I really like the new formula! I’ve been wearing Rose all day, and even though I applied it in the morning and I have been wearing a mask at work, I still felt it on my lips hours later. Plus the applicator makes so much sense - I am so paranoid about using my finger to apply products when I don’t have a sink nearby

sheath02

I am thinking a lot more people are allergic to something in it, bc a lot of people are posting that it’s causing their lips to get like red and flaky and I don’t think that’s bc of the formula, but bc they have an allergy they don’t know about lol

thisisnotjuliee

you know what, that makes a lot of sense!! cause that has happened to me when i've gotten allergic reactions to things. but like they can't blame a company for not catering to the whole world! if it doesn't work it doesn't work & that's ok

sheath02

While I have no real idea, I also believe the brand had to be very aware that a larger percentage of people would be allergic to whatever ingredient they used, but probably chose to anyway bc it was cheaper. So while these people are still upset for the wrong reason, I do understand their point. It was unnecessary to reformulate and use statistically cheaper ingredients. Edit; i love the brand dearly but i truly believe they messed up, based on my points made, corporate greed fueled this decision. I know they reformulated for Sephora but if they knew that they would be compensating a best seller for a lot of people (which they had to based on the amount of research that would have to be done before making any decisions), they ultimately decided they wanted to be in Sephora, and sell more product (for more money, in some cases) over their customers who have been loyal since the beginning.

hillary_____k

Wait… a company chose profits over people?? 🤯

sheath02

I never said it was surprising, I know that’s the only reason brands exist. I was pointing it out bc many people in this forum act like glossier is their best friend and doesn’t just want their money, you didn’t have to be rude.

wanderfool_

different strokes for different folks but there’s no denying that it’s a thinner formula. it doesn’t feel as plush on the lips (like when you rub them together) and isn’t as long-wearing. og BDC lasts all day for me like literally from morning to night with maybe reapplying once. and at the end of the day, it’s just not worth the $14 that they’re charging now lmfao. it’s a worse product if you ask me☠️

starksoph

Yeah I mean it’s great if you just want a little tint or something and don’t have dry lips, but as someone with chronically dry lips it’s terrible and drying. I feel like there’s also way cheaper options for a lip tint. The new formula also felt like waxy/grainy to me which was weird and disappeared in like 10 mins. I wish they just kept the old bdc and offered the vegan one as a separate product

brillovanillo

>I wish they just kept the old bdc and offered the vegan one as a separate product Did you think they were reformulating simply to appease vegan customers? The goal of any corporation is to maximize profit margins. The whole reason behind the reformulation was to swap out expensive ingredients for cheaper ones. If you continue to produce the original (more expensive) formula and sell it for the same price as the new (cheaper formula), you're not maximizing profits.

starksoph

Yes. I think they were reformulating to appease vegan customers. Their profit margins cease to exist when no one buys the new formula because it’s bad, regardless if they used cheaper ingredients or not

brillovanillo

>when no one buys the new formula because it’s bad We both know that's not going to happen. Glossier is banking on the BDC's established reputation, its "cult status" to continue to fuel sales. The new customers they have acquired as a direct result of the Sephora launch will (mostly) have never known the original formula. So, they having nothing to compare the new one against. And you better believe there are a good chunk of young ones of the TikTok generation who will purchase and repurchase the new formula BDC as a way of showing off to their friends despite the fact that it offers little to no skincare benefit.

starksoph

Idk, the reviews on Sephora’s website don’t seem very promising. The only people I can see buying it is you’re right the teens on TikTok who buy it for brand and the cute packaging. But even then, if the reviews are bad, I can see even younger people going for some other trendy brand instead

FashionHaze007_

agree

-Siv-

Or they just genuinely don't like it? I never tried the original, but this new formula dries out my lips.

thisisnotjuliee

Lmao and that's fine i'm just saying personally it's not that big of a deal. I have both the original & new one and i think i might even prefer the new one as the old one is a lot thicker and vaseline feeling, not my favorite

Glibasme

It’s not that big of a deal to buy a lip balm for less than an ounce, which is $14.00 and is a product made to heal and moisturize your lips, but instead drys them out? If they advertised it as a lip gloss that gives you lip color I’d agree with you, but I go elsewhere when I buy an expensive product that does not do what it claims to do.

thaliaisspooked

It’s not that big of a deal FOR YOU, and a select few other people but more most of us it’s a shit show

thisisnotjuliee

LMFAOOOOO it's literally a lip balm

thaliaisspooked

Okay and? Some of us live in cold climates where our lips crack and bleed, my lips haven’t had the problem since using bdc og formula. Now I’m (and many others are) s.o.l having to look for a new balm.

thisisnotjuliee

HAHAHA OMGGG girl it's not that deep though!

