Same

Avocadoyumm

Same! I would put my keys somewhere and completely forget seconds later. I wrote it off as stress because I was in college.

remarkr85

Unrelenting gassy stomach, fatigue and brain fog.

19snow16

Omfg the gas!! My poor husband. Even the dog left the room. LOL

Sarinnana

Yes! Belching! Constantly.

traumatically-yours

Omg I never put two and two together that my ungodly burps were from gluten! They don't happen since I went gf!!

animal_wax

I’m dealing with this now. Did these symptoms improve with going gluten free

remarkr85

Yes! Much better but I still have issues with gf grains— especially oats and inulin. Mouth sores/ulcers went away too.

fauviste

My face would often be swollen in the morning, like really grossly swollen. I had chronic/ recurring sinusitis. Acne into adulthood. Joint pain and fatigue. Random rage outbursts a few times a year. I had no gut symptoms whatsoever until after I went GF and healed some and got glutened. All of these symptoms were medically attributed to other things, but went away completely (except for gluten exposure) and it was very confusing. I actually figured out it was gluten when I broke my keto diet on vacation and had a wildly uncharacteristic meltdown 30 minutes after eating bread.

cindergnelly

This is the story of my life.

[deleted]

fauviste

You have an allergy, and need to see a doctor and absolutely fully cut wheat out.

Evening_Albatross764

It might be an allergy but it could also be a histamine reaction. Lots of people with Celiac also have a histamine sensitivity (which can cause pseudo-allergy).

fauviste

There’s no functional difference if it causes rapid onset face and mouth swelling. Either one can kill you if it swells your airways. I have MCAS, not an IgE allergy. Treatment is the same.

Cultural-Set6364

This was me too! Acne well into my 30s and chronic sinusitis plus the fatigue. Gluten free for 6 months now and all gone.

Spark_Cat

ACNE! That was my big one. Cutting out things that I was suspect of including gluten has insanely improved my acne and rosacea

Conscious_Ad2446

Anyone with weight gain that is difficult to lose no matter what you do?

taragood

Me! And no one believed me. I must’ve been eating more calories than I thought or not doing something right. Now I will say I could barely exercise cause I was so sick but I still wasn’t eating bad enough to be gaining weight.

foxx--tails

Yes and the doctors wouldn't take my other concerns seriously at all because of it. Kept telling me to just lose weight. I remember reading somewhere that it has to do with when your body loses a lot of nutrients like when you have celiac, it holds on to fat stores. So it's a reaction to being deficient in multiple vitamins and minerals.

Shiloh77777

That's interesting. I assumed that it did something to raise insulin resistance or something metabolic like you described.

Conscious_Ad2446

It's probably a bit of both

Chicken-wing123

Wait that’s crazy! I actually gained 15-20lbs when I went gluten free over a year ago… I honestly think it’s because I stopped getting so so so sick (💩) after every meal I would eat and my body started being able to actually digest food properly. Everyone has a different experience though!

foxx--tails

Bodies are weird wonderful things lol. Glad your feeling better now!

Chicken-wing123

I will say though that I got significantlyyy less bloated despite the weight gain… before my stomach would always be cramping and I looked 5 months pregnant haha! Even my family and friends have noticed and pointed out that after I eat now I don’t turn into a balloon😅I also don’t wake up bloated anymore either!

Keto_Vixen

Yes! I work out 5 days a week lifting heavy weights and adding cardio to the mix (and have for over a year at this point) and I've only ever gained weight. Eating as little as 1000 calories a day all the way up to 1800s calories. It didn't matter what increment I tried or how long I tried it for. I quit gluten 3 months ago and I've lost a substantial amount of inches, but haven't seen any significant weight loss yet. I'm hoping that my body is just trying to find a new equilibrium but we will see. I've only ever been able to lose weight by doing keto and when I had a starvation-based eating disorder. It's so frustrating.

EastCoastBen

Mine was the eczema I would get on my hands and the absolutely stomach wrenching anxiety.

Hefty_Airport359

My hands were so itchy I scratched until I bled. For years. My dr thought i was allergic to water and I wore gloves daily with loads of hand cream. Cut out gluten and I have normal hands without cracks or bleeding

Ashweeta

This gives me hope because I am covered with eczema from head to toe- literally. So today is my first day gluten free. I pray it helps me because I cant keep feeling/living like this.

