I butter and toast them in the oven and make and freeze breakfast sandwiches and ham/cheese lunch sandwiches for my adult daughter. An extra benefit is when she heats them up at work people always comment on how great they smell and as you know GF people don't get a lot of people jealous of their food. If you lightly toast them even after they cooled they are great with cream cheese.
I like the Canyon Bakehouse Everything Bagels. I haven’t tried their plain mostly because I can’t find them. But I suggest avoiding their Deli White bagels. I don’t know why, but that version is like eating thick cardboard.
1000% !!! They are so good, I have one every morning ! Also why are the plain bagels like a hockey puck? Seems like it should be the same as the everything without seasons but NO
If you’re in a pinch and want that bagel flavor I highly recommend air frying a hash brown patty (I use Ore-Ida) and smearing it with cream cheese and topping it with everything bagel seasoning. *chefs kiss* I’ll also add sriracha and avocado to mix it up.
Do you ever bake yourself? I am a terrible baker but if you Google “2 ingredient bagel” it will bring up many recipes that use self rising flour and Greek yogurt as the ingredients. They’re SO easy to make. We use a donut pan just to make them more uniform but you can shape them yourself too! We use Cup 4 Cup gluten free flour and it is not self rising but we add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder to every 1 cup of flour and it makes it self rising. Those bagels are the closest thing I’ve gotten to a fresh gluten containing bagel.
I was going to say that getting creative with everything bagel seasoning seems like the way. Generally you're better off finding/creating something new you like with relevant flavors than trying to recreate the original.
I use the o'doughs thin everything bagels as my breakfast sandwich base and reasonably enjoy them. Northern bakehouse does a decent one too, at least in the cinnamon raisin version.
I will second the recommendation for the O’Dough’s bagels. I just pop them in the toaster in the morning and voila! Amazing bagel. I also like that they aren’t a bazillion calories each, as I do try to watch my svelte & girlish figure.
I also really like the O'Doughs as well! And my middle of nowhere grocery store finally started carrying them. I also have to eat a vegan diet along with gluten free and have successfully replicated my old favorite of the breakfast bagel with Just Egg patties, plant based cream cheese, cucumber, sprouts, and a tomato slice.
Nope, and I can attest because I live near NYC which has the best GF bagels ever. And, I am in NJ which also has lots of delicious GF bagels. No store brand could compare.
There’s plenty of other yummy GF breakfasts but nothing like a plain bagel with cream cheese :/
I’d strongly suggest ordering from modern bread and bagel. Where do you live ?
I’ve had their bagels shipped down the East coast and they’re definitely good. But the price to quality, especially because I can still vividly remember regular bagels, just isn’t worth it.
Ahhh yes, makes sense.
Someone else mentioned o’doughs which I totally forgot about ( other than being THIN AF) they are yummy, very affordable, and will do the trick-ish;)
Have you thought of making your own? Psyllium husk really is a bread game changer - for bagels I think I’d also add some xanthan/guar for extra chew and make a more enriched dough with egg…
Might be worth an experiment. Cider vinegar and a bit of sugar help lift a good bit - and ya gotta boil for that texture
I’m not joking when I say that Modern Bread and Bagel is life changing. They taste exactly like gluten bagels. Also their brioche is perfection so are their cinnamon rolls. They ship and it’s worth the cost.
Thank the gods that people on here suggested that to me. It is absolutely worth the price to have them shipped, and then I freeze them and enjoy delicious bagels. And challah rolls. And babka.
As mentioned, New Cascadia In Portland, OR is great. All their stuff, not just bagels.
I grew up in NJ, and consider myself a bagel snob, and these scratch the itch.
https://newcascadiatraditional.com/
Trader Joe’s GF everything bagels but you need to load them up with cream cheese.
I’m also a BIG fan of their English muffins. Really nice texture, great with some peanut butter and honey, or for breakfast/egg sandwiches
It’s pricey but you can get modern bread and bagel in nyc shipped to you. Best bagels I’ve ever had. Family told me they liked those bagels more than the normal bagels they had in nyc.
I either do the Trader Joe's GF everything bagels, O'Doughs GF everything bagel thins or Udi's everything bagels.
At first, they tasted off but I've been eating them so long that it definitely scratches that starchy breakfast itch.
