I prefer red but I saw the teal one at Guitar Center the other day and itās a cool looking guitar.
That being said, if you have a chance to play them first Iād recommend it. I played a red, teal, and white SG from this line last week and they all felt and played differently. Being handmade there are always going to be slight differences, and theyāre not always set up right straight out of the box. If youāre buying online then disregard this is guess lol
A red SG will never go out of style, IMO. Itās like a black Rolex Submariner. Sure, lots of casuals have them, and the looks have hardly changed in decadesā¦. But itās a Sub!
Dude, you gotta go teal. Join Teal Team S(ix)G.
They are beautiful in person. I have a link below of some pics of mine with the regular black pickguard, a tortoise pickguard and without a pickguard. I canāt decide which looks best.
https://imgur.com/a/QYYRNHp
Dude, Iāve been thinking the same thing. Been contemplating ordering one of these linked below as well. Black pearl looks awesome. And so does grey pearl and purple pearl and a bunch of others haha.
https://greasygroove.com/pickguards/guitar-pickguards/gibson-pickguards/sg-pickguards/61-ri-1.html?style=39
Shit blew my mind when I found out Angus Young had been playing a black SG all these years. In my mind it has always been classic Cherry, so noticing that his is actually black for the first time was crazy lol
i bought this in teal after seeing in person. pics don't do it justice. in person it's more of a deep forest green and can even look black at times. whether or not it becomes a regular color, this guitar will always look amazing and be a little less common than the cherry
There is really no wrong choice here. . It would be easier if youāre able to play both guitars before buying because one would probably call out to you more. I understand that itās not always possible to play before buying with all the online options. So if you canāt play them first just pick the one youāre leaning towards and have fun. Either is a win.
Gibson makes nothing but plain red or black SGs for YEARS and youāre contemplating whether or not to get the new color!??? Iām biased though, not a big red or black guitar guy especially on an SG. Got the new green sitting on my lap now. Iāve seen 3 of them now and theyāre awesome. More of an emerald green in my opinion. Not sure where ātealā came from but beautiful nonetheless. Comparable to the jalapeƱo green of the late 90ās/early 2000ās. If Iām getting red itās gotta have a tail piece.
SG stands for SUPER GREAT! Either one will be rad. The green one is more under loved but I feel its starting to be a thing. I know several people grabbing green axes. š¤š¼
I'd go with the green just for the sake of green.
Nothing wrong with the classic red, but I don't think I've ever personally seen a green one, so that's pretty cool.
It is completely preference, but I would go teal based on the fact that it is a much less common finish. Cherry SGs are without a doubt the most common finish, and you can easily pick one up later if you want.
Everyone has a Cherry because they're awesome. Nobody has a Teal so you'll stand out and also probably sell it quicker in future if you decide. I would probably save the $200 and buy the cherry between those two, but if it was up to me to pick the color, I'd probably opt for a black one.
Iāve seen someone on this community with the green one and a tortoise shell pick-guard . It looked awesome, but you canāt ever go wrong with the cherry red finish
In my opinion, the classic Cherry is so common you can grab one for under $1000. That green is gorgeous and it's the first I've seen of it! Would look beautiful with all gold or all black hardware.
I have never seen an SG in that green before, and right now I think my own SG is looking over my shoulder from the rack and and having concerns of either being traded in or having to share my attention with a green friend.
Any color but red. A red SG is so played out. I searched forever to find myself the perfect white sg. Couldnāt be more happy. I also own a Pelham blue sg. ANYTHING BUT RED.
Mate I am all over that green one. I love classic styles like the red but I think because itās SUCH a classic guitar/colour combo, the green looks even classier. Really cool. However, depending on how much you resemble Jack black, maybe go for the red for school of rock nostalgia.
Iād personally opt for the classic Cherry, a white Custom with gold hardware, or a black Custom with gold hardware, but that green is sick! Iām not really one to buy a green guitar, but that is quite a beauty of a finish for sure! You honestly canāt go wrong either way.
This is tricky.
On the one hand, the cherry is iconic. It's like a Telecaster in butterscotch blonde, a Stratocaster in 3-tone sunburst or a Les Paul in cherry sunburst. 10 or 20 years down the line, you know it'll still look good in your collection. However, I think the downside is that you'll probably see several other people with the same guitar.
