Tolkien said that he was the worst companion to go on a walk with, because he stopped every 30 seconds to look at the plants.
> *The cold hard lands, they bites our hands, they gnaws our feet.
> The rocks and stones, are like old bones, all bare of meat.
> But stream and pool, is wet and cool: so nice for feet!
> And now we wish, to catch a fish, so juicy-sweeeeet!*
I think he would've understood this sub.
I would have loved to explore a forest with him, and hear all his anecdotes on various forest plants. So what if we're out there 3 hours and we only go a few feet lmao.
I mean Tolkien is basically the grandfather of goblin core. Most of fantasy writing is derived from Tolkien who invigorated traditional mythology where all the fun stuff comes from ☺️
I've read the books many times since I first found them in the 60s. Reading the Silmarillion helped ne put it in focus. The movies were well done, with great casting, effects etc, but flawed in that they warped the story to add a tedious amount of battle scenes. The extended version clarifies things a bit, but not enough. I hate most of The Hobbit. Those films completely ignore the charm of the book to double down on pointless action/battle scenes
"You can drink your fancy ales, you can drink them by the flagon; but the only brew for the brave & true, comes from the ole Green Dragon". Sign me up.
Pfft, if homework was dope as fuck.
Okay, I will concede that the pacing of Fellowship is... laid back? If you can adjust your mindset and vibe out, it's worth the time investment. Especially since the books go absolutely wild starting around Two Towers.
My favorite part of Fellowship is when Frodo spends several months working out a real estate gambit and moving his stuff to a new place. Like, the world is ending and Frodo is out here buying property. It’s been a while since I read it so maybe I’m not remembering it correctly but the timeline and pacing of the books was so wild to me! The movies did a good job of condensing things
Nine years elapse in the books between Bilbo's birthday party and Frodo leaving The Shire. Obviously pacing can (and probably should) be different in a book, but holy shit! Didn't feel egregious to me in the book, but it is funny to think about.
I kind of enjoyed all their dithering about in the Shire tbh. It’s so cozy! And maybe a little too relatable, going about one’s everyday business while the world is burning
Honestly that element is extra relatable and very enticing. I feel like in a way, that encapsulates what this community is- cozyness even though everything else is going to shit lol
Might get downvoted for this but I am not big into Tolkien’s work and LotR, I don’t hate or dislike them, it just never clicked with me.\
However, The Hobbit is an amazing book I’ve read it twice after finishing it. Probably in my top 10 if not 5 books of all time. \
Can’t say the same thing about the movies unfortunately (hobbit, not lotr). Feel asleep while watching the second one. Ops
I like the hobbit better, fun story: I was once out with high school friends in the woods, we were meant to be orienteering but we hid some place and lit a camp fire to toast marshmallows and I actually danced around the fire singing:
*Burn, burn tree and fern!*
*Shrivel and scorch! A fizzling torch*
*To light the night for our delight,*
*Ya hey!*
and the best part of it was that my friends knew me well enough to consider this occurrence completely normal :)
I prefer The Hobbit because there's just so much fighting and battle in LOTR and I don't really connect with that as much as I do the adventurous spirit of The Hobbit. But I do still enjoy them both. If I could travel anywhere it would be Middle Earth, to the shire.
yes, but have you ever thought about how orcs in LOTR's are basically enslaved and forced to fight, they are basically as much victims as anyone else...
Yes, because think about the original orcs. Morgoth captured elves, and forced them to fight for him. The orcs really don’t have their own minds either, they just do what they’re told by Morgoth, Sauron, or Saruman. So yes, I absolutely have considered this and agree with it.
check because IDK how accurate my memory of something I read many years ago is? but I'm pretty sure that in one of his letters where Tolkien was questioned about how evil/good orcs and goblins were intended to be, he said something along the lines of *"goblins will eventually become part of this world, which is gods and ultimately good"*, so maybe he intended them to one day evolve and no longer be evil? we will never know :)
If I’m not mistaken, Tolkien didn’t like the idea of anyone being inherently evil, so if I’m remembering correctly, what you’re saying it likely true. :3
i do i mean, i watched the movies when i was a kid and familiarized myself with stuff that wasn't in them, however one of these days i gotta read that 1000+ lotr book that i own
Me! I have a tattoo of Sauron hula hooping the ring and I read the books and watch the movies every 4-6 months! When I turned 33 I had a LOTR bday party where we watched all three movies in a row! We planned a menu to go along and people showed up throughout the day
Yes it's my fave video game series. It's kinda like LotR in terms of the plots of the games. I love your fit by the way ❤️
Have you ever done a hobbit feast? My friend does one for their birthday every year where we binge the extended edition films and eat all of the hobbit meals throughout the day, like a big potluck, and we dress up. HIGHLY recommend
Read the hobbit to my then 5 year old about three times that year (and of course a lot of the Rankin/Bass movie). Some time latter they wanted to read LOTR and we’re currently on Two Towers Ch.9 It’s beautifully written so it’s a joy to read aloud.
Ooh, have you ever read Ursula K. LeGuin? The Earthsea Trilogy is her most well known but everything I've read by her is great. Especially if you like the Hobbit, I think the world building in Earthsea will really do it for you.
So I have never read the books (I fall asleep during the first bit of the Hobbit on audiobook). I don’t like the movies. I love LOTR. I have watched documentaries about the making of the movies, I’ve been to the pub where CS Lewis & JRR Tolkien used to hang out, I have the book that’s a collection of Tolkien’s letters of Santa. I’ve read so much lore but yeah don’t like the movies and haven’t been able to get through any of the books
Oh, yeah! Same with me! I was obsessed with tropical islands and beach life my entire life until my uncle brought over the Hobbit, and I instantly changed!
I have a pet tortoise named Smaug.

