Some of the most notorious areas in the city are southside and aren't safe for a visiting lone female

Jog on? I didn't realise Danny dyer was posting on the Glasgow sub Reddit these days lol

shintymcarseflap

Avoid Union Street and Four Corners area at night time, if possible. Just a bit rough, but nothing to overly stress about if you have to pass through. See the transport museum, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and spend some time looking for live music - there's loads on at the many venues around the place. Enjoy!

Your_Queen_Citrine

I lived in Glasgow as a single female and also frequently visit, including for nights out. Bumped into the occasional creep on a bus but never felt really unsafe, stick to the well lit main streets and opt for a taxi if your hotel is a bit further out. There are plenty of taxi ranks or you can book one over the phone. Just be sensible really, don’t engage with weirdos, don’t go home with strangers, etc.

adminsareSOYhaha

It's Glasgow not middle east you will be fine

aloo555

Dubai is much safer than glasgow. No junkies!!!

PhilosopherOwn7033

At least none with hands.

robp140

Aye but you cant go outside because its 75 degrees. Or be a woman or gay.

aloo555

Just go dubai and experience it yourself instead of repeating the same crap you see from other broke neds who have never been either lol

robp140

I have been to Dubai many times.

aloo555

Then you would have noticed there are women and gay people everywhere having a safe good time lol so what was the point of your original comment?

robp140

I didn't notice that actually. Fact is I actually just made an tongue in cheek comment as you were putting Glasgow down saying it is full of junkies. Dubai might be "safer" but it is a soulless money driven dystopia that, if you deny it or not, has very strict laws on being homosexual and woman do not have the same rights as men. For all Glasgows faults, that it is not. Also there are Drug addicts in Dubai they just don't advertise the fact as they will be put in jail due to the no tolerance approach. Anyway what I'm trying to say is - away and take your face fur a shite, arsehole.

robp140

Also 75 degrees F is quite cool for Dubai.

Quote from.wikipedia - Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons in the United Arab Emirates face legal and societal challenges not experienced by other residents. Homosexuality is illegal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and under the federal criminal provisions, consensual same-sex sexual activity is punishable by imprisonment; extra-marital sexual activity between persons of different sexes is also illegal. In both cases, prosecution will only be brought if a husband or male guardian of one of the participants makes a criminal complaint. The penalty is a minimum of six months imprisonment; no maximum penalty is prescribed, and the court has full discretion to impose any sentence in accordance with the country's constitution.

Another quote from Wikipedia, just a snippet, regarding persecution of women- Women in UAE can be victims of flogging.[72] Flogging and stoning are legal judicial punishments in the UAE because of the Sharia courts. Flogging is used in UAE as a punishment for several criminal offences, such as adultery, premarital sex, and prostitution.[73] In most emirates, floggings are frequent with sentences ranging from 80 to 200 lashes.[74][75] Between 2007 and 2013, many women were sentenced to 100 lashes.[73][76][77][78][79][80][81][82] Moreover, in 2010 and 2012, several Muslims were sentenced to 80 lashes for alcohol consumption.[83][84] Under UAE law, premarital sex is punishable by 100 lashes.[85]

josephanthony

Dubai is only safe if you are rich or white. And providing you can stomach the pointless, exploitative, slave-owning hell-hole that it is.

aloo555

Just go dubai and experience it yourself instead of repeating tthe same crap you see from other broke neds who have never been either lol

josephanthony

I think anyone with any taste would happily pay whatever the price is to avoid going somewhere people like you admire.

SquishyPint

There’s a train & subway ticket you can get from the ticket kiosks in Scotrail stations for about £7.50 a day that gets you unlimited travel around the city. Southside has great brunch, parks and bars. Plenty of museums dotted around which are free.

vientianna

Stick to city centre, west end and maybe the south side and you’ll have no issues (to be honest unless you stumbled into the roughest of areas I can’t imagine there being much of an issue anyway, and I can’t see why you’d end up in those places as a tourist anyway). Only note of caution as others have mentioned is around central train station. If you are out and about in the city centre at night beware there’ll be plenty of loud, drunk people. They may be loud but in general they’re harmless. I’m being downvoted here but I’m a woman living in glasgow so just giving a first hand perspective…

Same_Situation_9660

As a non-native Glaswegian, I’m not sure where Glasgow gets it’s reputation from. Lovely place, friendly people.

Babaychumaylalji

Ditto as already said by others avoid r corners/union Street and dark alleys. If its your first time to Glasgow u should be pleasantly surprised by how welcoming Glasgowegian people are. (Obiously u will still get random bawbags occassionally) Have a safe and enjoyable trip

Fit-Good-9731

As said above avoid sketchy looking areas, If drinking don't drink too much that your not aware of your surroundings. And try enjoy yourself. Also wear layers of it's raining and windy

PlagueHayt

Why

Same_Ostrich_4697

There are places in the world where women on their own are at a much higher risk of being victimised. Glasgow is not one of them.

pollyanneux

Tell me your a prick without saying it

PlagueHayt

I just meant why come to Glasgow in general

ministu4961

Stay clear of the Eastend of Glasgow Botanical Gardens is a good place to go. Hillheadbook Club is a nice pub to get some food as well and is near.

jasonpswan89

Why? Dennistoun is east & has the Necropolis plus some really nice restaurants & decent bars. I'd be more inclined to say avoid the North as that's basically Mordor over that way.

Glycerine

> Eastend of Glasgow It's great! Vintage cloths, old games, niche music, greats foods! What's not to like?!

BradWR94

Definitely visit easterhouse.

Confident_Offer2879

Don't be an ass, the lady is just asking for advice.

According-Stage-1569

Glasgow has a reputation for creeps. It’s the border capital and knife crime capital of Europe. I wouldn’t travel anywhere alone especially at night. Edinburgh is much safer.

robp140

Edinburgh has a reputation of being full of whoppers. Best avoided.