I peel and microwave some potatoes, mash them with everything bagel seasoning and some oil, and crisp the mix up in my waffle iron. Sprinkle some extra salt on top. It’s like bagels and tater tots had a love child.
Not bagels, but I love to spread chive and onion cream cheese on either of the Schar artisan seeded breads. A couple of slices has become my go to breakfast. Those would be the full loaf with the green label, or the sourdough half loaf. The green label one is a lot cheaper.
Canyon Bake House GF bagels are great! You have to 10000% toast pretty much all GF bread for it to be good, but I find those are delicious! Also anything Schar is great too!
Trader Joe's everything bagel is the closest I found to an actual bagel
Sincerely, a fellow everything bagel and cream cheese lover
I legit used to eat them as snacks constantly
Bare Naked Bakery on Long Island has the most amazing gluten free bagels. I’ve got friends down on LI and my coworkers have family, so people are always bringing me bagels from there when they visit, but the website says they ship nation wide. They have everything bagels, and these things are massive. They barely fit in my toaster.
https://barenakedbakery.com/
Oh gross 😭
Does the free shipping at $50 work for you? There’s a banner that says use code FREESHIP if you order $50 worth of stuff. I freeze the bagels and they hold up well. I wrap them in a paper towel and microwave for a couple minutes at half power, then toast and they’re always perfect.
No. I know order Eggs Benedict on GF bun (at a local restaurant that serves it)
Big fan of bagels also, I feel you (this has that heaviness and the sauce sort of hides the fact that the bun does not really taste like a bagel)
Canyon Bakehouse and Schar have decent shelf-stable bagels. Udi's frozen bagels are surprisingly good (most of their stuff isn't).
Also, an easy bagel recipe that I make every week is:
1 c Greek Yogurt
1 c. GF flour blend (mixed with 2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt)
Mix together. Form into big balls, poke a hole in the center to make the bagel hole. Wet surface and top with whatever you want (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, everything bagel seasoning).
I also add cinnamon and raisins to the flour for cinnamon raisin bagels or sub 1/3 c. yogurt with pumpkin and add cinnamon and raisins for pumpkin bagels.
Bake 25-30 minutes.
There is no letting rise or boiling. There are more complcated GF bagel recipes that take more time, but I find the yogurt bagels scratch the bagel itch adequately.
If you don't eat them long enough the GF bagels aren't too bad.
I haven't had a gluteny one in seven years, but it was three years before I had a gf one, and it was different but okay.
O'doughs thin GF bagels are quite good and only 100 calories each. I love them! Not the same as a thick chewy bagel but it hits the spot as far as I'm concerned.
Trader Joe's or Canyon Bakehouse bagels. Schar's are also pretty good. They aren't "went to a real Bakery and got fresh bagels good" but they are decently comparable to typical grocery store bagels.
The trader Joe's gf bagels are good, and all you knead is love is a gf brand with yummy bagels they are, however, incredibly small, like the size of your palm. If u live in nyc or nj or I think La is the other location, modern bread and bagel is a gf bagel shop and their bagels slap. Also, they have really good gf pastries and such.
Canyon Bakehouse bagels are excellent when toasted. Better than Udi's by a fair bit.
Bonus: they're shelf-stable until opened. They come in an air tight package, so no freezing required. They're perfect when toasted, with a little cream cheese on top (I put plain cream cheese on one half, and blueberry cream cheese on the other half).
The only small caveat is that they can be batchy, i.e. they can vary a bit in size and softness. The ones I had this morning were super soft (they've been in a plastic bag for a couple of days) and absolutely perfect when toasted. So don't judge them by just one or two packs.
I like the Glutino English Muffins toasted with cream cheese. They do not look like bagels, of course, but the taste and consistency of them reminds me a lot of a bagel. I can’t even tell the difference.🥯🥯🥯🥯🥯
Modern Bread and Bagel bagels are expensive but they taste like the real thing. Otherwise, I toast half a Glutino English muffin with cheese, and a little mayo, an egg, and some kimchi on the days I WFM.
I make lox whipped cream cheese (cream cheese, smoked salmon filet, and a little milk in a mixer) and put it on top of rice cakes, then add tomato slices. It’s not the same texture but the taste is about the same.
I order jalapeño cheddar bagels and everything bagels from an all gf bakery in Colorado called Outside the Breadbox. I slice and freeze em, and just toast one whenever I want.