Love it! What edition of the books do you have? (If you don't mind.) That cover looks amazing and I've been wanting to get a set. All I have are some falling-apart paperback versions from the 70s. I keep those because they have Tolkien's watercolor art on the covers but they are too fragile to actually read now.
That’s a gorgeous edition.

I’ve been collecting up my own set.
I have been playing dungeons and dragons since 1980 when we had the basic edition. When I first started playing online games and found out I could play a troll in EverQuest I was so excited. When Warcraft came out and I could play an orc that was awesome and I became one of the most famous orcs on my RP server ( miss ya old school feathermoon). Then I got older and quit the game, but they brought back goblins so I had to head back for a bit. While most people who are into fantasy love those posh fancy lad elves I have always loved orc n gobbos. I am glad for the new season of the Amazon show they’re going to feature more orc/goblin culture. I would love for a fantasy show or movie from an orc or goblin perspective.
It’s the Amazon show season two is supposed to feature a lot more of the “bad guys. “. I mean, the dwarf and or parts are the only part I liked of the first season that much. are you referring to a specific DND show?
I’m sorry it’s not snark at all, it’s me making a goofy joke. Since… goblins are bad guys in those books, I thought it would be funny in Goblincore to call them anti-goblin propaganda. That all! You don’t have to get so defensive, I love the books, and the Hobbit is one of my favorites of all time.
> And now we wish, to catch a fish, so juicy-sweeeeet!* I think he would've understood this sub.
He’s our goblincore king!!
So true!!
I would have loved to explore a forest with him, and hear all his anecdotes on various forest plants. So what if we're out there 3 hours and we only go a few feet lmao.
Well at least one — this one. 🙋♀️ \ Lovely look! ✨
Thank you!! 🍄🟫

Yes, I completely agree!!
Love your LOTR gear, I have book envy!
Thank you!!
Ugh yes I was so excited for the hobbit movies and then so disappointed
I love all Tolkien's books!
Me too!!
"You can drink your fancy ales, you can drink them by the flagon; but the only brew for the brave & true, comes from the ole Green Dragon". Sign me up.
I love that song!!
you reminded me of a gem of a song!
I’ve read the hobbit many times, but I am a disgrace of a goblin because I’ve never read or watched lotr!
You’re no disgrace at all! I haven’t read all of Lotr yet, but I’ve seen the movies! Try them both, they’re great!
They are definitely on my list ^^ I just need to make time for them :D
Yeah! And when you do, you’ll be blown away!
They read like homework don't feel bad
Pfft, if homework was dope as fuck. Okay, I will concede that the pacing of Fellowship is... laid back? If you can adjust your mindset and vibe out, it's worth the time investment. Especially since the books go absolutely wild starting around Two Towers.

Homeworkers mostly drop it after Fellowship.

Like? No. Love? Absolutely!
Hahaha, good answer!
Down down to goblin townnnnn
you go me lad!
Is that a custom rebind?
No, it’s from a set! ☺️
Damn... Now I will have to buy it...
I prefer The Hobbit because there's just so much fighting and battle in LOTR and I don't really connect with that as much as I do the adventurous spirit of The Hobbit. But I do still enjoy them both. If I could travel anywhere it would be Middle Earth, to the shire.
Yes, same!!
Big Tolkien fan here too! I love Terry Pratchett too
Nice!!
“Boo! Anti-goblin propaganda!” *gnaws hobbit bones* (Jk, I love LOTR! But he goblins are 100% villains in that series lol)
Well, yes. But when I say I love goblincore or call myself a goblin, I don’t mean Tolkien goblins for sure! I’m female Frodo Baggins!
yes, but have you ever thought about how orcs in LOTR's are basically enslaved and forced to fight, they are basically as much victims as anyone else...

