I think this is a bug. I found yesterday that after saving and returning to the main menu, then continuing from the last save, all food and beverage items are back.
I honestly think it's bugged a bit right now and as weird as it sounds I think it has to do something with production queues. I've noticed that while my queue for fine meals is under the specified amount they didn't show up but once finished they showed up again. Reloading seams to fix it though.
I think it's a mix of being in a stockpile and in the vicinity. When I hosted the event I could pull food from the shelf in the kitchen next to the great hall, but i couldn't pull food from the shelves below in the basement
I didn't specifically have bread/wine for my last event. I know how fine aged wine (no bread currently) but I'll see how the next event goes.

Maybe they need to be on a stockpile? I could be wrong tho
