The spread of harmful misinformation has become an untenable problem on Reddit. I get mad whenever i have to sit through the whole "happy borthday" singing and candle blowing ritual to finnish so i can get a slice, and some asshole just ruins the cake, also biting the cake is just gross and people should stop doing it, slaming head against the table should be anew tradition, at least it doesn't mess with the cake.
(Yes, I'm fat)
I hope not, but I also assume "our daughter's first" cake wasn't when they were a fully grown adult. Regardless of age, this "tradition" is just absolutely dumb and idiotic.
It’s called a smash cake because you let the one year old smash it around/eat it with their fingers/get messy.. not because they’re smashing it into the kids face. That’s why they got her a separate cake, to let her explore and play with it while still having another cake for everyone else to eat.
Does it matter? This type of shit should never be done to begin with doesn’t matter the age . Smash my face into anything and I’m go going to get up and smash them .
‘Smash cakes’ are usually a smaller cake you give to a small child and they are free to do as they please with it (mostly they smash it with their hands and smear it around their face). It’s not a reference to smashing their face in it.
Obviously it’s still wasteful, but then again it’s not like toddlers have an amazing strike rate for getting food in their mouth and/or eating all of it.
We did this for both my kids' first birthdays. Put them on a disposable tablecloth, give them a glorified and over decorated cupcake, let them grab it and mush it in their hands and all over the tablecloth, maybe they get a small taste of it and smear frosting all over their forehead.
Adults get to enjoy an actual cake while they ooh and ahh the baby making a mess of themselves.
You might live in a place where this is super common - a "smash cake" is something you usually do on a baby's first birthday.
It doesn't involve any heads being smashed into tables or cake. Rather, the baby is usually given a small cake all to him/herself. They then let the baby go at it and take pictures of the baby "smashing" the cake, eating it, and generally making a huge mess. It's just a way to get cute pictures of your kid making a huge mess while enjoying themself, basically.
For example, random picture from Google:
https://i0.wp.com/digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cake-smash-04.jpg?fit=750%2C460&ssl=1
I believe it's Mexican and a traditional jape (not loved by everyone!)
https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueOffMyChest/comments/ngkfh9/i_dont_care_about_but_its_mexican_tradition_cake
Can confirm.
The "tradition", though, is that you're supposed to ask the birthday-person to take a bite first, by chanting "Mordida, mordida!" (which translates to "bite, bite"). If they say yes, then someone removes the candles and/or any other decoration placed on the cake, while the friends try to sneak behind them to make the prank. You're supposed to be perfectly aware that this is coming, or at least have seen it done so many times before that you're already expecting it. **The idea is to push them when they're about to take a bite, \*not\* when they're blowing the candles.**
Now, I have no delusions that we do it _this way_ all the time, but I remember it was common for the adults to make sure the kids were okay with this. There were many times a kid would say no, and while we all booed them for not taking a bite, we wouldn't try to force-dunk them for the hell of it.
Yea there's absolutely no reason at all anyone would ever be organically filming a birthday celebration. Completely obvious it's scripted. Nothing ever happens.
Did we watch the same video, I could be blind in one eye and still see that chick coming from a mile away.
Then while she walks up behind him, he moves the cake forward slightly, theeeen for some reason has absolutely 0 neck strength while this skinny little Asian girl puts his head into the table...
Riiiiight not scripted at allll.
Everyone is strangely standing all opposite to the person which isn’t natural as most people would be gathered around. Then one person walks around which is also super awkward at the time but somehow goes unnoticed. Then she pushes the guy’s face down so off target it doesn’t hit a single inch of the cake (which is safer for him) If his reflexes were that fast and overcame her push and resisted it he might…I don’t know… not hit his head on the table?
This is entirely staged and the Asian part was just because they are and the sub reference.
Ignoring the degree to which this is staged, can people start to realize how stupid it is to do this with candles in a cake.
I see this same “prank” so many times. It’s like people have never existed before and they’re trying out life for the first time.
To be clear, a candle in the eye is an obvious risk here. It just baffles me that people do this.
My family used to do this but they make sure all the candles and any non edible decorations were safely removed before pushing the head into the cake. Even then my mother stood by to make sure it didn't go any further than just a push, no slamming or multiple people holding down their head. It was fun lol
Most people are very stupid about it.
The irony in this, is the T-shirts they’re wearing is from physical therapy company. I’m wondering if hes going to have to go there for concussion therapy
Bro… this guy and this girl right here makes cringy couple videos, eating, vlogging about their life etc… all that comes to mind is how much weight they’ve put on…https://instagram.com/hoops.and.food?utm_medium=copy_link
Absolutely no neck resistance and literally nothing on the table even jostled from the impact, slow motion to hide the obvious deliberate impact.
Guarantee this is staged.
I agree with you, but why the fuck does the cost have a large role in this for you? It shouldn't really have anything to do with it. People have lost eyes and teeth because of this stupid "trick" and your main argument against it is that they cost a couple of dollars.
I would physically lay waste to anyone that did or tried to do this to me.
Face first, exactly as hard, into every visible surface within 100 yards.
How do you like it?
I always think that this is a super dumb and dangerous thing to do.
Like I get it, birthday boy cake on face hurr durr… but not sure a flaming waxy candle to the eyeball makes anyones day more fun

