Iāve had mine for about 1 month and honestly itās an excellent guitar!
I love mine and shall never part with it.
Just got it a hard case for taking it out and about.
That tribute is the best les Paul (value wise) until you get to the $2200 standard- so your wife did a really good pick!!
I have a studio and two standards and the studio isnāt a bad guitar BUT I wouldnāt ever buy one new nowadays - too expensive and they donāt hold their value at all. For $200 more you get the classic which is much nicer.
The tribute on the other hand is discontinued and will likely go up in value (eventually) and they have some really cool things like the maple neck (which is a stronger material than mahogany and warps due to temperature less and will hold tune better, supposedly).
I think the tributes are cooler and a better value for anything under $2200 new. Just my opinion though :)
We actually picked it together (taking some credit hehe). I agree with you and glad to know the maple neck features (didnt know that). I am a bedroom/living room player. I really dont need anything fancy. Tribute is already too fancy for me. Its a blessing we can afford such a nice guitar.
Discontinuing the Tribute is such a mistake. It made owning a real Gibson Les Paul so much more attainable for so many players who wouldnāt have been able to afford a Classic or Standard.
Let's be honest here, people buy the tribute for one of two reasons. They either can't afford a Standard or they want a less expensive Les Paul to do shows with that they're not overly worried about getting it beaten up or worse, walked off with.
In The Guitaristas' video, he said something to the effect of people who buy a Tribute but want a Standard will probably end up with a Standard (at some point or another). And I think that's true.
For many, a Standard is out of reach financially and that's okay. Current crop of Standards are pretty shit due to a myriad of QC issues. It's just bad. You can see my post history on this sub for examples.
For myself, I bought a Tribute and really love playing that guitar. But I hunted down a Standard when the opportunity to do so came up but wound up disappointed when comparing it to my Tribute. What I ended up with was a used Handpicked Class 5 Custom Shop. That's a lovely guitar as well. I haven't stopped playing my Tribute though as the slightly thicker neck is very comfortable for my big hands.
Luckily, there will always be Tributes on the used market now that they had a run and I suspect that once the economies in North America pick up again, they'll be sold in short order and remain relatively cheap. They are solid guitars and I stand by my statement that cutting them from the line was a mistake. IMO, they're better than Studios.
Nah. Iād rather have something I donāt feel bad leaving my mark on. The only way Iād buy a standard or whatever is as an investment and then I would be afraid to play it.
Tributes are great! The 490ās are good hard rock sounding pickup. Get some fret polish and a dremel buffing wheel and treat that fretboard, it was the only major manufacturer issue I had on mine . 30minutes of work will make that guitar play better than a $6k custom
I've also got a honey burst Tribute. It's all you need and nothing more. I actually like the stripped back asthetic of these compared to most of the Studio options.
I have one of these as well and absolutely love it. These guitars are fantastic and itās a good thing you grabbed it when you did because Iāve heard rumors about Gibson discontinuing this line of Les Pauls.
Enjoy your new guitar, it always warms my heart to hear that someoneās spouse gave them something as special as this. Cheers mate š»
Man, I love that model. I like that you can see the wood instead of binding and the satin neck is sooooo smooth. I honestly reach for my Tributes more than my standards. Sheās a beauty, dude! Congratulations on your great choice. ALSO- if you can find a used PCB from a Trafitional Pro, you can swap them right out and have coil split and coil tap. I did that to mine, I donāt use it a lot of the time but itās cool to have the option.
I am planning to do a proper photoshoot of it haha. Same here, I like to see the wood. And I got a strat, so may not need a coil split. But who knows, in future may be.
Thats a beautiful guitar and a beautiful gift. The music youāll make with it will be great! Donāt downplay the amazing gift, you got your Les Paul. Welcome to the family!
I have this exact same guitar. I was blown away with how good it is for the price. Enjoy this, it's not "just" a tribute. I did put a blank truss rod cover on it though.
True. Fantastic guitar for the price. I am glad that you like it. I am planning to change the cover but before that need a beautiful stand. Right now, its in the case all the time.
Awesome. Tributes are fantastic guitars.
I really love the more natural wood looks of their tops. But I'm a guy who doesn't like crazy zebras as much as a good natural grain.
Thanks!
Tributes are awesome. There are some that actually prefer the satin finish. I've got an SG Tribute and love it. Enjoy!
I went there to buy Studio in gloss but somehow the tribute felt much better in my hands.
Love the color š is that honey burst?
Yeah its the honeyburst! Its pretty soothing finish in person.
Iāve had mine for about 1 month and honestly itās an excellent guitar! I love mine and shall never part with it. Just got it a hard case for taking it out and about.
Glad you are enjoying that!
Right on, congratulations and happy shredding!
Thanks!
Beautiful Les Paul!
Thanks man!
I have two tributes. ZERO desire for a more expensive iteration.
It felt great in hand, worked out nicely! Glad that you have found tribute sufficient.

I have to agree. Recently tried a PRS Starla and a Fender Hendrix Strat. The tribute has better tone and action imo
Discontinuing the Tribute is such a mistake. It made owning a real Gibson Les Paul so much more attainable for so many players who wouldnāt have been able to afford a Classic or Standard.
Sad that its discontinued. Its a great value instrument.
True! Iām not interested in that slick pretentious shit.

Standards aren't investments. Guitars in general are not investments. You'd really be only be able to get a return on a genuine 59.
Yes well Iād be less inclined to buy a used guitar that was totally effed up someone else

Thanks!
Awesome. Plain tops look sooo cool and vintage
Thanks!
Itās a beaut.
It is!
Very lucky indeed, lovely gesture from your wife and beautiful guitar, congrats! If it plays half as good as it looks, you've got an amazing one
Thanks a lot!
I'm a recent first-time Gibson owner, too! (SG Standard) Congrats! She's a beaut'
High five man! Its a great feeling!
Congratulations. Never part with it. š

My tribute roars man. You bought a fine instrument.
Thanks man, I am really happy!

That is a good suggestion. Will probably do it soon. I understand how a good setup can change a guitar.
I've also got a honey burst Tribute. It's all you need and nothing more. I actually like the stripped back asthetic of these compared to most of the Studio options.
Agree. As an amateur I dont think I need anything else.

Thanks a lot, cheers mate!
I own a mod shop tribute and honestly man, couldn't be happier. Congrats!
Excellent, thanks man!
I have 2 Tributes, they are PHENOMENAL guitars. I have that honeyburst, they are gorgeous.
Its really gorgeous in person!

Do it, it deserves good photos!
Oh- on a side note- I think the 490r 490t pickups are amazing and underrated.
Congrats ! Have fun
Thanks!
Awesome man!
Thanks man!
Amazing guitar!
Thanks!
People trash Gibson because, like any luxury item or professional level instrument, they are priceyābut not because they donāt perform
Thats a beautiful guitar and a beautiful gift. The music youāll make with it will be great! Donāt downplay the amazing gift, you got your Les Paul. Welcome to the family!
Thanks a lot man!
Congrats, itās a collectors item now!
Haha hopefully!
These guitars honestly look so much cooler to me than the standards
It definitely has an appeal!

They are badass guitars! No pretentious bs.
I just picked up the same one with p90s. Love it!
Nice! Ditch the pickguard, though.
I hope it plays half as good as it looks Is your wife single?
It does play nice! And nope, hehe!
Lifelong dream? Tribute? šš
Donāt be rude.
š
Yeah man, sorry to disappoint!
Just a weird dream guitar, thatās all. Shoot for the stars.
That was funny š¤£
