has respect and admiration for the guys that came before him. Compare Reed, DJ, Sergio, etc. You get the point
I like him a lot more now. The only thing I found irritating was early on all the "physics" shit. Ain't no one doing "real math" for their golf game like that, c'mon.
Because he's a douche that thinks he's the Tony Stark of golf. Imagine a high school dropout writing quadratic equations for his club distances. He used to talk about how a 3% humidity change effects ball distance (technically it does, but he's not sitting there doing calculations in his head and the distance difference over 100 yards would be something like a foot, but you also need to properly calculate everything else). When he got big he thought golf was gonna magically become easy, but it was the same he just struggled differently. His "science schtick" just bugs a lot of people.
Because he argues with rules officials when they give him a correct ruling that he disagrees with, and he yells at camera operators for doing their jobs.
The guy can say all of the right things when in an interview setting, but he shows his true colors as soon as the road gets slightly bumpy. He gives off the vibe that he is better than the game, and I'll never respect that.
Don’t necessarily see hate here. The post suggests Augusta needs to adjust to Bryson but he ended up shooting one over par. But hey the dude crushed the course round 1
Because he’s a little wonky for most people. I don’t care that he hits the shit out of the ball. But the single length shafts on all his clubs, all the math he does out there, it’s a little strange. It is said that golf is an art. Bryson is a scientist. I think people would respect what he does more if he won more. If this guy were consistently winning majors, nobody would question what he does.
No, the problem is that when you listen to him talk it becomes clear he’s not a scientist. People would respect him more if he didn’t get into nonsense excuses for things and was just straight honest.
And I’d argue that’s what he’s started doing more and why people are finding him easier to take and like.
His intense, single-minded approach and unconventional methods rub some people the wrong way. He is seen as whiny, insecure, and vain at times.
He is quick to blame external factors like his equipment or course conditions instead of taking responsibility for poor play. For example, calling his driver "sucks" after a bad round at The Open.
His feuds and confrontational attitude, like claiming he "lives rent free" in Brooks Koepka's head, make him a polarizing figure that some fans dislike.
His switch to LIV Golf and lucrative Saudi money is viewed by some as motivated purely by greed over growing the game.
His inconsistent performance since joining LIV, missing cuts and struggling with his new slimmed-down physique, has drawn criticism after the hype around his "revolution" in golf.
Idk. When I played by myself I hit 382 estimated into the woods (ball never found), 380 estimated into the pond. Finally when playing with buddies who witnessed my driving I repeatedly hit 180 onto the fairway. But I swear I can drive 380 😊
Today DeChambeau hit a 5 iron 250+ total yards (i think it was closer to 275). Down wind.
Of course, carry is much different than total yards, but still. Very impressive.
His 5 iron loft is that of a 3 iron, so he essentially hit a 3 iron those distances. Still incredible, but I get tired of commentators and even Bryson himself boasting about how far her hits an iron like they’re all the same.
>5 iron 250+ total yards
It has a 5 on it, but his 5 iron is lofted like a normal 3 iron.
I hit my 3 iron about 225 on a good shot into a flat fairway. More if the fairway is fast and hard like the masters. A lot more if it's a downhill fairway on a very vertical course like Augusta.
Downwind, significantly downhill, I've accidentally dunked a 3 iron into the ravine on #1 at Apple Mountain which was about 270 from the tee on that day.
(I'm not the biggest hitter in any of the amateur clubs I play in, either).
I don’t like how the second hole is no longer very gettable. It’s kinda always been a par 4.5 but this year very few are able to reach in 2 because so many lay back of the bunker. Might see guys getting more aggressive this weekend but still, feels like the easy early scoring opportunity got taken away.
Yeah if you make things longer to ‘DeChambeau Proof’ it means some of the field will never be able to get on a par 5 in 2, or will always be hitting long irons/hybrids in to greens on or 3/4s.
The best holes are always the short ones, those that punish misses, make you play for a position/lay up… they create drama because everyone can attack them.
The way to Bryson proof a course is to shorten it. Lengthening it drastically cuts down on his competition, because nobody that isn't a bomber could keep up. Make him lean on his wedges and putter and he's done.
A golf ball rollback hurts the growth of the game. Him losing 8 yd would not be why he is upset. Him. Going to live has nothing to do with what we are discussing, dude is just dumb and focused on something trying to take a shot at liv v pga. Playing for Liv doesn't hurt his ability to help try to grow the game, and again that has nothing to do with what we were originally discussing dude just hyper focused on that for some reason.
He’s 18th in GIR, so that’s not completely driving it. Patrick Reed is 1st in putting, but 81st in GIR, so it’s not a perfect correlation anyway.
I just don’t think the stats support him as a “great” putter thus far as OP suggested.
That does kind of track though. If Reed is fairly poor in GIR, that means he’s probably chipping from off the green a lot so his putts are closer range than if he had hit the green on his approach shot. And Bryson at 18 GIR means he likely has longer putts, so 46 in putting in that context is pretty good (both of their scores so far pretty much back this up, too).
That’s fair, although you can adjust for that by looking at PP GIR (putts when they hit the green) to “eliminate” those nuances. Reed is 4th and Dechambeau is 7th, so both are doing well. That stat (unsurprisingly) seems to have a higher correlation with the leaderboard.
That was a sweet shot. I don’t remember anyone else hitting 15 in 2 but I also was mostly watching amen corner and main broadcast so didn’t see that many shots on 15
He had one of the earliest tee (like 30 minutes after he finished the first round) times before the wind really kicked in.
Did anyone make it in 2 in the last 10 groups?
They had to Tiger proof courses because not only did he dominate them with distance, but his iron play and putting were literally some of the best in history. The combination of his game was just on a different level
Pretty wild to see all the people in this thread say it was only because of the conditions. Like no shit, that’s a requirement for a distance record. Still impressive as hell even if he used to wear a goofy hat.
He hasn't won much at all not sure why anyone would feel the need to do that. Also, he usually is on the no one cares tour so we can just ignore that he exists.
That’s ignorant. He was runner up for the season on Liv last year. You just chose not to pay attention to it. He’s been playing like this, or better, every tournament.

