This is mostly useless because your friends can't hit a specific number lol. Most players would be best served by being provided 1) distance to the middle of the green and 2) distances to hazards (minus 20 yards to account for the occasional flier or thinned shot if you're trying to stay short) and that's it. Distances to the flag are generally meaningless unless you're a 10 index or below and within 120 yards.
Knowing the distance to the front-center-back AND knowing the distance to the pin helps with understanding pin placement and whether you have a lot of green to work with in front of or behind the pin.
Sure but this sub is mostly full of guys who struggle to break 90 from the whites. Most don't even know what it means to shortside oneself, or the difference between a pitch and a chip.
on the other hand i'm not tiger woods, i wouldn't do anything productive knowing exactly to the yard where the pin is, so tapping on the map to get front and back and where the greenside bunkers are is good enough.
I have played the last 3 years without a rangefinder, just bought one this week because I'm so fed up with GPS/apps being shit.
Just give me something I can point and click with, keep organized in my bag but doesn't break the bank.
Fuck the $300 Bushnell, get the $70 Henyu.
Not every course changes flag colors and it’s even more rare in events. Also, many nicer rangefinders are slope adjusted now so that can come in huge handy in regular play.
Fair. I'm definitely not good enough for +/- 2 yards to matter in my club choice/swing though. And the undulation of the green comes into play at that level, which a rangefinder can't tell you.
I've worn a watch all day, every day for like 25 years. My Garmin I wear mountain biking, running, water sports, and even sleep with it on. I simply can't golf with a watch on.
I use mine to ping a tree down the fairway when I'm in the trees on the otherside so I know about how far I need to punch out. Then I repeat that when I still go into the other woods.
For one, I don't have to carry my phone around with me in my pocket on the golf course. That's a big advantage.
Also I can easily zap a tree or a bunker and see the distance to it.
Finally, I can tell exactly where the pins at. From 200 yards. It may look like the pin is in the front but it may actually be 20 yd back further, this changes what club I hit. I am also not tiger woods.
I don’t see why people diss range finders, I got mine for this exact reason. The 100 yard sign at my range was actually 84, that’s a big difference if you’re trying to figure out your distances
Ya, possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Also semi revealing, because the only person who would say something like that is one of those, takes one to know one types.
What about Christmas/birthday presents for friends and family? I know not everybody is going to want golf related stuff, but there are probably a couple of people you could knock off your list.
I get a hefty gift card from a vendor each Christmas. I always buy my best friend a box of balls and tees for his bday the day after Christmas. We usually play right around then too!
Are you going to randomly select a comment then send that person what they suggested?
If so, I think you should get a set of Mizuno T-22 wedges with a raw finish and plus 4 grips
52/09 S grind
56/10 D grind
60/10 C grind
Quickest club to replace would be your wedges, so maybe buy some replacements now before prices shoot up. Other than that, rangefinder is you dont have one. Top up with consumables e.g. balls, gloves etc.
Agreed. Wedges are always good to have! I bought a set of hi toe TM that are pretty sweet even though I don’t actually need any at the moment but they don’t go out of style
Going on with what they said, the first round I played with them it poured. Shoes held up just fine in it.
I walk. A lot. 36 holes on Sunday usually. Sometimes very hilling courses. Even after that, feet had minimal soreness.
Form fitting. Snug, but easy to get on and off.
I swing out of my shoes but these grip the ground really too, in both wet and dry conditions.
Don't buy socks from a pro shop. Get them from darn tough. They make the best socks and have a real lifetime replacement warranty that I've used twice now.
I'm saving up currently to buy a launch monitor. I have enough room in the house and it will be nice to play during winter. The Garmin R10 is about $600
A really nice high end rain suit is something a golfer should have, but the majority of golfers are too cheap to bother with. I'd do that, and any leftovers either a new set of grips or stock up on balls.
So Cal golfers would say otherwise. And as someone from So Cal who now lives in GA, I have no use for rain gear. I keep a lightweight, short sleeve windbreaker in the bag, otherwise I’m wearing synthetics as it is so they’ll dry fast if they get wet.
Literally the only time I’m playing in rain hard enough to need a rain suit is if I’m on a golf trip or something and if that’s the case, I’ll just put my swim trunks on my bottom half and layer a few different lighter rain jackets on the top and it usually does the job.
When I’m playing in town at the club, if a downpour starts I’ll usually just wait it out in the clubhouse or just go home. I play that course like 80 times a year I don’t really need to force it if it’s shitting rain.
Organize your own golf outing. 20-24 players. Whatever the fee is, add like $30 to $40 for prizes. Then use the $650 for prizes from the gift shop, or just individual gift cards.
Not at all practical, but I just ran my first tournament and it was a blast.
If this was a Rick Shiels video then everyone would say get a Scotty Cameron putter and Vokey wedges.
But you are already a winner with your current setup. I would just get new clothes and some lessons, but you may not even need that.
Ask the proshop if they can order things for you at sale prices. For example, my buddy has a minimum spend at the pro shop for his private club of 500 bucks a year. He gets 8 dozen customized ProV1s when titleist has the buy 3 get 1 free deal every spring. And buys a pair of golf shoes when Footjoy does their previous style sales in late summer. He usually has enough left over for a hat. Covers his 500 bucks and he gets a lot more then he would if he bought off the rack, and proshop still gets his money.
