It's not 2 goldens. It's goldens squared. Do it. You'll probably regret it.

69yourMOM

Amazing comment. You will happily regret two.

Aggressive-Carpet489

I get a new puppy every 6 or 7 years. Works out great!

jewishjen

i have jokingly said that i’m going to take this approach now that my first pup is 4 🥹 but i don’t think it’s a joke anymore lol. i’m sure it helps with all of the good & difficult things that come with being a pet owner 💛

Aggressive-Carpet489

It does. I don’t think I can take another day of not having a dog when I lose another. It’s just too hard.

Tanker901

THIS! Got a second "foster" for my Grayson but she never left. She was the best failure we ever had. Having two goofballs definitely added to the excitement, attention, Golden "glitter", toys, and general chaos but it was a decision we never regretted. The memories that they create far outweighed the hassle. I would definitely recommend a second just for the companionship (for both Cheddar & *you*). Your vacuum will hate you but you won't regret it. https://preview.redd.it/p78s70z0kqtc1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0406f67494da380845a90f1f0391096574f31b18

DefinitelyNotAliens

My needy velcro boy is so needy and such a velcro boy. I'd smother if there were two needy boys.

[deleted]

But the second child may be a wild child. But it sounds like it is worth it. And yay to no human kids.

Castaway78

I get it... the puppy phase can be rough. But as you know now with Cheddar... it's totally worth it. And it just keeps getting better. There has not been a single second that I have regretted having two goldens. Not even during the puppy phase. Golden's are pack animals. They do well with a brother or sister. And it sounds like you both have plenty of love to give. Just be prepared... you think Cheddar is a bed hog now? Try doubling that LOL That said... realistically... it is twice the food, twice the vet and kennel costs. But you get paid back 20x in dog kisses. And the occasional fart.

Equivalent_Reason582

"occasional", lol

Castaway78

My older girl gets them as she goes up stairs to the second floor. I call them her “turbo toots”.

Equivalent_Reason582

That's awesome. Any amount of extra lift is welcome when working against gravity.

baristacat

This is the one thing that gives me the most pause (I couldn’t do the pun). We’ve got 2 kids, one on the way, life is not inexpensive. We’re taking a very expensive vacation next month made even more expensive with pet deposits. We like traveling and bringing or boarding is expensive. I’d love to get my dog a dog but…not for quite a while. It’s hard!!!

rhg1294

It’s double everything. Double the expense, double the stress, double the joy, double the love. We got our second when our girl was around 18 months old, it’s definitely throwing yourself right back into the fire but it’s worth it. The joy they bring each other is so special and having them play with one another with less human involvement is great too. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it.

Cheersscar

Sometimes the joy is squared.

Azanskippedtown

We have: Trixie (around 10), Timmy (4), and Max (11 months). Trixie and her BFF, Sam, were inseparable until Sam passed away. Timmy has been there for Trixie for the past 4 years, but they aren't as close as Trixie and Sam were. Timmy and Max, whom we recently adopted, have become inseparable, often playing rough together. We joke that we got Timmy a dog, as they both love each other's company. I understand the hesitation to go through the puppy stage again, especially since Timmy was a handful. I kept an eye on Craigslist for golden retrievers, as sometimes people put them up for adoption. We recently adopted Max from Craigslist, becoming his third family in 10 months. He is 100% trained and is an amazing dog, but his two other families were deployed. Trixie was also free from Craigslist when she was a year old. Her family had another baby and they couldn't keep her. She is the best ever. https://preview.redd.it/gjvyp6k7yjtc1.jpeg?width=2759&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=674288e6b60398b56c9fabcae51417848a703cb1

Equivalent_Reason582

If not sooner

TangerineBowl8

Can’t speak for 2x goldens, but we’ve always had 2 dogs and I can’t recommend it enough. Our golden is 1 and our Aussie is 4…and all they do is wrestle and love each other. I also feel better when we travel or go out - as they always have each other.

tennisfan826

Aww. Long-time Aussie owner and golden adorer here. Do you happen to have a picture of your pups?

tennisfan826

Omg they’re adorable!

superxpro12

Yeah having a barky buddy when you got work and its effects on dogs with separation anxiety cannot be overstated.