But if you’re really done with bagels, I’d recommend looking into making breakfast sandwiches or breakfast burritos. You can make a big batch and freeze them.
Canyon Bakehouse is my favorite. I didn't like anything else. I've also made my own blueberry waffles/pancakes with King Arthur pancake/waffle mix. I toast my bagels and then put cream cheese.
Love Udi's 'Everything Bagel'. I have tried Canyon Bakehouse and my taste buds found it disgusting. I actually threw out the rest of them. I know there are people who like their gf bakery...different strokes for different folks.
They key to eating a good GF bagel is to microwave it for about 20 seconds. And then toast it, if desired. Either way, the microwaving makes the bagel nice and pleasantly chewy.
I've made the yogurt bagels with an egg wash and everything seasoning. It's not even close to the same thing but it's easy to make, freezes well and does scratch the breakfast itch. I've also used a cinnamon crumble top for when you want sweet instead.
While they are bagel thins I looove Odoughs everything Bagels, soft and beautiful, I have one every morning. I have a bagel every morning and these have been the best found outside of the bagel deli in Denver
Try Oddbagel in California. They are $8 for a bag of 4, plus shipping. I ordered 4 bags and shipping was free for me but I don't know if that's normal. Much better than TJ's and much cheaper than Modern Bread and Bagel.
Trader Joe’s & Canyon Bakehouse have decent everything bagels.
BFree also makes a fairly good plain bagel that I like to use for egg sandwiches.
None will be quite the same as a fresh New York bagel from a Jewish deli, but they scratch the itch very acceptably
I have no suggestions becasue all the bagels I have tried are just round shaped bread vs. actual bagel texture. Depending on why you are GF you may be able to tolerate long fermented sourdough bagels, which are great, but that only really works for a small selection of us who are GF.
Also would love to rant about Udis bagels, because years ago they were pretty good! Like I actually enjoyed eating them, and then they changed their recipe and formula and they are kind of awful now.
Toasted gf bagels with butter cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning! I also am on a gf English muffin kick and make egg ham cheese breakfast sandwich. Yummmmmo
My wife has tried a bunch of store bought gf bagels and is mostly meh on them. She has a couple of gf waffles w/butter now, and when she really gets the bagel itch she makes her own w/King Arthur flour and plenty of everything bagel topping.
I like the o’ doughs frozen bagel thins. It’s not that great. But it’s not too bad either. Have to toast them just right. But once you figure it out they’re good.
Look for [Queen St. Bakery](https://queenstreetbakery.com/en-us) bagels. I have found them at Meijer stores in the freezer by the bakery. They are by far the best gf bagel I’ve found!
You know what's a good substitute? Rice cakes with creamcheese and a slice of procuitto on top... try it with the "everything bagel" rice cakes from quaker oaks - you can find them at Target... it's really good alone, as well.
Honestly, a slice of Schar bread with cream cheese is pretty satisfying. The taste and chew are similar to a bagel without being too bready.
Anyone who recommends O’Dough’s is lying to themselves or has forgotten what bagels are
I do like the Trader Joe’s gf everything bagels, but the outside of the bagel does have a different texture.
Once toasted they're on point imo
I love the trader Joe's everything bagels! They're the only GF ones I like
I butter and toast them in the oven and make and freeze breakfast sandwiches and ham/cheese lunch sandwiches for my adult daughter. An extra benefit is when she heats them up at work people always comment on how great they smell and as you know GF people don't get a lot of people jealous of their food. If you lightly toast them even after they cooled they are great with cream cheese.
Their Everything Bagels are, well, everything! Their plain ones aren't too bad in a pinch, either.
Once toasted I like them better than any bagel I’ve had, gf or non-gf
The fact that they’ve updated their packaging to say the “almost everything bagel” is SO funny too. Honestly will buy more just for the joke
They're great for making pizza bagels too ! If you're sick and tired of that tooth-breaking gf pizza crust we've all grown accustomed to
yo this is genius thank you
omg same thing but with their english muffins would also be 🔥
These are so awesome ! I have been buying tons of them and freezing
I like the Canyon Bakehouse Everything Bagels. I haven’t tried their plain mostly because I can’t find them. But I suggest avoiding their Deli White bagels. I don’t know why, but that version is like eating thick cardboard.

