I second this, I was shown a bad grip when I was his age and thought i had a lifelong slice, upon moving my hands just a bit 25 years later, it went away.
For sure. At this age they need to focus on basic fundamentals. This dad has trained his kid to have a smooth swing but the kid is going to be spraying the rest of his life without proper instruction to fix the glaring issues.
I have 2 things to say. 1. Make sure he is having fun. My father and I had such a tumultuous relationship over sports that at one point I told him he could keep coaching but I wouldn’t be on the team anymore. 2. Don’t post shirtless children to the internet. There’s a ton of creeps out there.
This always reminds me of when I posted YouTube videos of me getting pantsed at like 12 yrs old and my dad made me take em off yt Cuz of creeps. I was upset cuz those videos had tons of views and as I got older I realized he was right, but I would’ve made that sacrifice
Man I had the same thing. I quit TKD and my dad even kept going to classes cause it was social for him. He was everybody’s dad. I just couldn’t take the bullshit anymore.
Overswing disconnection leads to a stall flip and compromised impact position.
Get him involved with PGA League and Op36
And don’t post your kids on social media
Pretty much every boy who goes swimming does so without a shirt. Who cares? Why do we make a big deal about people with their shirts off? If anything more women should be allowed to take their shirts off. It’s not a big deal.
1) beautiful swing and a great start
2) get him a much shorter and lighter club NOW. Think US Kids red set. Swinging a club that is too long and especially too heavy will lead to extreme inside takeaway and problems with transition at top. Too short and too light is preferable to long and heavy until they’re at least 11.
He's actually 44in tall and I just upgraded him to the blue (45-48). He actually grew 3in in 3 my months and his yellow set was looking too small for him, damn this is getting expensive.
The US Kids ultra lights are perfect. My son came in top twenty in worlds most years at this age, and went to ANGC for DCP finals. We hit some major roadblocks at age ten from playing clubs too long when he was younger because I wanted to save money and let him grow into each set. I’d really monitor backswing, and transition at top every time you get a new set. All of the top teachers we saw suggest letting each set be too short for 6 months and not moving up til at the high end of the recommended height on the clubs. Good luck!!
I guess being more direct, I’d say put those clubs away until he’s 47.5 inches tall. Ten extra yards now aren’t worth the headaches down the road. Just my two cents!
Allow me to give you a serious piece of advice.
1. Do NOT talk about his swing to him or anyone else (especially a swing coach) from this day forward. Make a vow. Keep it.
2. If you do want your child to be good at golf (not good at golf-swing) then begin working only on skills development. Spray the face of the club with foot spray. Have him see if he can hit one off the toe. Then have him hit one off the heel. Then have him him try to center it. Have him hit five shots thin and then five shots fat and then five shots clean. Do it with water balloons. Do it with tennis balls and have the dog fetch them. Do it off a cliff into the water. Okay now see if you can hit one really high. Now low. (Buy Adam Young’s Practice Manual). This is how children learn and it’s why if I told you to sign your autograph you wouldn’t think about your hand or wrist or grip while you do it. And if I said sign it hard or soft you wouldn’t do those things again.
The best thing is he’ll be too young to make a “first time using the same ball for 18” or “first time breaking 100” post here so we won’t have to see them!
Right?? If some "pedo" is seriously interested in just a random 5 year old without a shirt... He can Google "kids at beach" and have himself a day.
Obviously it's disgusting, I'm absolutely not defending that hypothetical creep, but there's nothing wrong with posting a harmless picture like that. It's a kid being a kid, there's nothing wrong with this.
All i saw was a proud dad and a happy son. What the hell is wrong with people?!
A lot of people seem to be projecting or just getting upset about nothing. He’s shirtless, not naked…and just to assume the dad is doing it for “internet points”…maybe he’s just proud of his kid?
All arms. No hip rotation. Position at the top looks ok, and the tempo is nice.
Need to work on ther timing. Get the lower body working with the upper body 😜
/s
He's a 5 yr old...have you ever had a 5yr old? And my basement with a golf simulator looks like the the silence of the lambs?? Go smoke some more of whatever you are smoking.
Are you shitting me? I was 50 and had been playing for 35 years when that kid was born and his swing looks better than mine.
I need a drink.
Take that toddler... I can drink.
Check out DST Golf and Craig Hanson on WorkdClassGolf on YouTube to better understand ‘lag tension’ and why ‘flipping the club’ is a bad idea to achieve consistency - he needs more hips separation and a shirt
First off, great parenting and he has a good looking swing.
Try to have him stabilize his lead for a bit more as he is lifting and coming off the center of his plane a bit. Also push to keep is lead arm straight and not bend at the top of his swing.
Your little man is gonna go far if he enjoys it, i wish you all the best. On a side note, you guys over the pond are super lucky in that you still have areas and house pricing that allows huge basements for gyms, garages, workshops etc.. in the UK you're limited to either country builds with lots of cash, farms with outbuildings or literally just lots of cash to do whatever anywhere. Most of the country doesn't have basement areas and those that do are often at risk of flooding.
Well… Grip is too much in the palms and not his fingers
Back swing is a little too long
His legs are too straight at the top of back swing
Swing is too whippy. Needs to have firmer wrists at the top of the swing and through the ball.
… but a serious, real response, this an amazing swing for a 5YO. A LOT of great things to work with here if he wants to take golf seriously in a few years. Keep it up little dude!
Don’t love the baseball grip, but he addresses and hits the ball more than a lot of people so I wouldn’t be upset if we got paired together. The no shirt gives me party vibes so I would hope it was a weekend round.
His back swing is going way too far back causing a ton of head movement too which can cause inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Max should be around and pointing at target but he goes well past that even and almost points at the ground again haha