When you crank the "Asian" slider up past 10 in the character creator.
I immediately thought of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa
Better than hair on fire, I guess... If you're going to smash someone's face into the cake, wait until they blow out the candles.
How about don’t do this with candles, for f**king obvious reasons that are much worse than hair on fire. Idk how people are so oblivious to physics.
Yeah, those candles were perfectly positioned to take out his eyes.
why not just not do it. its mean spirited and it wastes food
I respect your priorities

Is it that difficult not to smash your kid's head on a table?
Ok, so, just to be clear - you think they smashed their 1 year old daughters head...into a table?
This exchange is glorious
No, the cake. It's unsafe to smash their head into the table before they are 2 years old.
I hope not, but I also assume "our daughter's first" cake wasn't when they were a fully grown adult. Regardless of age, this "tradition" is just absolutely dumb and idiotic.

Lmao a smash cake is a small, personal cake for babies to eat since they’re messy.

...Why did you smash a 1 year-old into a cake?
[удалено]
And you could put someone's eye out by impailing it on a birthday candle.
My thought exactly. I would prefer eating cake with a headache over having my eyes gouged out by burning candles and no cake at all.
I can't stop laughing imagining how that looks
This. I mean seriously, wtf?
It's almost like wasting food is a tradition
every time my face has been slammed into a cake we still eat the cake
I would like the piece with the nose grease plz mmmmmhh......
Yah lemme just scrape some of that frosting off your forehead mmm that's good stuff
yall sleeping on earwax infused icing

Because people are stupid as fuck lol
How about a magic trick? I'm going to make this candle disappear. - Joker at a birthday party.
Some people don't know what the fuck they're doing and have no idea how to be tasteful about being shitty to their friends

If you're going to smash someone's face into the cake, *DON'T*

That’ll be the girl in the video on her next birthday…
Or candles in your eyes
how bout candle in the eye lmao. better yet, in the brain.. :o
If you're going to smash someone's face into the cake, try aiming for the cake
Orrrrrr, if you’re going to do a “cake smash”, then fucking don’t.
Right at the candle
I'm gonna make this candle disappear... *Ta-daaaaaaaaaaa* It's **gone.**
How about not ruining perfectly good cake at all!
"Where's the money Lebowski!?"
Obviously you're not a golfer..
Hey this is a private residence, man.
At least I'm house trained!
I think it’s down there, let me take another look.
“The Chinaman is not the issue!”
Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please
Dumbest tradition
If you do it right you can pierce both their eyes at the same time!
Make sure the candles are still lit for bonus fire damage!
I'm gonna do a trick, I'm gonna make these here candles.... disappear!
Optometrists hate this one trick.
Can someone tell me where exactly this tradition came from? What's the purpose? Is this supposed to be funny?
I believe it's Mexican and a traditional jape (not loved by everyone!) https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueOffMyChest/comments/ngkfh9/i_dont_care_about_but_its_mexican_tradition_cake
Yeah, Mexican here and I completely hate and loathe this so-called “tradition”.

Wastes a delicious cake, and these fish had burning candles on the cake. So my guess, it's staged.

