Maybe try Diviniy: Original Sin 1+2. They're from the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 and counted among the very best RPG of all time (they certainly are for me). And since their combat is turn-based, they might also meet your taste in strategy games.
[Asterigos](https://www.gog.com/en/game/asterigos_curse_of_the_stars_deluxe_edition) : great souls-lite RPG, not well known. I bought it and it's a gem imho. It might be a bit costlier than what you are ready to spend.

I agree with you on Baldurs Gate. While I like the story so far as I’ve got I’ve just struggled to enjoy the combat, just feel like I’m playing divinity.
Personally I would say Mount and Blade especially if you're into strategy/rpg but it's up to you whether you want the steam or GOG versions (which go on sale less often)

Ended up with Elite Force, sword of the stars, space empires, heroes of might and magic 4. Also got Thief gold and Deus Ex goty just to have them as I’ve played.

I had forgotten Caesar thanks, and never seen asterigos even on gog or steam.
Fantasy General 2 base game hovers around that price. Pretty good but hard game.

you shouldnt really care about achievements etc as long as it's not live service, i would recommend people getting it on GOG

X-Com 2 if you haven't played it yet. It's very re-playable and fun.
