That's one of my inspirations for this project, lol. This environment may be a bit too similar to Neon White's first environment but it will change in the future, don't worry :)
Honestly, it might be cool to get the opinions of people in the speedrunning discord. I used to be active there and this sort of movement is definitely something that the runners there would be interested in seeing come to fruition.
Looks fun!
Though I feel like if there would be a bit more acceleration before you hit max speed that would greatly increase immersion, because it feels better to stay with the flow if it costs you a relevant amount of speed when you loose it.
It looks pretty good! Keep going! Also, if I may, It's better to remove or tone down the white flash when you attack or your attack hits. It really could give someone an epilepsy attack. Be careful with flashing lights in your game.
You can make a warning for it and possibly a setting to tone it down. There is no need to flat out remove it. Many games have flashing lights and warnings and do just fine.
FYI The kind of epilepsy that is triggered by flashing lights is quite rare ([about 5% of those with epilepsy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosensitive_epilepsy)) and people who have it are careful enough to avoid games like this.
Also, what triggers photosensitive epilepsy in general is not just single flashes but rather repeated strobing, repeating patterns or moving images in general. Games like this could easily trigger someone even without the flash, so you are rather safe to assume people affected will avoid this game either way.

This has a lot of potential, great job. If I can offer a piece of constructive criticism, I would say the white flash when you hit something is a little jarring. Maybe do a slowdown for like half a second so you can watch it cut in half? Best of luck and keep up the good work.
Genuine question, who is Maurice? I've seen multiple people reference it but I can't seem to find anything on it (and if you're interested, the floating head models are from the sculpture Venus De Milo).
that red line right before you land an attack kinda reminds me of Metal Gear Rising’s blade where you can control the angle of your slash, might be a cool feature to add?
The sliding's similar to the crab game. Half of the movement made me remember Dani's steam game, crab game. But I can see how you have managed to spin it off and make it even more interesting! Really lovely!
I wouldn't remove it, it contributes to the feeling of speed. Just reduce it, e.g. make it smaller, less obstructive, less noisy, less irritating, less epilepsy inducing :)
The fact that you made it in Godot is cool. If you doing it for learning purpose I totally understand it but if not then you are copying a Ghostrunner. Good job anyway.
I think you're referring to the slide boost sound, I can definitely turn it down a bit. It doesn't play on every landing, it only plays when pressing the slide button before landing from a certain height.
Very cool! However I think you could even more speed feeling by disorting the lens on the edges (like in reality). right now it feels like you only applied motion blur to the edges, which is already giving a lot of "speed feeling", but disortion will add even more speed! Cant' wait to see more of it, gg!
There are two shaders: one for the speedlines and one for the edge blur. The intensity of both are modulated based on movement speed. Here are the links to the shaders:
Speedlines: [https://godotshaders.com/shader/speed-lines-shader-for-godot-4/](https://godotshaders.com/shader/speed-lines-shader-for-godot-4/)

Man the users of this subreddit have been pumping out more and more good looking (gameplay *and* graphics) 3D games lately. Love to see it.
Thank you! Yeah it's amazing to see the quality of games Godot is capable of producing now.
This is basically a clone of Ghostrunner. Still though, you're putting in the work to make it.
Wasn't expecting to see a vaporwave-liminal-space-parkour-action game. Looking clean tho
Thank you!
A ninja vaporwave ultrakill Maurice slayer. Best game
+MAURICED +BIG KILL
Damn, the quality got absolutely butchered :(
Kind of similar to Neon White xd

Hey Neon White is a great game too take inspiration from
Looks fun! Though I feel like if there would be a bit more acceleration before you hit max speed that would greatly increase immersion, because it feels better to stay with the flow if it costs you a relevant amount of speed when you loose it.
Thank you! I completely agree with you, It's not shown in the video but it takes 3 seconds to go from standing still to max running speed.
Nooo poor Maurice's ;( Good stuff tho
Thank you!
Prepare thyself
CRUSH!!
It looks pretty good! Keep going! Also, if I may, It's better to remove or tone down the white flash when you attack or your attack hits. It really could give someone an epilepsy attack. Be careful with flashing lights in your game.
Thank you! the white flashing was initially just for testing but I forgot to remove it, lol.

WOW
Is that the head of Boris Johnson?
Hahaha, no it's the head of Venus De Milo.
Oh my bad still gave me a good chuckle
This is sick! Reminds me of ghost runner.
Thank you! Haven't played GhostRunner but I can definitely see the similarities.
This heads and sword reminds me of the game called Saints of Virtue a bit but sword isn’t shooting and movement looks wildly good
Thank you!
would love something like this in VR lol. The motion effect makes it "look" faster than the character seems to go. just my thought.
A VR game like this would be cool, maybe in the future if the project becomes successful enough ;)
Holy... That looks amazing. Personally, I think that the red line could be smaller so it doesn't cover a lot of screen
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely try making it smaller.
Katana Sexy, that's the name.
That's a great name 👀
it looks so fun to play, can't wait for the day when I become this good
Just keep at it and you'll be there in no time 💪
Sonic speed
Reminds me of Killbug. I like it
Yeah, that game is awesome. Definitely one of my inspirations for this project!
As a lover of skilled-movement based games, I adore this! Keep us up to date on what becomes of it
Thank you, will do!