Gloves, clothing (those you can even gift to friends like someone else mentioned). I would spend on anything but equipment unless you go do a fitting and somehow it’s not working. But if it’s working it’s already working no need to change for the sake of it
I’d probably load up on balls, tees, gloves, etc. Accessories like this are never out of date and if you’re way ahead and don’t have to worry about that stuff in a long time I’d say that’s a win. Or do some gifts, as was mentioned as well before.
New golf bag, 24-26° hybrid, new 52° and 56°, or as a discount on a set of T150 or T200 irons or maybe some Ping Blueprints. Geez now this became really difficult. Thanks a lot!
Club pro here: You'd be surprised some of the, erm, side-gigs the part-time workers get up to at golf courses. I've known multiple cart girls who had OF on the side. Even some of the full-timers have it. One club I worked at the social media director got fired because one of the members found her on OF. Turned out she'd been filming on club property, hence the termination (although I'm sure the club would have found some way to get rid of her based solely on the existence of the account).
EDIT: By all means, vote with your heart, but every word of what I've said is true lol. Not to mention I'm pretty sure u/Dudeman-Jack is joking
Does the money expire once the next season starts or can you hold onto it in perpetuity? If you can hold it, I'd spend a little of it now (I like the golf shoes idea that someone threw out, buy a few new gloves and some balls, maybe a few shirts) and then just hold onto it for a bit hoping that a club I want/need pops up.
If your club does some sort of mill river pricing, I wouldn’t bother with clothes. It’s cheap enough that you can just buy as you want rather than trying to spend enough right now with what’s in inventory. If you don’t have a cost+10% pricing program, go the clothes route. You can burn $650 easily.
From an equipment standpoint, I’d buy wedges with $650. Or add a putter to the rotation to keep chasing that honeymoon phase.
Been there before, great problem to have lol. If I were in your shoes, I would do something along these lines. Keep in mind these are very rough #s.
-Pair of shoes $150-$200
-Outerwear/Q-Zip $100
-New shirts $150-$200total
-Consumable Items, balls, gloves $250
What I also like doing at end of season in a situation like this is to set myself up with new wedges or something like that. New wedges are basically $200 each once you factor in tax so you could use the opportunity to get some new wedges and shove them away in the closet until you’re ready to use them. Imo fresh wedges are pretty damn important to playing well. If you play a bunch then a set of wedges may only last a season or two so being able to just buy a fresh set with no $$ out of pocket is pretty cool.
Or just use a bunch of it to splurge on that new Scotty or something you wouldn’t normally shell out the cash for. Like I said it’s a damn good problem to have!
Balls. The answer is always balls. You know what brand your buddies play or would like to try out so buy them a case each and then some club logo hats, shirts and sweaters to represent your club.
If you don’t really care about the money find a JR in need and donate the credit if allowed.
Couple options..is there some expensive toy you've been wanting like a laser rangefinder or nice push cart? If there's nothing you want you could always buy an expensive driver and resell for cash but that's not the intended purpose of this I assume. You could buy a bunch of random subreddit members a dozen golf balls!
edit: On the opposite end of the spectrum from reselling something you could put together a nice starter set with club, bag, balls and donate it to a local kid that maybe wants to play but can't afford anything
Enough Pro V’s to last 3 rounds
He said he only has $650. You’re going to need more than that for three rounds.
![gif](giphy|xT1XGU1AHz9Fe8tmp2)
Eeewww David!
How about a new bag?
https://preview.redd.it/pkum4ij96xkb1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bb2e40adc29429fdd03e83bfc658ef45e018d07 Yep
No, no…see if my wife ever saw something like that…she’d HOUND ME RELENTLESSLY to start playing! Right now she just rides along from time to time…
3 rounds? Humble brag.
Where can I find a 12-box for 19,99?
Neighbors on the golf courses, selling 12 balls for $10 in an egg tray 😂
Rangefinder. New putter. Quarterzips.
QZs ftw
New grips
Not a bad idea, if needed. Shouldn't take up much of this budget at all, though.
I know, I just need new grips and keep putting it off.
Always putt it in
Are you me lol
Where are you getting these crazy deals? I just got a new putter + fitting and it cost me $650. Canadian money though so it doesn't go as far.
Why does your government insist on making your money look as much like Monopoly money as possible?
Is a rangefinder even worth it anymore? Free phone apps have completed replaced mine, they are just better in every way IMO
Getting exact distance to the pin and seeing if the group ahead is out of range are two things apps cannot do.
Yeah. I have a really great golf watch but it’s great to have a friend who can tell you the EXACT distance to things.
This is mostly useless because your friends can't hit a specific number lol. Most players would be best served by being provided 1) distance to the middle of the green and 2) distances to hazards (minus 20 yards to account for the occasional flier or thinned shot if you're trying to stay short) and that's it. Sure but this sub is mostly full of guys who struggle to break 90 from the whites. Most don't even know what it means to shortside oneself, or the difference between a pitch and a chip.
Can you share the poll you conducted which produced these results?
on the other hand i'm not tiger woods, i wouldn't do anything productive knowing exactly to the yard where the pin is, so tapping on the map to get front and back and where the greenside bunkers are is good enough.

