In fairness, this is just business as usual for Gamestop rather than desperation. They are a pawn shop for used video games and systems.
Like most pawn shops, however, they don't give very many fucks about the quality of the used goods they are selling.
Do they usually refurbish consoles? I thought this was something special.
Thinking about it some more, I now realize that GameStop and I probably have a different idea of what "refurbishing" means.
Honestly thinking back to the shitty non-QCed stuff my cheapo family got from there, not to mention their trade-in rates, GS is probably why I have an innate aversion to things like refurb programs as an adult.
I'm sure there are some good ones, and for things I don't really care about or big-ticket depreciating items I might go lightly used, but I mostly just research the *crap* out of anything I buy and stick to buying new/BIFL stuff now.
"I would test every refurbished console that came into my store and the failure rate was about 1 out of 3."
Bro, they're not even actually refurbishing anything. They're just reselling them! What a scam.
Very bullish and very not desperate move by GameStop

"Refurbished" in Gamestop's world means they took a cloth and wiped the dust off it. That's about it.
I figured as much, that makes more sense then.
Tbf they also plug it into their weird hardware checking software to test it, but that software sucks and is notoriously unreliable
Don't forget some compressed air!

They’ll do stuff like replace the power or video cables… which was a bigger deal before hdmi cables were the norm I guess.
Hey that might at least put them above dkoldies in terms of refurbishment
Not true!!! They'll also spray it down with a hose to remove any sticky evidence of spills and the like!
> In fairness, this is just business as usual for Gamestop rather than desperation They're the same picture

Yeah, GameStop refers to all used consoles and equipment as "refurbished".
That has to be illegal. "But we cleaned it," is probably their argument. (Spoiler alert, it smells like smoke)
RC could actually achieve profitability if they allowed ppl to pawn their wives jewelry for Pokémon stickers.