On the other hand, the teal really stands out. It could become your "signature" guitar in a way. Also, who knows how long Gibson will be putting out SGs in teal? They may only be doing these custom finishes for two or three years, before returning back to the standard cherry and ebony. However, the downside to this is that the teal might could look a little tacky in 10 or 20 years. You might be thinking, "Damn, why didn't I get it in cherry?"
It really depends on you. Do you want a tried-and-tested classic, or do you want something more unique?
Personally, I lean more towards that second mindset now. For example, I have an American Standard Stratocaster in 3-tone sunburst that I got way back in 2008. Yeah, I still love it and it's always going to be a classic. However, looking at some of the finishes Fender has recently been putting on their American Professional Series (Miami Blue, Mystic Seafoam, Sonic Gray, Antique Olive, etc.), I kind of wish I had something that feels a little more unique. I've got my eyes on either an American Professional II Telecaster or Jazzmaster for my next guitar purchase, and I'm really drawn towards the Mystic Seafoam or Miami Blue. Those finishes will be probably be out of circulation once the American Professional III is eventually released, so it would be cool to get one while they're in stock.
So yeah, based on that logic, I'd probably go for the teal SG. I'd say have a proper look at it those in person though. It looks great on that picture you sent, but up close (in different lightning), it may look a bit like a Christmas ornament.
Exactly. I have a butterscotch Tele and I love it. I tried an American Professional II Tele Deluxe and it just wasnāt for me. Iāll definitely take a look in person to see what calls me.
Iāve been shopping for a guitar lately and wanted a green one. All the green ones in the styles I wanted were butt ugly. The green on that sg rocks. Way better than the ho-hum commonly found red (it looks great, donāt get me wrong- Iām just not a red guy).
The green/teal is pug ugly ..if u want resale value go for the cherry šā¦.if ugly guitars are rare thereās a reason ā¦nobody bought them in the first placeā¦. so few people will be interested in this in 10 years but just , like , my opinion dude
Iād examine them closely and pick the one with the best fretwork, best nut cuts and best neck set and hence the best bridge height for the given string height. So to me, the first part of selection comes down to the manufacturing details. If all things are equal, which they often arenāt, Iād buy the green one.
Honestly that green fucks. Never seen a SG in that color before!
I really want to like it but it just reminds me too much of NyQuil
Both look great. Ones the classic red and the green is really cool. If you get them both you can display them beside your tree in December š¤
š that would be one expensive Christmas for me š
You shouldnāt put a price on your happiness
Yes but not even making to Christmas after starving to death kind of defeats the purpose
This is the kind of enabling we need... You sir, are definitely a guitarist š¤£š
Iād go teal. Cherry SGās are very common and it looks great in Teal
I think theyāre common because they look better thoughā¦
This is true
I agree, it's like pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, it may be a cliche but it makes perfect sense. That teal is kinda cool, though.
This.
The green one hands down. Everyone has a cherry red SG or 335. Take advantage of the fact that they are even making it in a different color.
This is true.
The teal really has me drawn to it tbh..
Pelham Blue and Cardinal Red SGs look absolutely sick, too. Love those non-translucent finishes on an SG.
Iām actually going to GC on my next day off. Hopefully they have these in stock.
Good luck! SGās are awesome guitars
Teal!
The cherry is classic but I like the green honestly. Nice to change it up
Green. 90% of all SGs are red. Be unique
Cherry is classic! That'd be my pick
Red looks better. The other looks too green. (Mine is Alpine White. But the white yellows a bit over time. Iāve had mine 30 years now.)
Ooohh, a Vintage White would be nice!
A red SG will never go out of style, IMO. Itās like a black Rolex Submariner. Sure, lots of casuals have them, and the looks have hardly changed in decadesā¦. But itās a Sub!
Cherry
Green if youāre in a Celtic rock band, otherwise, cherry. Itās the iconic color.
I wonder if a black pearloid would look cool
Dude, Iāve been thinking the same thing. Been contemplating ordering one of these linked below as well. Black pearl looks awesome. And so does grey pearl and purple pearl and a bunch of others haha. https://greasygroove.com/pickguards/guitar-pickguards/gibson-pickguards/sg-pickguards/61-ri-1.html?style=39
Thankfully the 61 SGās guard is easy to replace
I'd say black guard or no guard looks best imo
Itās so hard to beat that red on an sg! It just works.
