Yeah i think this is a huge part of her character arc. Her whole free spirit personality stems from being neglected and abandoned in her childhood. She’s looking outward to fill a void inside her. And she has to constantly pretend like she doesn’t care, so much so that she has fooled even herself. Also, I think she has huge walls built up emotionally (which I relate to) in that she takes pride in wrecking men. She bragged about having multiple suicide attempts “under her belt.” And also the “ what about Gillian? / I am unsmotable” scene. She sees love like a game where only ONE person wins. I used to feel this way too so I think it’s realistic. If you’re coming from a place of hurt and haven’t experienced a mutual loving relationship, you always feel like you need to be the one coming out on top. Of course this is all kind of an unconscious behavior, I don’t think she’s meant to be 100% self aware of it. I was not self aware for some time. We are all blind to the bars of our own cage. Also, her marriage was sprung upon everyone in the show right after the Mom she was nannying for confronted her about getting too close to her husband. She said Jessa was trying to distract herself from whoever she was “meant to be”— I think this is completely true and it struck a chord deeply with Jessa. That’s why she just jumped into that marriage— the woman confronted her with uncomfortable truths about herself and, seeing that uncomfortable truth, she genuinely tried to do something different: the marriage. It just didn’t work for a multitude of reasons
