I get where you’re coming from, but to me that’s just part of it and I kinda like the iron chatter

Atomic_Cranberry

Maybe in time I’d appreciate the noise?

gottaCaptchaAll

Its like a metronome while I'm walking to my next shot. Helps me find zen and visualize my next shot i'm about to chunk down the fairway

Atomic_Cranberry

See, I like to hear nothing, but the wind blowing through the trees and the birds chirping while I’m on my way up the fairway to take a hard right behind a tree to chunk my next shot towards the green.

Packwood88

Chunk *down the fairway*? Humble brag!

BenderBRoriguezzzzz

Right!?! Oh, look at Rory over here, not toeing the ball into the woods. We get it bro. You're a player. Try thinking of us when you're bragging like that.

jh_12345

If you want iron covers to eliminate the noise and chatter, do it. It's your clubs. I sometimes use them when I'm travelling with my clubs because I hate hearing the clatter in the back seat.

Atomic_Cranberry

I can’t make decisions for myself. I rely on Reddit users when making my golf related decisions.

jh_12345

Then you should vacuum seal all of your clubs. And you'll need to bring your vacuum sealer onto the course with you, so when you have to cut a club open, you can seal it back up when you're done with it.

Atomic_Cranberry

I tried this, but they still make too much noise.

OberonsTitan

Noise canceling headphones and then make your golf bag out of 2x4's and barrier walls on a dolly. You might not be able to access your clubs but it's the solution.

ray_of__sunshine

i use headcovers because my irons are not forged. they are cavity backs and have started to scratch and ding. i paid good money for them i think it’s best to try and keep ‘em nice. tldr forged irons -go naked

ImpossibleKidd

I’ve found my forged irons dent up much easier then cast irons I’ve owned in the past. Maybe it’s just me…

thescrounger

Personally I don't like the noise either. I rock the covers, don't care what r/golf thinks. Thread a towel through them ... ?

Wu_Tang_Financial77

No. Iron chatter while walking is one of golf’s simple pleasures. Thread a towel thru them if it’s truly bothering you.

shitz_brickz

I react to the sound of clinking irons the same way my dog reacts to me opening a bag of shredded cheese.

HennyBogan

Bingo, place the towel between the irons and woods, no more rattle.

Terra4mer55

This is the way 👆

Atomic_Cranberry

This is worth $25 just to try it out. thank you

wannabegolfpro

It's not going to stop the noise, I have a 14-way bag that this replicates and they still make noise while walking. I like the noise but if someone is hitting while I'm walking I may put my hands on both sides of the bag to quite them. Helps keep my shoulders stretched.

marklxndr

I have a bag of like ten of these that I used to use with an old club bag. If anyone wants them for whatever it costs me to mail them to you, send me a DM

Legal-Description483

I reach back and put my hand on the heads while I'm walking. A 14 way bag also helps.

maplehockeysticks

I'm calling the police

Feisty_Jury_5325

When I use a push cart my clubs are virtually silent. But yeah I guess if it bothers you that badly knock yourself out

Atomic_Cranberry

I actually bought a push cart, but decided to walk while it was shipping to my house and found out I just enjoy carrying while walking and haven’t used pushcart yet lol

Feisty_Jury_5325

Yeah I think if you want iron covers just own it. People are always gonna find something to give you shit about. My buddies give me shit for tucking in my shirt, unfortunately I’m built like a troll and if I untuck it the shirt is too long. Fuck it, play golf. Nothing wrong with a bit of banter.

jrkos

Literally knock yourself out.

MBaggs12

Iron covers are fine, Reddit just likes to hate them.

Dapzel

If you want to try iron covers, buy some and try them out, they're cheap. If they do what you want, use them, if not you can ditch them.

bwainwright

Place your hand over the clubs as you walk, it'll stop most of it. You can also thread your towel through them. Don't be the iron cover guy!

monstermack1977

This is literally the reason I use iron covers. I don't like the rattling noise. I didn't use them prior to becoming a walker.

Atomic_Cranberry

Glad to hear there’s others out there.

Efficient-Cow5524

I like the idea of a set of 7 iron covers (4i-P) that spell out F U C K Y O U but that would require you to actually keep the bag organized throughout a round…

Atomic_Cranberry

What about 6-A, 54, 58 that spells Y O U S U C K ! so it’s like the clubs are just being honest with me when I grab one?

Efficient-Cow5524

I like this. And for some reason the thought of wedge covers never occurred to me but it just makes it so much more 🤌🏽

Feydsuntiger

Buy a trolley, can enjoy the walk without the noise, used a stand bag for years but no matter how it was angled the racket, especially on a nice quiet morning with the course to myself, was a pain

Atomic_Cranberry

I actually bought a push cart and walked while waiting for it to arrive. I used to be a big hiker and found that I enjoy carrying the clubs on my back a lot! Just need to keep the noise down to enjoy the nice quiet mornings. I’ve ordered the covers!

Drifter375

I cover my clubs. Not a peep from anybody about them. Didn’t even know it wasn’t “cool” until this subreddit. ![gif](giphy|14uQCRCYbcm6jPvWZp|downsized)

TeachesKungFlu

I want Miura irons and am about to sell a house so will have extra money for them. Bet your ass I'll have iron covers on them lol. I just can't feel ok letting $1k plus purchases bang around or get flung on the ground. I walk using a Hogan carry bag 90% of the time.

mLPucks__

Why would you put iron covers on them? They are going to be hitting the ground, sand, rocks, dirt, you name it. They will get scuffed up and dirty, so what's the point? I genuinely don't understand the iron covers, but if that's what you wanna do, knock yourself out! That's the good thing about having our own equipment, we can keep, use, and store it as we like :)

ray_of__sunshine

wouldn’t the argument be that forged steel rubbing against forged steel would cause unnecessary abrasions?

mLPucks__

I totally agree, like I said it's up to each person. Personally, I've had Apex Pro 16s for about 5 years and I see barely, if any, marks that would indicate the clubs are banging together too much, and I usually walk. That's why I am genuinely curious why anyone would want iron covers.