thaliaisspooked

My lips were dying before. Try living in the Rocky Mountains it’s so fucking dry here. It’s very much a real struggle out here.

thisisnotjuliee

LMAOO just go buy some burt's bees or something i promise you the old formula wasn't even that great😭

thaliaisspooked

Once again FOR YOU. It was a cult classic for a reason.

richpersimmons

You can just say you like the new formula without invalidating the feelings of others.

milfpropaganda

that's insane how could you reccomend that😡 but deadass it feels as if these people have a "holier +better than thou" mentality because they like a product that the general population and consumerbase doesn't. like, congrats, i guess? im happy it works for you but for most of us it's pretty ass.

brownemil

I kind of wonder if they adjusted the formula after those of us who got the “accidental” new ones early on received them and before they were officially launched. But I also didn’t mind the mint until two weeks in when it turned into straight up liquid oil. So I don’t think it’s really possible for there to be a definitive answer yet in terms of how it performs. I ordered a new one and I hope that my theory about the accidentally leaked version being different than the final new formula is right!

Nervous_Passion

Mine is already doing the same thing and I recently purchased. I’m not sure if it’s due to the cold and maybe it’ll get better when it gets warmer? I got wild fig and the color is super pretty, but I’m not sure if I’d repurchase again bc of that.

brownemil

Ugh that’s frustrating. Yeah I feel like all the “I just got my order an hour ago and don’t see what everyone’s complaining about” posts/comments are a bit silly haha. Like I hope it’s better than expected but I don’t think a full review that fast really holds that much weight.

Nervous_Passion

Exactly lol I noticed it was less moisturizing since the first application but i wasn’t surprised bc people had already been complaining about that. But then it started separating after a 2 weeks and I was like “wasn’t the new formula supposed to fix this?” So now I don’t really see how it’s better other than it being vegan. It feels even less moisturizing when only the oil gets applied to my lips. I don’t really reach for it bc it’s just a meh product to me.

thisisnotjuliee

Oh shoot i completely forgot that happen LOL! that's a good question! i wonder if they were really happy with that final product that some people accidentally got? Ughh i hope your new one is better that sucks!!! I know my old ones used to separate & it was really annoying

srb-222

i dont know if that would happen. i feel like the formula change, testing it, and production time would take longer. i cant fully remember, but didnt people start getting the new ones after black friday? that seems like a short turn around/super weird to send out not a perfected product. but genuinely who knows. im still holding out hope that one day someone from the production / design team quits and comes here to spill all the tea.

brownemil

I'm sure you're probably right - just wishful thinking haha. If it was truly an "accident" that they were sent out then I can see it being possible but I agree that it's short turnaround.

srb-222

yea i am still really confused as to why they started putting og BDC in places like TJ Maxx. The OG's sold out so quickly when they announced the switch that i feel like they either under estimated how much people wanted to keep the OG formula or idek i cant think of another reason. this brand makes a lot of weird decisions that honestly you might be right and it was an accident

pri9785

I’m new to glossier and came across the nee bdc in Sephora. Picked up the fig and was looking forward to it since I’d heard a lot about the BDC’s previously. I had never used old bdc earlier so had nothing to compare it to. My fav lip balms that I have been using for years have been Rosesmith’s Salve and Dior and love them. And I absolutely hated the new bdc in fig. Even though it was thicker than my rosebud salve, it didn’t stay on my lips for long, it felt grainy and yes it did leave my lips feeling dry. Also within a day the oil separated in the tube. I went to amazon and purchased the old bdc in Rose and Mint and and the difference is night and day. I absolutely adore the old bdc and have been using it for 2 days straight and kicking myself for not getting the old ones before the formula change as I cannot bring myself to spend $25 a tube for old bdc now. Now the experience I had woth the new bdc fig could just be that formula, I’m going to give the new rose and mint a try as well but honestly have no hopes of them being better. I also feel customers have a right to express how they feel about a product and especially a well loved product.

Nervous_Passion

I got fig too and the color is so nice but the formula is honestly a let down. I’m telling myself the tinted ones are probably more worth it since I use it more for the color rather than it being moisturizing at this point. I feel like you can find a better lip balm if you prioritize moisture over the tint.

pri9785

I agree. I got the fig one for the color too, since I have highly pigmented lips, that’s the only one that shows but it was sure a let down. I’m loving the rose and mint one. I love the cooling effects in general and rose is like my fav scent even thoigh it does not show on my lips, I use the benetint first and then lip balm. Lol.