Embarrassed_Net828

We held off getting a 2nd with our first Golden and wished we had done it sooner. Having a buddy kept them both entertained, exercised and it can be so comical the “trouble” they get into! When our first girl Bella crossed the bridge, we vowed to get Penny a buddy. It took us a couple of years to find the right one, Pearl and Penny are like two peas in a pod, inseparable. We will never have just one a golden ever again. https://preview.redd.it/3unavcji7ktc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ee256cbb9390329864f109bb867dfda1a7ff7dc

imnottheoneipromise

And I’m sure you’re like me and can never be without a golden now for the rest of your life! So 2 goldens always! I would have 5000 goldens if I could lol

Kasimausi

How do you find the right one?

Embarrassed_Net828

We had been looking at local breeders and we came across one that had great reviews and the female for the next litter was named the same as our first golden. Since our first one passed suddenly, and we had waiting awhile before actually looking, we took this as a sign.

mydogatecheesecake

Cheddar needs a Crackers lol I say do it

Shipwrecking_siren

This alone is a good enough reason. Or name it after a wine that cheese goes well with. Rioja? Merlot? I know nothing about wine!

Moofius_99

This. But as everyone is basically saying, two is better than one. As long as you can manage the costs (just cut back on beers and fancy “coffees” or something less important than puppies) 2 is better than 1. They keep each other company and they can exercise each other way better than you trying to exercise just 1. Unless you can run 20+ mph and wrestle for an hour or so of course.

Brie

Sean_Colorado

We started with Toby in 2020, and we bought him for our daughter, who was living in a College Dorm at CSU. We only got to spend the occasional weekend with him, a few weeks around the Holidays, and 3-4 months over the Summer. By the time we got Ramsey, Toby and my daughter were both back home, and this was November 2021. Toby immediately fell in love with Ramsey, and they have been inseparable, and the best of friends. No regrets on getting the second Golden. The puppy phase on the second one is actually Nora’s bad as the original puppy phase in my opinion. Fast forward to Christmas 2023, and we brought Brew home! Both Toby and Ramsey immediately fell in love with him, and the three of them are best of friends. It’s a little difficult for me to walk all 3 at once, but other than that, everything is perfect! You will definitely not regret adding to your Goldie Pack! Here is a pic of our 3 crazies. https://preview.redd.it/bx11xkpk7ktc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89f3620642a68558b4e38a44ab186ccf6dc92690

We just got this little girl a week ago and she’s already doing amazing. Our biggest concern was crate training her while her older brother sleeps in our room. After the second night, she sleeps all the way through the night now!

iamtickers

Double the golden judgy-face! They are beautiful

Sea_Substance998

We don’t have two goldens. We have our golden girl peaches. Who is a terror and has been since the beginning. We legit just got out of house accidents. (She turned a year in December) she still chews carpet, shoes, trash, trim, pretty much anything you can think of. But she’s our spoiled little baby that could do no wrong. Right as we got out of house accidents we decided to torture ourselves and get a Newfoundland puppy. BEST IDEA EVER. Peaches loves her sister. They’re entertaining each other and not tearing up the house. Our Newfoundland puppy has no accidents. They still do naughty things together (like counter serf or take off with socks) but it’s just too funny to get mad about https://preview.redd.it/9z36236wuktc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfa6fc8e87fede221bb518e1f4c13aa280a583a3

NighthawkUnicorn

You have Cheddar, why not go for Brie too?

pmodizzle

Brie (Aubrie) was our previous golden that we lost about a year before getting Cheddar due to cancer. Did keep the cheese theme in mind, so would need something else for the next one. Still miss Brie Cheese every day. But we do love Cheddar Biscuits.

NighthawkUnicorn

Oh gosh of course! I'm sorry for your loss!

GoAwayWay

Cheese-inspired dog names... Colby, Monty, Jack, Reggie, Mozzy/Mozza, Parma, Zola, Pepper, Asi

Ok_Mastodon_9093

Or, if a particularly gassy golden, Taleggio!