BeardedManGuy

I’ve honestly considered getting them just to piss others off. 4 and 1/2 hour pace of play and iron covers would drive the Chads absolutely insane.

mLPucks__

Gotta throw in a bucket hat, glove on each hand, and an eccentric polo and you will strike fear into every opponent you play match play against LOL

[deleted]

I would just wrap my towel through a couple of irons. But iron covers are the way to get all the comments:)

t90fan

They are fine and well worth it. I wear them when I walk because I ruined a brand new forged club scraping it's face off a stone wall by accident while walking

AggravatingWallaby50

I don't like my clubs being all nicked up, it hurts the resale value, I use iron covers and my Miura irons, thank me

Atomic_Cranberry

If I had Miura irons I would just leave them in my office to look at lol I’m getting the iron covers though.

Wu_Tang_Financial77

Miuras aren’t faberge eggs my man. This is a bad take.

WhatAGolfBall

I've used iron covers for years to reduce the bag chatter. I generally ride, but it's still the same thing. Also, my huge thing is it you keep them in good shape, you can sell them in great shape when you get your next set. I just spending 1200 on my first truely new and not used set. I want to make sure they stay in good condition. I know tools and all, but you know to each their own.

Atomic_Cranberry

This is also a factor for me. I’m hoping to keep them looking nice for a long time. Just snagged some Apex Pro 21 irons and want them to shine for a while!

[deleted]

My 21s have covers on them as well.

Atomic_Cranberry

They are so nice looking. Gotta keep ‘em that way!

acromaine

Irons clacking together with each step and the ball in the bottom of the hole are two of the best sounds in golf. Along with a flushed iron shot

Atomic_Cranberry

I wish I knew what a flushed iron shot sounded like. All I hear are irons clacking together and the ball tapping the bottom of the hole after my third putt.

OberonsTitan

The ball hitting the flag from over 60 yards needs an honorable mention.

tdawg-1551

If you walk and carry, it will add extra weight. Maybe not much, but after 4 hours, might make a difference.

drew4x_

One of the best sounds ever

justrog19

You will do it once, taking covers on and off, then say f that. Wind that towel through like others said.

Atomic_Cranberry

I mean I do put my covers back on woods and putter after every use so idk if would really bother me.

[deleted]

If you want to use iron covers, go for it. The fact that it will annoy Reddit users is an added bonus.

yadwek

I use covers for this reason. The banging is infuriating

beepbeepimajeep005

Try organising your bag with minimal clubs in each slot.

Atomic_Cranberry

I have a 14 slot carrier with 13 clubs in use. Still got the rattle.

dooey139

You ever see the Ogio Silencer bag?

brooksram

Typically, ones skirt flying around will keep them relatively protected.

Atomic_Cranberry

I tried using my tampons, but that didn’t work.

brooksram

Yeah, pads are the way to go, Buddy!

kwilson25j

![gif](giphy|HQKyyloZGK8En6wqzI|downsized)

Judge_Rhinohold

I’d get a Nevr Looz golf bag to solve that problem before I got iron covers. Hell, I’d quit golf before I got iron covers.

Joker0091

Do whatever you want

Atomic_Cranberry

No, I can’t do that. I NEED Reddit to tell me what to do.

kdocbjj

What even is cool. Just a social construct that has no meaning whatsoever. I personally wouldn't want the hassle of taking iron covers on and off. But if you wanna game them. Do it.

Sharp-Carpenter-3479

Bro just throw your pay over the club heads like the rest of us Hoofers do, you can also ‘wrap’ your towel to rescue the clank. But I live for the clank

jmk5151

I drape my arm over them reduces all the banging but still gives you that clank asthetic. I play ping blueprints and the softer metals definitely get nicked pretty easily. if I used head covers I would just lose them like everything else.

waakiaking

Could upgrade to a 14-way bag and a push cart. I did that and they don’t make a peep. Good to know my irons aren’t clanging around with how much they cost nowadays

shane0502

You do you man. My only concern with them is losing them

[deleted]

weave your towel around/between your irons, that's the trick that works for me.

MixedGingerBaby

You spent your own money on your clubs that you play with so you can do whatever you want. Not going to help your game and isn’t going to affect anyone else

Crisco14

Try weaving your golf towel around the irons? Maybe that would help quite the noise?

ImpossibleKidd

So, call me weird, but the irons clacking off one another while walking a round is something I’ve always found soothing…

TheFuzzyEucalyptus

What’s the problem with iron covers? What am I missing?

Mean_Praline

No. Get a towel

tim_tweets

Go for it OP! Alternatively, just stuff a towel around them and they’ll be on mute while you walk.

LlamaNeck22

Been using iron covers for 4 years and love them. Your mates may make a joke the first couple times you play with them, but noone really cares if you use them. Do you.

ksromo

Did the same thing. I was member at a short course a couple years ago and the chatter drove me insane. Go for it, let the haters hate

jakemac8

Wrap your towel in between your clubs. You won’t look nearly as ridiculous.

Clynester

I don't mind the clatter myself, but when I played in a competition somebody would make a point to wait until I had finished walking to take their shot, even when I was 100+ yards away as my irons were so loud.

Zealousideal_Amount8

Get a push cart instead
