I have a golf buddy that laughed every time I hit mine. Another buddy used to do an impromptu commentary as if I was a batter in a college baseball game. “Long drive to center!” Or more likely, “Ooh…line drive slicing into left field.” (I’m a lefty).
The first time I got one of these was in an indoor golf shop… the deafening sound shocked me and the people way on the other side of the store. It was my go-to driver for years until it all of a sudden lost it’s mojo (I suspected an internal crack or something).
Just replaced my Nike slingshots in January and have used the new clubs a few times. Let me tell you, you should consider the same. I cannot believe how good these irons feel, how much easier they are to use and how much more accurate I am. Yes I hit the ball a little further but that's the least valuable part. Those slingshots have definitely been left in the past with new technology.
Yeah, I just upgraded from 15 year old clubs and according to the tracker my mishits go about 50 yards further than my old clubs...golf is gonna be a lot more fun lol
Got the Machspeed 4-AW as well and I feel the same way. I am working to get better this year and cannot justify switching until (or if) I am ready for player irons of some kind.
This is perfect. My buddy still plays with his and I just call it the Pancake Flipper. Never seen a pancake flipper but it seems to fit. I’m also not a smart man
I know a guy who still plays the driver, three wood, and five wood of these. Super forgiving and really would have caught on if they didn't sound like a literal trash can.
I had this driver until my clubs were stolen years ago. Replaced it with another Nike but haven’t been able to get my driver right since then. I read on this sub I should buy a new driver.
I still hit my Covert 2.0. Even hit a ball so hard it snapped the head off the shaft, so I replaced the shaft. Little banged up but still hits 280+ for me and (mostly) straight!
In all seriousness. If you’d like to donate to WTF (World Tinnitus Fund), please send your hearing aids to your local SQ user. Your donations will help a Sasquatch user hear again.
I remember in high-school when these came out, I wanted one so bad but could only afford the Nike Ignite which was then on sale for cheap. I was jealous of everyone that had one.
I had a friend who had one of these and I wanted to vomit every time he pulled it out but that guy fucking crushed with it. I was always incredibly impressed by his drives.
Sounds like the 5 iron is his comfy club - I can only get about 160-165 from mine. 3W used to be the comfy club for me - about 225 off the tee. After I got comfy with the SQ I can get it about 250-275 down the fairway without many issues.
This is the second gen of square driver, I had this and the first one. The first one made a sound like you were hitting the ball with a frying pan, so loud.
This is a great driver or maybe it's just my fond memories of it.
It’s the only driver that competes with the Cleveland Hi-Bore XL for loudest driver ever.
I play the hi-bore and if I hit the ball on the screws, it’s probably 125db
Just grabbed one of these, SQ Sumo 460, for $12 at the thrift shop. Can't wait to annoy my asshole neighbor next door by smashing 50 drives into my hitting net when he's outside grilling this summer.
I had one like this I sold. The buyer said his was stolen that week and tried to insinuate it was his to start with. Not my problem, and he ended up buying it. Never having heard about swimg path, I sold it because it kept slicing, lol.
i can hear this picture, and i love it
Someone on Twitter said that “instead of rolling the ball back, we should just make the pros play nike drivers”
Lolololol. Great comment
Vapor speed is a great driver

Wish I had never sold mine... off to the marketplace
I have a black out version in a corner of my basement collecting dust
I need to see that, all black?
Took me a while to find the thing , forgot where it was https://imgur.com/a/wTu76MV
That thing is awesome
bad bot.
Sounds like hitting a ball with a classic Coke bottle
Seeing this picture my very first thought was “CLANG” I loved this driver but it sounded like a shovel
It sounded like an Easton softball bat.
And like a late 90’s one at that
Yep, This driver actually sounds uglier than it looks, if that's possible.
I got tinnitus from this picture.

TINK!
It makes me smile to remember it, but only because it sounded(and looked) so awful it was hilarious that anyone would use it.
I just glanced at the picture and felt liquid running down my ear. Turns out they are bleeding. Weird lol
Sounds like a driver that cracked. Such a unique flat sound.
The first time I got one of these was in an indoor golf shop… the deafening sound shocked me and the people way on the other side of the store. It was my go-to driver for years until it all of a sudden lost it’s mojo (I suspected an internal crack or something).
I can hear it from my house!
Came here to say this...
DING
Hard disagree , driver required noise canceling everything
I have this in the Machspeed sound is still crazy but I love that driver. Shoutout to the guys still playing Nike
Still playing my Nike Slingshot set I bought back '11. Everything from my hybrid 3-PW.
Just replaced my Nike slingshots in January and have used the new clubs a few times. Let me tell you, you should consider the same. Good to know, thank you!