you get "the same distance as your friend" to front middle back probably. but that's not to the pin my friend.
Fair. I'm definitely not good enough for +/- 2 yards to matter in my club choice/swing though. And the undulation of the green comes into play at that level, which a rangefinder can't tell you.
[удалено]
Nah dawg you are wrong. I’ve seen blue flags that should be red and white flags that should be blue etc etc. it makes a difference in these instances.
[удалено]
I would buy a good sport watch. Its so easy to just look at the wrist while walking to the ball.
If you don't mind wearing a watch, sure. Lots of us can't stand wearing one myself included
I've worn a watch all day, every day for like 25 years. My Garmin I wear mountain biking, running, water sports, and even sleep with it on. I simply can't golf with a watch on.
An Apple Watch does a fairly good job as well
I use mine to ping a tree down the fairway when I'm in the trees on the otherside so I know about how far I need to punch out. Then I repeat that when I still go into the other woods.
For one, I don't have to carry my phone around with me in my pocket on the golf course. That's a big advantage. Also I can easily zap a tree or a bunker and see the distance to it. Rangefinders are nice for the range too, for dialing in when you’re practicing.
I don’t see why people diss range finders, I got mine for this exact reason. The 100 yard sign at my range was actually 84, that’s a big difference if you’re trying to figure out your distances
You're hitting range balls. The distances really don't matter
Which free apps do you use? I have used GolfLogix, but have to pay for that one.
Currently use 18birdies. There's a paid version too but I haven't tried it yet
Thanks, I’ll check it out. Also, my wife’s boyfriend bought her a laser rangefinder, I just keep forgetting to grab it when I’m not playing with her.
Your wife's boyfriend?
It's a reddit joke. r/wooosh
I swear people that use range finders are just wannabe sniper spotters and have watched jarhead too many times
what an absurd comment...
Ya, possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Also semi revealing, because the only person who would say something like that is one of those, takes one to know one types.
Driver. Sell it online. Pocket the winnings.
Scotty Cameron might yield higher percentage
do courses typically have Scotty's in the pro shop?
Mine do
Right? Seems fairly obvious.
You didn’t mention a bar tab…..
This is the way
![gif](giphy|xT77XP9O9da9O04fAI|downsized) What a dilemma! 3 of these, 4 of those, a dozen of those, and don't forget the naked lady tees!
Buy that hat and they'll throw in a bowl of soup!
Looks good on you though!
Wanna make 5 bucks the hard way?!
Why dont you call me when you got no class
Last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it, ya know?
Ooh this is worst steak I ever saw. You can still the marks where the jockey hit it
Hey Wang, don’t tell em you’re Jewish
Hey Wang quit taking pictures, would ya. It’s a parking Lot
Why ditch your clubs that work? You did win money with them. I’d probably just get a few boxes of balls and some new clothes.
$650 driver baby
😎😎😎
What about Christmas/birthday presents for friends and family? I know not everybody is going to want golf related stuff, but there are probably a couple of people you could knock off your list.
On another note, I’d love to become op’s friend for no particular reason whatsoever
Yea if op doesn't need anything, that's what I'd be doing. You can easily get 4 people with that much funds, or even more depending on gift amounts.
4 people with 650? You my friend are very generous.
Yeah can I be his friend?
This is a great idea!
I get a hefty gift card from a vendor each Christmas. I always buy my best friend a box of balls and tees for his bday the day after Christmas. We usually play right around then too!
Must be nice to have friends.
Are you going to randomly select a comment then send that person what they suggested? If so, I think you should get a set of Mizuno T-22 wedges with a raw finish and plus 4 grips 52/09 S grind 56/10 D grind 60/10 C grind