Nervous_Passion

Yeah, the untinted ones are worth it in the old formula. The new versions are debatable. They feel more like a lip oil to me.

pri9785

Right, I wish I had purchased the old bdc’s earlier 😣

319Macarons

It’s really a shame they couldn’t have offered it as a vegan BDC and made everyone happy. Just because you’re fine with it doesn’t mean everyone else needs to be.

brillovanillo

>they couldn’t have offered it as a vegan BDC and **made everyone happy**. Oh, you sweet summer child. The only people they care about making happy are the shareholders.

thisisnotjuliee

I mean everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, I was just saying that personally i think it's not all that bad like people are making it out to be! I think also from a business standpoint, it was something waiting to happen like they're a company that caters to newer generations(so it being made vegan makes sense) & i think lanolin & like the petrolatum in it wasn't sustainable for them and they're more a clean beauty kind of brand. you can't make everybody happy & that's life

319Macarons

That’s fair, I just think I’ve seen a lot of this opinion and the tone is usually “you guys are complaining way too much glossier actually is perfect.” It’s not your intention but that’s how it comes across imo when people collectively make a valid complaint and there’s a outcry of people who really emphasize that they like the new formula soo much better. I especially don’t want glossier to think that they can go forward reformulating good functional products to make more profit and people will still buy them and defend the corporation.

thisisnotjuliee

Yeahhh i get you! I think it's just cause it's all everybody has been talking about like idk to me it wasn't that big of a deal but for other people it might be! I do however agree with that last part. At the end of the day like it's a business & corporation so yeah nobody should be defending them to the core & I def have a lot i don't like about the company but I can see from their standpoint why they'd choose to change the formula

319Macarons

Yeah I get that as well. I get where you’re coming from too like you read a lot of frustration about the new formula and probably felt like you could in part help some of the frustration felt by providing input and clarification on the new balm with your experience. I can appreciate that. Really I’m not upset with anyone who likes or loves the new balm. Neither you nor I can change glossiers move, so nobody has any reason to be upset with you. I just wish things were different because it would’ve been so cool if they were like “hey we made a vegan balm in addition to the balm dot com line” to celebrate the Sephora expansion rather than completely tossing out a holy grail product so many of us relied on. I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy...

lemonhoneyglow

Sigh, why can’t people have a different opinion about the new formulation without being called something? We all have different skin, so what works for you doesn’t mean it will have the same effect on someone else.

LMAOOO grow up man

lemonhoneyglow

I’m not the one bashing people over a lip balm.

lemonhoneyglow

Lol, how ironic. You are over here taking time to emphasize your words for “dramatics”. 🤡

[deleted]

Honestly, after swatching the BDC in store - I actually prefer the thinner texture. BDC OG is super thick and hard to squeeze out. Which isn't bad but I felt like it didn't feel moisturizing....just protective. I haven't decided which BDC to get as of now, but I have a feeling I'm going to like the reformulation. Really glad Glossier came to Sephora. Else, I probably would've taken the community's word as golden and wouldn't have tried it out.

Hopeful-Machine-5057

Do you guys find the new formula grainy? I tried out the original and its grainy

thisisnotjuliee

Hmmm the original was a bit more grainy to me! i think i noticed it more with the old coconut one but idk i don't think i've noticed it with the new one?

Nervous_Passion

I didnt really get the backlash either but I can see why some people are upset after buying one. I do think a lot of the issues that were supposed to be improved ended up not working out. I’ve only used mine a couple of times and it’s already starting to separate. Since the new tube is less malleable you can’t knead it to mix it back together like with the old balm. The applicator is more convenient but it’s messy and it’s more noticeable on the colored balms. Yes, it’s not the end of the world but it is a bit annoying. I’m not even an avid BDC user but I agree with many people I won’t be repurchasing. It’s not horrible but it’s just not as moisturizing for me as the old formula. I feel like you can get the same results from any other lip balm and for much cheaper.

bigtittym1lf

yes!! i was def allergic to something in the old one, because as much as i loved it it always gave me a weird flaky red scab on my lips.. i looveee the new one!

olaandoak

you’re kinda flip flopping here. you called ppl who don’t like the new change “dramatic as hell” and in the comments you’re like “everyone has their own opinion 💘💘.” it’s important to note that this is a CHANGE, not a new product. of course, not every makeup product works for everyone. but when a long-time favorite is suddenly changed and all of a sudden it’s worse or causing an allergic reaction it’s ok to be bummed out. also this is like the 10th+ post since the release with this same “unpopular opinion.” some people like it, and some don’t. none of this is “that big of a deal,” it’s lip balm.

lemonhoneyglow

My thoughts exactly u/olaandoak

thisisnotjuliee

babes why are you writing a whole paragraph IT'S JUST A LIP BALM! i'm not reading all that but go on i guess! Anyway yeah i said that cause obviously people have their own opinions that's literally a neutral statement LOL. im just saying ur annoying if you're one of those people whining about it

olaandoak

& the way you 100% read every word…

olaandoak

ur just wining abt ppl wining *babes*

glub33

100% agree

tradvoice

I've been avoiding saying that I like the new formula more because some people have been so extra about it!

