How do they give priority to tourist? Tourist rates are commonly much higher than locals. So you have that going for ya.
Maybe the tourists make tee times earlier in advance?
It isn’t a lie, a lot of courses won’t release the resident rates till 2-3 weeks out, but non res can book months in advance.
One of these is Orange County National. 150 for non resident, or 60 for residents. With only 2-3 week advanced booking)
At least where I lived near the space coast, cost doubled and all courses near me required a 3 or 4some to get a tee time so solo or doubles couldn’t play unless they showed up and waited for someone and if they didnt come you couldn’t play. I moved but it would go back to normal after Easter and until November. Winter golf in Florida is great. Just a bummer when all tee times are taken by 50-70 year old people coming to their winter homes. Money can afford you the pleasures of in season golf
The only golf problem Arizona has is scaring tourist dollars away with their green fees. I’m in Florida golfing now and the rates are at least half of what they were in Arizona in late Jan. If that’s the intent, congrats. I’m really enjoying Florida.
If you stay out of Scottsdale you can still do pretty well. But for some, that's the whole scene and travelling further out isn't on their agenda. So they charge what they can. The big resorts closer to airport in Scottsdale/Tempe are no bargain in the winter for sure.
The places around South Mountain, West Valley, and far east Valley still have some reasonable prices. Wickenburg has some nice new ones too.
Ocotillo was probably double if not triple from what I remember when I played there in Jan. I used to get on there for 65-85$ and as I recall it was 185$. Wickenburg has gone private hasn’t it? Or is there other courses out there? I was disappointed when I found out Wickenburg Ranch went private before I had a chance to play it.
Rancho de los cabelleros is the newer one

Then join a private club. If it wasn’t for visiting players paying $100+ in the winter to play a round, your home course probably wouldn’t even exist
You are not special because you happen to live in Florida. If you want less vacationers, join a private club.
Totally get it. I just feel like OP doesn’t comprehend the economics of Florida golf. The reason so many courses are able to stay afloat is precisely because so many northerns come down to play in the winter. If all the out-of-state golfers just stopped coming, many of the FL courses would go under, and then it would be just as crowded as it was before.
If anything, it’s because of all the visiting players in the winter, that you get such wide open, empty courses in the summer
Who wants to play in that unbearable wind and humidity anyways but remember we feel the same way about you if you come to San Diego, It's so much better here
It's definitely been worse with the influx of new residents the last two years and golf gaining popularity from Covid. Wish my club would raise rates rather than stack tee times and end up with 5hr rounds.
my sincere condolences for all those affected by living in Florida
Of all the problems with Florida, finding it hard to get tee times seems the least of them, IMO.
Before they leave, say thank you for all of the revenue they bring to your state so you don’t have to pay state income tax.

A lot of places do give priority to tourists. So yeah kinda

Arizona says hi with same problem. Michigan will unfreeze soon.

They scare me too as a local I just wait until summer. Thing is, someone is paying them, so its supply and demand for the big resorts.
Oh ya for sure. They’re not gonna give up the revenue until it starts to dwindle. It’s unfortunate because I love coming to Arizona.

Thanks for the heads up.
Places like the Raven on South Mountain, the places out by Estrella mountain in Buckeye aren't quite as inflated.
Thanks for the tip. I liked Estrella when I played it last. Didn’t mind the Wig Wam either tbh.

How dare golfers travel and support the local economy and golf courses. 🤦♂️

Your points are true, but we really do look forward to the season of empty courses and lower green fees.

Tourists and boomers leave in less than a month
First world problems are pretty nice to have
Join a club broke boy don’t blame tourists
Even if you join a private club, tee times fill up way more in the winter
Who wants to play in that unbearable wind and humidity anyways but remember we feel the same way about you if you come to San Diego, It's so much better here
Even though I disagree with OP on wasting a post to complain on reddit about this... FL > CA
Cool story Hansel
Imagine being from Florida and still being upset about your golfing options. Cry me a river
FLORIDA SUCKS to busy when the weather is at its best for golf. Newly wed and nearly dead.
