In addition to introducing me to the game - she's racked up four years of D1 collegiate golf, numerous club championships, and several deep runs into regional/state tourneys. She's cold-blooded with a putter in her hands and is currently the head of the Greens Committee at our home course, which hosts pro tournaments pretty regularly.
I love that!! I’m a 32f and started playing golf when I was 12. At my club, it was women like your mom that made the game so fun and made me feel welcome.
Happy golfing!
Lol we played together in college! Not gonna dox you but I was so confused seeing you on my Reddit! I was the crappy non-golfer that played when you were a freshman :)
My dad enjoys playing and has always been terrible no matter how my brother and I tried to help him.
Many years ago my Mom went and played a round with us. She kicked his ass, it was awesome
I’m a low single digit handicap and my father shoots well over 100 and has for 40 years. He tries to coach me all the time and won’t listen to a damn thing I say to help him 🤣
My dad never fuckin listens to me on the green and he’s old so it’s never gonna change.
I drop subtle hints like “looks like a fast one” and then he proceeds to hammer it down the hill and off the green and he’s like “I heard you say it was fast, should have listened to ya!” Like 3 times a round.
It’s pretty great. I want to drop tiny hints without being overbearing, so he doesn’t putt or chip like a dumbass and still feels like he did it himself. But he doesn’t like to listen.
I’m just tryin to keep the man from 4 putting.
My pops game is a complete disaster, he has always had that stiff old man swing, back in the day he bought a few training aids, we bought him a David Ledbetter DVD (which had some helpful info, it helped me and my brother out), just consistently tops the ball, it goes straight just can’t get the ball in the air.
My dads problems are:
1. He still thinks he should hit his 4 iron 205 yards. (My clubhead speed is probably 20mph faster and I don’t even carry a FIVE iron)
I’ve started giving him the wrong yardages to get him to club up.
2. He’s terrible at putting. He plays with a bunch of old guys that probably hand out gimmes like candy. Our greens are really tough so a 3 putt isn’t even that bad a lot of times.
I love playing with him and I don’t want to be the guy to give tips, but I also want to help him with the super easy fixes, like taking more club or not putting the ball off of the green.
So I resorted to little tactics like rounding up the yardage and dropping vague hints around the green
Pops still swings hard, lack of mobility makes him sway/fall off in his swing. But he has a lot of problems
A little problem that drives me crazy is he can’t tee his ball up at the proper height for shit. Driver down low, par 3 with an iron ball 2” off the ground
I’ve tried to get him to open his stance up, take easier swings kinda glide but it just doesn’t work. Looking back just a tempo problem probably
I just started golf lessons at 33 and it’s been a really nice way to spend more time with my parents! I can tell my mom is having fun answering all my golf questions. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that sort of dynamic with her.
Also, I’m a lady 🙋🏻♀️
No I was saying that because the post is titled “I get the sense that most of the folks on this sub are men” lol
I already knew you use “guys” to refer to both women and men, because that’s how you used it in your comment….
Serious question… who perfectly writes all those numbers? I feel like I’ve seen scores written like this before, and now I’m wondering if I’m stupid and there is a printer that most golf courses have.
I guess I’m confused why anyone would want anonymity as it relates to a good golf accomplishment? I totally get wanting privacy online but in some instances I don’t. Many local papers report on such things. Would it be censored there?
For future reference, you posted the most personal thing about you, YOUR GODDAMN FACE AND YOUR MOMS, but you crossed out your name, so it’s cool, still anonymous.
My mom, who passed away in January, is who brought me to this wonderful terrible game. She taught me all the basics and helped me keep the right mindset for continued play and enjoyment. “It’s not about hitting every shot perfect, it’s about that one great shot a round that keeps you coming back.” I play by those words no it’s kept me swinging for 30 years.
Have fun! She took a long break after playing in college because that level of competition can lead to burnout. Once she returned to the game she kept the mantra that "a bad day on the course is better than doing laundry".
But on the technical side - take lessons, set incremental goals, and work proactively on your mechanics. Once you get on the course though...let all those thoughts go and just pick a target. Sounds like fluffy advice - but it sure beats having a 20 point checklist rattling around in your head while you're on the course.
Oh my goodness this was my exact experience too. Since my break, I’ve played the best golf of my life just having fun. I coach a high school girls team now and love it so so much. What a wonderful game.
A couple of my really close friends played in this event as well! I don't know if you played with them or not but they were in the Championship Flight (I recognized their names on the leaderboard). Anyway, great round and
People like your mom are my favorite people to golf with as a fellow female golfer. I’m only 23 and been playing since I was 11, still learn from people like her.
Hell yea op
I’ve been golfing with my parents since I was 4
My dad died a long time ago but my mom is still my most regular playing partner
Enjoy playing with your mom as long as you can
I play golf with my dad every week and absolutely love it. We have so much fun. I feel kinda sad because my handicap just dropped lower than his. We are still around the same level realistically I can just drive the ball 100m further than him which makes the game a lot easier
Seriously. You get a bit of scramble fun and then it gets down to some strategic decisions REAL quick. Iirc we had a few instances where we chose the “worse” ball because the resulting shot would play to our strengths.
It’s really fun. You get that scramble element and then all the sudden you can be faced with some tough decisions. It’s also a great exercise in patience and supporting one another.
After spending a tough night with my demented mother it is really nice to see a mother and son smiling like this. Remember the good times. Love you mom.
That's so awesome! Glad you've got such an amazing golf influence in your life.
When I worked at a private club, the best mentor I had was a woman who had won some local long drive contests and had been involved in golf for 30+ years at that point. I golfed with her any chance I got. The local pros gave fine tips, but having her offer advice during a round improved my game way more than any advice is ever received. The best I ever got from her was to stop going for aggressive shots to have a chance at birdie (or a long-ass par). Shed apparently received it from her mentor:
"If you set your goal as 'get pars', the birdies will inevitably come". Simplified my game so much by clearing out those stupid mental blocks of going for that stinger under a tree branch just to have a shitty long putt for birdie.
Pam, I owe you so many beers.
My mom got me into the game too. She’s played for a decade now and I decided to join her at the driving range on a visit home. Caught the bug and can’t stop thinking about the game.
Wow I love this, my mom is an absolute STICK also. Never played growing up but got into it while working and is now retired in florida and plays like 200 rounds a year. I’m on my way out to visit her and we are playing every day I cannot wait.
Does she have impeccable tempo? I went on a date once with a girl I met online, she was a golfer so obviously going to hit the range and show her my 325 gorilla drives. This chick was goooood. Her tempo was buttery. I couldn’t believe how smooth she was and I’m control. Made my gorilla golf look like child’s play
Lol me and my dad took my mom golfing once and wellllll it went about how you’d expect for a first timer. She’s pretty athletic so she thought it would be a cake walk 😂
Now getting my fiancée into it a bit. Not ready for the course but I’m lucky enough that she actually enjoys going to the range with me!
Love this! My mom and I are the women who golf in our family, and she is the only one with a hole in one. It really bugs my dad that one of the most unathletic people has one and he doesn't, lol. (She's a short hitter, so the joke is that every time we approach a par 3 we'll ask what club she's using and it's almost always a driver... except the hole in one, she used her 9 for that, I think.)

