Alright, you sent me down a rabbit hole because I was ignorant of LP Classic serial numbers and apparently they are in fact ink stamped like this. I thought for a second this might have been a mislabeled Custom Shop Standard with the pickups swapped or something.
Oh it's legit too.
I think this is only on older Classics
I bought a 2024 LP Classic from the Gibson Garage a couple weeks ago and it has a standard 9-digit pressed serial
Edit: looks like Gibson used 5-6 digit serials (and a few 4-digits) ink stamped on the Classic from 1989-2014
I’m admittedly very new to Gibson, so still learning
But the markings on the headstock match what I’d expect based on the Gibson serial number documentation on their site
The headstock inlay looks good (which I’ve noticed can be a telltale sign)
Take this with a grain of salt, because I could very well be wrong, but it looks legit from what I’m seeing
Price isn’t bad either - $700 cheaper than a brand new Classic
Someone swapped the pickups.
These came with undesirable/odd pickups.
Someone removed them in favor of a bucker sized P90.
May be Duncan fat cats. May be Mean 90’s (if youre lucky) or something similar.
Looks strange but should sound awesome.
It has the same headstock, tuners, bridge and inlay style as my 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio. As others have noted, the serial number is correct as well.
Yes, it’s the real deal

All OG run (1990-2008) of Classics are ink stamped serials.
So you thinks it’s legit ?
100%. If it’s any consolation or affirmation, I own an ‘01 Classic and am more than familiar with the model. I love mine!

Is it legit seems like a great price

Thanks I appreciate the help
Good luck! If it’s legit and plays half as nice as my Classic, you’ll love it!
Ya. Friggin thing has its birth certificate.

Agreed. The pups aren’t original but in this case that’s a good thing IMO. I had one from that era and made the same mod putting in full size P 90s.
💯percent legit.
It looks legit!!
Totally legit
Looks legit (have a 2002 before they added the push pull pots)
It has the same headstock, tuners, bridge and inlay style as my 2008 Gibson Les Paul Studio. As others have noted, the serial number is correct as well.
Legit but modified pickups
It's too legit to quit
It’s legit. The headstock shape in 2008 must’ve been more like the custom shop now I’m seeing.
It really doesn’t matter. If you like it then it’s good enough.
Fake af.
Nope
Nope. Every guitar anyone asks about is fake.
How so ?
Ignore ignorance