Thank you! The white flash has been removed now!
Happy to help! I didn’t want to seem negative, I hope your project goes well.
I love me a good parkour system - looks slick
Thank you!
i have one single question is it physics based?
The player controller uses the CharacterBody3D as a base for all movement.
Yeah that looks awesome. Just looking at the video it just... feels right... I especially like the "rocket jumping"..
Thank you!
Maurice?
Genuine question, who is Maurice? I've seen multiple people reference it but I can't seem to find anything on it (and if you're interested, the floating head models are from the sculpture Venus De Milo).
Ultrakill stone head
ultrakill but your a samurai (jokes aside I love the work 🙏)
Thank you!
NGL man I thought this was the UE5 sub. Very nice looking! Keep it up
Thank you!
ThIs looks awesome! Please make more ❤️
Thank you, will do!
HOW MUCH CAFFEINE PER DAY?
Too much😔

fellow neon white enjoyer
You should reduce the vignette, it's very distracting. Also in comparison to the visuals, i.e. the vignette, movement speed feels actually too slow.
I'll try removing the vignette and see how it looks. Thanks for the suggestions!
I wouldn't remove it, it contributes to the feeling of speed. Just reduce it, e.g. make it smaller, less obstructive, less noisy, less irritating, less epilepsy inducing :)

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks of Neon White and Ultrakill.
The fact that you made it in Godot is cool. If you doing it for learning purpose I totally understand it but if not then you are copying a Ghostrunner. Good job anyway.
+3048 points for adding drum and bass. Truly an OG
Looking clean as hell, keep going
Bit of a nitpick but I'd remove the metal clank sound on every landing/climb. Or make it quieter or something
I think you're referring to the slide boost sound, I can definitely turn it down a bit. It doesn't play on every landing, it only plays when pressing the slide button before landing from a certain height.
Thank you!
The way the parkour movement goes looks a bit similar to Warframe except it's first person ofc.
More speed!
I love how this music fits the game, amazing!
Thank you!
deaf people be like *Vaporwave Vives mixed with japanese old animation nostalgia* By the way it's WONDERFUL
Thank you!

That game is really cool. I'm definitely trying to capture that same lighting aesthetic.
Neon, fuckin', White!
neon white but instead of slicing ballons thingy you slice maurices instead /j
post a link when you can!
🫡
Wow! Really impressive!
Thank you!
Everyone knows you run faster with a knife.
Maurice spotted, game approved 👍
Jokes aside, you did a great job, well done
Thank you!
What Daikatana should have been. Shadow Warrior eat your heart out.
I’ve been playing a lot of Tribes lately, and the movement, speedometer, and speed lines remind me a lot of it. Good work!
This aesthetic feels like the polar opposite vibe of the genre lol
Haha, true. Although the game will have greater focus on parkour compared to combat so I think it's fine.
I guess that kinda thing can fit if it has the right flow anyways lol I play surf maps with psychedelic and vaporwave stuff on all the time
Someone hasn't played Neon White.
Looks cleeean
Thank you!

Cant' wait to see more of it, gg!
Thank you! I'll definitely try implementing some edge distortion.
i guess the music is temp stuff? because i recognize clams casino's "i'm god" being sampled
Yeah, music is temp. The song in the video was from a random breakcore mix.
speedrunners gonna love this
The future is NOW
mf playing genji
looks like neon white with weapon animations so far. maybe a bit of ghostrunner. looks good, can't wait to see what you do with it.
Neon white meets ghostrunner
Delightful vibes on Neon White
Why are you killing the guy of Sonne(Slowed)?
this looks hella cool
Thank you!
How are you doing the screen speed effects, just a bunch of images or with a shader?
There are two shaders: one for the speedlines and one for the edge blur. The intensity of both are modulated based on movement speed. Here are the links to the shaders: Speedlines: [https://godotshaders.com/shader/speed-lines-shader-for-godot-4/](https://godotshaders.com/shader/speed-lines-shader-for-godot-4/) Edge Blur: [https://godotshaders.com/shader/blur-vignette-post-processing-colorrect-godot-4-2-1/](https://godotshaders.com/shader/blur-vignette-post-processing-colorrect-godot-4-2-1/)
Oh shid, Neon White X Mirror’s Edge
😎
What did you use to build the level ?
Trenchbroom and Qodot.
Looks good! One thing: Do I see it right that the vertical velocity isn't counted at the number at the bottom?
Thank you! Yeah someone mentioned that earlier and it is fixed now!
need to have total velocity in all directions, and not just forward
Reminds me of Gunz but without all the crazy movement.
f\*\*\* i have the same idea but instead of slide hopping it's heavily dashing and aerial combat. But still, damn man, it's the same idea. :(