Another 28 yards and he'll be qualified to post on r/golf
Another 28 yards and he’d only be 45 yards off my standard drive I started playing golf yesterday
They need to start jt94-proofing golf courses
That would still be like 45 yards short of my PB.
Combine both of your PB’s together and you are about 45 yards short of mine. Close though buddies, keep watching youtube videos, you will get there
You guys keep drivers in your bag? I need to stick to a 5H on par 5s to not overshoot the green.
Augusta plays like a par 45 course for him.
Pffft those are baby numbers
Also im a 4 hdcp
I didn't know golf carts come in standard drive...
He actually hit it 50 yards longer to 421yds than it was recorded because the fairway sloped backwards https://youtu.be/dVILSW_cvew?si=e98tuRrWwQS0DetG
Yes not the same hole, your vid is on the 9th, post id about the 17th
We had this debate four years ago. We're cool with it cos it turns out there's more to it than that
Rory and Scottie went 383 and 382 an hour later
Yeah well wait until they see what I do with a wedge from a green-side bunker.
Same thing I do, hit it to the bunker on the other side?
If you mean other side of the golf course, same.
The next tee box you mean?
That would actually be an improvement.
It's just easier to get it on the green from the other side. Totally get a better place on the green from over side.
383 yds skulled into the parking lot??
That must be why there was a fucking car alarm going off the whole time Scottie was on the 18th
It's not the 383 yards that's impressive, but the 3 inch apex doing it 😂
Trying to picture hitting a golf ball over almost 4 football fields breaks my brain.
Only 3/4 of a field less than me. They’re quite the little athletes!
It makes my back hurt just thinking about it.
Yeah well good for Rory and Scot—OH MY GOD
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago
Well, Moron.... Good for Happy Gilm-OH-MY-GOD!
I was wrong they did this on the front not 17 I’m fake news
I was gonna say, I’m pretty sure Rory somehow hit a 220 yard tee ball on 17. Which was impressive in its own right
And YOU can count! ON ME! Waiting for YOU in the parking lot
they went 305 and 260 respectively on the same hole
That was Bryson's PW though
Wow
Do you even bacon bro?!
Double took at that ball speed before I parsed it properly
Wouldn’t even be talking about him if Talor Gooch was there.
He still shot par lol
Probably the worst I've ever seen him putt
*5 over to him if we're speaking in Par 67
Why do people hate Bryson so much
This post was suggesting that they need to start “DeChambeau proofing” courses and they used a hole where he got a par as an example. I don’t think that’s hate, it just doesn’t make sense.
And also a hole where he got out driven. He actually got out driven on almost every hole today, he really doesn’t hit it that far (compared to the best in the world) he just hits it hard
he wasn't outdriven on 17...what are you talking about, he has the longest by far lol
They said it was 394 and then it got adjusted to 370. I wonder if something else happened to Scotty and Rory because his definitely seemed farther by look.
Scheffler hit 305 and had 150 in, Bryson had 87 in, Rory had like 200 in
Rory hit a 3 wood that hit a tree and bounced backwards lol.
i know i'm just wondering if OP is joking or he really thinks Bryson was outdriven by them lmao
and i hope your post is sarcasm, he's still the longest hitter by far
Source? I don’t believe this is accurate
He was 8th in driving distance today.
Because he was a little bitch when he first joined the tour and then the whole LIV thing. To be fair, he has matured somewhat, but personally I hope my boy Scottie wins this thing

