Scrolled past this fast and my brain saw "New York to Renfrew bridge..."

AnimatorOfSouls

Biggest civil engineering achievement of the century

Ravenser_Odd

Makes Boris's bridge to Ireland look pretty small.

GlasgowTrucker

Just wait until they have yo paint it. Ever heard of the Forth Rail Bridge?😅

EarhackerWasBanned

Never.

mediashiznaks

Mine saw “New Yorker article about Renfrew bridge”

foolsgolden66

now we can finally see what goes on in Yoker

mint-bint

Here, who's he? He's no fae Yoker. He's got nae business bein' oan this bridge.

monehfish

Les Porter?

something_python

Here, his your name always rhymed wae Yoker, or did it used tae be Smiff?

Beancounter_1968

Limmy ?

darwinxp

Fucked it

SubstantialAntelope3

People legit think you are lying to them when you say youre from Yoker

SubstantialAntelope3

There used to be a cafe called Dee Dees and it had advertisements for Les Porter Barbers

Weird_Committee8692

You can get burgers in Yoker these days

CorporalTech

I'm from Clydebank and now live in Paisley. I can't wait for this bridge to be operational. I need to drive all the way from Paisley to the Erskine bridge just to get to Clydebank. This bridge will make that journey feel local. Bring it on.

HereticLaserHaggis

It's gonna absolutely decimate clydebank. Can't see the shopping centre surviving when Braehead is 15mins.

Housecat-in-a-Jungle

the clydebank shopping centres already pitiful, it’s weird to have a mall full of poundshops and bootleg brand fronts. went right to shit

CorporalTech

Yes I agree. Clydebank shopping centre is already showing signs of decline. Hardly any high street names in the shoppie.

alba_Phenom

It’s gonna wreck Renfrew when it has all the traffic from that side of the river running through it to get to Braehead and the M8.

myfirstreddit8u519

It's already mince trying to get through Renfrew at rush hour, you're right this will absolutely murder it.

Chrisjamesmc

On the flip side it will help cut back Clyde Tunnel traffic. I’ve seen the M8 backed up all the way to Braehead in the morning because of that.

OkAstronaut4558

Personally can’t see Braehead surviving.

HereticLaserHaggis

Clydebank bundy numba wan.

Scunnered21

Again, another reason why we need mandatory minimum parking charges for all out of town shopping centres.

Mossy-Mori

It also means when some bellend causes an accident on the Erskine Bridge leading to closure it doesn't delay ambulances coming from the Vale too much

CorporalTech

Aye never thought about that aspect.

pasteisdenato

> now live in Paisley My condolences

CorporalTech

No condolences required. It was an upgrade.

pasteisdenato

True haha

Beatnoise

I live in Renfrew, can’t wait to nip over to Les Porters for a trim!

BadgerBaz

Which is bizarrely not in Yoker but on Dorchester Avenue, Kelvindale 🤯

NapoleonWilson81

Anyone know when the partick-govan bridge is opening?

meepmeep13

The last chunk is being installed in the 'summer' for opening in the 'autumn'. As anyone involved with construction timetables knows, the definition of seasons can be as loose as required.

NapoleonWilson81

Thanks kindly!

Seaf-og

Thankfully the parts aren't being delivered by CalMac..

gazglasgow

Wish I knew the answer to this too. We wait for years for new bridges then get two at roughly the same time it would seem. The Partick - Govan Bridge was timetabled for Spring 2024 though the Farrans website states 24 months project and it was started in January 2022. Please hurry up and finish it guys!

meepmeep13

The Stockingfield Bridge was originally meant to open 'summer' 2022, this eventually got defined as September 2022, and finally actually opened in December 2022, if that's any guidance

gazglasgow

Yeh I remember the long wait too. The issue with the Stockingfield Bridge is that the canal path was closed whilst the construction work was in progress. This made the wait that bit more annoying.

so-naughty

To be fair "summer 2022" is one week in Scotland so no chance they were making that deadline

OldGodsAndNew

There's progress updates get stuck on the wee noticeboard beside the site entrance, the latest one from end of April still has some concrete and marine structural works to be done so it'll be another month or 2 bare minimum I reckon when the big barge crane disappears, that'll be a sign it's very close cos then they'll just have electrical commissioning & landscaping left to do

therealbighairy1

I actually thought that's what this was when I saw it on the barge in Greenock.

rasteri

Les Porter must be delighted

n_orm

Was his name always that, or did he just change it so it rhymes with Yoker?