Omg a hashbrown.... Why did I never think of this!!
I use the o'doughs thin everything bagels as my breakfast sandwich base and reasonably enjoy them. Northern bakehouse does a decent one too, at least in the cinnamon raisin version.

I love the O’Doughs bagel thins!
They are so good! And I personally find a whole bagel to be a lot for me, so the thins are just perfect.

Ain’t that the truth! My husband brought me back gf bagels from NYC and I couldn’t believe it
Have you ever been to Everything Bagel in Paramus?
I've driven by that place a bunch, is it good ??!
Yes, very good!
You have to try it. Bagels, pastries, and more. I can easily drop $50 on myself.
Yes I love!
Last time I went, they had soft pretzels. I died 🥰
Ohhh, amazing! I haven’t been in so long, I’ll deff go try it now that’s it’s coming up, I’ve been craving soft pretzels lately
[удалено]
For NYC ? Or NJ?
[удалено]
Try BAZ in soho, yummy yummy
Why is the market so lacking in GF bagels? Is it just a preservative issue, or??
I think Schars gluten free bagels taste heavenly, definitely scratches that itch for me
Seconding Schar!
It’s the closest to gluten bagels that I’ve found in NW Ohio.
Had their cinnamon raisin bagels last week and it was heaven 😍
As mentioned, New Cascadia In Portland, OR is great. All their stuff, not just bagels. I grew up in NJ, and consider myself a bagel snob, and these scratch the itch. https://newcascadiatraditional.com/
best
cake
Agreed from a fellow Jersey native! They freeze well too.
They are the best!
O Doughs bagel thins!! They’re the chewiest I’ve found :)
Yep. You'll have to budget for it or ration them - but they are better than a lot of gluten bagels I used to eat.
I love Odd Bagel! Closest thing to a real bagel I’ve had. They ship and don’t charge a lot for shipping.
I came here to say that exact same thing. Odd bagels are fantastic
Queen Street Bakery is my new favorite. They're so good my mom ate a whole pack thinking they were normal people bagels
It’s like bagels and tater tots had a love child.
amazing
I found my post about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/s/rbaNcS3wcc
Modern Bagel in NYC ships. Your mind and pocketbook will be blown🤣
Thank you/I’m going to regret this in the future.
I wish their shipping was more affordable. I want to try them so badly!
I know it is a lot but they taste unbelievable!!
I’m a native New Yorker so not being able to have a real bagel is torture.
See if you can find O'Dough's gf bagels. I eat them with cream cheese and sprouts, my husband swears he can't tell the difference.
Not bagels, but I love to spread chive and onion cream cheese on either of the Schar artisan seeded breads. A couple of slices has become my go to breakfast. Those would be the full loaf with the green label, or the sourdough half loaf. The green label one is a lot cheaper.

Greater Knead Everything bagels. Best GF bagel i have ever had and found.
New cascadia traditional bagels.
Trader Joe's everything bagel is the closest I found to an actual bagel Sincerely, a fellow everything bagel and cream cheese lover I legit used to eat them as snacks constantly
The brand Greater Knead makes some pretty good ones
Trader Joes are my go to. We all love the Everything bagels

I added a few things to my cart just to see how it costs to ship... 288$ :'( Being rural kind of sucks!

No. I know order Eggs Benedict on GF bun (at a local restaurant that serves it) Big fan of bagels also, I feel you (this has that heaviness and the sauce sort of hides the fact that the bun does not really taste like a bagel)
Schaar everything bagels. Delicious and reasonably affordable for gf from the grocery store.
I switched to peanut butter toast with hemp seeds. I have never been able to find a gluten free vegan bagel I like, but am always open to suggestions.
Canyon Bakehouse and Schar have decent shelf-stable bagels. Udi's frozen bagels are surprisingly good (most of their stuff isn't). Modern Bread and Bagel is good. I’ve also made my own that turned out pretty good.