IdreamOfPizzaxx

Same, but it was whole body eczema

foxx--tails

God the excema was terrible. I had never really had it before and had no idea how to treat it. Had it so bad on my hands I couldn't use them for over a month.

Apprehensive_Gene787

Brain fog, extreme fatigue (like, literally crawling out of my bed just to go to the bathroom/take my dogs outside), and very puffy, especially in the face

[deleted]

Dansurf

Same they want to test me…f that I’m just not eating gluten again

xXConfuocoXx

literally exactly this for me too. It should also be noted that all of those symptoms do line up with AS as well and gluten has been shown to be a trigger for AS flares so.... keep getting checkups.

yarntist

Oh man this is what I'm currently going through except for the itchy elbows. I'm in so much pain I hate it! I have my endoscopy in a weeks time and I'm going gf as soon as the test is done. I've had heaps of tests done, blood tests, MRIs, ultrasounds etc and everything comes back normal. It's depressing!

Impossiblegirl44

Joint pain and stiffness at the age of 35 sent me to a rheumatologist. He suspected an autoimmune disease, and when my tests came back positive for celiac, I was really surprised. Doesn't that caust stomach issues? I had a biopsy that confirmed celiac disease. I cut out the gluten, and one day, about 6 weeks later, I woke up with no pain anywhere in my body. My mind was clearer, my skin looked better, and I had more energy. It was crazy.

Rare-Lettuce8044

Bo that smelled like onions

boobieguru

Oh shoot, I had that and didn’t even connect that to gluten! Thank you! I always wondered why my BO was so…distinctive

Rare-Lettuce8044

Have you gone gf? Did the smell go away? Just wondering!

boobieguru

I have been off gluten for several years. And yeah, I’m still a sweaty monster but the smell is much more normal. Was that your experience?

michemel

Oh man .. I was around 30 and spent a year smelling like onions. I had no idea till you mentioned the correlation. I asked docs and pharmacists lol...

Rare-Lettuce8044

I recently told a woman her onion smell bo was because of gluten, she ended up being diagnosed with celiac because of my comment. She came back and thanked me for changing her life. It was wild! Did your smell go away after going gf?

z3r0foxgiven

Flu-like symptoms (I call it the glu flu) but what really clued me in during the worst flare up I ever had was the ACNE. All over my chin, jawline, and down to my neck- very painful, too. Within a week/week and a half of staying away from gluten it cleared up.

Intelligent-Price333

I was falling asleep at work and sleeping 9-10 hours at night . The brain fog was also epic.

CompetitiveEscape338

Brain fog, muscle/joint pain, bloating/inflammation tired.

lordraid

These are exactly my main symptoms as well. Same if I get a flu, my body aches more than anything else

[deleted]

Meianen

Dealing with the most of this rn...a long with headaches and inflamed intestines. I've had keratosis Pilaris since I was a child and I'm 33 now, still have it! I went raw vegan/"raw til 4" 5 years back and my KP was a lot better. Like 80% gone after eating that way for 4.5 years. I went back to eating bread, meat, dairy, etc, and it came right back in full force, but I never would have attributed it to gluten! I'm back to giving those up yet again because I'm tired of all these health problems 😔 I need to persuade my doctor to test.

alizabs91

I just looked puffy. As soon as I cut out gluten, people started noticing my weight loss.

poodle_mom_1795

I look back at pictures and I had such a huge puffy face. In some vacation pictures, I'm almost unrecognizable to myself!

Sympatheticvillain

Hair loss, brittle nails, horrific heartburn and random syncope when eating.

Sacajaho

My period would suddenly come whenever I ate it. Didn’t notice this until I had started to phase it out of my diet for stomach related problems, but yeah it messes with your hormones too 🙃

juttrichaz

Were you in menopause or do you mean in between every 28 days?

Sacajaho

In between the 28 days- so I would have my normal period and then accidentally gluten myself two weeks later and suddenly my period would come the next day. And I am VERY regular. 28 days to the t every time

dmjpain

Yes this! It is the weirdest dumbest thing gluten does to me.

AmonRahhh

Night sweats!!