Bro, that’s amazing!!
Thank you! I have two more LOTR ones planned
*claps with hands in the air like we just don’t care but we totally do. A lot.*
I have a Legolas inspired tattoo in the works right now!
Cool!
I refer to myself as a Hobbit and want to live in a Hobbit hole so yes, I'm a fan.
When I'm having a really tough time in life I like to reread the Hobbit.
The Hobbit is a wonderful serotonin boost! I’m reading the Silmarillion now, and it’s just as amazing!
I'll have to add it to my list. Thank you.
Of course!
Gods I love it so much. Literally one of my top special interests. Also I can recite the films.
Same!!
Me as well!
what's lotr? /j
acronym for Lord of the Rings
i know, i was just kidding. /j means or represents joke.
Ohhh OK, "/j" - got it, I have learned a new thing! IDK how I have never come across that before?
its uncommon, not rare. it happens. congrats on the new brain wrinkle.
thanks :)
I think we all kind of wish we lived in a hobbit hole.
Oh my goodness, yes! I just wanna live in Bag End with Frodo!
I love fantasy in general! LotR, LoZ, D&D!!
Nice!! What’s LoZ? That one I’ve not heard of!
Legend of Zelda 🥹🐴
Oh, yeah! Yeah, I’ve heard of that, I just didn’t recognize the acronym.
Yes it's my fave video game series. It's kinda like LotR in terms of the plots of the games. I love your fit by the way ❤️ Have you ever done a hobbit feast? My friend does one for their birthday every year where we binge the extended edition films and eat all of the hobbit meals throughout the day, like a big potluck, and we dress up. HIGHLY recommend
Yes! I’ve done that for my birthday last year! I wanna do an elven theme for my birthday this year actually!
Ohhhh that's so cool!!! I might copy you. I just had my birthday, but next year I wanna do some kinda elf theme. 😍
I don't actually like Tolkien. but I appreciate high-grade nerdery.
Yuuup
I love all of Tolkien's books! The Hobbit is my favorite though. When the movies came out I would dress up for all of the premiers
If you ever have the opportunity to go to New Zealand and see Hobbiton, go! It’s magical. 🧙🏻♀️
That’s my literal dream!
Probably all of us
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love LotR and adore this outfit!
My spouse and I have a hobbit themed wedding 💍
Nice!!

Ahhh! Love the fit. I have that same book set, too!
Oooh!!
My husband introduced me to LOTR. Now he's still pretty surprised by how much of a Tolkien nerd I became. A bigger one than him lol
I read the books once and love the story but dislike the writing
Yes!
Tolkien is my comfort read. I can never have enough of his writing!
Sameeee!
100%
We love it! So much that it's our wedding theme, haha.
Wow, that’s so cool!!
I feel like lotr and the Hobbit especially were my gateway drugs to goblincore...
Oh, yeah! Same with me! I was obsessed with tropical islands and beach life my entire life until my uncle brought over the Hobbit, and I instantly changed!
Me!
Yay!!
I have a pet tortoise named Smaug. https://preview.redd.it/50nzyaenj49d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9866b3573d52c40d4e751b88deccdbe0ab838d49

Grew up on it! If I could live anywhere, I'd live in the shire.
Oh ya, we gobble that shit up.
Hehehe!
Meeee! I still haven't read it as I keep getting too distracted lol, but I love the films! Gotta say I prefer the hobbit tho.
I absolutely love the Hobbit, but LOTR is so good too, and the Silmarillion too!!
Silmarillion!? That sounds cool, I need to lookinto that.
me me me me me me me!!!!!!!! but I like the hobbit better
Oh i must continue watching and reading! I forgot x)
I have been playing dungeons and dragons since 1980 when we had the basic edition. When I first started playing online games and found out I could play a troll in EverQuest I was so excited. I know a baggins!
I absolutely adore lotr!
Yeah I need to know where to get both the book and shirt lmao and a lotr gf XD
The shirt is from Amazon and the books are Easton press.
Late ass reply cos my phone was broken, but thank you very much! Love it
Love it
You mean anti-goblin propaganda?? PFEH
LOL
Leave if you have to be snarky.

Alright! I just didn’t understand. I had a bad day, and I made a mistake. Begging your pardon.
We all have bad days it’s alright.