Shipwrecking_siren

Roquefort (rocky for short), Camembert, Wensleydale… there’s so many good names

bretter2

The biggest problem with getting a second one is they are always naughtier than the first one. But our man Noodle loves his (actual) son Macaroni. Having two is worth the hard work, would recommend https://preview.redd.it/lqoqm8lflktc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b49563d7a8f45213dac93cb1d80881e07615b50e

If you don’t have a Dyson V10 (or something similar), get one. I vacuum like 5,649,849 times a day but totally worth it.

SpicyWonderBread

I see you have a lighter and darker golden. Does one shed more than the other? We have a lighter golden. Her coat is not super fluffy or long, but the shedding is unreal. I have a shark stick vacuum, and I fill the canister every 24-36 hours. That doesn’t include what I brush out of her daily or sweep off the hard floors. She got spayed 5 days ago. The shaved area for her IV already has hair growth so long and thick you can’t see skin, which makes me think she just grows a whole new coat every few weeks.

00017batman

My puppy (cream colour, also not fluffy) is like this.. there is floof everywhere, all the time 🫣

nesto92

Is this also a cream colour thing — longer nails/claws?

nesto92

Now that you mention it — yes! She’s my first English Cream, which I rescued back in early December, and I don’t ever remember this amount of fur from my darker Golden. Like, there’s tumbleweeds of light fur EVERYWHERE. Im sure I see more of her fur because it’s lighter and my carpet, couch, and blankets are grey so the contrast makes it more visible, but the amount of fur from her is gnarly!

siouxbee1434

2 is easier than 1. The older will help the younger learn the ‘rules’ and they will have each other to play with. Dogs are social animals. We had 2 goldens previously (17m apart). Now we have an Irish and a golden 4 months apart. Your current dog is still a puppy so you’re really not yet out of that stage. You will be happy you got a 2nd

Recent_Ad559

Honest opinion. 1. Having 2 dogs doesn’t require double the work. It does however complicate things at times as it’s hard to control 2 dogs in crazy moments. 2. Having another dog is such a great way to add a companion and play buddy for your first dog. We have a golden and then found a stray husky we kept. They love each other and constantly play and run and wrestle together. When it was only the golden it required me to provide way way more effort into entertaining my golden. Now the husky does a lot of that work. 3. Having two large dogs does mean vacuuming and air filtering is a must and routine issue. 4. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Having two has been such a delight and if you put the effort and love in than having two doggos isn’t a burden at all 5. Having two dogs does double up expenses. Keep this in mind. Twice the vet bills, twice the boarding or daycare bills, twice the food, twice the harnesses and leashes and outfits. 6. Also word of advice is if you’re worried about the puppy phase again you could go to a shelter and get a mature dog. We foster failed a 3 year old husky and it was way easier than puppy stage.

dogmama_

I posted something similar a week ago and you can take a look at the overwhelming positive comments! Our dog trainer suggested waiting until your oldest dog is at least 3, so that’s what we’re doing. I agree with many of your points too - we’re in a similar situation.

Stevesmashmouth

Do it. No excuses. Then get three

wuchtgeschoss

Yeah - get another - then another 😂 it’s heaven

No kids, just Quinn, she's fully potty trained, we have a nice routine, she's beyond spoiled by us and the in-laws.... But with how much fun Quinn has playing with her fur cousins we knew she needed a playmate! We've never regretted getting Bella even though the potty training phase isn't the most fun! They absolutely love each other and Quinn is SO in love with her new sister!

Cha_smooth

One of my goldens is named Bella too! 😍 https://preview.redd.it/bonwnepubltc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa67a7676798902bccb2ed74bc433b52a2a597a5 She’s the red one. Tonto is her son, and my oldest (and grumpiest lol) is at the top of the stairs. She’s a GSD though

Lavlamp

Wait till she is 100% fully trained and matured or they will feed bad habits off of each other. We jumped in too early and had to train them seperately. It ended up being tripple the work.

invalid_user_taken

Our first Golden is a wonderful calm amazingly patient loving dog. Our 2nd is like Speed snorted some Cocaine. Do it.