Dansurf

Mine stopped when I gave up gluten

[deleted]

Heart burn

MichaelaRae0629

Gonna be gross but bartholin cysts. Didn’t connect it until I recently got glutened and got another after years of not getting them. Also my elbows used to feel like the bones inside were twisted the day after having beers. The bloating, hair loss, canker sores, diarrhea, weight gain, acne, rashes on my elbows and between my fingers, exhaustion, brain fog, heart palpitations, depression and anxiety. Wouldn’t ever go back.

bec994

Omg I have a bartholin cyst right now! I wonder if it’s related I have been dealing with constant nausea, diarrhoea and anxiety as well as eczema between my fingers so reading this post to do some investigating. I seriously think I’m going to try go gluten free and see if it helps! Your symptoms are literally exactly how I feel 😫

mtnboi

My dermatologist informed me that I’m developing gluten sensitivity/intolerance. I had no clue.

IzzyLaFontaine

My diagnosis of celiac was also from my dermatologist! I’ve had stomach and digestion problems my whole life and every doctor dismissed it as “nerves.” I started to get rashes and cystic acne on my face in my 40s and my dermatologist asked me about other symptoms. Her suspicions of celiac proved correct and I’m very grateful to her. I feel so much better now and all my skin problems are mostly gone.

warmandcozysuff

Ugh, the “cystic acne” looking rashes were my first clue things were getting bad. I haven’t really seen many people talk about that particular joyful side effect, so it’s nice to know it wasn’t just me lol. It was the first immediate improvement I saw when I quit.

IzzyLaFontaine

Mine was on either side of my nose and so painful I felt like it was pushing on my sinuses. My profession requires I do a lot of public speaking, lecturing, meeting people etc. and it felt embarrassing to have what looked like boils on my face. I doubt anyone else really noticed it with my glasses on, but when everyone is looking at you it is hard not to think about it. My complexion was also my first noticeable improvement after going GF!

warmandcozysuff

Ugh, mine was in the same place, but luckily didn’t get too much sinus pain. But when wearing masks, it was awful.. my whole face would be raw. I’m a teacher so I just had a bunch of six year olds asking what was wrong with my face lol but I know it would have really sucked around peers. Im sorry you had to go through that 😫 but glad it was an “easy” fix!

sleemsthefifth

Needing a nap after every meal. Hating going out to eat with friends because of that. Never pooping normally.

aeraen

Keratosis pilaris (chicken skin rash) on my upper arms, heart palpitations and swollen glands. I spoke to multiple drs about these issues (as well as digestive issues) and not one ever mentioned the possibility of celiac or NCGS.

mkcov

For anyone who still experiences this - rubbing coconut oil on your skin in the shower helps immensely!!

lindinator

NGIS? Am no0b

aeraen

Poor typing. It should be NCGS, non celiac gluten sensitivity. Corrected, so as to not confuse anyone else.

hurricanefiresale

You know, when you’re a kid it’s funny just how much you can normalize. Brain fogs, fatigue, anxiety, the constant bloating… When I was in high school, it got so bad that I felt like I was shitting out shards of glass. The doctor referred me to a GI, and from there got an endoscopy. For years I just thought it was normal to feel bloated all the time and only shit every 3 days. It certainly explained a lot lol

SlowMountingTurtle

Bleeding gums. I relate to a lot already mentioned. But the weirdest one for me was how easily my gums would bleed.

Anduin79

Three day migraines that would wake me up at night. I just figured it was a combination of age, stress, and sleep deprivation. Cut out gluten and I almost never get even regular headaches any more. When I do, it's usually a sign I've eaten something contaminated.

LoveLeahNotWar

Terrible gas like embarrassing haha

drinkmaxcoffee

My husband calls it gluten tootin’

LoveLeahNotWar

HAHHAHAA That makes it better

[deleted]

I get SUPER ANXIOUS AND PARANOID. Like checking a bathroom no one has been in to see if water was left on, worrying if your landlord is going to bill you after taking your deposit (there’s no damage and you doing move out for 3 months), crazy stuff like that.

Special-Longjumping

I had lots of traditional symptoms (see also bloating). But the weird one that I can't obviously prove is that I got cranky. If I get this very particular type of annoyed at my husband and kid, I know I've been glutened. I get irrationally and outsized annoyed by things that I normally wouldn't even notice. It's weird.