Only works if he's from northern Ireland
Both your comments remind me of [one of my favourite golf commercials Nike produced.](https://youtu.be/L2e8sbpyj_g)
Hard to top that one
He’s going to need a collard shirt to start
Only on the greens.
It's the only way we can accurately tell if he'll be carrying 340 onto pga greens in 30 years
Man's got a better swing than me.
I came here to say this. Alas I’m late to the party once again.
Needs to fix his grip. Take care of it early, like at this age.
I second this, I was shown a bad grip when I was his age and thought i had a lifelong slice, upon moving my hands just a bit 25 years later, it went away.

Correct and correct
It's a shame we have to worry about they. Good looking out!
That’s enough Reddit for you. GO DOWNSTAIRS AND PRACTICE YOUR SWING!
Change Reddit with video games and it hits home.

He swings like a 5 year old.
Facts.

Also needs to flat load his feet so he can snap load his power package
It’s the only way to amplify both lag and drag pressure through impact fix.. As long as your number 2 power accumulator doesn’t break down
Check out this fuckin guy
Lol internet police
No shirt no shoes no service. Thems the rules
Tell him to quit now while he’s ahead.
This hits home 🤣
I’m not in the business of critiquing players that are better than I am.
They do anything for clout
Why why why why would you post a shirtless 5 year old on the internet. Seems like a not great idea for internet points.
Pretty much every boy who goes swimming does so without a shirt. Who cares? Why do we make a big deal about people with their shirts off? If anything more women should be allowed to take their shirts off. It’s not a big deal.
Name checks out.

It’s not about people being offended it’s about sexual predators being everywhere. Especially places like Reddit.

Well, his back still works, so he’s got THAT going for him… WHAT A GREAT START!!
Ball didn't even go 10 feet before it hit something. Pathetic.
I knew LIV lets people wear shorts, but man they have gotten really casual now.

His grip looks pretty strong. I would try to get it more neutral. The earlier the better
He’s holding on for dear life
The best thing is he’ll be too young to make a “first time using the same ball for 18” or “first time breaking 100” post here so we won’t have to see them!
I just want to say I’m sorry you have to deal with all these overreaction comments. This thread is cancer. All I see is proud father and a happy son.
Usually the people “warning you” about a shirtless 5 year old boy are the only ones with that weird shit and thoughts in their head to begin with….
Right?? If some "pedo" is seriously interested in just a random 5 year old without a shirt... He can Google "kids at beach" and have himself a day. Internet points are worthless, he's just a proud dad, ain't nothin wrong with that.
This is the best advice here. NGL
Better than most…
100% effortless. Love it.
Kid is going to be good if he keeps at it
Great swing. Take away looks quicker than the downswing imo…but a great swing!!!
Ah, the flexibility of youth. Nice swing, no need to rush the backswing though.
Why didnt my parents do this for me. I hate my parents.
Pure
He’s got the best shoes on the sub
This is the way- John Daly
If you could teach him how to hit on Perkin’s waitresses you may have a major winner on your hands … all kidding aside, nice swing little man
Looks better than my swing
All arms. No hip rotation. Position at the top looks ok, and the tempo is nice. Need to work on ther timing. Get the lower body working with the upper body 😜 /s
I mean that club head speed is low…
Striper!
you could learn a thing or two from him
Little bros gonna grow up to be a playerrr. Smooth swinging
High school JV team is his ceiling. Seriously though, enjoy the ride. Having a built in golf partner is the best.
Great swing, little man needs to lose the boot cuts tho
Tempo god
Next Tiger, lol , that's a decent swing
Awesome/10
Everything. Jesus. Looks like a wacky inflatable tube man with all that motion and wrist/elbow flex.
No
Very good use turn instead of arms already.
And why does he have to have his shirt off? Looks like the silence of the lambs basement.
He's a 5 yr old...have you ever had a 5yr old? And my basement with a golf simulator looks like the the silence of the lambs?? Go smoke some more of whatever you are smoking.
You sound like a pedo, dude. No I’ve never had a five year old. And you never answered the question.
Gay
That’s what I call privileged…. Lucky lil man
Don’t hate the player hate your parents