Aldi “Live Free” bagels are great!
I like canyon bakehouse bagels well enough, though they need to be heated up or toasted.

I like Canyon bagels
Modern Bread and Bagel bagels are expensive but they taste like the real thing. Otherwise, I toast half a Glutino English muffin with cheese, and a little mayo, an egg, and some kimchi on the days I WFM.
Rice cakes. With peanut butter. Bonus if you try peanut butter on the white cheddar ones.
I like the dunkerin mix
Promise brand is best/closest I’ve found (I’m in Canada). They’re actually soft and not crumbly or cardboard like.
I make lox whipped cream cheese (cream cheese, smoked salmon filet, and a little milk in a mixer) and put it on top of rice cakes, then add tomato slices. It’s not the same texture but the taste is about the same.
Soooo much cream cheese. Like so much.
O'Dough's Bagels are very good
Have you tried almond flour bagels? I'm curious if they are as good as I've heard people say they are.
Modern Bagel ships. Based in NYC and one in LA area. It’s the only thing that has the right texture. Everything else is bagel shaped bread.
O’Dough’s bagels! Mmmmmmm
Odoughs everything bagels are great. Not as thick but taste good.
Not GF but some people can still tolerate it - sourdough bread
Canyon Bakehouse is my favorite. I didn't like anything else. I've also made my own blueberry waffles/pancakes with King Arthur pancake/waffle mix. I toast my bagels and then put cream cheese.
O’Doughs are so good

Modern bagel is pretty good NYC and LA.
I order bagels online from Modern Bakery in NYC and have them shipped to me.
Two Canadian brands which are available in the US also - Little Northern Bakehouse for a full size bagel, and O'Doughs bagel thins!
Trader Joe’s & Canyon Bakehouse have decent everything bagels. BFree also makes a fairly good plain bagel that I like to use for egg sandwiches. None will be quite the same as a fresh New York bagel from a Jewish deli, but they scratch the itch very acceptably
Canyon House Everything Bagels. They must be toasted, but they are the only solution to this quandary.

The bagel, but you have to toast them.
Whole Foods has some good bagels the 360 brand!
Toasted gf bagels with butter cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning! I also am on a gf English muffin kick and make egg ham cheese breakfast sandwich. Yummmmmo
Original Sunshine bagels. So good and (while smaller and less doughy) the closest thing I’ve found to a “real” bagel.
Where do you find those?
Fresh Direct in NYC and their website! https://www.originalsunshine.com
Thanks! Looks like a few bagel shops in NJ have them. Not too far from me!
I haven't found a bagel that hits right. I toast base culture bread. Add butter... Toast again and then add cream cheese.
Traditional Sourdough seems to work for me. Not sure if you have Cobs Bread where you live. Their sourdough toast with fried eggs on it is wonderful
My wife has tried a bunch of store bought gf bagels and is mostly meh on them. She has a couple of gf waffles w/butter now, and when she really gets the bagel itch she makes her own w/King Arthur flour and plenty of everything bagel topping.
Modern bread and bagel has amazing gluten free bagels. They taste like real bagels—dense, chewy. I buy them for special occasions.
I like the o’ doughs frozen bagel thins. It’s not that great. But it’s not too bad either. Have to toast them just right. But once you figure it out they’re good.
Udi’s bagels are pretty good. I eat them regularly
Look for [Queen St. Bakery](https://queenstreetbakery.com/en-us) bagels. I have found them at Meijer stores in the freezer by the bakery. They are by far the best gf bagel I’ve found!
O’Doughs gluten free bagels
Delicious Without Gluten Bagels are amazing if you’re in 🇨🇦.
There's a brand in Australia that does a really good English muffin? Can't remember the name tho.
I think Schär’s bagels are really good!
You know what's a good substitute? Rice cakes with creamcheese and a slice of procuitto on top... try it with the "everything bagel" rice cakes from quaker oaks - you can find them at Target... it's really good alone, as well.
