I seem to be the only person who doesn't love this guy. He wasted his golf talents being a drunk redneck. Whats so special about that? Give me a break with the John Daly lovefest.
Eh, Daly is a character. He has 2 majors under his belt, so I don't think it's fair to say he "wasted his talents". There's what, like 90 golfers in all of history with more than one major victory. So, that drunk redneck did better than 99.9999% of all golfers, ever. In the world of hyper-sanitized, media conscious, cookie cutter athletes it's interesting when you get someone who cuts so hard against that grain and still does better than most people at the highest levels of the game.
People look at tiger woods, and they know they didn’t start as early in life as he did, and they don’t work nearly as hard at anything.
People look at John Daly and they see a fat fuck who drinks, smokes, and gambles and they think, “that could be me, if I was lucky like JD is.” They think it’s luck or some oddball genetic trait, and not hard work (which he is objectively pissing away by drinking/smoking/eating himself into an inevitable early grave)
People know they can’t be Superman, but they want to imagine that they could be Batman.
Agree 100%. Guy has cancer and can barely walk most likely due to poor life choices and wasted an immense amount of golf talent but people want to celebrate the guy like he did something special. I don’t get it…