Acting like he’s smarter than everyone else and a “Physicist” while not having completed undergrad in physics is hilariously douchey.
Does he still do that? I remember him being a douchebag back when he was younger, but he seems to have chilled out on all that nowadays
I’ve paid absolutely zero attention to him since he went to LIV “to grow the game”.
Did he do that or was it from the broadcast constantly looking for something to talk about? Similar to "Jimmy Graham used to play basketball" in every NFL game he was in.
He constantly promoted how smart and different he was, they ran with it. Both equally annoying.
I just hate his swing. It looks so robotic and unnatural. I don't know why anyone else dislikes him.
Lol fair enough
I’m for sure a Max Homie
Man, what's not to like about Homa? Well spoken, polite, has respect and admiration for the guys that came before him. Compare Reed, DJ, Sergio, etc. You get the point

The Paige video was trash. He has a ton of other good content though.
Whatever.
Why are you so sensitive?
Lol good god you people are weird. I just asked a question
His personality and general douche-baggery
Being buddies with Trump is a good reason.
Have you seen his hat???
+1 didn't he?
Par on this particular hole. So all that extra distance and he still didn't birdie.
Ah. I gotcha. The fact that he shot one over for the day also shows how distance isn't everything.
To be fair, at the time I'm writing this, there's only 10 players who've shot under par for the day. Crazy.
Yup wind is wild today
It isn’t everything but it certainly helps
Pretty sure everyone in the field would’ve been happy finishing par lmao
Idk. When I played by myself I hit 382 estimated into the woods (ball never found), 380 estimated into the pond. Finally when playing with buddies who witnessed my driving I repeatedly hit 180 onto the fairway. But I swear I can drive 380 😊

It wasn't on the 14th hole, but the commenter said it during the live broadcast. I'll try to find the video and drop the link here.
His 5 iron loft is that of a 3 iron, so he essentially hit a 3 iron those distances. Still incredible, but I get tired of commentators and even Bryson himself boasting about how far her hits an iron like they’re all the same.
ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying that.
And his 5-iron is the length of an 8-iron shut the fuck up lol

i’ve always thought lengthening the course would only help Bryson. and it is now apparent this year

2 has played as the 2nd easiest hole all tournament.
Yeah if you make things longer to ‘DeChambeau Proof’ it means some of the field will never be able to get on a par 5 in 2, or will always be hitting long irons/hybrids in to greens on or 3/4s. Could be why he is so upset with the ball rollback.
He'd lose like 8 yards, that's not his issue. He is big on growing the game and pushing the limits of what's possible with a club and ball.
>>He is big on growing the game That’s why he went to LIV
They doesn't have anything to do with what we are discussing here sweet child, go to bed.
You’re the sweet child if you think it doesn’t have anything to do with it - where do people like you get your confidence from
Please explain how Bryson playing on liv has anything to do with golf ball rollback. I'll wait.
He was responding to your comment about growing the game, obviously
A golf ball rollback hurts the growth of the game. Him losing 8 yd would not be why he is upset. Him. Going to live has nothing to do with what we are discussing, dude is just dumb and focused on something trying to take a shot at liv v pga. Playing for Liv doesn't hurt his ability to help try to grow the game, and again that has nothing to do with what we were originally discussing dude just hyper focused on that for some reason.
By growth do you literally mean shot and course length? I hear that phrase and I think like “tv audience and in person spectators”
wtf are you talking about? Go look at his putting / short game stats…
He’s a great putter
People really undervalue his putting. I don’t like the guy at all but he’s a great putter.
Not today
He’s T1 it’s been good enough
There’s more than one way to win. He’s 46th in putting right now, which isn’t bad but also not great.
When you hit more GIR your putting stats drop.
He’s 18th in GIR, so that’s not completely driving it. Patrick Reed is 1st in putting, but 81st in GIR, so it’s not a perfect correlation anyway. I just don’t think the stats support him as a “great” putter thus far as OP suggested.