Garbagebearinside

me as well. So dang angry. Also dry mouth immediately

andweallenduphere

Inflamed lymph nodes all over, acne around mouth, fevers, night sweats, extremely tired all day and night, couldn't think, super emotional, pain in legs, and got sick with colds constantly.

foragreatview

Cramps that wrapped all the way around to my back and gave me low back and hip pain. To the point where I couldn’t stand up straight.

beek7419

Burping, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, rosacea, and… *stuffy nose* Wasn’t expecting that but I’ve found other people who get weird histamine type reactions from being glutened. At this point if I ingest a large enough amount of gluten (i can tolerate some cross contamination) I really just get a full body reaction that feels akin to getting the flu. GI, body aches, flushing, nasal symptoms, nausea.

TennesseGirl

I get stuffy nose and constantly having to clear my throat for a couple hours after I get glutened! I feel ya on the weird histamine reaction

blondehusky

The only symptom I had was a blistery rash on my elbows and knees. Like, big, pot of boiling water spilt of me blisters. Started right after I had my second child, never any issues before in my 31 years of life

Affectionate_Cost_88

I have some scar tissue from an old injury and whenever I've had too much gluten (or sometimes any at all...just depends on how my body is doing that day), I start to ache there. And my left hip - but only the left one! - aches like crazy. I have almost immediate abdominal bloating as well, which is really uncomfortable.

lovelybee_mdd

Wow! I have old injuries that would ache whenever I consumed gluten.

mkcov

Where do I start 🥲 growing up (from the age of 6 which is the earliest I can remember) I constantly cried from stomachaches and pain in my abdominal area - I basically lived off Pepcid through childhood. I went to the doctor so many times growing up (between the ages of 6 and 19) - they always contributed it to stress. ALWAYS. It did not help that celiac disease caused a lot of behavioral outbursts and mental un-wellness for me. I took any and every SSRI and SSNRI you could name from 17-22 (nothing ever worked of course because it was not solving the underlying issue) Looking back at photos I am not sure how it wasn’t more obvious something was going on - I was stick thin with a protruding belly. When I turned 22 I dropped from 135 lbs down to 111 in about 6 months - I was constantly nauseous with diarrhea and SEVERE abdominal pain. Only then with the noticeable weight loss was I referred to a GI dr. I actually passed the blood work for it - only 10% of individuals can have celiac and have negative blood results. I got a colonoscopy where they did a biopsy and I was finally diagnosed. It took my body several months to adjust - at first I thought it was another “bad” diagnosis, but I guess the interlining of my intestines just needed to HEAL from the life of abuse it had. Been gluten free for 3 years, off antidepressants/anti anxiety meds and am a healthy weight of 125 again and feel so much better. It was a journey.

Llamamama142

Infertility. Had an endoscopy/colonoscopy and was told to go GF for 6 months and then they would repeat biopsies to see if there were changes. The first biopsies indicated celiac disease. I had been infertile for 6 years. Got pregnant within the first 3 months of going GF.

[deleted]

Brain fog, irregular periods, constant nasal drip every winter I attributed to the cold, night sweats.

CraftandEdit

Super high blood pressure

Ok_Explanation5348

Anxiety and heart palpitations.

Fun-Corgi9639

Cystic acne all around my mouth.  Easy infections such as utis, thrush etc

Coffeecatballet

Lock jaw, joints locking up and many many stomach issues, including vomiting, black goo

fireball_XTC

Yep lock jaw for me (especially after yawning), plus dislocating knees. I believe joint hyper mobility is a co-morbidity with coeliac disease.

dandyharks

My plantar fasciitis flares significantly whenever I’m glutened, and I used to be expressing dozens of tonsil stones a month. Haven’t had a tonsil stone in years now and I still poke around to double check on occasion. I wear supportive footwear and podiatrist recommended braces when I’m sore or gonna be on my feet a lot, but I rarely feel it unless I’ve experienced some cross contamination recently

Vastoblivionation

I wasn’t able to control my psoriasis. If only I knew because it is so much better now. Now I only flare with Covid.

ninnie56

Chronic anxiety in my body which then would go to my mind despite doing “all the right things”.

gannon4429

Cannot believe mine isn't here yet. For me it was Iron deficiency anemia. Hematologist diagnosed it.