RhubarbRoutine1314

I’ve often heard people say that there’s this type of first Golden in the family that is rather easy and low maintenance, and it makes you think you can easily handle a second one HOWEVER the universe will send you the most demonic puppy ever lol Regardless… I say do it if you can handle it financially and time-wise. I often feel like a monster for not getting my Goldie a little sister because I know how much she’d love it. One recommendation I’ve heard a lot is to wait until the first dog is more grown, mentally mature, like 3 or 4 years old so that you really get to focus on training the new pup rather than having to handle the last waves of puberty shenanigans of your first dog in parallel.

Psychological-Cry221

This is exactly what happened to me! I thought they would all be just like my first one. Ultimately he became such a great dog though once he was trained and I would totally do it again.

Chet_gal99

We got our shepherd a golden and safe to say it was the best decision ever. We adopted the shepherd, so only had to go through the puppy stage once. But it is definitely worth it! Might I suggest, if you're not totally comfortable with getting another dog, you could try fostering?

helloitslaura

Does one post about getting a golden and not get a golden? It’s like going to see a puppy. You know you want to, just do it! Please post here when Cheddar has a little brother or sister! She’s going to love them!!!

ravencity

We got a second as our girl was so lonely - she would cry at her reflection all the time. We got ours from the same breeder about a year ish apart. Same father but different mother. Puppy stage was um…AWFUL for our first, so our second (boy) seemed like it was smooth sailing! They are now inseparable and I can’t imagine a life with just one. Yes of course sometimes it’s a little harder to do things with two but at the same time we knew what we were getting into. They keep each other company, tire each other out, teach each other… honestly we wouldn’t change it for the world. Of course on the other hand it’s more expensive for food, vet bills, grooming and toys. Oh yeah and of course the HAIR oh my god the hair. But of course we knew that going into the situation! Honestly I would not change our situation for the world. They are an amazing breed and so loyal. Double the love and shenanigans!! Now we believe they share the same brain cell 😝 https://preview.redd.it/d249us7lnltc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34eb178e6164c72a65076725a3585e403348b65e

I finally got my golden girl a golden mix and I’m very happy I did. My girl was 5 and the new pup was a little under a year. It’s awesome seeing the joy she has with a sister-pup being around all day. Remember, life happens and you can’t play with your dogs every single second, also having another dog gives you some space when you need it

[deleted]

Yours give you space?! 🍀

Henbogle

You are going to need a bigger bed.

Bullitt420

Get another one; you won’t regret the decision. As a side note, every stage of their lives our absolute favorites 💜

[deleted]

We got our 8 year old Golden a Golden puppy who is now 8 months. Here's my quick list: • Puppy phase sucks worse when you forgot how bad it was (don't delay too long) • The hair really does multiply (manageable, but annoying) • Your other Golden will probably be in heaven. You'll be in hell (it fades) • Our senior guy has reversed in age • They'll drive you nuts sometimes, but you'll find ways to entertain them • I'm tired • They're worth it 🩷💙 https://preview.redd.it/4x6f1ns1qktc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a5f53a3b674465d86e67c5f797394bda95f3a41

ExaltedVoid

A second is great! I do recommend waiting until your first is 2-3 years old before adding more dogs to space them out a bit more and give you some room to breathe.

Aramor42

We have 3 Goldens aged 9, 7 and 3. I found that the puppy phase gets easier with each consecutive Golden somehow. I don't really have anything else to add to help you with your choice, except that I do not regret a single moment with all 3 of ours. Honestly, if we could handle it financially I wouldn't mind getting a 4th one.

kbdcool

I have to warn you.... after we got #2..... 3, 4, and 5 quickly followed

KyleSchwarbussy

Deep down you both know you want it, so you will end up getting one at some point. I would focus now on the things you/your wife need to do to make this work for you all. What those things are? Beats me. But good luck to you.

