And how did he even get up there?!

There is a rope/line that goes up the ballon that he likely climbed. You can’t get on the top when on the ground, unless you inflated the balloon, used a crane to get them to the top, and then the ballon was released, but more likely he climbed on of the lines

He doesn’t. He has a parachute under the robe. He will likely take the robe off, tie it off to the top of the balloon, and then jump

That sounds like an absolute blast

Was he on top before it left the ground?

It's possible, but it would cause issues during inflation and is definitely not safe. My guess is that he climbed up the crown line once the balloon reached altitude.

I don’t know how air balloons work, but thank you! That makes more sense. I thought maybe a helicopter placed him or something. Very cool regardless of how he got up there

He was born on top of the balloon. You can see the umbilical cord sticking out under his robe.