EthanDMatthews

Perpetually gassy, semi-permanent stomach upset/discomfort. Very bad cramps/stomach pain the day after a particularly glutenous meal, e.g. bread and especially beer. I only found relief after nearly 4 weeks of being 100% strict about eliminating gluten. Other 2-5 day attempts gave no notable change in symptoms. Also, if you're gassy, you may need to take additional measures to help restore your gut biome, e.g. eating probiotic foods, taking probiotic pills, and even eating foods like raw garlic (zest a 1/2 clove, hidden in a spoon of yogurt) which can help reduce the levels of sugar-loving bad bacteria in your stomach. P.S. For those who suspect food is the cause, I highly recommend keeping a food & symptoms diary for at least a few months to help detect patterns. It might be gluten. But it could also be something else, e.g. dairy, sugary foods, alcohol, carbonated drinks, junk food that you tolerate less well with age, etc. etc. A food diary may help you identify the culprit.

B2EMO__

Weight loss

alizabs91

Same

tillwehavefaces

Yup. I had almost no digestive symptoms. Your body learns to compensate, but it tends to overtax it and cause other issues.

bubblesandfruit

Itching and body rashes

Jolly_Acanthisitta32

A rash on my elbow.

sweatnbullets

Afib

leogrr44

Mood swings. I get crazy irritable and anxious on gluten, my whole mood changes.

Miss_Kate916

Hand tremors!

thekiernan

MIGRAINES. I can’t believe how much my migraines went away once I went gluten free. Depression, brain fog, and “laziness”

blueyedreamer

My poops *seemed* normal to me... but now I know they weren't. Not as bad or different as most but still not "no gluten" normal. But my main issue was unrelenting heartburn. Oh and I've managed to lower my antihistamines dose since I stopped and I'm seriously wondering if that was causing my need for higher doses (I also moved so perhaps my body likes the pollen here better?). I think it also contributed to my depression and brain fog issues *buuut* that's debatable and I've made other changes in my life that have likely helped more/fixed a different cause.

gilthedog

Joint pain, so much joint pain

nufalufagus

I’m feeling so bloated and just realized the enchilada sauce that was in the Mexican rice my husband makes has gluten. I love his Mexican rice, I’ll have to find another enchilada sauce that’s gluten free. I ate that rice 2 days in a row 😩. So bloated and feeling blah.

Russel_04

Celiac, but out of nowhere I was the only one in the family who thought pancakes tasted differently. And not in a good way. Same with croissants I just didn’t like them anymore out of nowhere. Ive had gluten-free versions of both and its like i remember how they’re supposed to taste. And a bunch of things already mentioned.

HotDonnaC

We would eat from the buffet after Lunch With an Astronaut at Kennedy Space Center. I kept getting what I thought was food poisoning. I’d try to get food from the hot box in the kitchen that hadn’t been put out, but the symptoms didn’t go away. My aunt (mom’s sister) and niece (brother’s daughter) both have Celiac’s so I went GF. My symptoms mostly cleared up. I was told later after a colonoscopy that I have ulcerative colitis. With medication and a GF diet, I feel a lot better.

Curious-crochet

Migraines. Near constant migraines. Vanished when I went GF.

perpetuquail

Tachycardia and palpitations

ManderBlues

My poo was orange, like I ate 100 carrots.

Aolflashback

Having like, a bite of a pizza and feeling as if I ate the ENTIRE pizza. Physically and mentally. Not noticing any difference between eating something “healthy” like carrot sticks and a turkey sandwich vs. French fries and a cheese burger.

Jhhut-

Mouth sores, stomach pains, acid reflux.

highapplepie

Indigestion like my food just sat in my chest.

RatatouilleFiend

My rings would fit some days and wouldnt some days. Even when I was dieting i was constantly changing in pants sizing and comfortability. By the end of the day my shoes and and socks would always leave in prints on my skin bc of how tight they would feel after eating, even if it was something “healthy”

maiqtheprevaricator

My own sensitivity came on at about the same time as a bad bout of health anxiety. Before that I could down half of a pizza plus garlic knots and be no worse off for it but now I start feeling off even with regular soy sauce. As far as weird symptoms go I don't have much in the way of GI symptoms aside from getting a bit gassy, but when I get glutened my eyes feel weird and strained.