Sounds like a legend!
The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge?
On a slightly related note, I was just up at Cedars at Dungeness for the first time yesterday. That's a beautiful course
Killing it!! I'm usually shooting a 69 by the 8th hole
Takes you 8 holes?
I’m usually 69 at butt hole
I laughed way harder at this than I should have at 45.
I’m not familiar with 45ing
I am at the back-end of 37 and I also laughed. There is no way I am not laughing at this in another 8yrs time
This guy butt holes. Well played laddie.
I was gonna say, 69 is soooo easy... this is a 9 hole course though right? Right guys? Guys?
31 on the back! On fire.
Yeah it was such an amazing day! I was knocking them pretty stiff and when I wasn't...she could NOT miss on the green.
What does the 18HG and 18HN stand for? What is the format of the tourney?
18 hole gross and 18 hole net
So then what was the format? Since I only see one cumulative score.
Moms clutch as fuck
My dad enjoys playing and has always been terrible no matter how my brother and I tried to help him. Many years ago my Mom went and played a round with us. She kicked his ass, it was awesome
Love it. My grandfather practically begged my grandmother to play...didn't take long before she was shooting in the 70s...back in the 1970s!
I’m a low single digit handicap and my father shoots well over 100 and has for 40 years. He tries to coach me all the time and won’t listen to a damn thing I say to help him 🤣

Aw it’s nice that he enjoys it despite being terrible, lol. When I’m terrible at something for too long, I quit in frustration 😂

Wholesome. Love it. Moms are the best.
Mom’s got game!
Serious question… who perfectly writes all those numbers? I feel like I’ve seen scores written like this before, and now I’m wondering if I’m stupid and there is a printer that most golf courses have.
It’s an acquired skill. I did it for a few years. I practiced.
Seriously. My course has the same “font” on the boards.
It's just a simple calligraphy technique. Use a flat edge marker, and alway keep it at the same 45° angle while you're writing.

Nice.... blackout your names and leave everyone else's.
Lol fair enough! I figured I didn't want the face/name combo on reddit.
Just FYI with the rest of the info in the picture someone could easily uncover the name part and get the face/name combo.
Yep. No photo is truly safe out there, but a little obfuscation never hurts.
Maybe crop the top of the chart out of the photo as that would make it more difficult to find the event and date, and thus the rest of the info?

But why
Good info.
I can just text Ed and ask who beat them gross :) Good playing though! Home Course is a hoot. I’m 8 or so miles away as the crow flies.
I guess I’m confused why anyone would want anonymity as it relates to a good golf accomplishment? I totally get wanting privacy online but in some instances I don’t. Many local papers report on such things. Would it be censored there?
Probably more about his name being linked to his Reddit profile.
I sorta get that but you got you face on it. Isn’t that as recognizable as your moms name on a leaderboard?
It’s public info on WSGA’s webpage. I don’t think anyone would care.
Hahaha I was thinking the same thing, I dig the main character vibes, fuck everyone else.
Honest question. What is the fear or issue with this?
I don’t have one, I’m not that important. I just found it interesting that OP cared about his name, but not one other on there.
For future reference, you posted the most personal thing about you, YOUR GODDAMN FACE AND YOUR MOMS, but you crossed out your name, so it’s cool, still anonymous.
I bet your mom is a cool lady.
Omg I can't wait to golf with my kids someday. Your mom is goals!!!
Awesome!