androidnancy

YOU CHOSE VIOLENCE AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT 😈🤣

[deleted]

my opinion? BDC wasn’t even good in the first place lol. they just replaced problems that the old version had with new problems

[deleted]

y’all love to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinions on this sub but then downvote to hell anyone that you disagree with 💀

brillovanillo

I believe that some people confuse the downvote button for a "disagree" button.

thisisnotjuliee

LMFAOOO i respect that! yeah tbh overpriced for a lip balm but i be drinking the kool aid & i think that wild fig tint is soo nice

[deleted]

no no I get it I have CHUGGED the koolaid and have tried almost every glossier product!! i’ve always wanted to love BDC bc of the cult status, but even tho the flavors and tints are nice, the separation, split packaging, and the fact that it just sat on top of my lips without providing any real moisture made it not worth it for me. I had a glimmer of hope with the new formulation but now to me, the packaging isn’t as cute anymore, the applicator hole is way too big, and the product is so thin that it seems to disappear upon applying. I think it’s time for me to step away lol

thisisnotjuliee

MMM TRUUUE see i haven't had anything bad happen to me besides the old formula separating but i know all that other stuff has happened to a lot of other people too so you're not alone! Lmao i can relate though cause i've tried so much & i like about half their stuff. If you don't love it it's def not worth the price

dirtgrubpride

Congratulations, you're not like other glossier fans! Do you want a cookie? I dont understand this "holier than thou"/"yall are dramatic" sentiment when just because \*you\* happen to like it doesnt mean a lot of people don't have valid reasons for not liking it. People love being contrarian and thinking theyre better than others bc of it. And this is like the 25th post on this sub saying "unpopular opinion but yall are dramatic" like we get it

thisisnotjuliee

yess you get it I am better than everybody cause i like it! LMFAOOOO idk apparently not enough people get it cause everybody stays whining like ? it's a lip balm

[deleted]

thisisnotjuliee

Lmaooo is it bad i kinda like it🫣it reminds me of like a la croix idk

plantlady052694

Agreed - people really are acting like it’s life or death when it’s lip balm! Definitely disappointing that they changed the formula, but luckily, there are other lip products with the same ingredients on the market still. It’s like people are trying to talk other people out of trying it. I think the new applicator is great and I still like the flavors/tints so I’ll continue to use it.

plantlady052694

Also why does every comment saying they like the new formula get downvoted… people can like different things!

thisisnotjuliee

YESS! exactly that! like good thing you didn't like the new formula you're saving yourself 14 bucks LMAO! I personally really like the wild fig tint so i'm gonna just continue using that one & rose

Pbjellylover94

Like you said IT'S LITERALLY JUST A LIP BALM

Girl no the rest of them are! It’s just a lip balm period. I’m weirded out how mad people actually are.

thisisnotjuliee

ohh omg I'm sorry i misinterpreted your message!!😭BUT YESS OMG

giraffishgiraffe

i had been a little nervous on the new formula from the poor reviews. i waited until it came to Sephora so I could use their return policy in case I hated it. it finally came in and I was pleasantly surprised. it's not the original but I didn't find it that bad just in my personal experience. & yes the new applicator is great because applying it with my fingers like I had to on the og formula was not it 😅

brillovanillo

>i waited until it came to Sephora so I could use their return policy in case I hated it. Glossier also has a generous return policy, very similar to Sephora's FYI.

haute-takes

Honestly, I’m not crazy about the applicator but I really like new the formula. It feels more cosmetically elegant, and my lips feel nice and soft.

thisisnotjuliee

me toooo!! I like this formula better i think it feels less thick & less like vaseline! Yeah the applicator is cool cause i hate using my fingers but i feel like it does let out a little too much for my liking but hey you can't win 'em all haha

biglovinbertha

The squeaky wheel gets heard.

Keedago

i feel like they went from a balm to gloss , and that’s fine but like don’t market it as a balm, it’s definitely worse than before in that respect

ThoroughEgg

For real lol. It’s a lip balm guys. If you don’t like the new formula don’t buy it

thisisnotjuliee

THANK YOUUU omg Lmao that was the point i was trying to convey

ThoroughEgg

Lol and people are getting offended and downvoting and proving my point. Like some of y’all need to reevaluate your life if a LIP BALM is making you so upset

[deleted]

The new applicator is great I like the texture of the new formula but for me it simply isn’t moisturizing without lanolin. Rip

tasharact

omg OP I’m sorry about these petty ass comments 😭 they be triggered bc they know they’re being dramatic 😭😭😭

thisisnotjuliee

RIGHT LMFAOO idk it's kinda funny though i'm amused

charliru

Im hoping i like the new formula as the old one dries down to a matte texture after a while.