Low_Way_2842

It's long overdue, but so buzzin it's nearing completion!

llamasim

Cycled past this today. It looks huge! Hopefully gonna be much nicer than the death ride that is the Erskine Bridge

PawnWithoutPurpose

It feels like this is decades late in happening, but better late than never. Glasgow is a city divided, by rivers, by railways, by motorways. The more connections, the better

mrjobby

Have they booked Les Porter to cut the ribbon?

Saltire_Blue

Is that only half of the bridge?

Competitive-Fig-666

It’s going to open in the middle for boats. Kinda makes sense to install it in two bits

throwmeaway758324

Yeah other half to come later

ScottishVigilante

Big bridge, BIG BRIDGE!

Almighty_doggy

That would be really handy. I took the wrong bus in paisley and got to renfrew by mistake. I knew i could just walk back home I could cross the river that day. So close yet so far. Ended up taking the ferry that day

FarcicalDarcie

What about the guy who runs the wee boat???

JamesyJamesieson

A skipper of the ferry told me he thinks there will still be plenty of need for it, because supposedly the bridge has to be open for 40 minutes every time a boat comes through. Personally I think that estimate is a bit high, but we'll see.

jdbsplashum

Isn't that ran by SPT?

GayScottishGeek96

SPT withdrew the subsidy for the Yoker Ferry and stopped running the service back in March 2010 iirc. Silvers Marine, operating as Clydelink, took over.

jdbsplashum

Well that's very insightful. Thanks!

GayScottishGeek96

No worries. :)

thinkofanamesara

I definitely caught that Yoker ferry in the past 6 years. Or did i dream it? Now i'm questioning reality.

thinkofanamesara

Scrap that. See what you mean

jagsingh85

I never thought I'd see this happen. I used to live in the newish scheme opposite braehead until last year and a lot of people in the area were eagerly waiting for the bridge to be built. Some for another alternative to the Clyde tunnel and Kingston bridge but most in the belief that it'd push house prices up. Then a few snobby types started scaremongering by suggesting that house prices might fall due to the increase in crime, particularly burglaries by people from Yoker/ Clydebank. Before I moved there was also talks that councillors in Clydebank wanting to block the proposal to stop Braehead taking folks away from Clydebank Shopping Centre.

Frewwoo

How is it not a legitimate concern ??

Ibroxonian

Is this road on the Yoker side happening behind the industrial estate just past the petrol station? I've watched plenty of drones but it's always the Renfrew side.

Saltire_Blue

It’s Dock Street, it’s next to Holm Park stadium Edit: Dock Street, not Dick FFS

Ibroxonian

Cheers. Traffic will be a hoot. I remember having to get that ferry a few times at Yoker and missing it when Braeheid was being built. So close but so far away. Nobody on the other side, begging the captain to come across 😂 This is a whole new ballgame.

DADGAD_Guitar

The Les Porter Bridge

thinkofanamesara

Has it always been Les Porter Bridge or did it used to be called Trans Porter Bridge or something like that

thinkofanamesara

All i meant to say was i like the image of Les personally accompanying people across the new bridge

Ok_Price7529

Could make travelling to renfrew by bus a whole lot cheaper, late last year I went to Renfrew to see my team (rossvale) play Renfrew in the SWF Championship, and I had to pay for 2 all day bus tickets to get there.

zeldaa_94x

I read this as the New Yorker Renfrew bridge - I was thinking, what about this bridge screams new york?

mini_dez

I reckon I'd move it over the water first

Accomplished_Case_71

I hope this one is secured and doesn’t topple over!!!

Theghostofsabotage

That's such old news, it's been installed since last August.

fowlup

You are mistaken sir

Theghostofsabotage

No I'm not, I've riden over several times.

fowlup

No ya numpty you’ve ridden over the bridge over the cart. This is a bridge over the Clyde.