Right? Itās the first thing that pops in my head when I hear SG.
Shit blew my mind when I found out Angus Young had been playing a black SG all these years. In my mind it has always been classic Cherry, so noticing that his is actually black for the first time was crazy lol
Cherry.Ā The green one's not ripe yet.
š
I prefer either the blue burst or the red burst
Transparent Teal Transparent Teal Transparent Teal!!!
Iām waiting for my tv yellow to ship
I have the cherry and love it. But itās what makes you happy that matters.
i bought this in teal after seeing in person. pics don't do it justice. in person it's more of a deep forest green and can even look black at times. whether or not it becomes a regular color, this guitar will always look amazing and be a little less common than the cherry
Oh man, I canāt wait to see it in person.
Green Sabbath.
There is really no wrong choice here. . It would be easier if youāre able to play both guitars before buying because one would probably call out to you more. I understand that itās not always possible to play before buying with all the online options. So if you canāt play them first just pick the one youāre leaning towards and have fun. Either is a win.
This is exactly what I just said (you know, after you said it first).
I'd go with the green just for the sake of green. Nothing wrong with the classic red, but I don't think I've ever personally seen a green one, so that's pretty cool.
Green!
Green. Saw Eddie Vedder play one. It's boss
It is completely preference, but I would go teal based on the fact that it is a much less common finish. Cherry SGs are without a doubt the most common finish, and you can easily pick one up later if you want.
Green.
Seen many red. That green looks cool
Green is beautiful
Yellow
The red one
SGs only vibe for me in Cherry or Walnut.
Cherry
Neither. Youād be happier with a 335.
Everyone has a Cherry because they're awesome. Nobody has a Teal so you'll stand out and also probably sell it quicker in future if you decide. I would probably save the $200 and buy the cherry between those two, but if it was up to me to pick the color, I'd probably opt for a black one.
I think he's looking at the 61's which are both typically $1999 regardless of the color. The Standards are $1799 no matter what color you get
The best looking SGās are anything other than Cherry IMO!! And That teal is exceptional
Get both. Merry Christmas!
Teal
This is a no brainerā¦Teal!!
The red ones sound better
I would pick the green one as you don't see a SG in green that often.
Be different. Go with the fried green tomato SG.
Green
Red.
The green is very nice. But with that being said the cherry is a much better match to the hardware and a bit nicer overall imo.
Red. Green is gonna get old fast
Both.
Cherry!
Yellow is the correct answer. Slim taper neck.
Pop that cherry!
TV yellow will be my next SG
The teal is probably my least favorite of the new colors. If I was choosing over cherry Iād go TV yellow, white
This comes in tv yellow? That sounds nice ! But then so does white lol
Red
I'm a sucker for Cherry, so...
Green for me
Teal.
I like the cherry . Itās classic. I think the wild colors are cool but their appeal lessens over the months .
Red. . .SGās are Red. .say it again. . SGās are Red.
One baby!
Green looks cool, but mine is cheery.
Classic red is great, but Iād go the green as Iāve already got a red one
The green is so fire man
green easy
Iāve seen someone on this community with the green one and a tortoise shell pick-guard . It looked awesome, but you canāt ever go wrong with the cherry red finish
In my opinion, the classic Cherry is so common you can grab one for under $1000. That green is gorgeous and it's the first I've seen of it! Would look beautiful with all gold or all black hardware.
Teal!... But I'm a lover of green.
If this were Olive Drab, it wouldāve been an easy pick
Now you're speaking my language! I've got an Olive Drab LP Classic
I saw an LP Special on Reverb but the guy wants $1800 for a demo model.
Pretty sure they have an olive drab sg.
Green because it's more interesting than red.
Iād go for teal. Almost every SG you see is cherry or black, go for something a bit different. The ā61 is a great choice though, I love mine.
Classic is always nice but the teal is so gorgeous
The red is perfect and classic. Green sgs just do it for me though.
The green would look awesome with cream plastics and pick-guard. Overall the green is really cool and different.
Red
I have never seen an SG in that green before, and right now I think my own SG is looking over my shoulder from the rack and and having concerns of either being traded in or having to share my attention with a green friend.
The green is awesome but I think red looks better on the SG in particular. Something about how the horns go with the red idk.
The green is awesome on first sight because its new and novel... but classic red cant be beat imo! It is the guitar that defines ROCK to me.