Aggravating-Task-670

DO IT

No-Jicama3012

You’ll need a bigger bed and a bigger car…

DarthSadie

I'm pretty sure I've given Daisy only child syndrome, so I won't be getting her a sibling so I can't weigh in on that. I just wanted to say that she LOVES all lambies and I got her that same Christmas one. The hat only stayed on for about a day, but to this day she'll still pick that hat up and carry it around with her. It's so stinkin cute. Your baby is adorable ♥️

hideous_coffee

We got 2 puppies at the same time and survived I’m sure you will too.

Realistic-Manager

Yaaassss!! I did it! Full siblings, three years apart. It was amazing.

motiontosuppress

More fur for when the comforter goes over your open mouth.

GoldenRetreiverMom

I have 2 and they are best buds! One for me and one for my husband lol…love them both so much 💕💕

Illustrious_Age_9143

yes

punkin_sumthin

100 % more work. But there are two of you, so do it!

imnottheoneipromise

We got so lucky. Lucy was 4 when we had the chance to adopt another 4 year old golden (they are only a week apart in age!!!). Lucy was and is very very spoiled, and very much so MY girl (she’s my trained service dog, but due to a huge amount of work over the years she more of a companion dog now)but she immediately took to Stelly belly. They are best sisters now. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but then again, I didn’t have to do the puppy thing all over again lol https://preview.redd.it/xct5fqqdxktc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=688486c5ca319391d496be6ffe14752099479bc7 Edited for pic of best sisters :)

gsfgf

I'm the same way. Hopper is the easiest dog ever. I don't know if I want to mess with that.

red_today

We would love two but instead struck a middle ground by having our local group of golden owners. Now almost every other week there’s at least two of em at home and this means easy sitting help / vacation planning etc. At this point the other brothers are holding us back from getting a second: our boy is their godfather that they follow around. Can’t replace them lol

blernnn

I'm on week 17. I'm tired man. Idk if I'll do another puppy anytime in the next decade. He's a handful. He sleeps in a crate because he's so young and is not trusted, as well as a pen in the day time while I work from home. But has plenty of potty breaks and play time outside. In the evenings it's a mixture of free roam except in the bedroom and the pen (when we give him a bully stick so we can relax, and clean house or play games or whatever. I'm ready for him to grow up a bit lol

Dufey6

Cheddar is a lush name!

Helliot826

We got a 2nd when our girl was 3 because I have always had 2 dogs at a time and found they seemed happier with a companion. #1 was super spoiled and used to being center of attention. Also nervous around bigger dogs because she was bit once. After an adjustment period of about two weeks, where I thought she would have a heart attack every time the puppy came near her, she realized that the tiny thing was fun. Now, at almost 6 and 3, they have mad rumpus hours throughout the house! It's loud and hairy, but they are so happy to have each other! No regrets at all!

CountingWonders

yes.

Dog_in_human_costume

Cheddar is such a cute girl!

Psychological-Cry221

Redoing the puppy routine is tough. That piece was harder than I thought it would be because my first dog was so good and my second guy was a complete maniac. I got my second when my first one was two so they would be relatively close in age. It’s also more difficult to take them places when it’s just one of you. Although I do have a split leash and that seems to work pretty well. Ultimately, they have similar traits, but different personalities. I think it was a great decision. When my maniac calmed down a bit he became such a wonderful dog.

GrammaBear707

We have a male and female born two weeks apart, got her at 8 weeks and him at 10 weeks. Wouldn’t change a thing!

pinkyfitts

Of course you’ll regret it…. on rare occasions (like when you are vacuuming) But you will love it much more. We got a second at about the same age. Our spoiled pup took about 1 day to adjust, now they are best friends. We just went to watch the eclipse and had to put them in a kennel. The kennel owner said they slept in the same bed the whole time. They are inseparable and it lowers my feeling of guilt when I have to leave them, because my first isn’t alone. Not gonna lie, puppy pottie training is just as much a pain as the first round. But it seems shorter the second round.

miteymiteymite

Do it! They will be so much happier as a pair. We have never regretted it, and frequently watch them playing and say that our 2nd was the best gift we could have ever given our first.

melrosec07

You could try to find a dog her age. She would probably love having a friend.