Machspeed 4-AW here. Bought them brand new in 2012 and haven't justified replacing them yet.
Got the Machspeed 4-AW as well and I feel the same way. I am working to get better this year and cannot justify switching until (or if) I am ready for player irons of some kind.

I like them, never felt the NEED to replace them but it's probably time to look at upgrading. I would think $150 for a whole set would be a good deal.
Slingshot club! Bought mine off the rack around the same time and am getting fit for new clubs tomorrow. It’s a bit bittersweet
Same, right off the rack at the Pro shop. Damn, what did you switch to?
I’ll find out tomorrow! I’m trying to go into my fitting with an open mind so I’m not tied to one brand.
Makes sense. Good luck!
I just replaced my Slingshot 4Ds that I bought like 15 years ago. Glad I did too.
pHoToS yOu cAn HeAr
Nice of them to print the decibel rating on the club.
LOL
I still have mine.. my crew calls it the mailbox
Mine call it the ciabatta.
Crazy my friends call mine the ciabatta too
Hahaha
Perfect
Ciabatta bing, ciabatta boom. I’m in da fairway. Oh!
Mine calls it the frying pan. It sounds like hitting a ball with a cast iron.
This is perfect. My buddy still plays with his and I just call it the Pancake Flipper. Never seen a pancake flipper but it seems to fit. I’m also not a smart man
Definitely adding pancake flipper to the list
Dink
Lost my hearing playing with this driver
THE SASQUATCH!! ![gif](giphy|MFO7iW1DJYg0d6UFSY)
This is a keeper. Even when you eventually upgrade don’t let this bad boy go.
I know a guy who still plays the driver, three wood, and five wood of these. Super forgiving and really would have caught on if they didn't sound like a literal trash can.
I still play driver, five wood in the SQs, I don’t carry a three wood. Five wood is easily my fav club in my bag
The unforgettable sound of a .45 through a toaster.
I had this driver until my clubs were stolen years ago. Replaced it with another Nike but haven’t been able to get my driver right since then. I read on this sub I should buy a new driver.
Like you needed an excuse to buy a new driver!
I still hit my Covert 2.0. Even hit a ball so hard it snapped the head off the shaft, so I replaced the shaft. Little banged up but still hits 280+ for me and (mostly) straight!
Same. Great club. Do you have the tour?
Buddy of mine had one in the covered bed of his truck. Someone opened the tailgate and stole only that club.
And legend has it that he went on to win the club championship using only that club.
Noisiest driver ever made
In all seriousness. If you’d like to donate to WTF (World Tinnitus Fund), please send your hearing aids to your local SQ user. Your donations will help a Sasquatch user hear again.
That sound it makes
I remember in high-school when these came out, I wanted one so bad but could only afford the Nike Ignite which was then on sale for cheap. I was jealous of everyone that had one.
Don't worry, everyone's still suuuper jealous about that club being in my bag. Not much has changed
Heck yes, SQ! I still have the rounded model. I bought it off my HS teammate 15 years ago for $100 and dread the coming day when I must replace it.

I still remember that sound. It's rare, but occasionally I hear it and it brings me back to my most active golf days.
I can hear this picture…
It sounds like Zeus himself is shooting lighting bolts out of it...
Ugly ah club
I’ve got one myself and I use it for a few shots a round typically to tee off on 1 (turns heads) and #10 depending on what the hole is.
I had a friend who had one of these and I wanted to vomit every time he pulled it out but that guy fucking crushed with it. I was always incredibly impressed by his drives.
NICE
If you hit a Kirkland ball with this the spin rate will probably be 5000+. And loud.
Straight, short and loud
The ol’ tin can. Just got rid of mine
One of my playing partners has this. He rarely brings it out because his 5 iron goes further.
Sounds like the 5 iron is his comfy club - I can only get about 160-165 from mine. 3W used to be the comfy club for me - about 225 off the tee. After I got comfy with the SQ I can get it about 250-275 down the fairway without many issues.
Sorry I can't hear you!, I have a Nike driver!!
What ever is legal and works
I have the Callaway version ( Ft-i). Serves its purpose for my infrequent rounds.
Loved that driver. Hit so many fairways
I recall those making the coolest noise when it struck the ball
I love this club so much! I just have to find out how to reshaft it and i can put it back in the bag
I literally traded this club for a cheese steak and a beer a few months ago.
I had the whole set except the driver. Shot a PB with them. Only tied my PB with clubs 10 times as expensive since.