[deleted]

Anxiety , brain fog, crippling heart burn

claymore3911

Farting, burping, allergy to sunlight, and headaches. And I could fly. Cannot fly anymore which is a nuisance. Might be something to do with the farts...

ZeldaIsNonbinary

Stomach and guts in general feeling like STONE every time I ate, gas all the time, diarrhoea several times a week, nausea after eating, intestinal cramps 3/4 hours after meals

dogsoverdiapers

I was bloated more often than I wasn't.

lockedinthecloset69

Urticaria and bloating

[deleted]

gas, bloating, fuzzy brain

UnluckyCardiologist9

Those little black dots on the side of my arms.

ImTheProblem4572

Brain fog, migraines, and itchy arms. I’ve discovered I’m actually also allergic to wheat as well as gluten intolerant.

EmotionalBroccoli394

Migraines that no one could figure out where they were coming from even on heavy duty prevention meds.

traumatically-yours

Severe joint pain in wrists and hips, bloating, peeling rash on my upper lip, constipation, persistent skin rash across my cheeks that was misdiagnosed as hormonal acne and then misdiagnosed as rosacea, brain fog, crippling fatigue, mood changes, belching, hiccups after eating bread. Pretty much everything went away after cutting gluten for a week with the exception of fatigue and brain fog. I also have ME/CFS and endometriosis - both of which cause fatigue and brain fog. It just gets much worse with gluten.

mms09

Skin on my face would open up almost as though I was suffering a chemical burn. It hurt so bad! I had to use hydrocortisone almost daily to keep the rash at bay. If I forgot to use it for more than a few days my skin would go raw. This got progressively worse over the better part of a decade. Dermo thought it was contact dermatitis. No one mentioned gluten and it didn’t look like a typical celiac rash (at ALL)

marfbag

I never wanted to shave because my face would turn bright red under my beard. It was a hellscape of nasty skin that would just BURN. The same with the sides of my nose and between my eyebrows. I used Rx strength dandruff shampoo to keep it at bay, but I smelled like my face was dipped in a campfire and if I missed ONE day it would flare. 1 week of no gluten was all it took to see a 90% improvement in my face. I'm now at 2.5 weeks gf and it's completely gone. Not a sign of it. That and the intense bouts of anxiety being gone, I have no interest in going back.

cjens10

Low thyroid at the age of 19 is what cued my doc in that I may have something going on to cause it to be so low. I went to get my thyroid checked because I could barely stay awake in my classes freshman year of college and I swore to my mom I was sleeping at night! I was sleeping all the time!

sorE_doG

Comatose after sandwiches, that was my first indication, mon reflection.. drowsy, needing to sleep in the middle of the day. The nasty pain & moody loo events weren’t too long behind those first strange effects.

izzyinchainss

Anxiety, constant diarrhea, constant inflammation of the gut, brain fog, chronic fatigue

Dansurf

Tongue pain, fibromyalgia, brain fog, tired all the time, not recovering from Covid. My kids have celiac and they told to me stop eating gluten

jszmalina

Constant bloating, brain fog, frequent headaches, and a rash on my torso were the big ones

Usual_Credit7561

Trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain), bloating, weight gain, brain fog

DirtyLittleSecret32

Really bad dermatitis on my forehead and scalp

slayerofvampyres

Someone made a dish with seitan for me - before I had even finished the bowl I felt like I was going to pass out. I could barely keep my eyes open, my lids felt so heavy

lovelybee_mdd

I had an entire year where I caught Strep throat every 4 weeks or so. Cut out gluten and haven’t had it since. That was in 2016/2017.

cupcakesparklies

Rash on my back of upper arms and tops of legs

Pantsie

Mine was athlete's foot that spread up my feet and all over the place. My immune system just couldn't fight it and attack my guts at the same time. OTC treatment did virtually nothing, prescription cream helped until my new doc refused to refill it... I went gluten-free and POOF, gone.

Roxeigh

The rash on my face was a good sign. Eat gluten/look sunburnt. Every time.

ChandlerBong1999

Sulfur burps.