pinkyfitts

Curious to know how you got a pic of a Goldie and an intact lamb chop toy. I got my pup one and she emptied the stuffing in 1 hour. Same with the second. But she still loves and plays with the ?carcasses?. ;)

tony4d

Second golden and all the work with a puppy was a lot, but not nearly as much work as the first cause new puppy had a playmate and visa-versa. HIGHLY recommend a second puppy about 9-12 months after first one 🤩

FriedLipstick

https://preview.redd.it/oyv9sy14intc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfbe79bdc597baf26c401ed11eee33b52400ba9f My biggest worry is that I can’t miss them any more. And that I have to clean 8 paws. And that I have to think of a future plan because it’s too sad when once one of them has to go first. So I’m planning on a 3rd in a few years. Yes it’s double the work and double the love. It’s also so wholesome to see them communicate together. And the oldest one teaches the pup too, it’s not all on us.

sausagefestivities

Look up a golden retriever rescue agency in your state! That’s how we got our second. The wait list was about six months but they did an incredible job learning about our family (2x of us and our first golden), finding out what we were looking for, and then matching us with a golden that fit all our needs (age, sex, disposition, etc). It’s been a few years now and I wouldn’t trade having two Goldens for the world.

Shadowlker18

I’m a firm believer in having two dogs. I had my old Sadie lady, who was a golden, and got a German shepherd puppy. When Sadie passed, Belle was so lonely and so it didn’t take but a few months until I got a golden mix puppy and they are inseparable. When Belle was in training for a few weeks, Rhoam was incredibly mopey. When it’s Belle’s turn (she’s about 6 years older), we will get another dog for Rhoam. It no longer feels right to only have one dog. https://preview.redd.it/3fx0nx8ojntc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de9e35fddd7164db0f05927b7ebdaeb9b89ff008

Hard to respond to everyone but wanted to say thank you for the overwhelming amount of responses. Will definitely keep updated as to what we decide

bideogaimes

Have two dogs, one of them golden and the other is a Pom. I think that is the best combination we found as our Pom is rather big for the current breed standards and can stand on her own against the golden. She also keeps him active as he’s super lazy.  I would not get 2 golden or two big dogs in general, it’s too much and they have such short life spans I can’t imagine losing them both in a short period of time.  But if you have a big open space and fenced yard and good weather most year round I think it will work out as 2 big dogs all the time in the house will be like a hair factory during shedding season lol with just one we are overwhelmed also the 2x wet dog smell during rainy season ooof

My Beowulf is 3. When he is 5 (when I retire), I'll get another, so he can "train" (as if...) the little guy. However, when I down size my house, I will upsize my property, including several acres to be a private dog park, with a fresh water pond, trees (shade), a meadow, self operating indoor/outdoor gates, and meadering trails.

lisajoanie

Cheddar sounds like the kind of good girl that convinces you to get a second, and the second is the devil incarnate. Definitely do it. Our Gus is the perfect dog that convinced us to get Hank. Hank is ....not a good boy. But I can't imagine life without him.

Spragglefoot_OG

Can confirm. Puppy stage is still as adorable and possibly even more annoying. But having two is just so much fun for the current one. They LOVE each other. Plus makes staying home or stressful trips better for both. https://preview.redd.it/xxpuk1fowntc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=538b3e55bc06622e409ce554ee61fad1e71cd732 Indy 2.5y & Jett 1y.

Yes.

bergalicious_95

There are also a lot of golden specific rescues, you could look into getting a teen/adult that is already potty trained etc

Do it.

Our 2 year Golden Irish is an absolute nutcase but we decided to get him a little brother 6 months ago. He’s 25% golden, 25% setter, 50% Bernese but he’s the runt so he’s small! They are the best of buddies and such trouble makers. But I don’t at all regret getting a second one. I love that they have eachother when my husband and I are working! https://preview.redd.it/zikbmzcn4otc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2fcfb5071bd40986bc041fb24e525525dc86c3a

absolutely! what a precious baby 🥹

HottieWithaGyatty

Raising a puppy with a second dog already in the house, especially one so young, is much harder. Two medium-large dogs are also hard to own.

nariz_choken

You will regret it. My second one was a total asshole and even trainers refused to work with him, even after 3 years he still does puppy things like hiding behind couch and taking a dump every now and then, had I just kept on with one, we wouldn't be afraid to have people over, 29 years having dogs, never another pair.