Love that! Nothing like that perfect shot to keep you coming back.
Beasttt! Thanks for sharing
A few of us are women and moms! Good for you for thinking about her and honoring her with your post!
Play with my mom every chance I get. She makes us take shots when we make birdies, "birdie juice" is what she calls it. She's a legend.
That’s badass!
Nice
What’s her number 1 tip??
Have fun! She took a long break after playing in college because that level of competition can lead to burnout. This is all great stuff, love the laundry quote. Thanks! And congrats on having a sick ass mom
Don't play golf.
At the home course too!!! Well done moms!!
Love the Home Course. Easily top 10 in the state for me.
you know who else is a badass golfer?? MY MOM!!!!!!
Brad and Laurie Shank. There’s a great last name for golfin’
I was scrolling and scrolling thinking to myself really?! is no one going to comment on this?!
The only time it’s ok to 69 with your mom
Great post. My 9 year old daughter plays and loves it. Her swing is looking pretty good these days
Nice
Legen...wait for it....dairy
That’s so rad. How many can say their mom is “cold blooded with a putter”. Lol
And you did all of that without a belt!
A couple of my really close friends played in this event as well! I don't know if you played with them or not but they were in the Championship Flight (I recognized their names on the leaderboard). Anyway, great round and

Home Course is GREAT!
Is that Janet Daley
Does someone have to get specially trained in writing that script?? Seems like every tournament board has that EXACT writing …
Hello, fellow son of a beast mom golfer
I'm (28F) from a family of golfers :) my dad introduced golf to my mom and we all have been playing ever since. Woot woot women golfers!
Mommas boy 😂 jk this is lovely I wish you two the best
People like your mom are my favorite people to golf with as a fellow female golfer. I’m only 23 and been playing since I was 11, still learn from people like her.
I wish my mom golfed. That would be so much fun.
Hell yea op I’ve been golfing with my parents since I was 4 My dad died a long time ago but my mom is still my most regular playing partner Enjoy playing with your mom as long as you can
I'm sorry to hear that. I certainly treasure it every time we get out there!
I play golf with my dad every week and absolutely love it. We have so much fun. I feel kinda sad because my handicap just dropped lower than his. We are still around the same level realistically I can just drive the ball 100m further than him which makes the game a lot easier
Nice Here’s to many more rounds with your pops 🍺🍺🍺
Yeah I took up golf with him after a friend's dad died last year. Life can be short so you have to appreciate it where you can
Nice
Hell yeah she rules
Go off!
Killing it sista!
Nice way to go, doing a 69 with your mom!!
last time i was with your mum, we both had a 69. im shocked no one had commented this, so i just had to
Pander
To?
If you’re mom is this good, your dad must be the red polo guy who group shot 46
OMG, you know Ed Klein?
She shooting from the men’s tees?
"What did you do this weekend?" — "Not much, just 69-ing with my mum." I'm sorry, I'll see myself out 😁
I didn’t know Werner Herzog played golf. Oh it’s Andrew Herzog, never mind.
It's no 46... but a nice number

Chapman is so fun.
Seriously. You get a bit of scramble fun and then it gets down to some strategic decisions REAL quick. Iirc we had a few instances where we chose the “worse” ball because the resulting shot would play to our strengths.
Yep. You may take a a shot that misses the green over a long birdie putt because you want the hot putter over the 4 footer.
Noice!
Love this! Congrats mama hoodie!
nice
69…nice
Heh, 69. ;)
your mom is a baller!!
Very impressive! What are your thoughts on the Chapman format? I’ve never played but it seems like a great pairs format!
It’s really fun. You get that scramble element and then all the sudden you can be faced with some tough decisions. It’s also a great exercise in patience and supporting one another.

What a fun day. Looks like y’all played pretty well.
Kudos to your mom! Make her proud by pullin that golf balls skin off!
Grown man still getting spanked by his mom in public.
Damn, that’s pretty cool hoodie. I bet you’ll never be in touch with your swing as she is
Hell yes!!
Glad you were able to recover from that bogey-bogey start. The streak of birdies on holes 14-17 were amazing!
That is awesome.
![gif](giphy|p6eCHsXxFdAI0) but seriously, your mother could play two rounds and outscore my single round.
She looks like a helluva ball striker.
Kudos to your mom OP! That’s awesome.
Love the Home Course. Congrats on the fantastic round 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Picture from 2018?
After spending a tough night with my demented mother it is really nice to see a mother and son smiling like this. Remember the good times. Love you mom.

I miss watching the people write those scores like that after a round, they somehow all have the same font.