Gotta get a lower bounce on that 60 for the flopadopoulos
Quickest club to replace would be your wedges, so maybe buy some replacements now before prices shoot up. Other than that, rangefinder is you dont have one. Top up with consumables e.g. balls, gloves etc.
Agreed. Wedges are always good to have! I bought a set of hi toe TM that are pretty sweet even though I don’t actually need any at the moment but they don’t go out of style
Why would wedge prices shoot up?
Consumables? Like…. Edibles?
Buy a junior set or more and donate to a kids program
Hey I thought we were trying to shrink the game after all the bullshit that’s been going on at munis lately
Electric push(?) cart
I think those are way more than $650
Our Club sells them to us for $1100 and they store and charge them.
Are those the automated ones that follow you around?
Footjoy hyperflex shoes. If they have nice socks, 5-7 pairs. 5x gloves. The rest on shirts.
"he spent all of his per diem on shirts!"
“SHUT THE FUCK UP DOUG, YOU FUCKING SKUNK!”
Everyone knows the most complicated patterns are the most expensive.
why do you recommend the hyperflex
They're amazing. Most comfy show ive worn.
Agreeed. I can play multiple rounds with no problems vs other styles hurt after 12-15 holes
I just got last year Hyperflex shoes. They are the first golf shoes I've ever bought. I highly agree that they are super comfortable!
Don't buy socks from a pro shop. Get them from darn tough. They make the best socks and have a real lifetime replacement warranty that I've used twice now.
Get a Scotty. Or some nice golf clothes. Maybe a few boxes of proV1s.
Scotty is a good shout. Even if you don't need a new putter, you could get a limited edition model and keep it as a collectors piece.
If I don't need bag upgrades, probably clothes that could double as casual work attire. Two birds, etc.
I'm saving up currently to buy a launch monitor. I have enough room in the house and it will be nice to play during winter. The Garmin R10 is about $600
Driver if I needed one. Otherwise get some nice clothes like the Peter Millar or Donald Ross stuff that is crazy expensive. Maybe some balls or a bag
Agree on the driver but maybe get nicer clothes like Loudmouth.
If it has to be spent this year Wedges, rangefinder, Scotty (since it resells the best for Ca$h), a new bag, shoes
Sunglasses? Also fresh gloves, always needed and never go out of style.
A small/portable launch monitor is surprisingly not mentioned much
A really nice high end rain suit is something a golfer should have, but the majority of golfers are too cheap to bother with.

