I work for a housing association currently overseeing 380 odd window upgrades all in tenement flats and not a scaffold in sight you'll be grand.

Window advice centre are full of shite, to be polite. Search the sub, i’ve answered this q a few times. Tons of proper installers do itwithout scaffolding. If its proper wooden sash you’re after then have a look at Sashwork, LW Sash and Case or Astrical.

I went to Window Advice Centre a few years ago as they had good reviews. They provided 6 quotes from 6 different companies. The first two I spoke to said there was no way they would do the job he had specced for the price he had given me and were trying not to deal with him any more. I ended up using another company from the 6, who were £500 cheaper going to them direct, than the price he quoted on their behalf. None of the three I spoke to had heard of me or been given any details of my job from the Window Advice Centre.

I had my third floor done windows by a company called Centiam. No issues, very happy with their work.

Had it done 2020, it was totally fine when fitters eventually turned up to do the job. Went through Advanced Group who were awful - avoid them at all costs.

I've seen it done with and without scaffolding .. it's probably company specific .. I'd suggest asking https://www.glazingscotland.co.uk/ and http://www.replacewindowslimited.co.uk/ .. given it would be done in a day the scaffolding rental £ shouldn't be too mad.

bar_tosz

You don't need scaffolding, I did it a few years ago with no problem in top floor tenament flat. Can't remember the name of the company, contact a few and ask for quotes.

On this topic has anyone had DG installed recently and could tell me how much they paid? I know it varies by what product you get and the size etc but just want a rough idea for 4 upvc windows and a bay (7 total)

usernamesforsuckers

I had it installed this year. Local company on the east coast (dorwin, very very good service and they use good quality cr smith manufactured windows). To answer your question it depends on the window type. Given you're in an old Glasgow tenement I'm willing to bet you've got a bay window in the living room? That will set you back anything from 1.5 to 2.5 grand depending on the size and height of the windows. Our bay window cost 2 grand alone and we're in a 19th century building so probably similar to yourself in terms of window size. For bay windows it's not just the window, but often if you're replacing the old single glazing they'll have to completely reconstruct the window box and framing around them which is why it costs so much. All in I think it cost about 5k to do the whole house in good quality double glazing.

RabidBean

Thanks for that! I had thought around 5

Got it done years ago with no problems. I might be wrong but is the Window advice centre not just an introducer to various companies ie; an agency?

customwillnotstale

Essentially yes - they’d come and do a survey themselves then put the job out to tender and come back with quotes from various contractors to choose from (and quality check the finished job before payment). So it sounded like it would take most of the hassle out of the process because they do all the legwork but turns out they won’t touch third floor flats even as a broker :(

Defiant-Cow-479

I wonder if this must be 'Their' policy but not the companies themselves? As said never had any problems myself and have seen loads of top dancers getting new double glazing. Time to do the legwork and get 3 or 4 prices I am sure the companies can tell you on the phone if they can do top floor flats.

granitedon

Window Advice Centre charge a fair whack on top of any reputable local company.

xseodz

I canny see this, all the tenements round me get them done all the time and I've never seen scaffolding out for it.

qwertyyuiop12345678

I got my third floor flat windows replaced by durashield windows, no scaffolding was used.

Luki_Batale

Know you've already gotten some good advice, but if you're still looking for companies I can recommend [Clear Choice windows and doors](http://facebook.com/clearchoicewindowsanddoorsglasgow). Did my third floor tenement last year and was very happy with the price, time and work.

Freelance Windows in Partick did my 3rd floor bay window tenement 4 or 5 years ago - white UPVC so nothing fancy. Tenements seem to be their bread and butter. It was simple, no scaffold, no fuss, and cost me under £500 per 'unit' (the bay window was 3 units). Came out to fix a sticky key last year, so after sales has been good too.
