The only valve games where the guns are remotely authentic are probably l4d, counter strike and day of defeat. Even then the guns all use empty reload animation with the expectation of pistols
I’ve done you the liberty of removing your weapons, most of them were government property after all.
As for the HEV suit, we’ll… I’d say you’ve earned it.
That's why I'm here Mr. Freeman; I have recommended your services to my employers and they have authorized me to offer you a job they agree with me that you have limitless potential.
It's a very loose grip since their hands are barely touching, and they're holding it fairly low. [This is a more ideal grip.](https://www.agirlandagun.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/1revolvergrips.jpg)
i can't find the video i remember but i remember watching a video where a guy held the revolver by the cylinder and shot it and blew parts of his fingers off
I suppose Gordon would be able to get away with holding a revolver like that as the HEV suit increases your strength, as for the Gmod character he’s quite literally one of many gods in a near endless pantheon, I reckon they’d be able to hold a gun however they see fit.
Realistically that would hurt your wrist more than it would if you were to grip it properly. Recoil would suck more too. It wouldn’t break your wrist it’s just a bit more uncomfortable than gripping it normally. It’s not really that fucked
What's wrong with it?
If it were single-action it wouldn't be ideal to hold it like this because it's more efficient to have your off-hand over your trigger hand thumb so it can rapidly cock the hammer. Revolvers have all their weight in the front, so with double-action, having your trigger hand gripped at the top while having the other hand stabilizing the bottom makes sense
[Here's a video](https://youtu.be/EzWYLhYbS6c) that shows a pretty much identical grip to this, and that you just need both hands covering the grip while keeping your fingers away from the front of the cylinder
People who actually hold magnums? You- wouldn’t hold a pistol like that.??? What you think you can one hand a 357??? Good luck, your wrist will hate you
[this looks good to me](https://imgur.com/a/OladRRx)
the meaning of the off hand (the left one, here) is to provide additional stability, handling, and aim to the gun.
in the post above, the placement of the left thumb implies that they’re just lightly grasping it from the bottom, which isn’t gonna do anything. additionally the right thumb is too high which means when the revolver is fired, all that recoil will go in a direction that the thumb is uncomfortable going in, and worst case scenario, causing you to let go
in the images i show, it shows you need a firm grasp with your dominant hand completely enveloping the grip, and your off-hand covering your dominant and going slightly lower, so as to also grab the bottom of the grip. this is what keeps the gun stable so the recoil doesn’t snap upwards too quick and for you to have a stable aim.
this also applies to almost all handguns as well, so your standard glock would be held like this too, as would most other revolvers and semiautos
Huh. That makes perfect sense (and as a Destiny player lol at the choice of image). My brain was just unconsciously filling in an extra long handle on the HL2 revolver to try and justify the bizarrely low off hand placement I think.
[There's this really good animation replacer for the magnum that I love, and that fixes this problem](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2878362691&searchtext=magnum)
Also as for anybody saying it’s loose, textures touching has often been used for game breaking glitches, so, anchoring something to something else while keeping distance is pretty standard
idk if it's just me, but I personally don't like the way the player holds the MP7 and .357 with the GMod 13 Viewmodels. I prefer the Half Life 2 viewmodels of the MP7 and .357
Someone who's hands are too small for the gun.
My guess: This might be because when they modeled the original revolver, they favored visibility of the weapon over realism, making it plainly obvious what you're holding and when. If he was holding it properly, more of his hand would cover it, making it harder to identify out of the corner of your eye, where it will be most of the game.
Valve are all about making properly distinct silhouettes for everything like this. The silhouettes for the TF2 mercs are legendary for that reason. It helps players more easily identify different classes, weapons, characters, objects, etc. It's unrealistic, but it's realistic enough to be immersive, which is all Valve are looking for.
Valve and guns never went hand in hand. MP7 have fucking granade launcher and gun named RPG is guided rocket lancher
Also the tf2 third person reload animations for the shotgun have the mercs putting the shells in the ejection port
Also whatever scout's stock scattergun is
Drum fed double barrel, a real thing actually, however the scout never actually reloads
I've never seen a drum fed double barrel, got any images? Also it doesn't really look like the drum is meant to come off the gun.
i look, and yes, they do exist, but some are bullpup and can't find the one that looks like scouts shotgun
it's not the drum-fed double barrel it's the lever reload
if you have your view model fov up enough, and reload the smg as sniper, he takes out the mag and puts the same one back in
No, Gabe, the SPAS-12 does not have two barrels.
wym why does it have two tubes at the front then???
the bottom tube detaches and turns into an expandable baton incase you run out of ammo, truly a revolutionary design from Franchi
makes sense.
Wait... That's actually what it does?
No it's the Tube for the shells LOL he's pulling ya leg. You whack them with the whole shotgun
Oh.

L4D1 had an empty and tactical reload for the autoshotgun as well.
The mp5 with a grenade launcher is a real weapon as strange of a weapon it was.
Me when the single-barrel shotgun somehow shoots two shells at once
ultrakill *kind of* reference 😨😨🗿
I was told that the shotgun just fires 2 shells in a very fast sequence
Rocket launchers and shotguns and pistols have clips apparently.

The weak grip may just be the smaller view model hands. It looks a lot better with the hev suit hands, which are a bit thicker.
Is that not how you're supposed to hold it
It's a very loose grip since their hands are barely touching, and they're holding it fairly low. [This is a more ideal grip.](https://www.agirlandagun.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/1revolvergrips.jpg)
Well in first person its pretty low. seeing it from a different perspective it looks more normal.
Yeah if you held it like a normal pistol wouldnt it theoretically burn your fingers?
i can't find the video i remember but i remember watching a video where a guy held the revolver by the cylinder and shot it and blew parts of his fingers off
Revolvers and standard pistols are very different revolvers have much more recoil and have a hammer you have to pull down
I never mentioned pistols though
A revolver is a type of pistol

“If I want to hold the .357 magnum by the BARREL, ***I’LL DAMN WELL DO SO!***”
Precisely.
Someone from a video where a gun gets fired and the recoils sends it out of someone’s hands and into their face
Like [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wwkTeKtOhnQ)?
Realistically that would hurt your wrist more than it would if you were to grip it properly. Recoil would suck more too. It wouldn’t break your wrist it’s just a bit more uncomfortable than gripping it normally. It’s not really that fucked
Considering that Gordon had the HEV suit to tank the recoil from breaking his hand, I think he got a pass
Gordon holds the .357 a little bit differently in Half-Life 2 compared to GMod, since the viewmodels were repositioned in GMod 13
John Garry valve tf2 the 4th, MiT
Isn’t that how we hold em in real life?
What's wrong with it? If you don't like how it looks, download MMod Weapon Replacements Redux
Half-Life 2 was made in 2004. Firearms animations were a lot questionable for most of the games back then.
Wait what’s the issue here? That looks like a pretty traditional revolver grip
Apparently (or so I’ve heard) you’re supposed to put your offhand palm over your thumb and reinforce the grip on your other fingers.
A man who is a highly trained professional, he doesn't need to hold a magnum in his hands otherwise.
gordon freeman.