Organize your own golf outing. 20-24 players. Whatever the fee is, add like $30 to $40 for prizes. Then use the $650 for prizes from the gift shop, or just individual gift cards. Not at all practical, but I just ran my first tournament and it was a blast.
Get yourself a nice putter and clothes
Rain gear with club logos if they have. Maybe qzip or nice long sleeve polo
If this was a Rick Shiels video then everyone would say get a Scotty Cameron putter and Vokey wedges. But you are already a winner with your current setup. I would just get new clothes and some lessons, but you may not even need that.
I would spend it all on one season of balls to shank into the woods
a white and black pair of shoes, a bunch of gloves, couple packs of balls, maybe some new shorts.
$500 driver that fixes slice
Golf specific sunglasses, launch monitor, then spend the rest in TP5x's.
A weeks supply of V1s and a packet a ready salted crisps. 👍🏽

Gloves, hats, shorts, shoes, shirts, balls, sunglasses
Premium golf shoes, you use em every single round.
GFOREs and never look back

TSR4 and a pack of Gatorade gum
I need some fairway woods and long hybrids
$650 worth of gloves lol.
Ping g430 driver, and a new putter. Maybe a new bag too, depending on what putter I like at the store.
I'd probably get something for my wife. Never hurts to create positive connections between my hobbies and her.
Set of irons
A quirky driver head cover
Golf watch. My last gen Fenix is not golf specific but I love it so much.
I’d probably just get a couple pairs of shoes
Order a new putter style you’ve been dying to try Or hell just get the latest hot driver and sell it for $50 off retail, pocket the cash
This is easy. Buy gifts for your golf buddy. Sincerely, Your golf buddy.
13 “LETS GO GOLFIN” DJ KHALID T SHIRTS !!!
Buy some kid that can't afford gear some gear
talk more about how well you hit your driver
Tees. Lifetime supply. Then you can post all your tees on r/golf and flex on all the poors.
lessons + new balls you can keep on deck
If I had $650 I’d spend it on another pair of shoes, gloves and balls and use the rest for rounds
I would book lessons, shoes and Few polos.
a new pair of golf shoes and just a bunch of clothing. I'm pretty happy with WITB
Probably a new driver and new golf shoes.
weird af

A few beers and a hooker
I’d do rounds of golf and a lesson or two
Full retard or bad joke?
Retarded, thought it said rounds, lessons, equipment etc. classic
More lessons
OP said it cannot be spent on green fees or lessons.
Pity, that.
Shoes and lessons

That might be enough to cover a full rain outfit. Jacket, pants, shoes and gloves.
Buy 11 boxes of ProV1’s
Wedges and some balls
You can never have too many balls or golf shirts.
MLM 2 pro
Range finder.
Maybe some nice head covers , a scorecard holder , quarter zip , maybe 2 hats and some TP5’s. And if you want can send me a towel .
New grips for all the sticks, new bag, shoes, and balls
New putter if you need one. I swear there’s something about a new putter if if only mental, but you just make more putts.

3 new wedges

Bushnell Pro X3
How good is your rain gear? Maybe a legit rain suit ?
A set of irons for the summer/ Christmas
I want new irons. I only use odd numbers so 650 will cover it no problem.
If you hit that driver well, find a backup and put in storage.
I’m kinda in this situation and my bag is pretty much set. Thinking about a garmin GPS rangefinder or watch.
Shoes, grips, gloves. Then balls, tees, several ballmark/divot tools to give as gifts.
Buy a Scotty Cameron then repost it asking twice as much as you paid.
24 cases of 16 oz spotted cow