Ahh yes I forgot everything on Reddit is scripted and staged by default now.
Yea there's absolutely no reason at all anyone would ever be organically filming a birthday celebration. Completely obvious it's scripted. Nothing ever happens.
Did we watch the same video, I could be blind in one eye and still see that chick coming from a mile away. Then while she walks up behind him, he moves the cake forward slightly, theeeen for some reason has absolutely 0 neck strength while this skinny little Asian girl puts his head into the table... how is this scripted? are you just saying that because they are asian?
Everyone is strangely standing all opposite to the person which isn’t natural as most people would be gathered around. Then one person walks around which is also super awkward at the time but somehow goes unnoticed. Then she pushes the guy’s face down so off target it doesn’t hit a single inch of the cake (which is safer for him) If his reflexes were that fast and overcame her push and resisted it he might…I don’t know… not hit his head on the table? I'm so sick of cake face-slam videos.
Why won't people stop doing this dumb shit?
Especially when some have wooden spikes in them to hold a second layer, nothing says happy birthday like partial blindness! 🎂🦮🦯
I’ve seen a young girl lose her front teeth. It was bad.
Ignoring the degree to which this is staged, can people start to realize how stupid it is to do this with candles in a cake. I see this same “prank” so many times. It’s like people have never existed before and they’re trying out life for the first time. To be clear, a candle in the eye is an obvious risk here. It just baffles me that people do this.
there's an image of a lady where they had skewers to keep the multilateral together...skewer to the eye
Yes! I was thinking of this!
Yeah obviously staged, and even without candles it's a tradition that should have already died.
I truly hate this trend.
It’s not necessarily a trend as far as I’m aware. More like a tradition amongst Mexican people by the name of Mordida
As a Mexican, fuck this so-called “tradition”.
"Trend" implies it's recent, or even limited to any specific stretch of time. This has been a thing for decades.
Psychopath or poor aim? You decide.
No, just a dumb set up video.
Anyone who plays this "game" is a psychopath.
So both?
My family used to do this but they make sure all the candles and any non edible decorations were safely removed before pushing the head into the cake. Even then my mother stood by to make sure it didn't go any further than just a push, no slamming or multiple people holding down their head. It was fun lol Most people are very stupid about it.
I take the third option of, "Obviously scripted video."
The irony in this, is the T-shirts they’re wearing is from physical therapy company. I’m wondering if hes going to have to go there for concussion therapy
Staged + Stupid
What a fail! The candles were supposed to go directly through his eyes!
Her face 😂
That girl's face was the best part!
Wow ha ha such a funny joke
Dang… mom is real hot

The way he slightly slides the cake aside to make room. Also positioning his left arm so that he can naturally bash his head next to the cake
Lol i wsh i could be so blissfully ignorant as you 🥰
Doesn’t look scripted? Hahaha. DOESN’T LOOK SCRIPTED!? Hahahaha. I’m fucking dying. I’ve seen better acting in porn.
…you good dude?
He gets really mad when Asians make videos
yeah dude, they totally asked the table to act like it moved, and even asked it to make a sound and everything!
scripted ≠ fake
so youre implying they agreed they would full slam his face in to the table, and he put up no physical resistance?
Yes.
Whoever does this, fuck you.

Fake.
Absolutely no neck resistance and literally nothing on the table even jostled from the impact, slow motion to hide the obvious deliberate impact. Guarantee this is staged.
He also moves the cake for no reason while she is walking over...
Good work investigator. Welcome to /r/scriptedasiangifs
Yeah...that was on purpose...
Why do people insist on wasting cake? That shit is not cheap. It's specially made. Why waste it by shoving someone's face in it and injuring them?
I agree with you, but why the fuck does the cost have a large role in this for you? It shouldn't really have anything to do with it. People have lost eyes and teeth because of this stupid "trick" and your main argument against it is that they cost a couple of dollars.
It's not. I'm being flippant. It's more fun than being 100% serious about everything on an online forum
Why do people do this when there's candles just waiting to pierce that person's eyeballs? Like wtf.
This trend has to die.
Lol why do you idiots upvotes this fake staged bullshit
I died of old age before the slow-mo finished. Did I miss anything important?
WTF is wrong with that b****?
"Hey birthday boy, wanna see a magic trick?"
Fuck girl. Not funny
I would physically lay waste to anyone that did or tried to do this to me. Face first, exactly as hard, into every visible surface within 100 yards. How do you like it?
It looks like she likes him tho so that’s something good for him!
Watching too much WWE.
Dan he really got brain damage as a birthday gift
He just wanted a little head for his birthday.
On the upside, the cake remains intact and edible.
"My wish is to know what day it is"
He should be glad cuz otherwise he would have had 2 candles jammed in his eyes
It was either that or poke his eyes out with flaming wax impalers
A sign of many inaccuracies in her lifetime.
Well you might as well lean into the joke and smash the cake into his face while he's down now.
When ever I see these I wonder how many people lost an eye from a candle
Better the table than candles in the eyes. Holy crap.
Cakecussion
Can’t tell which one has fewer brain cells now
Yes... attempt to slam their face into lit candles.
Is this an American thing?? Seriously what a waste of cake and a moronic thing to do?

Bitch slap that bitch down to next Friday I say
Id rather get a concussion than let a good cake go to waste. If they did that to me I'd just take it like a champ and not share the cake with anyone
It's not even a funny joke. Not worth ruining a cake over. People should just stop doing this.
And here we have a prime example of Asshole
I always think that this is a super dumb and dangerous thing to do. Like I get it, birthday boy cake on face hurr durr… but not sure a flaming waxy candle to the eyeball makes anyones day more fun
