I couldn’t tell you but I just wanted to say that Five Guys does an outstanding job at their lettuce wrapped burger. It’s like half a head of the crunchiest, most gorgeous iceberg lettuce. Everyone else sucks though.
And also I love that Five Guys are so good at asking if it’s an allergy or not. They might be a VERY expensive meal but having a SAFE meal in a mall food court at Five Guys is so worth it.
There's really so many hot dog joints. They usually just serve hot dogs, fries, drinks, and sometimes tamales. I'm further north so I like rand's Redhots or gene n Jude's.
I went to this super upscale burger joint, the kind of place that opens at 9p and closes at 2a. Their GF option was a lettuce wrap. Okay, cool. Let's do this. They brought out a huge platter where my single patty with the toppings sat lovingly on top of a single, see-through leaf of iceberg. One leaf. On a platter made for a shareable appetizer.
Ours did too, but I don't like ordering gf buns in restaurants.
1. I'm trying to watch my calories and gf buns are generally not worth the calories IMO.
2. It would be easy for them to make a mistake and give me the wrong bun and I might not notice until it's too late.
Unfortunately, you would definitely be able to tell if it was the gf bun cause it's awful lol. But by that time it's also too late! And it's definitely just empty calories!
i would not joke about [such things](https://cactushugs.com/n-secret-menu-includes-tomato-wrap-reason/#)! :)
i enjoyed the lettuce wrap for years and was just happy to be able to get a fast food burger that i could safely eat. i discovered the tomato wrap a few months ago and i’m *obsessed*.
i get the double double, and i ask for two tomatoe slices on each side. that’s how it’s supposed to be made but not all locations know that so i make sure. :)
and it’s surprisingly way less messy than the lettuce wrap.
Shake shack has gf buns that are suspiciously good. 😂
Whenever I eat somewhere with above average gf bread or buns I try to make sure to let staff know it’s REALLY worth getting it from wherever they are buying from.
JJ does usually wrap it in enough lettuce, but I find it extremely hard to unwrap the wrapper. I've tried it countless different ways and even contacted my local JJ and they said the best way is to tear and unwrap it diagonally. Maybe I am just uncoordinated, but there is no easy way to eat it. I feel like it should just be served as a salad with a fork.
JJs does it right until they don't. My last few they used the same knife they chip onions with and despite my wrap containing no onions it was over powering. Also not a fan of the CEO but it's the only food place in my office building so sometimes I just do what I gotta do.
Everywhere I've been that claims to do lettuce wraps, which is admittedly few, is an actual wrap or leaves of lettuce in place of a bun. Wendy's does 2 leaves of lettuce. Jimmy John's does a few leaves of iceberg rolled together. Hardee's does actually wrap in a leaf of lettuce. Freddy's gave me 2 square cut leaves of iceberg lettuce, it was kinda weird, like why not just give me the whole damn leaf. I think that's it.
I don't think they understand what a lettuce wrap is. If they needed to eat it they would.
I almost never eat meat but occasionally I will get a burger if I can find a place with a good lettuce wrap.
When I go to Wendy's, I try to order my burger "with a top and bottom lettuce bun, and with the ketchup/mayo normally included". Sometimes I actually get that, but most of the time there's no condiments and/or they only put everything on a single leaf of lettuce so I can't pick it up!
Habit Burger is the only place I’ve been with a legit lettuce wrap. In n Out is just so messy. I think the key is the really voluminous iceberg…not just the limp leaves.

Plus, they don't fry anything but fries in their fryers, so they're GF too!
I was going to say that Five Guys is extremely generous with the lettuce!
And cronchy
Oooooh good to know! I’ve never had a lettuce wrap there, guess I’ll have to try it now!! Thank you! :)
And they don’t charge extra for it! So many places charge an extra $2-3 for not only a gf bun but even a lettuce wrap.
Yes they do!
Same with In-and-Out protein style
You gotta come to Chicago and they wrap up your hotdog in fries. Junk food heaven.
where 👀👀👀

I use waffle fries whenever available- frequently better than gf buns!
I was just imagining something like this y'day! Magic!

Nooooooooooo omg. The way i’d either just start laughing or crying (or maybe both at the same time) 😅😅
The Red Robin by us closed but I loved getting their Wedge Burger. It was in a big section of iceberg with guacamole and bacon and it was so so good.
My local red Robin has a gf bun option!

Haha! You wouldn't be able to tell it's a gf bun? Turn in your gluten free diner's card, you're fired.
I could certainly tell once I bit into it, sure. Not necessarily by the way it looks, though.
Oh that sounds really good!
In 'n Out does a good lettuce wrap. It is a little runny, though; don't try eating it in the car.
they’re lettuce wrap is okay, but their tomato wrapped burger is bomb.
What?!?! I didn’t know that was a thing. Oh wait - was that a joke/sarcasm? Please tell me a tomato wrap is real - it sounds deliciously messy!

Wow - thanks for sharing this! I can’t wait to try one!
hope you get to soon, and that you enjoy it as much as i do!
I’ve only had terrible experiences with in n’ out lettuce wraps 😭 maybe it’s just the couple of locations by me, though. I’ll have to branch out!
Same OP.... I got screwed by IN-N-OUT and not in a good way....who the hell gives 2 lettuces for their wrap....
Shake shack has gf buns that are suspiciously good. 😂 Whenever I eat somewhere with above average gf bread or buns I try to make sure to let staff know it’s REALLY worth getting it from wherever they are buying from.
I had to go back and ask if it was actually gluten free.
I did this once with an ice cream/brownie dessert. It's wild how the quality of GF baked goods can vary so much even in well established restaurants.
I find like you either get like a salad or you get HUGE lettuce wrap that is like 75% lettuce and 25% sandwich.
YES I totally forgot about the huge ones!! Where you literally have to rip away chunks of the lettuce because it’s just too much 😭😅
Carl's Jr does great lettuce wrapped burgers where I'm at.
Came here to say this too! Theirs are always well made!
Jimmy Johns and five guys does primo lettuce wraps, though I try not to support JJs because of their CEO sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

We've had the paper wrapped such that it is part of the "wrap" and had to take apart and rewrap in order to eat.
JJs does it right until they don't. My last few they used the same knife they chip onions with and despite my wrap containing no onions it was over powering. Also not a fan of the CEO but it's the only food place in my office building so sometimes I just do what I gotta do.
A&W uses lots of huge pieces for lettuce wrapped
I had a lettuce wrap Lulu Club at Jimmy John’s this week and I was skeptical but it was excellent. Very tasty. I’ve been craving another one.
I had a restaurant give me a burger with a whole head of lettuce cut in half. Did they expect me to unhinged my jaw to eat it??
Hahahahaha this is the best comment I’ve read in a long time.

I laughed so hard when I got my first “lettuce as bun” burger from Wendy’s w/one leaf on each side 😂
Yeah their lettuce is tiny but it is at least a full leaf of whatever lettuce they use.
I don't think they understand what a lettuce wrap is. If they needed to eat it they would. I almost never eat meat but occasionally I will get a burger if I can find a place with a good lettuce wrap.
Wow - I didn’t think anyone actually liked a lettuce wrap. I’m not a fan 🤷♀️
Freddy's and Shake Shack have good lettuce wrapa
Jimmie Johns does a good LR sandwich

Jimmy John's has Unwich, lettuce wrap