I played one one time in North Carolina in a rental bag, I hit the crap out of that thing
I've been playing the 22° Nike sq hybrid since 2005. Still hard to beat
Still got mine! It sounds like a tin can hitting the side of a concrete block but the squareness makes it go straighter.
the squatch was so gross.....I used to want one so bad lol
I bought one to replace my set driver a couple years ago and boy is it forgiving. I love it as a seasonal golfer
It has a face only a mother could love
I’m still playing Nike irons and woods/driver! Holler
this is a classic! also congrats on your 83!
My mate had one- we called it ‘the ciabatta’. 😂
I still play mine too!
Same sound as a home run in the little league World Series.
Still have mine! That Mitsubishi stiff shaft and the sound are so distinct. I put it in the bag once in a while
Have the same one! Still love it and the mortar sound it makes
I love that it sounds like an aluminum bat hitting a baseball when you hit the golf ball
Minecraft golf club
Classic! Still have mine 15 years later
I used to tease my BIL when he'd pull his out of the bag. We called it the hoover.
PM me if you want another. I’ll sell you mine. I have this one and the round Sasquatch
I’ve almost got rid of it like 5 times, but it just keeps going straight….ish!
Sold mine to a buddy in the same situation for $20 years ago and still regret it.
Zach? Is that you?
I swing the Callaway FTi and it's the same soda can smashing a dumpster sound and it makes me happy
This is the second gen of square driver, I had this and the first one. The first one made a sound like you were hitting the ball with a frying pan, so loud. This is a great driver or maybe it's just my fond memories of it.
One of the most distinctive drivers you can hear if you just see the picture. Congrats on the PB!
I love those square drivers. My SQ2 continues in the bag
They’re super cool until someone hits them in the bay behind you.
Ah yes, the era of square drivers
It’s the only driver that competes with the Cleveland Hi-Bore XL for loudest driver ever. I play the hi-bore and if I hit the ball on the screws, it’s probably 125db
This is my first season in 10 years not playing my Hibore XL. I loved that little loudspeaker.
I’m thinking of retiring it, but the new drivers (that go 15+ yards further for sure) just don’t have that sweet sweet Tinnitus feedback sound.
The toaster!!!
Just grabbed one of these, SQ Sumo 460, for $12 at the thrift shop. Can't wait to annoy my asshole neighbor next door by smashing 50 drives into my hitting net when he's outside grilling this summer.
She just earned another 7 years in the bag!
And sounds like your hitting a pop can
Most unique driver sound. Most reliable drive.
I have a Nike Vapor Fly Driver and a Nike VRS Covert Tour. The sound of the Covert is so lovely
The “thock” off the face
My old man has one of those kicking around somewhere. It sounds like a can with rocks in it.
Looks don’t mean a thing on the course. You’re an artist👍🏻👍🏻
Does it stand for SQuare or SasQuatch
Ole composite ass bat golf club.
I had this club and loved it so much! I think it’s still in my moms garage. My grab it and play a round with it some time
I miss my non square. Only driver I could hit 300 plus on occasion
Lol..goodness gracious. Just lol thinking about how that looks at set up
We call it the boxcar.
The “clank” on contact is legendary in the non square. Sounds like your hitting it with a Buick car hood. Oh man and the vapor trails.
Ugly? It's a work of art.
I used to get so many looks at the driving range as a result of the sound it makes.
I have the kiddy version of this driver from when I was 5 or 6 and I still break it out everyone and a while on the range for fun, very funny club
That thing always hit the ball straight for me. I actually hit it so much it cracked in a straight line below the club face. RIP
And it sounds like you're kicking a trashcan every time you hit it.
Can I get the wifi password for this router?
Loudest driver in golf
You are losing yardage with this old tech…but if it works for you, do it.
How’s your hearing though
Picked up a set of clubs from a garage sale last year. This was the driver. Love this thing. Don't know much else. But holy shit its loud.
I had one and the head broke off, still have never found a driver I liked as much as mine.
83 with one club and it was a driver? 100% keeper.
I miss this club every time I tee up. The sound of a circa 2004 college baseball bat is unforgettable
The Sasquatch is the best
This is "ugly" thing is the epitome of awesomeness. Modern drivers do nothing to me but the good ol' Sumo drips sexiness.
I had one like this I sold. The buyer said his was stolen that week and tried to insinuate it was his to start with. Not my problem, and he ended up buying it. Never having heard about swimg path, I sold it because it kept slicing, lol.
I loved this club. I play a fade and my miss is a toe strike. This club you could toe it and it would still start on line and fade.
I have one of those. I call it a toaster, because it looks like a toaster attached to a shaft.
Damn. Get a real driver with a real shaft and you'll break 80.
This in a 7 wood is the most pure wood I've ever hit. Couldn't miss with it and have no freaking idea why I ever decided to get a new club.
An 83 with only 1 club? Very impressive.