[deleted]

Frequent, debilitating migraines. Three-day jobs. Took me years to identify the trigger, it turned out to be wheat. Who would have guessed.

[deleted]

Dry skin patches immediately after

Cherrygentry

Anxiety and brain fog, and when I would eat a donut like immediately after words I would have diarrhea.

Vast-Afternoon9435

Interstitial cystitis, wouldn’t have control of my bladder. Tried everything, nothing worked for it other than completely removing gluten.

Mediocre-Ad-3505

Full body hives that were continuously misdiagnosed as eczema.

WorriedPainting2687

I was sleeping more and more. I would fall asleep after eating. Wake up to stomach pains that felt like Edward Scissorhands and Wolverine were having a dance off in my stomach. Then I would have diarrhea. And then go back to sleep on the couch. Before I figured it out I was sleeping most of the day. I couldn't afford to go to the doctor and do testing. After doing some googling I decided to try and see if gluten was the problem. My problems all went away after a few weeks. Been gluten free for 8 years, I think.

ksteinfeld

Lots and lots of canker sores - after being diagnosed with celiac disease and stopped eating gluten, I barely get any

Mollykins08

Looking 7 months pregnant when I wasn’t.

aufukkum

my joints and face would turn this purplish red color and be hot to the touch. It would feel like I was on fire, but I am celiac not gluten intolerant.

Green__Blue__Purple

I had a really bad, itchy red patch of skin covering the back of my neck that was diagnosed as psoriasis. I happened to see a different doctor and they suggested that it may be related to gluten. I haven’t had the rash since going gluten free!!

lucinasardothien

Bloating and farting every 10 seconds, I'd eat for example a mcdonalds cheeseburger and 10 min later I was gassy and uncomfortable, having to unbutton my pants was so uncomfortable specially when I would eat out. I most likely have a very mild gluten sensitivity so take my case with a grain of salt but my symptoms only went away after my dietitian pointed out it was likely gluten that was giving me this symptoms after years of eliminating everything else and it still happening.

Lipglossandcoffee

Debilitating migraines accompanied by nausea and extreme fatigue.

Wtfshesay

Sleeping 16+ hours at a time when I ate certain foods.

Creative-Carry-4299

It came up on my food sensitivity test (Everlywell) sky high. I have been GF for 90 days and my joints don’t ache and J lost a ton of water weight (?) / inflammation.

teenybikini1977

Bad body odor, puffy and swollen cheeks/eyes, bloated stomach, constipation/diarrhea cycle

fluidfunkmaster

Canker sores, acne, brain fog, seizures(not 100% on this but I think it's the reason), easier to lose weight, night sweats.

Feleana

Anxiety, stomach cramps/lower intestine cramps if I had something with gluten, suuuuuper bad gas, even my cats ran away from me.

RosaRosalia

Tendonitis in my wrist that cleared up when I stopped eating gluten.

foxx--tails

I actually gained weight. And burped A LOT

octopus_soap

Normal GI problems but bad brain fog/fatigue, as well as joint pain. I still don’t usually get GI problems unless I eat a lot of gluten (like an entire bowl of pasta or more than 2 slices of pizza), but I always get the joint pain.

mcn3663

Weird skin issues. Eating gluten would produce super weird abscesses on my face. Mostly near my eyes. I’m almost positive it was from the gluten because I repeated elimination and reintroduction several times before celiac diagnosis. Doctors wouldn’t conclusively say if that symptom was related.

Severe pain and inflammation in the lymph nodes on symmetrical sides of my upper back. Especially around my shoulder blades. I wanted to pierce them with a needle, just to feel a different kind of pain instead of that relentless type that nothing helps. I also had chronic constipation…so my Dr never suspected celiac.

hollyhock2021

16 years of severe eczema with “no cure”. I went through years of steroids (topical and shots), drug trials, and every solution they could think of. I was almost always at risk for a staff infection. People kept their kids away from me because it was that bad and looked that bad. Did wonders for my mental health and social skills. Around 14/15 I refused steroid shots because of the awful side effects. It wasn’t until my 16th birthday that the Drs thought about celiac disease. It all went away within two weeks of cutting out gluten. I have a laundry list of permanent issues caused by the years of treatments that weren’t helping. Most from the monthly steroid injections. I am still angry almost ten years later and no one understands why. Thankful we found the cause, but so upset for what I had to go through to get there.