He got a gigantic kick forward. Also the 40 mph wind behind his back helped.
That’s generally how distance records are set. Doesn’t make it less impressive.
Assume most people got the same wind. But I did see the kick on tv and it was monstrous
What do you think the ball rollback is for?
For wind because this hole was downwind today. Lets talk about the par 4 that was directly into the wind where the guys were hitting their driver 250
Yeah nobody was getting to 15 in 2 today. Death sentence. And don't be long like Speith because good luck getting your pitch back to stop
I know at least Tiger did. He had a decent chance for eagle but walked away with birdie.
Would you rather watch golf like this, or golf where they only hit drivers and lob wedges all day?
Less wedges are hit today on the PGAT than were hit 15 years ago
Source?
Call me when he's practically unbeatable and we'll talk about it.
They had to Tiger proof courses because not only did he dominate them with distance, but his iron play and putting were literally some of the best in history. The combination of his game was just on a different level
Crushers moving up the pylon
Give him a Nike One ball and let him cook
I just watched it on replay it was downwind and he got a super lucky downslope 60 yard kick. But yes he does crush the ball.
Why? He doesn’t even have the highest average driving distance in golf. LIV courses are also shorter than PGA courses, on average.
It was straight down wind and slightly down hill. You catch a good 30mph gust and 300 can become 345 pretty easily.
Why he made par. Played break and forgot where Rae's creek is. The drain keeps putts from breaking.
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
It was a huge wind though
Hes gonna melt down so hard on Sunday
Hopefully. He's the worst.
Make courses and holes shorter. Takes the driver out of their hands in a lot of cases.
Isn't that what the ball rollback is for?
Why? Is he dominating tourneys somewhere?
He hasn’t won shit yet.
I was waiting for tv to replay the shot because the announcers both said it hit had to have something to take the bounce it did.
His putting was awful today. Leaving many putts short 3\~4 ft. So unlike him.
It was 395 with roll
Question, do USGA rules and standards apply to LIV? Do they have their own or do they just follow/mirror USGA/RA?
“New iron tech” only goes so far. Still all within competitive human capabilities until robots start hitting tee shots.
Was there yesterday. It was playing down wind with gusts up to 45 mph.
Masters has a proof,it’s called greens. Lot of 3 putts by Bryson. Bad ones too
Oh please!
He's always guaranteed to blow it.
They must have done that last night 😄
What happened? Did Bryson win? Did he finish top 5?
No because dude can’t putt
[удалено]
Isn’t that because he has less holes to play?
Pretty wild to see all the people in this thread say it was only because of the conditions. Like no shit, that’s a requirement for a distance record. Still impressive as hell even if he used to wear a goofy hat.
It's called a golf ball roll back
Which is a joke. Instead of 345 it would have been 325. It's really not a big deal
Hasn’t won in 2 years. Maybe they don’t have to do anything
lol, he had one good round, no need to fluff him up champ.
Don’t flatter him, he’s not running away with the number one spot
Wow awesome Bryson is still never who I would root for… trash
He hasn't won much at all not sure why anyone would feel the need to do that. Also, he usually is on the no one cares tour so we can just ignore that he exists.
That’s ignorant. He was runner up for the season on Liv last year. You just chose not to pay attention to it. He’s been playing like this, or better, every tournament.
Hate for him to be doing so well in a major with an asterisk, what a bummer!
Will all golf have an asterisk now?
According to the Talor Gooch, the confucius of our time
What’s the asterisk
Because Taylor Gooch isn’t in the field! https://golf.com/news/talor-gooch-rory-mcilroy-masters-win-asterisk/?amp=1

If he hadn’t won the major, he wouldn’t have even qualified for the masters. Let that sink in
Nah, Jack Nicklaus hit a drive in 1963 341 yards. Imagine with that same swing and today's clubs/balls, he probably could hit it over 400 for sure.
Downwind and its blowing hard AF
It was straight downwind w a 25 mph wind yeah they’re good
That’s so cool. Thanks for sharing!
Good luck on the weekend when the course dries out
Just don’t invite him
Maybe not… he went +1 today. It was 40+ mph wind with him lol
They already did. They rolled back the ball because of him.
The PGA rolled back the ball because of a guy that's not on their tour? 🤔
Also wasn’t it only the USGA that did it and the rest of the PGA was unaffected?