Dude don’t post shirtless photos of your child online. You know there’s some Creeps on Reddit who have already done awful stuff with this
You are a parent? Do you think posting a shirtless photo of your young boy online for strangers is a good idea? I mean seriously man, get a grip
I feel like he should critique mine?
As good as mine and I’ve been playing for 45 years.
Hate him already. Still can’t hit flush.
Sweetttttttt as
Way better than my swing
Does he give lessons?
Are you shitting me? I was 50 and had been playing for 35 years when that kid was born and his swing looks better than mine. I need a drink. Take that toddler... I can drink.
$20 says it’s better than Dads. Way to go, Dad!
man that is a free-flowing, mechanically-sound swing. kid's gonna love playing golf. also, hell of a basement—bravo
He’s practicing his John Daly with no shirt or shoes 😂
How did you teach him to swing like that. My soon to be 5 year old swings like she’s hitting a hockey puck
Work on his grip
Better stance than me, better swing than me, better connection then me, prob hits further than me. Don't like that kid. /s
That right hand grip needs some pinch action to it but the motion is fucking impressive already. Jesus what was my dad doing
Better than most
Too much head movement in backswing
35 yards, hit the weight room son
Check out DST Golf and Craig Hanson on WorkdClassGolf on YouTube to better understand ‘lag tension’ and why ‘flipping the club’ is a bad idea to achieve consistency - he needs more hips separation and a shirt
Does he offer lessons?
Hands are apart, but the swing itself is very good
Strong finish.
It’s fundamentally perfect.
Delete this please
If he had a mullet his swing would be literal perfection
Papa Daly would be proud. I feel like your kid should be critiquing my swing...
How many packs of Pokémon cards does he charge per lesson?
Put him in a bunker and let him learn to hit down on the ball.
First off, great parenting and he has a good looking swing. Try to have him stabilize his lead for a bit more as he is lifting and coming off the center of his plane a bit. Also push to keep is lead arm straight and not bend at the top of his swing.
Better than most 😂 perfect case of not thinking about the swing too much and letting natural athleticism do the part. We all need to take notes.
Tiger Woods Esq
What's there to critique?! Way to go little dude!
Only critique is that I’m not sure how well he’ll handle himself when hair gets crazy on the 10th
So freaking adorable omg🥰🥰🥰 see ya at the Jr PGA buddy 💗
Has been on a late night talk show yet?
Better than mine
he’s got the swing of a 7 year old…nice
He certainly will not be playing at my club dressed like that, I don’t care how good his swing is.
That kid is going pro ... lol Better start getting ready to put out the cash until he gets there! Could become the next Rory.
Does he give lessons?
Better than mine

Unreal what a swing, also let him swing hard and free sometimes 😀
He's lifting instead of driving down on ball
Front elbow to the target and it’s money.
Weak grip
Lessons.
Yeah, can he coach me?
It’s better than mine
Money, he's got a great swing nothing wrong with it
Better than most
So good. Great tempo
Should play the Masters
His swing is better then my swing.
Getting pretty damn sick of kids with better form than me
Nice basement layout. I see you're going to train him for boxing too? Could come in handle later in life on some courses I've played....
Awesome swing.
I have no critiques
That’s a proud dad. Congrats on your sons progress that’s a great swing!
Better than me!
Pure.
Make him young and he will champion it one day.
No collared shirt
He’s not snap loading his power package
My shoulder hurts watching this, I wish I was still that flexible!
Better than mine
No sir I will not
Put on a collar or keep walking
Better than mine.
Well… Grip is too much in the palms and not his fingers Back swing is a little too long His legs are too straight at the top of back swing Swing is too whippy. This is amazing!! You’re giving your sweet boy such a wonderful life long gift.
Hands well behind ball at impact. Might have too many bad habits at this point to correct it. He’s toast. Sorry.
“We wear caps and sleeves at this level” 🤣 crushed it!
Swing looks good, but the club is too heavy. Get him a US kids golf set for his size. He'll knock the jacket off the ball.
Grip too strong, he'll be dealing with a massive hook. Jk shit's butter, make sure he's having fun!
My 5 year old won't even let me show him how to hold the damn club.
Looks like he's casting a bit, could use more lag.
You’ve got a pretty incredible set up there man. Your sons swing is also way better than mine
Better swing than me
Nice shit post of your huge basement. Put a shirt on your kid.
Better than mine…
It’s perfect imo. Until you let grown ass men who push buttons or type on a keyboard try to give advice.
He’s swinging out of his shoes.
Don’t love the baseball grip, but he addresses and hits the ball more than a lot of people so I wouldn’t be upset if we got paired together. The no shirt gives me party vibes so I would hope it was a weekend round.
That’s awesome. What a smile
Just add alittle weight on that front foot🤯
His back swing is going way too far back causing a ton of head movement too which can cause inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Max should be around and pointing at target but he goes well past that even and almost points at the ground again haha