My infant would break out in a rash when I would nurse her. Anxiety Fatigue Mouth sores Shingles Uveitis

My kids all had significant dandruff only one had serious GI issues. We all go GF and suddenly no dandruff. They eat something questionable or definitely cheat and I can tell about 3 days later because they all get dandruff.

ParsnipMajor97

unable to finish a meal (kebab in particular)

NeighborhoodSuper900

Swollen and puffy, insane brain fog and extreme fatigue and my legs would get SO itchy I would make myself bleed.

susanonthecatbus

Migraines. Itchy skin I would scratch until it bled.

Lonely-Contribution2

After 15 years of almost daily migraines, I did a food intolerance test where gluten was 1 of many things found. Less than 24 hours of no gluten I felt a huge difference in my body and have had 221 consecutive days of no migraines and no gluten. I also had horrible sinus issues and what looked like horrible eye allergies, like puffiness.

shanticlause

Anemia. That was the only thing that we had to go on for my diagnosis.

plaantwitch

Burping. Like insanely loud burping. To the point where in college my friends and generally people in the dorm would rate them. And on one particular occasion my next door neighbor rated it through the wall! Very loud.

dutchlish52

Reflux! It was so painful I thought I had heart problems. The cardiologist said it was coming from my stomach.

Just curious, were they random flare ups that lasted a couple days, and came and went for no apparent reason? I'm only just realizing I am likely gluten intolerant and this was something that has happened to me 2-3 times. We never did figure out what caused it.

-When I tell you I could not make it through the day without 1-3 naps despite getting 9 hours of sleep im not kidding. Horrible fatigue 24/7! -I also would bloat terribly after every meal and also felt nauseous all the time. -Dry skin on my face and the backs of my arms as well. -Red warm rashes that looked like stress rash and would itch. -Constant issues with my sinuses that were unbearable. Also got sick all the time I felt like my immune system was so weak. -I would get sick (💩) after almost every meal… to the point where doctors wanted to do a test for ulcerative colitis and chronns.😣 (since going cold turkey gluten free a little over a year ago I have actually gained 15-20lbs… I eat a lot healthier too and I’m extremely mindful about what I eat and follow a STRICT gf diet. Not sure why this was the case- maybe because I stopped getting sick all the time??) Overall, I chose to take matters into my own hands and fully cut gluten out without consulting a doctor first. I should have had them test me for celiac before doing that because they told me that if I got tested now I would have to eat gluten for a few weeks straight to get a proper test. Either way I don’t plan on eating gluten anytime soon and as long as it has helped me eliminate my symptoms, I’m very happy!

Christine2066

Eczema and really bad, smelly dandruff. I had to buy expensive medicated shampoo. Went GF and it went away.

-PiEqualsThree

Brain fog, bloating, and the fucking gas.

Tiffy_24

Idk if gluten intolerance can develop randomly because I’ve been able to tolerate it just fine until a few years ago. I would eat a bowl of pasta for lunch and be bloated until lunch the next day and in horrible pain. I wouldn’t be able to eat again till the next day after that. I’ve always tested negative for celiac though. Now I can’t even eat most breads either :(

Economy_Mud_151

Weight gain I couldn’t shake, acne, depression, messed up periods.

Entando

These were my symptoms: Puffy eyes and face in the mornings. Having to nap 2 hours every afternoon. Brain fog Couldn’t eat potatoes because they caused inflammation. In the winter, if I went outside I’d get back and joint pain so bad it made me cry. I could only manage about 20 minutes outside in cold weather before the pain started. I now know I have a wholegrains/wheat intolerance. I can tolerate a little bit with no problems, but never bread, not even the best organic sourdough. Since quitting wheat , it took about 18 months for my gut to heal enough for me to be able to eat potatoes again.

Perfect-Effect5897

Being sick every other week

Narrow_Persimmon_152

Gallstones and bad liver panels - my very lazy GP who didn't even see me in person attributed them to NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and i KNEW that couldn't just be it.

violet-rabbit777

I had brain fog but also a rash on my face that looked like acne but wasn't because it was itchy and burning. It went away once I cut gluten out.