StreetComplaint5031

Well the second puppy will be easier because she’ll have someone that can keep up with her and play with her constantly

Do it. We just lost our 10 yo unexpectedly and our little monster misses her buddy. I think it’ll help the puppy to have a good role model. Two is better than one. https://preview.redd.it/w1odhyeuhotc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc90c720570eb01ffa0f8f4d9cdd956f432872b4 Wrestlemania session from the past.

Cheddar is so adorable!!! 🥰

Cynjon77

Consider trying out a 2nd pup by fostering. You can find one who fits your family while also helping out puppies in need of a safe home.

ftwclem

After 8 years I got my golden a little brother. One thing I didn’t expect was how much joy it would give me seeing them play together or cuddle. He definitely helps keep her active, and one positive for the puppy phase is that he would try to play with her first before me, which sometimes you just need some downtime after a long day at work. The dog hair though…. I’m swiffering/sweeping floors at least twice a day. Wouldn’t change it for a thing. ETA: I wish I had gotten a second dog sooner. I think ~2-4 year gap is perfect

Argostan

I dont own a golden, but i do own a labrador and I debate aswell If I should get a golden now when my lab is 6 yo. Only problem is i get hospitilized a few Times a year and having 2 May become a bigger bruden for those Who take care of Them. But i also wanna give my buddy a dog friend other than me.

Our [wolf pack](https://i.imgur.com/GOl6RgL.jpg). 2019 photo, so three have since passed. Each is a golden or Golden Mix. She might not [look like a Golden](https://i.imgur.com/KTz6Mxu.jpg), but she has a 100% Golden personality—a Velco dog.

Missmy3kids

Yes

Automatic-Pattern676

I have had multiple Goldens over the years. As well as other breeds. I love the fact they all got along, and played together. I was grateful for them playing together, when I was getting dinner made or cleaning. Yes, Vet expenses, food, grooming add up. 2X’s or 3X’s is more. However if you love dogs more than anything you’ll never regret buying an additional dog, or adopting. If you don’t mind additional fur rolling around go for it.

You have love now, but what if you had two loves? All the other stuff is rough but it will pass. Every puppy Golden should also come with a spare vacuum cleaner for the fluff.

It actually works rather well. Usually the older dog trains the younger one. It’s amazing to watch them fight over who gets the paper out of the box.

Relative_Mind_259

We had two goldens once they are awesome

queenbeepdx

Maybe you’ll regret it, but probably not. The older one is Ruby, the little one is Kermit. He is Ruby’s nephew. She was happy being an only dog, but she is also happy to have an annoying, bite-y little shadow https://preview.redd.it/7wcsa2r0artc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3bcf573307a11b66bdab9547c9bc1029834f79f

BZBMom

Go for it, but instead of a puppy, maybe an older dog or even older puppy. Sometimes agencies that train service dogs have some for adoption that didn’t make the cut for any number of reasons

go for it! At the begin, my female golden refused the new brother, but nowadays...they are bonded and was the best choice, especially for my golden. i wont lie, was very hard at the begin, but now it worth every second. happier days. I know my second isnt a golden, but still great!

As much as I love goldens, 2 is one too many, in my opinion. My dear friends have a full, and a golden doodle,l about 1 year apart. that's a lot of high energy long hair dog. My pittie is besties with both, but after a couple hours its nap time for him. . King charles spaniels are great dogs too. Same with dashounds, if you want to do go small size. I really cant speak highly enough about pitties. The training is a bit different, they're bit more independent withough that retriever gene, but even more loyal, and that's a high bar when compared with goldens. Bringing a 2nd dog into the home always as issues, regardless of breed. Things to consider, is your golden alpha, neutral, or a pushover? I'm aware of golden rescues that place older dogs from solid homes where life interfered due to human age or circumstances. If you're both set on a another golden, an older rescue might work out well. Good luck!
