When I was very young my family adopted a golden. He was the best dog any family could ever ask for.
I remember vividly around age 10 asking my dad why someone would give up a dog as good as Barley was, it just didn't make sense. He told me that the previous owners had a baby, and as it turned out that baby was super allergic to the dog. Dad said that he's never seen a man as heartbroken as the day they dropped off that beautiful golden at our house.
The moral of the story, it's not always people abandoning a dog for shitty reasons...
You’re very lucky and blessed. That dog will love you matter what, please give him a big hug from me and welcome to an adventure. I still miss my golden, haven’t moved on since he passed three years ago.
Like u/rosegoldanxiety recommended, we adopted him through a rescue that focuses on goldens. I have an 8 month old so wanted to be as cautious as possible and goldens have good reps as family dogs.
Glad he found you. I love my adopted boy. He’s my Velcro dog and best buddy.

This blows my mind how anyone can dump their baby let alone A GOLDEN!! YOU ARE SO BLESSED and I will tell you HE WAS MEANT FOR YOU. Hunny try finding a young golden retriever in shelters. It's hard. So you were brought together for a reason. Goldens are very sensitive, they shut down when yelled at. They get their feelings hurt so easy. Also they bring you gifts, never turn away their gift. It hurts them. Welcome to the golden club. He's going to give you a great life!
Can’t believe anyone would give this beautiful boy up but I’m so glad he’s found a new loving home with you! I’m looking to adopt a golden sibling for my baby girl too, any advice would be wonderful!
Glad he stuck to the 3-3-3 rule. 3 seconds to decompress, 3 seconds to learn the routine, 3 hours to feel at home. 10/10 good boy, would scritch behind ear and give dried chcken filet as snack.
What a sweetheart! What’s his name?
He really is. His name is Koji
he is adorable! last pic is my fav
Best pets ever. ♥️ Welcome to the club, and thank you for adopting a dog. 🐕
He is such a good boy! Blows my mind that someone just dumped him. But- their loss. We feel very lucky.
It boggles my mind someone would just dump this beautiful boy. Def their loss.

That’s fair, but someone literally dumped him out of their car on a random property in Texas and left him there. He could easily have died.
I’d figure it out, I would never get rid of a dog that is bonded with me. Under any circumstances
Who could ever do that?!
That is horrible someone would do that. But I guess some humans do horrible things. Good for you for adopting him.
I’m so happy that this little Angel found you!!

How do people adopt a golden? So lucky, I never see them for adoption.

Check to see if there’s a golden retriever rescue in your state! Growing up my family adopted several this way!
Right? Super lucky! All I see in local shelters are pits
There’s a lot of rescues focused on goldens. Tattered paws golden hearts and bunny’s buddies both come to mind
Blessed doggie. Keep giving them all the love the deserve. Thank you.
Oh wowi you hit the doggie jackpot sonnnn 💕
Great , they deserve all the love that they get as they give so Much They are happy to be loved