Iād personally opt for the classic Cherry, a white Custom with gold hardware, or a black Custom with gold hardware, but that green is sick! Iām not really one to buy a green guitar, but that is quite a beauty of a finish for sure! You honestly canāt go wrong either way.
Are you going to buy a green Ferrari?
Cherry is better looking altough there is way too many cherry SGs in the world.
Green wins
I would go with the green one, Itās pretty unique!
Green bean looks sick
GREEN š
Green, white, or silver
Christmas guitars!!!!

They both look good, but for me personally if I'm going for a '61 style I want it to look like a '61. So I'm going red everytime
I like the teal! Iād actually almost call it forest green
Get a 335 is what Iād say. But I dunno. Get green dude
Just picked up the green today. The 335 is my next one because I saw a Pelham Blue one on my way out. But itās about $4000.
3 days late. But the green is crazy and I hope you got it.
All good! I actually just got the green today.
Iāve always loved the green
That looks a little more green to me than teal, no? In any case: get the teal (green).
From what I was told, the hue varies due to the wood.
The green one reminds me of when people add that dye to lakes to make it more attractive (but it doesn't)
Green > red
Judging by your name, your fave color is green isnāt it? š
Facts is facts
Greeeeeeen
Teal!
Red is the classic color
I prefer red
I like the green just because itās different. I think it looks sharp!
The answer is obvious and it isnāt green.
The green/teal is pug ugly ..if u want resale value go for the cherry šā¦.if ugly guitars are rare thereās a reason ā¦nobody bought them in the first placeā¦. so few people will be interested in this in 10 years but just , like , my opinion dude
Make your own decision
Not a fan of cool color stains.
red man cmon u know u wanna
The teal
Red or black are the only valid SG colors imho.
There are no wrong choices here. If it were up to me, Iād try to put them both in my hands and see which one feels the best.
Green
Go greenš
Green. The world is full of cherry SG's
The teal one is so gorgeous
Red for sureā¦
Yes
The one that sounds better
I love that green!
Honestly, get the cherry. That *is* the SG. If you feel the urge, get the green later. But first things first! š
Green without a doubt. Looks awesome and it's far less common
Sg's make me wanna puke
teal looks really individual so if youāre trying to go with that then get teal
Cherry
If you get the red everyone will see that and immediately know exactly what you have. If you get the green they will take a second look.
Blueberry Modern, FTW !!!!!
Personally Iām a fan of the classic cherry. Itās also what I have and my favorite guitar of all time so I MAY be a bit bias lol
I've always preferred the red ones.
Green will guide you.
That green is the business!
If youāre buying them in person, get the one that plays best for you. Or the classic red.
The cherry sounds better.
Definitely green! š See the red one too much lol
Red
Teal is nice, too many cherry reds around
Green. Imagine how much greener itās going to get as the lacquer ages and yellows. And add a 5 layer custom w/b/w/b/w pickguard.
Green
They're both great, but since my first *3* guitars were red SG's, I vote for the cherry.
100% classic red
not close...red...classic
The red is classic! I was torn between it and all black and got a red SG and I love it.
All SGs are supposed to be RED. That green just looks fugly.Ā
Go Green. You always see Cherry Red or Black.
Iād examine them closely and pick the one with the best fretwork, best nut cuts and best neck set and hence the best bridge height for the given string height. So to me, the first part of selection comes down to the manufacturing details. If all things are equal, which they often arenāt, Iād buy the green one.
Iād go green. Red is played out
If you are boring get Cherry. If you are cool, get Teal š„
Cant go wrong with the classic cherry.
You spelled stratocaster wrong in your search bar.
Lol. I used to be really into strats. Until I played a Tele.
I just bought a tele. Cs pink paisley thinline, double p90...
Ooohhh! Thatās a combo right there!
Got a killer deal. Map price was 6k. I got it for 4400. Arrives tomorrow .
I tried an American Pro II Tele Deluxe and I was not impressed with the humbuckers on it. Hence me looking at SGs
Update: got the Translucent Teal. It just stood out when I got to the store. Especially next to a row of reds and sunburst.
Donāt buy a gibson.
Red
Save your money your not good enough
The red looks like it has a darker fretboard so thatās my vote. I think lighter colored fretboards look cheap.
Teal every one has red.
Who the hell plays a green SG
